A few days had gone by since that talk with Ruby at the cafe, and they were a living hell for Weiss. Everywhere she went she could tell that everyone was glaring and whispering about her. News of her explosion at the blind boy Fox spread like wildfire. She knew that if she wasn't in the company of Ruby throughout the week the entire student body would have lynched her on the school's flag pole. She had successfully made herself the most hated student; she was even ranked lower than that thug Cardin Winchester. She tried to distract herself with happier thoughts, such as today was Thursday and she was going to go see Ruby race.
She must admit she was excited. When she saw Ruby race against Neptune and the other boys she couldn't help but be mesmerised by her grace in running. She could compare Ruby to a cheetah in the Savannah, running at top speed for its prey with such determination and confidence. Just looking at her as she almost bounced in her seat with excitement. The two girls were currently sitting together eating lunch at the cafeteria. Speaking of, the two of them constantly together brought on more gossip from the other students. Why were they eating together? Why were they always together? Did Weiss enslave the girl as her servant? Are they lesbian lovers? That last rumour made Weiss laugh.
Her? A lesbian?
Completely preposterous. Simply untrue. No way in hell.
"So Weiss, do you have any clubs you go to?" Ruby then asked, snapping Weiss from her thoughts.
"Clubs? No I don't," she answered back with disinterest.
"Really? But there's got to be something you're interested in! There's so many clubs to take here. None of them interest you?" Ruby was in complete shock, as if someone had told her that two headed dogs now exist.
"I just never saw the point in joining any, I haven't got any hobbies," she sighed as she took a sip from a bottle of water.
"What about singing?" Ruby asked innocently. Weiss caught off guard by her friends suggestion, promptly let the water in her mouth trickle down the wrong pipe. Weiss hackled in coughs as she tried to clear her throat.
"W-what?" Weiss gasped as she slowly composed herself.
"Yeah, I remember when you use to sing when we were little; you had the cutest voice too!" Ruby started grinning. Weiss' cheeks went red from embarrassment and turned away from her bubbly friend.
"M-my father made me sing! To impress the other rich families in the country" Weiss responded in a dignified manner.
"Yeah, but I could see that you enjoyed it," Ruby smiled as she took a sip from her juice bottle. Weiss couldn't deny that she did enjoy it. The thrill of being in front of an audience, singing her heart out to them and listening to them applaud back. There was no feeling like it.
"Gah! I'm going to be late!" Ruby suddenly jumped up to her feet and packed her things away in a hurry.
"What? Late? For what?" Weiss blinked her eyes in confusion.
"I haven't completed the last bit of my English homework and it's handed in next lesson!" she replied as she zipped her back up.
"Ruby! I've told you to keep on top of your school work!" Weiss began to scold the neglectful girl before her. If Ruby was doing bad in school then that could lead to a disciplinary, which could lead to suspension, which could lead to Ruby being expelled! Weiss really thought too much into this.
"SorryI'lltryhardernexttimebutI'vegottogobyeWeiss!" Ruby shouted in one breath as she sped out of the cafeteria. Weiss sighed; resting her head in her left hand as she nimbly ate the apple in her right. It was now that Ruby was gone that she felt... very uncomfortable. As she looked around she saw that almost everyone was staring at her with contempt, slowly going back to what they were doing when she looked at them. She hated this. She felt so isolated and cornered by their stares.
She was unable to distract herself now. What were they going to do? Were they going to gang up on her? Were they going to finish what Coco started? Oh god! She wasn't in here was she? Weiss spun around to see most of the students had gone back to their own things, but a few glared back at her, murmuring to each other. Weiss turned away. She couldn't see Coco, but what were they muttering to each other? Why couldn't she stop her hand shaking? Were the walls closing in around her? Weiss took more frantic breaths, trying to control herself. But no matter what she tried she couldn't stop the anxiety eating away at her.
She couldn't take it anymore. She quickly packed her things into her bag and quickly marched out of the room. Weiss kept a swift pace as she made her way down the halls, heading for her next class. She didn't care if she arrived too early; she just wanted to get away from all the judgmental stares. Once she was outside the classroom and sure that no one was around she slid down the wall and hugged her knees to her chest. What was wrong with her? Why was the heiress to the Schnee Oil Company suddenly a terrified little girl? Why did she care how other people viewed her? Before Ruby came back into her life she couldn't care less what other people thought of her. But she cared about what Ruby thought, and her thoughts coincide with the student body.
