Yo,
Long time no see. Sorry about that. I'd make an excuse that college, work, and other personal factors got in the way but that's all they are, excuses. I'm really just lazy as fuck.
I've been asked if I wanted to give any of my stories away, that's how bad this has gotten. But I'm too much of a dick to do that, so sorry about that as well.
"Running an academy and a military makes him quite a busy man, but yes those are an eyesore."
Ozpin's comment is focused from the view of his watchtower window. The focus being, Ironwood's vast fleet of transports and artillery airships. While Ozpin and Ironwood are partners and friends to some degree, their views on keeping the peace are varied.
Ozpin likes to keep powerful pieces and distribute them with subtlety and intent. Hence why he has his special huntsman operatives like Qrow and Glynda, as well as keeping newer prodigies close by, like Ruby, Pyrrha, and Jaune. Ironwood however enforces his power, such as the way of Atlas. While he does have his Specialists, he uses them as military icons alongside his massive army and navy to establish a firm defense for the future of humanity.
Hearing an alert coming from his desk tablet, Ozpin slowly walks over and activates the microphone connected to his door. "Come in," he says, knowing well of the person on the other side.
"Ozpin!" The great general greets with a small amount of cheer. His form holding power in itself. Both regal and strong. His white tailcoat flutters softly as he approaches, and each step taken speaks of his strength and experience. Above his right eyebrow is a strip of metal which contains a form of micro-circuitry that connects him to his fleet as well as helps him manipulate his less human limbs. Hidden beneath his coat at his waist is his trusty revolver, Vigilance.
Ozpin outstretches one of his hands upon Ironwood's approach, "General," he courteously greets. They each grasp each other's hands.
"Please drop the formalities, we are old friends are we not?" Ironwood says in good humor. Turning his head, he spots Glynda and his smile grows a fraction, "Glynda, it's certainly been too long since I've seen you."
Glynda is less pleased with their guest's arrival, "Oh James," she greets with a very clear faux cheer, and then proceeds to drop back to her neutral expression, "I'll wait outside." And with that, he struts towards the door with her chin slightly higher.
Ironwood raises an eyebrow at her hostile statement. He is well aware that she is more outspoken of her disgust with his military practices so it doesn't surprise him anymore, "Well she hasn't changed a bit."
Seeing the avenue to start a less than pleasant, yet inevitable conversation Ozpin walks back to his desk where his kettle and ornate cups are located, "So, out of curiosity what has brought you all the way down here from Atlas? Headmasters don't usually leave their post to join their incoming students for the Vytal Festival?" Ozpin starts while pouring them both a cup of coffee. Ozpin felt he would need a few after this conversation.
"One can only stand the cold climate for so long, and Vale is lovely at this time of year. Besides, with you hosting the festival this year, I figured this would be a good opportunity for us to catch up." Ironwood says as he draws his flask from his coat pocket and pours some liquor into his offered mug. While the taste was less than pleasing with coffee most of the time, Ozpin's finer brew mixed surprisingly well with his high-end liquor.
Ozpin circles back around to the other side of his desk with kettle and mug in each hand, "Well I can certainly appreciate a nice visit from an old friend, but that imposing fleet outside my window has me fairly concerned." Ozpin made sure to keep his eyes locked with Ironwood's for that last statement.
"Well, concern is what brought them here." Ironwood's smile finally drops into a more serious expression.
Ozpin finally takes his seat and interlocks his fingers, "I can understand that travel between kingdoms has been increasingly difficult, but…" Before he can continue, Ironwood cuts him off.
"Oz. you and I both know why I brought those soldiers."
Ozpin sighs and moves his hand to his mug, and after a long sip he places it gently back to his desk. "Right now, we are in a time of piece. The Vytal Festival is supposed to support our prolonged lack of warfare. Having a large fleet like this will only send the wrong message.
Ironwood's eyes gain an edge to them, "But if what Qrow said is true…"
"If what Qrow said is true then we will handle it tactfully, as we have done before. Right now we should focus on the Vytal Festival, for it is a celebration of unity and peace. I wish you would refrain from transporting several hundred soldiers halfway across the continent just to send a message."
Ironwood raises his head slightly higher, "I'm just being cautious."
"As am I, which is why we should focus on training the best huntsman and huntresses we can." Ozpin comments with a small, but strained smile.
Ironwood looks down for a moment, before looking back to Ozpin. "I've heard you gained a new piece at your side. One that holds power only known in fairy tales."
Ozpin raises an eyebrow, "Why yes I have," Ozpin says, but narrows his eyes before his next response. "How did you know about that?"
To this Ironwood smiles, "Because I've gained one myself, and they've already interacted once before. Dragonslayers know their own kind when they see them." Ironwood comments with some mirth.
Now this was news to Ozpin. He knew that given the limited information about Dragonslayers from Jaune, there were only a few remaining on Remnant. "Oh? And how did you manage to acquire such a powerful asset?"
