The 'Lone' Hero of Vale - Chapter 1

"Pleeeeeease?" Ruby begged as she grabs Weiss by her shoulders and violently shakes her.

"No, we have class pretty soon! Now get off!" Weiss shrugs and light shoves Ruby back

"Lighten up Weiss; skipping one class won't hurt us... as long as nobody catches us though." Yang chuckles and wraps both of her arms around her teammates

"You just agreed with her because you're sisters, but Blake would be on my side." Weiss frowned, "I think..."

"Weeeeeell, she is not around, so that makes it two on one." Yang sticks out two fingers as well as her tongue

"Fine let's go." Weiss softly said, then was immediately dragged by both the sisters "She still drives me insane... to this day I still wonder why I was not picked as the leader." She said to herself. "Blake wouldn't want us skipping class you know!"

"Oh shut up already." Ruby rushed ahead

Elsewhere, in a dark and mysterious club

"I am never going to hear the end of this if I-! Oh who am I kidding, when I get caught skipping." Speaks a young man who had spiky blonde hair, blue eyes, a piercing in his right ear, a green tunic with black sleeves and leggings (as opposed to his usual white.)

"So Link is it? You're a hunter that goes to beacon? Are you sure you're not here for anything specific?" Junior frowns as he approaches him

"Relax 'junior', I just needed the day off, I am not here for anything." Link sighs

"Good." Two females said at the same time as they too walked towards him

"Melanie, Militia, stand down, I can handle the kid myself if he's any trouble."

"I beg to differ." Link smirks

"Now go stand guard at the door, I don't want another one of 'them' getting in here." Junior shrugs and waves them away.

"What about me then?" Link raises an eyebrow

"Don't make me regret it." Junior doesn't face him and simply rolls his eyes

Back to team RWBY...or in this case team RWY.

"More robberies in Vale." The fire in Ruby's was 'visible' as she approaches another robbed dust store that was ran by the same old man

"Damn Torchwick." Yang frowns as her open hands turn into fists. "I can't believe he wasn't arrested when he first confronted you... he must be a slippery one."

"Didn't you mention a run in with an associate of his?" Weiss turns her attention to Yang

"You mean Junior? Nah. Junior wasn't the real deal... I think? I dunno I was too busy beating up his henchmen." Yang chuckles "But then again I do know where he is. If you want. Maybe you guys could get answers out of him later..." Yang immediately notices Ruby nod rapidly "Or right now...?"

"To the creepy club Yang smashed to pieces!" Ruby grabs Weiss and drags her away

"But you don't even know where..." Yang smirks and follows them, waiting for them to ask question as to how to get there.

Elsewhere; Juniors Club

"So how long will you be staying here?" Melanie loops back around to confront Link

"I will leave soon." Link shrugs and does not bother to make eye contact with her, he picks up his glass and proceeds to try and down the rest of his drink

"Junior served alcohol to a m-!"

"He happily obliged." Link chuckles and keeps his sight on just the glass

BOOM!

The sounds of closing doors stopped and they were suddenly blasted open

"What are you two doing?!" Militia shouted at two of Junior's henchmen

"She's back! And with more people too!" One of them could barely say any more before the three fourths of RWBY made their way into the club

"Im back!" Yang says with a big smirk on her face

"WHAT THE-! You're back... again? Along with friends?" Junior nervously approaches her

"Start talking." Ruby grabs her sniper rifle-scythe Crescent Rose with both hands and aims it in its rifle form right at Junior.

"Great, four beacon students, what great club promotion... I'll expect the cops any time now for serving alcohol to minors." Junior sighs, "Why don't I serve you all drinks before you kill me, no alcohol of course." Junior waves towards the bar as he walks there

"Four?" Ruby looks around, expecting Blake to materialize around them

"Yeah, that kid over there goes to Beacon as well... at least that's what he told me." Junior points at Link

"Who is that?" Weiss asks, "I didn't see him when each team was announced, maybe he's a second year student?"

"I don't know, I've never seen him before either." Ruby squints her eyes to get a 'good look' at Link without having to go near him

"Eyes over here Ruby we're not here for boys." Yang laughs and playfully slaps her sister's shoulder

"What?! Here for boys?! Why you little-!" Ruby grips her weapon tightly, but before any violence could ensue...

