"There's something I ought to tell you," Sherlock says, shuffling his feet in front of the plane he knows he has to get onto. "Sherlock is actually a girl's name."
John laughs along with Sherlock for a moment before realizing that this very well may be the last time he sees the detective. He reaches forward and up, grabbing Sherlock's face in his hands quickly giving just enough time for one sharp kiss.
When they pull away, Sherlock just looks at John in shock and hardly has any time to process the action before he's ushered onto the plane.
When it turns out he gets called back after a mere four minutes of solitude, a cure to his tear-ready eyes, he runs down the flight of plane-stairs to see John. He takes a look around and sees that Mary and Mycroft are otherwise occupied before speaking. Sherlock just watches John for a moment, waiting for a reply to the questions John knows must be on their way. "It was a kiss. I was trying to be romantic."
"You were crushing my face!" Sherlock exclaims back, seeing the nerves hit John's features almost immediately.
"Yeah, in a romantic way," John tries with a wince. Sherlock sighs and takes a moment before leaning down and placing a more time-consuming kiss on his army doctor's lips, one just long enough in duration that it brings an audience.
"It only takes him a minute to cause trouble," Mycroft exclaims, running the palm of his hand over his face at the exhausting notion of his brother's troublemaking among the largest villain they've encountered returning.
Sherlock reluctantly pulls his lips away from John's and breathes a few seconds with their foreheads resting together before turning to Mycroft and Mary. "I was only trying to be romantic. Isn't returning a romantic gesture, what's the word, polite?"
Mycroft looks to Mary, sure there's going to be a conflict but is appalled to see that Mary Watson is laughing softly. John finds himself a bit in shock as well at the reaction. "Mary?"
"Finally," Mary whispers as she rests her hand on the side of John's face for a gentle moment before moving to walk back to the car. "I really don't mind sharing," she says to Sherlock with a grin before climbing into the car.
"I like this one. She's not going anywhere," Sherlock says with a wink before climbing in after her and shutting the door behind them both.
Mycroft chuckles as Sherlock is already immersing himself in case materials and Mary seems to be amusing him in the background with idle chit-chat. He looks to John. "In love with a psychopath and a sociopath, John, you have an interesting road ahead of you."
"The game is on," John says in one of Sherlock's favorite sentences before rushing into the car with the two people he's keen on spending the rest of his life with and their soon-coming baby.