"I found him near one of Atlas's outposts near the border. Apparently, he had been there for several days fighting off Grimm and the forces of nature alike. I offered him my assistance and my knowledge, and in exchange he works with me as one of my specialists alongside Winter." Ironwood grimaced as he remembered that day. He had never seen such a will to live inside a more injured person in all of his life, sans when he lost his own arm to a large Grimm of unknown title and origin.
"I see, and what element does he hold?"
"Wood, and yours?"
"He claims to be a White Dragonslayer, but if I were to associate it with anything I'd have to say something along the lines of Holy. It has quite the offensive capabilities, some of which I have yet to see."
"I see, so it seems we have quite the sword and shield at our sides." Ironwood comments, smirking at the possibilities of the future with their Dragonslayers.
"Yes but keep in mind, with these Dragonslayers comes their own enemy. One that even I am not sure how to counter." Ozpin says with a grimace. His hand clutches his mug ever so tighter.
Ironwood sighs and makes his leave, but before he leaves he parts with one final statement.
"Well, let's hope that they are strong enough to combat such an enemy."
Meanwhile in Beacon's library, Jaune was a confused spectator in one of the most epic and important battles taking place in Remnant.
On a piece of cardboard.
"So what is the point of this?" Jaune asked as his eyes scanned the colorful board laid out in front of him. He had never seen such a thing before, and from what he could tell it should have been more boring than it actually seemed to be for a group of people who fought the creatures of Grimm and terrorists on an almost regular basis.
"To control all of the territories of Remnant." Ruby stated with a dramatic gesture of the board.
That just confused Jaune even more, especially with the Vytal Festival rapidly approaching. The festival was supposed to support peace between all of the kingdoms, so why were they playing a game about total conquest for one kingdom. Also, why were Grimm even a faction? Aren't they training to fight the Grimm and prevent such a thing from happening? This kind of game seems to advocate violence and mayhem. Usually Jaune was all about such things, but the lack of war was great for everyone.
"Okay, but why is Yang the Grimm faction? Aren't they… you know… the bane of all humanity?"
Weiss had been wondering the same thing, but then again she was wondering about a lot of things in this game. Like why did she have to be the Vacuo faction. She was much more well versed with Atlesian terms. Also, why were most of her cards revolved around the harsh weather of Vacuo? Truly this game was a bit much for her, but she never passed up a chance to impress. Even if her performance in the game had been the opposite of that thus far.
Jaune watched as Yang rolled an eight and proceeded to destroy a large platoon of Ruby's brave soldiers. Ruby's body met the table as she groaned at the loss of most of her military might. Truly this game was a battle of wit and no small amount of luck. Now he really wanted to try this game, regardless of his lack of knowledge on long term strategy.
"I have… no clue what I'm doing." Weiss admitted, her eyes scanning her cards. The value of which she had no idea of. Some of them had numbers, but others had coin flips and dice rolls to determine their value. Yang leaned over to help her out and in doing so rearranged several of her cards, but after she provided her assistance she threatened Weiss with a declaration of war should she use a specific card against her.
After being informed of how close she was to victory, Weiss began to cackle and monologue about world dominance. Only to be shut down by a trap card used by Yang. Weiss began to sob, even as Ruby hopped into her lap to share her pain.
"Alright Blake, you're up." Yang stated, turning attention to the confused Faunus.
"So… what am I doing exactly?" Blake asked, just as confused as Weiss. Her cards relied more on democracy, with a few skilled huntsmen of old and new in her possession. None of which she understood how to utilize properly, so they were scattered around her kingdom being picked away by Yang's Grimm slowly but surely.
"You're Vale, trying to take control of the kingdom of Remnant." Yang said, making a move to help her out, but someone got to her first.
"Not that I know much of what's happening, but wouldn't it be easier to have your huntsmen group up and flank instead of having them so spread out?" Jaune asked, seeing the casualties pile up and her remaining forces lose morale, which was apparently another factor in this game.
"Maybe?" Blake said, her eyes gazing around the board. True to his word her forces were being drawn back to her main settlement, and it seemed all hope of victory was lost. That is, until Jaune stepped into the fold.
Jaune crouched down and narrowed his eyes in thought, and while Blake was finished with this game already, having Jaune lean over her left her with no room to actually leave the table. "Well you have a card here called Emergency Extraction, which says it brings back your huntsmen to your boarders instantly with the use of airships at the cost of a few energy. Then you can group them up and upgrade them with Faster Mechashift. Finally I think you can use Heroes Rising to spawn a huntsman-in-training in each of your remaining settlements so you can hold off any incoming attacks until you send you main force to help them." While Jaune didn't think he provided any useful advice, Yang felt otherwise.
"Noooo, I was gonna win in another turn!" Yang whined, seeing Blake put this plan into action. The huntsmen that were about to be finished off were recovered in an instant, leaving a good portion of her forces scattered throughout Vale's boundaries with no target. Then the settlements she was about to convert into spawning pools were suddenly reinforced with student huntsmen, raising their defense factors just high enough to avoid being destroyed by the small amounts of Grimm sent there to take them.