"Hey." Link finishes his drink, but just like he did to Melanie and Militia, he refused to acknowledge Ruby, Yang and Weiss "The name is Link." He raises his hand waves

"Hi! My name is Ruby! And uh... I don't recall ever seeing you before but-!" Ruby's tangent was cut off by Yang who steps front of her

"She means of course we've seen you around!" Yang grins

"Have you really?" Link smiled but continued to not look in Ruby, Yang and Weiss' direction "Because I really doubt it, I more or less keep to myself."

"N-no, I'm sorry." Yang laughs

"It's okay, being a one man team can have it's disadvantages, and being overlooked is one of them... though that may also be an advantage."

"Wait it's you?! You're the one man team that Ozpin assigned?!" Weiss says with shock, "Well then you must be quite good."

"Yeah, I'm decent." Link shrugs his shoulders

"No you must be like, my Uncle Qrow good, no even he was on a team, you must be stronger than him, Professor Ozpin would have done something to get you on another team." Ruby drops her scythe and sat next to Link "SO! You're going to explain everything... now!" She claps and lightly taps against the bar

"Hm?" Link looks over at Ruby, his gaze was on her face, "Well..." Link smiled and began

Flashback

"Team JNPR and RWBY took down a Nevermore and a Deathstalker together... both grimm creatures took them to their limits." Ozpin mumbles, "You however, took down a Nevermore along with a Deathstalker alone, not to mention your fighting style is quite interesting. Despite only being a first year, you look like you've done it for all your life."

"May I be alone then sir?" Link asked, "I do not work well with others and to be honest, I have always been a lone wolf. Trust me Professor Ozpin, you will not regret doing this, and if none of that convinces you, then allow me counter your counter by saying, who are you going pair me up with? There is nobody else since I was a very late entry."

"Good point." Ozpin smirks but hides it as he takes a sip out of his mug, "I normally do not allow this, but you were a late entry, we are all out of new recruits to form a new team, just like you said earlier, so if this is what you want..." Ozpin looks down at a worn down Link, "I have seen you in action." Ozpin drinks more coffee out of his mug, and thinks back to the footage Glynda was showing him, carefully dissecting and picking apart Link's abilities as he took on the two creatures of Grimm while going untouched for the most part. "Very well then."

"Really? Awesome." Link nods as he gets up, he smiles at Ozpin before then turning his back to walk towards the stage.

"Now you do know we will expect more out of you..." Ozpin speaks again

"That's a regular day for me." Link nods, "People expect my best but I give them... something to remember."

"I see." Ozpin examines Link again before walking towards Glynda, "Another talented student, though this one who is very... let's say reserved. However I can say I made the right choice by letting him come here."

Link stands near the stage, watching as a group of four girls who's team had just been formed, RWBY, with the leader being a young girl with black and red hair, a red hood, silver eyes, black clothing and a scythe that was strapped to her back. "She looks a bit young to be here, but then again I'm below the usual age of first years, I was 1 year short as well so who I to talk."

"I see." Glynda nods, "Very well then, this is your choice, you may announce this."

"Right." Ozpin nods and walks past Link, onto the stage, preparing to speak into the microphone once again.

"Now I shall see what Beacon has in store for me..." Link grins and watches team RWBY leave the stage while Ozpin makes the announcement of the one man team... while excluding his name.

End of flashback

"The story has to be cut short! If we don't head back NOW we will be caught!" Weiss drags Ruby away from Link by her hood, and out of the club... both completely forgetting about the giant scythe that still lays on the ground

"See ya around Junior." Yang waves

"Yeah, see you never blondie..." Junior hesitates to wave back

"What was that?" Yang frowns

"See you around... sir." Junior nods with embarrassment as Yang nods back with a cocky smile on her face

"W-wait-!" Ruby calls out but was still pulled away by Weiss.