She didn't want to lose Ruby, not again. So she would change her ways and try to be a better person. However that was almost impossible when everyone had strong judgemental opinions of you. Weiss had no idea how to fix that, and hoping that it'll go away in time wouldn't work. Maybe if she stuck with Ruby more then she could use her carefree happy personality to help change everyone's view of her.
Weiss held her head in her hands. That was a horrible thought! How could she think of using Ruby like that? She really didn't deserve a friend like her. Someone that would choose to stick by her after seeing what Weiss did to the blind boy? Any normal person would have ditched the heiress and be done with it. But Ruby was different, she was always different.
"My you're early Weiss! Eager for class are we? This is excellent! Most excellent!" Professor Oobleck suddenly appeared beside her, giving the white haired girl a good scare. He unlocked the classroom door and entered, followed by Weiss after she picked up her school bag.
When classes finished at the end of the day, everyone packed up their equipment and quickly evacuated from the classrooms. Weiss decided to wait until everyone left the classroom before she left herself. Crowds at the moment didn't seem to be a good place for her. Once she picked up her bag and left the classroom she looked around for the familiar red hoody. However she remembered that Ruby would be going straight to her track practise, the same track practise Weiss promised to go to. So she marched down the halls of the school, heading towards the big field where the track practice would be. She was thinking of what it'll be like to see her race again. The last time she saw Ruby race was when she beat Neptune, looking back on it made her feel so happy.
"Sup ice queen," she heard a voice call behind her. Weiss looked behind to see Sun and Blake walking up to her.
"You heading home now?" Blake asked, looking up from the book she was reading in her hands.
"No, Ruby's got track practise today and I promised that I would watch," Weiss explained.
"Wow, you actually going to watch her race in a cold dirty field? I like this Weiss better than the old grouchy one," Sun commented with a grin.
"Shut up you pest," Weiss spoke haughtily and strutted off.
"And she returns... It's like a whole Jekyll and Hyde thing going on with her," Sun scratched his head with a sigh. "So Blake what do you want to do?"
"I don't know, go home I guess," she commented half heartedly as her eyes glided across the pages of her book. The blonde sighed and took the book from her hands, earning an annoyed glare from the raven haired bookworm.
"Or... you can come with me and we can both go with Weiss and be like you know... social?" Sun nudged her arm with his shoulder as he suggested the idea.
"Sun... give me my book back," Blake spoke sharply as she tried reaching for the book.
"Not until you agree that we should go see that little red run," Sun responded, still holding the book out of reach. Blake tried reaching for it again but Sun still held it out of reach. Blake groaned loudly until she finally relented.
"Fine... we'll go show support. Now can I please have my book back," she sighed. Sun happily returned the book back to Blake, who quickly put the book away into her bag.
"All right then, let's go after ice queen," Sun grabbed Blake's hand and pulled her along after Weiss. As Blake tried to catch up she couldn't help but turn her head away, hiding the blush on her face.
Meanwhile out on the field Ruby was tying up her shoelaces on the benchs while Yang drunk from her water bottle. Some boys walking by couldn't help but stop and stare as a trickle of water slowly trailed down her chin. They continued to watch as the daring liquid went down her neck as it slowly reached closer to her...
"Fellas, my eyes are up here!" Yang called out to them with a smirk. They quickly composed themselves and went on their way. "Pfft. So Ruby, are you excited for your first track race?"
"It's just a practise Yang and yes I am! I can't wait to show off to you and the coach and Weiss when she shows up!" Ruby cheered with glee. The mention of Weiss caused a frown to fall on Yang's face.
"Say Ruby... about Weiss," Yang began with a tone that Ruby knew wasn't good. "Every time you've talked about her in the past you've made her out to be this great friend and a kind person..."
"Yang..." Ruby tried to interrupt.
"But everything I have heard from her makes her out the complete opposite. Normally I would just ignore it as gossip but the whole school is talking about how she viciously bullied a blind kid!" Yang explained. Ruby jumped up to her feet with a loud groan.
"Uuuugh it wasn't as bad as everyone's making it out to be!" Ruby exclaimed.
"So she didn't scream at a knocked down blind kid?" Yang asked crossing her arms.
"Well... yeah she did that but...! Look I know she isn't completely the same person that I was... forced to leave all those years ago, but the Weiss I know is there inside. I just need some time to... help her back into the Weiss I know," Ruby explained as she went to a cooler, picking out a bottle of water to drink.
