AN: Wrote this as I was getting ready to go to campus because I was having feels about four hours ago.
She hadn't always slept in late. She used to be an early morning songbird, rising even before the sun to greet the day. That changed the first time he left her in the small hours of morning to be with Diane. She'd felt his weight leave their bed, her bed before the rustling of clothes as he got dressed in the dark. Fool in love that she was, she'd thought he was going out to arrange a surprise breakfast for the two of them. Rolling over to bask in the warmth he'd left behind, she snuggled in and let herself sleep. Perhaps he'd wake her with kisses when he came back? It was reaching noon when one of her ladies gently shook her out of her slumber. Confused that the sun was so high and her husband wasn't even in the room, she asked one of the women bustling around her where her prince was. The woman looked to the floor and mumbled something undiscernible. Catherine testily snapped at her to repeat herself clearly...she wished she hadn't. Letting herself be quickly dressed, she strode as confidently as she could to the throne room with her heart thundering in her ears. It simply couldn't be. He loved her, his wife, his Catherine. She turned into the room and only faltered for a moment before setting a deadly pace for her throne and putting her politician voice on.
"You must forgive me, Ambassador, I hadn't realized the time. You were saying?"
The German Ambassador bowed his head in respect for the princess of France and continued his speech. From the corner of her eye, she saw the wisp of skirt and the long brown locks of Diane de Poitier sat in her husband's lap. Turning her attentions to the German relation, she cleared her mind and presented herself to the task at hand. It would be the last time in a long, long while that she would rise early. No one needed a broken heart at the start of their day.
AN: If I broke your heart at the start of YOUR day, my bad. XO, Lina loves you.