"Hm?" Link looks over and sees the weapon still in it's gun form on the floor

"Was she that desperate to hear your story?" Junior asks as he picks up the empty glass that was once in Link's hand

"No, it was probably because of this." Link reaches down, and grabs Ruby's prized possession from the floor, "She left her weapon... you got my hopes up Junior, making me think someone actually wants to listen to me." Link chuckles as he places Crescent Rose on the seat next to his

"Listen kid don't act casual with me, I let you in because you took down my guards and frankly the last thing I want is another fight, at least until my club is back at one hundred percent."

"Well seeing how that blonde girl is able to make you call her 'sir' I'd say you did not have a great time." Link smirks

"Grr..." Junior walks away.

"We'll hold onto that." Melanie holds her hands out, "I'll put it in the lost section"

"I can see why it doesn't have the 'found' portion in the name, I appreciate your sudden kindness, but i'll just return it to her." Link grabs onto the scythe with a tight grip, gets up from his seat and walks past the 2 sisters. Though, not in a hurry as he knew the three girls would be long gone by now.

A couple of days Later; Beacon Academy

"It's been 2 days, how have I not found her?" Link shakes his head as he continues to walk around, then eventually decides to go to the cafeteria, when the entire place was packed, all but one of the tables, and it was recognizable seeing as there's always a loud one with screaming people, this one just so happened to contain the girls he just met days prior.

"No Ruby!" Weiss demanded

"But I left crescent rose at that club, they must have locked eyes on it, stole it and then sold it! The fiends!" Ruby began to cry out

"We'll get you another weapon." Weiss frowns, "You shouldn't let that over sized contraption define who you are as a huntress."

"How could you say that?!" Ruby point her index finger right at Weiss, practically touching her forehead

"Uhhhhh, Hello?" Link hesitates to approach the table at first, but as soon as Ruby's eyes noticed him, there was no turning back

Ruby instantly gasps as she sees her prized possession in Link's hands, but instead of simply taking her weapon back, she jumps, runs and then locks her arms around Link, "You are a life saver! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" Ruby shouted, "You had no idea the agony I went though, and my own teammates acted like it wasn't a big deal!"

"Um, no problem?" Link laughs as he can feel the glares and stares from five other people, a girl in all black who was sitting besides Yang, clearly the fourth member of team RWBY, and what seemed to be a whole other team on the other side of the table.

"Oh right! This is the almighty Link, you know, the one man team? Ooooh..." Yang implies by making dramatic sounds and gestures.

"Oh, so he is the one person team?" A girl with red hair, green eyes, and metallic gold armor stands rises from her seat and walks over toward Link, waiting until Ruby was finally pulled away from Link by Yang, "I am Pyrrha Nikos, it is a pleasure to meet you." She smiles and extends her hand.

"It is a pleasure to meet you as well, I have heard so much about you Pyrrha, you're meant to be the #1 rookie coming into Beacon?" Link nods and shakes her hand, "Or at least that's what I heard, no disrespect when saying the word rookie."

"None taken, though I'm not sure I can have that title anymore if you're on a team by yourself." Pyrrha laughs, it was like a faint giggle, nevertheless it surprised her entire team, who clearly assumed she would always be serious, "But I am sure we will have a sparring match of our own one day." Pyrrha smiles as she introduces Link to everyone on 'her', Lie Ren, Nora Valkyrie and their leader Jaune Arc, while Yang introduces Link to Blake Belladonna.

"Blake... The name rings a bell" Link thinks for a moment but then shrugs it off "No way... she's that girl Adam m-!" He stops and shakes his head, "Whatever, now is not the time to be recapping those days."

"Nice to meet you all, maybe we can hang out again someday." Link waves once more and then turns his back to leave.

"Nooooo, why are you leaving so soon?!" Ruby yanks Link by his arm

"W-whoa!" Link feels a tug as within seconds he's forced sit down next to Blake "Um, wow okay then?" Link laughs and tries to act relaxed, and fortunately he was saved as Jaune starts a whole new conversation.

"Thanks Jaune, you saved me from Ruby's awkwardness." Link chuckles to himself and he looks around, and instantly realized that Yang is staring right at him.

"Does she...? No, there's no way my sister would ever be into a boy. Especially this early into our Beacon Academy year. Wow... keep me surprised sis." Yang looks over at Ruby and smiles at her.