"Ruby... I know you keep trying to see the best of people inside. How you believe under every grumpy sod there's a kind warm hearted person inside..." Yang sighed as she rubbed her face, fearing how Ruby would take this. "But sometimes people are just downright rotten. Sometimes there are people that have a kind warm hearted front but inside they're just horrid. What if this is what kind of person Weiss is?"
"Yang..."
"It's been years since you last saw her. A lot can happen in those years. I'm sorry I'm going on about this to you but when the whole school says nothing but contempt for someone they call the Ice Queen then clearly there's a reason for it. I just don't want a repeat of what happened back at Patch," Ruby's hand suddenly crushed the plastic bottle in her hand, the remaining water spraying out of the lid.
"I don't want to see you get into the same shit as you did with...,"
"DON'T SAY HER NAME!" Ruby screamed at the top of her voice, throwing the crushed bottle to the ground. Yang took a step back at her sister's explosion. Ruby's face was seething with anger.
"Don't ever compare Weiss to her! Weiss is kind and good, I've seen it. The friend I knew is still in there and is trying so hard to climb out. Unlike her... don't ever think I need reminding of what she was like. I looked into that monsters eyes and seen what true evil looks like. So don't ever compare Weiss to her!" Ruby spat out, glaring into Yang's eyes. Yang knew she messed up if Ruby was that mad at her. But Yang had every right to be concerned about who Ruby was hanging out with. She was a young impressionable girl and was scared she was with bad people again. Granted no one could have been worse than Ruby's previous... group of... Yang couldn't even think of the word 'friends' and have it related to those monsters. Besides when a whole school says nothing but bad things about a girl that bullied a blind kid, she had enough reason to question the white haired rich girl. In the two weeks they had been here she had not interacted much with Weiss. Yang spent her time in the school's gym and sometimes decided to hang with Sun and Blake.
Ruby always spent her time with Weiss, which made Yang slightly jealous to begin with. Ruby would always run to her sister and watch Yang practice in gym and talk about her day. Now it was Weiss who she'd run to instead of the blonde. If she was to let her sister run away to someone that someone better be the best person in the world, and still they'd have to pass Yang's little tests. But right now she clearly jumped to the wrong conclusion about Weiss if Ruby exploded on her like this. She should never have put the word of gossip above her sister.
"Ruby I- I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say that. I should have never compared her to... it was stupid and I'm sorry," Yang apologised, lowering her head. Ruby kept her glare on Yang but eventually her eyes softened and turned to side with a sigh.
"Look... I know you're looking out for me and all. But you don't have to be worried about Weiss okay? Trust me, she wants to be the girl I remember and I'm more than willing to help. I accept your apology," Ruby finally said and gave Yang a hug, which her sister eagerly returned. In the distance Yang could see Weiss, Blake and Sun walking towards them. This seemed like a good time to have a talk with the resident Ice Queen.
"Yang...air...need it," Ruby wheezed as her ribs were crushing together in Yang's hug. The blonde quickly let go of her Ruby, the racer gasping for air.
"Whoops, sorry about that. Hey listen I've got to take care of something real quick. Don't worry I'll be back here to watch to race, it'll only take a second!" Yang said as she ran away from breathless girl. She jogged over to the three arriving together; a mischievous grin adorned her face.
"Hellooooooo!" Yang called out as she slowed down to a walk. "Here to watch Ruby run?"
"Yes we are. Do you know where- WAAAH!" Weiss began when suddenly she was hoisted up by Yang and held over her left shoulder.
"That's great! Ruby's by the benches over there. Now if you'll excuse me I need to have a word with the ice queen," Yang said, giving a wave with her free hand.
"PUT ME DOWN THIS INSTANCE YOU COLOSSAL OAF! I AM ORDERING YOU TO PUT ME DOWN NOW! ARE YOU LISTENING TO ME!" Weiss screeched from the top of her voice, her hands in fist as she repeatedly hit the back of Yang. Blake and Sun watched in confusion as Yang carried her off towards the nearby supply hut.
"Think we'll see her again?" Sun asked, only getting a shrug in response from Blake. The two then continued to meet up with Ruby. When Yang reached the supply hut she finally placed Weiss down on her feet against the hut, then put her pinkie finger in her left ear, not once did Weiss stop screaming.
