Chapter 2: Fix A Heart (Demi Lovato)
Mana was very close and Shu's attention was stolen by her sister's lips that were way too red. His cold hands felt warm covered by his sister's, but also unexpectedly wet, making him notice that her fingers had red water too. Shu never knew Mana painted before. But there was no brush and the paint around was only one color and was staining the floor—
His gaze had followed the paint and when he saw how much of it was underneath Triton, he realized it wasn't paint.
"Triton!" Shu knelt in front of his brother and began shaking his shoulders. "Y-you're hurt!"
"Shu.../Shu!" Triton tried to speak but Mana's voice was louder and captured Shu faster. "I said ignore him!"
"What! Why? We should help—"
"Why? Why should I help a human. I am the only one important! I want you to be important too!"
"Neechan? Neechan, I don't understand. Of course you're important. I love you but Tri—" Shu stopped when Mana fell to her knees, gasping in pain. "N-Neechan? Are you hurt too?"
Shu's eyes flitted between the pained forms of his siblings, rooted under the church's silence and the darkening sky outside the open doors. Triton was bleeding and Mana looked like she was coming down on something and there was no one else this late in Christmas Eve with heavy snow outside. Haruka had went to Otousan's lab and told them to stay in their villa. Shu was only out because Triton had told him to meet him here, and his sister had found out and went ahead of Shu, with only her red winter coat over her shirt and skirt. She was probably cold! Shu took off his coat and draped it over his sister's.
Mana jerked her head up when she felt a warm weight. "Shu?"
"You're just cold right? Just wrap mine around your legs and when you're okay help me lift Triton. Ano," Shu's eyes caught a box lying near them, empty save for a cloth. He reached out and found the cloth was white and soft, but not clean enough to clean Triton's wounds. Haruka told him that he can only clean wounds using clean water and tissues or cloth, this one was a bit dirty from some kind of dark powder. Dusting them off, Shu figured it's at least good enough to warm up his sister. "Neechan, use this to wrap around your neck!" Shu reached out behind her to loop the white cloth around her head and tried to lift her long hair out with his right hand. The pink tresses gave way, revealing purple crystals near her ears and cheek.
Mana yelped and covered her ears, blocking Shu's sight on them.
"Neechan?" Shu let his right hand touch hers, not trying to pull it away to see the crystals, but he's pretty sure that's not normal. "That doesn't look like an earring."
"Shu," Triton called out. "She's sick."
Shu's face scrunched in fear. What if it's some kind of disease and the reason why his sister isn't well? He didn't know what sickness would make shiny purple rocks in someone's face. He wished Tou-san or Haruka is here! "Neechan, does it hurt?"
"Go away."
Shu startled. "No!"
Mana screamed. "BOTH OF YOU GO AWAY FROM ME!"
"I SAID NO!" And Shu screamed back, doing the only thing he could reach out to her.
The church was silent save for their harsh breathing.