"Jeez you scream so loudly for a short girl..." Yang complained as she twisted her finger around in her ear.
"I scream as much as anyone would to a kidnapping!" Weiss snapped back as she tried to straighten out her uniform.
"Calm down, don't be over dramatic I only wanted to talk," Yang said lowering her hand.
"Then why couldn't you just ask to have a word in private like any normal person would..." Weiss shouted back but was suddenly cut off by a loud bang that echoed around her. Weiss's eyes looked to her left to see Yang's fist pressed against the wooden wall of the hut behind her. Instantly her anxiety hit her like a freight train. Yang grinned as she watched the blood drain from Weiss face, making the white girl look paler than normal.
"Now that I've got your attention, I want nothing but honesty from you," Yang spoke in a low voice so only Weiss could hear. The heiress gulp in terror, she quickly gripped her right hand to try and stop it from shaking. All that was going through her mind was that she was going to get beaten up and that she was going to miss the race. She could picture the look of disappointment on Ruby's face; this caused her eyes to water.
"I kept hearing from Ruby how you're this amazing friend she use to have. You were all that she could talk about. But then I hear that you're this horrible ice queen that picks on blind kids. Now Ruby is the type of person that'll see the good inside someone despite all the bad they have on top of it. So I've got to know... what kind of person are you? Are you this great friend of Ruby's? Or are you just this horrid rich bitch that thinks she's above everyone else?" Yang leant close to Weiss face staring deep into her eyes, ready to find lies or anything she didn't like in her answer.
Weiss tried to gather her thoughts together but she was unable to think straight with blonde towering over her like a gorilla ready to snap her like a twig. She was friends with Ruby. She IS friends with Ruby. But according to everyone else she was considered a horrid rich bitch, and to be honest it wasn't as if she didn't give off that impression. Thinking of all the things she had done before Ruby transferred into the school proved that she was a horrid rich bitch. But since Ruby came she's wanted to change that. She wanted to be the friend Ruby remembered years ago. She wanted to change, but it was so hard to change all of the anger and attitude that had frozen itself into an outer shell. Covering up the person she used to be inside. Her thoughts were broken again when Yang's fist hit the wall behind Weiss a few inches from her face.
"Answer me!" Yang shouted.
"I DON'T KNOW!" Weiss screamed in fear, tears now flowing down her face as her took a shuddering breath. "I-I don't know... I... I want to be what Ruby says I am... but it's hard. I'm not the same person Ruby remembers... and I hate it that I'm not! I'm scared that she'll no longer see her friend and leave me alone again!" Weiss slide down the wall behind her as she cried. Yang looked down at the heiress in surprise, not expecting her to break down like this.
"Ruby... is the only good thing that's happened in my life... the only thing that brought me joy when I was younger... Then when she left and I heard nothing from her... I felt so alone," Weiss recalled all the nights she cried herself asleep when she was younger, wanting her only friend to come back. With the horrible childhood she had and with no one to show her any love, she stopped caring about the other people around her. No one cared about her, so why should she repay the kindness. This turned Weiss into who she was today. Now with Ruby's return, the ice that locked away the girl she was started to slowly chip away.
"I'm terrified... that the only friend I have... will leave me because of who I am... I want to change... for her... but then that incident earlier in the week... I didn't know he was blind... now the school hates me and Ruby'll hate me to and... and... an..." Weiss couldn't continue as she cried her eyes out. It was at this point that Yang was thankful that people were too busy at the race track than to see this happening right now. They'd think that Yang beat Weiss up or something. But Yang had heard enough from her. She knelt down in front of Weiss, taking out of her pocket a pack of tissues.
"Come on, pull yourself together," Yang spoke in a soft comforting voice, offering the tissues to Weiss. The white haired girl quickly took the tissue and wiped her eyes with it. "Just take some deep breaths. Dry your eyes and blow your nose." Weiss did all of those things.
"A...all my make up's r-ruined..." Weiss said as she took another tissue to wipe her eyes.
"Pfft, Ruby won't care about that," Yang rolled her eyes at the comment. She waited patiently for Weiss to dry her eyes and compose herself before she continued.
"If Ruby really means that much to you then I won't get in the way of that. And trust me, knowing Ruby she won't leave you. She'll cling onto you like a koala on a tree," Yang said with a smile. "As long as Ruby knows you want to be the friend you use to then she'll do everything in her power to help you. Now that I know too, I'll help as well." Weiss looked up in confusion as she wiped her cheek one last time.
"Y-you'll help me?" Weiss asked in surprise.
"Of course I will. Helping you will make Ruby happy and if she's happy, I'm happy," Yang explained as she stood back up, offering a hand with a smile. "Now come on, you don't want to miss the race do you?" Weiss looked at the hand offered to her. Her anxiety had disappeared now and she recovered from her break down. Slowly Weiss took Yang's hand and she was pulled to her feet. As the two began walking back to the race track Weiss turned to Yang.
"If what I said was all you wanted to hear, then why did you threaten me like that? I would have answered the same, and more composed," Weiss asked.
"You could have lied. But people tend not to lie when there's the fear of getting the stuffin' beaten out of them," Yang answered with a grin. Weiss huffed and turned her face away, muttering 'brute' under her breath.
Meanwhile Ruby was practically bouncing on the spot anxiously. Sun placed a hand on her shoulder with a smile.
"What's the matter, nervous about the race?" Sun asked.
"Not the race. I nervous that Yang and Weiss would miss it," Ruby asked as she looked at the time.
"I'm sure they'll be here. Weiss did seem determined to come and watch," Blake answered; walking up to Ruby's other side.
"I hope so...," Ruby said sadly, it was almost as close to a whisper.
"When I say I'm going to do something, I do it," Weiss said, standing behind the three with Yang. Ruby spun around with a big smile on her face.
"WEISS! You came!" Ruby practically lunged at Weiss and held her in a tight up.
"C-careful Ruby," Weiss complained but returned the hug none the less. Yang slipped in between Blake and Sun as they watched the happy duo.
"So how was your talk?" Blake asked, looking up to the blonde.
"It was definitely enlightening, but enough about that..." Yang then wrapped her arms around the necks of both Blake and Sun and pulled them down for a side hug. "How are my two friends doing?" Both Sun and Blake's faces blushed a heavy red, due to their said faces being pressed against Yang's breasts. A whistle was then blown by the coach, causing Ruby to break the hug.
"Oh! That's my cue, wish me luck guys!" Ruby said as she jogged over to the gathering of students in PE kits. After a short time passed one group of racers lined up on the track and got into position, Ruby was among this group. When the coach counted down from three he blew his whistle and the race was on. Weiss watched on with the others as Ruby sprinted to the lead almost immediately and showed no signs of slowing down. Ruby took long strides in her sprint. Weiss thought for a moment that Ruby was almost gliding off the ground. Then she saw her face. The big smile she wore proudly and the dark red hair blowing behind her. Weiss considered it a sight more majestic than a cheetah sprinting across a desert in the wilds. It was no surprise that Ruby won the race. Everyone cheered for the winner, and Weiss was the loudest one. After a quick brief with the coach the next group of racers lined up and Ruby jogged back over to her friends.
"Yeah Ruby that was great!" Yang cheered.
"You were like... so fast!" Sun exclaimed.
"It was very impressive indeed," Blake complimented with a smile.
"Thanks guys! What did you think Weiss?" Ruby eagerly waited for Weiss response. The heiress smiled proudly and ran her hand through her racers hair.
"You were absolutely amazing Ruby... absolutely amazing."
A/N: *looks at when last update was*
*looks at this chapters update*
...
I need help. Simple as that.
I want nothing more than to write my stories that go through my head. I have so many ideas and I HAVE THE TIME TO DO THEM. But the moment I sit down in front of a screen ready to type? Nothing. No drive, no push to write at all. Even when I'm excited to get my ideas onto paper.
I even asked my folks and they said "You need to be in the right frame of mind. You can't force yourself to write." Normally I would have agreed with this, BUT IT HAS BEEN HALF A FUCKING YEAR SINCE I UPDATED A CHAPTER! Heck you can probably tell in the writing at what bits I stopped and started through the months! DX
I literally hate this. I hate it so much and I want it fixed. I really don't know what else to do. How can I overcome this stupid block I get when I try to write something that I already have planned and know what I want to do with? How can I fix this so I can right again?
Anyway moving on from that rant, I apologise profusely for the lack of update and I hope you enjoyed the chapter being extra long compared to the other chapters. I have so much planned for this story and I don't plan on stopping it.
So yeah, what happened on Patch? Oh wait I do know :P
Anyway hope you enjoyed reading the chapter and hopefully I be back sooner with another chapter.