"Wow, that was surprisingly… uh…" Weiss muttered out slack jawed.
"Insane! How did you even do that?! It took us forever to understand how to combo out cards like that!" Yang complained. To be fair Jaune was not the sharpest knife in the armory, but that was just ridiculous! He had never even played the game before to her knowledge.
"Huh? Oh, that wasn't too hard. I've had enough practice with strategy." And boy was that statement true. Ozpin had forced him to play an innumerable amount of chess and other various strategy games as part of training him. He had gotten better over time, but he had never beaten the grey haired Headmaster.
While Blake was slowly getting a foothold once more in Remnant, two more students approached the cardboard battlefield. One of which most of the combatants recognized, but the other they did not.
"Sup losers?" Sun greeted casually from behind Blake, which a blue haired man in tow.
"Hey Sun," Ruby replied with a chirp, her eyes still on her cards in order to plan out her next move.
"Ruby, Blake, Yang, Dragon Boy, Ice Queen," Sun greeted those at the table respectively, nodding in the direction of each person he listed off. Even going as far as to present his fist to Jaune since he was close enough to initiate a more masculine greeting.
Jaune reciprocated, but had to ask, "Dragon Boy? That's the best that you can come up with?"
Sun shrugged, "Best I could come up with on the spot. You haven't given me much else yet, besides your obsession with food that is." Sun snickered, "Unless you want to be called Glutton Dragon or something."
Jaune grimaced, remembering when Glynda had called him something like that the first time that she saw him eat. She tried to teach him otherwise, but he still kept his old habits. "Dragon Boy is fine for now, I guess. Although I think Dragon Man is better."
Sun laughed loudly at that, as did Yang. The blue haired man nudged Sun and cleared his throat. Sun seemed to pick up on the signal and finally moved to introduce his friend.
"Oh, right. Everyone, this is Neptune. Neptune, everyone." Sun gestured to his friend, then back to the table.
Now with focus on Neptune, Jaune noted that Neptune's more striking feature besides his hair was his outfit. It seemed like a mixture between casual and steampunk, with the high collar, and several straps on his arms along with the goggles. He didn't look like much of a fighter, but then again neither did Ruby without her weapon.
"Aren't libraries for reading?" Neptune asked. His eyes gazing the board, and then to the group.
Jaune would disagree, only because he didn't like to read, but Ren seemed to agree with him. Even going out of his way to declare his agreement. In all honesty Jaune had never heard Ren yell so loudly, or as far as yelling went with Ren.
"C'mon, don't be a nerd." Sun complained light heartedly.
"Hey, hey. That's intellectual to you." Neptune retorted, wagging his finger at Sun like a dog that had soiled the rug.
Jaune, with his usual attention span, was now expectedly bored. Since it didn't seem like the board game was going to continue for a while he returned to his team. Although he did regret it not long after.
"Did you enjoy your break?" Pyrrha asked as he approached. Jaune had the grace to look confused, but Pyrrha assumed it was because he actually did forget what he was supposed to be doing before he wandered off.
"Uh, I guess? What did I take a break from?" Jaune asked. The look on Pyrrha's face made him regret the question.
"From studying of course," Pyrrha said as a fact, "You're behind in your Math and English courses."
'Oh hell no,' Jaune thought, "But I don't see the point in studying those classes. Not like it's going to help me when I fight Grimm and criminals. Maybe if I knew enough about math I could confuse a terrorist or two by giving them questions to answer, but I really don't see the point."
Pyrrha sighed. When she took the self-appointed role as study partner she really should have expected this. "You need to pass these courses to graduate Jaune. We may be huntsmen-in-training, but we are still students."
Jaune scoffed lightly, "Well I can't study on an empty stomach. Nora, want to get some food?" Jaune asked. He noticed that Nora was face down in a book, and certainly didn't want to leave her to suffer the pain of studying while he went to the cafeteria. So he might as well save her while he's at it. He didn't have any intention of returning anyways.
At this, Nora's head snapped up, "Sir, yes sir!" she snapped with a salute before vaulting over the table to join Jaune at the other side. Before Ren could stop her, they were both near the main entrance of the library.
"Should we join them?" Ren asked the remaining member of his team.
"Might as well, they were the main reason why we were here after all." Pyrrha conceded. She held a smile however. She really did let Jaune get away with too much, even though he was the leader of the team.
Before they actually left for the cafeteria though, Jaune noticed that Blake had abruptly left her team with a sour expression. Jaune was concerned, but he would just have to ask about it later. He already had a slight idea as to what her anger was towards.
A few days had passed without incident, as expected. However, Jaune had noticed that team RWBY had been a bit more secluded. They mostly stuck in their room, and while Jaune had the common decency to ignore such a thing. He did notice that they mentioned their weapon tune ups recently. While this was normal for them, the fact that they had all decided to perform these maintenance checks to their respective weapons around the same time did have him a bit suspicious.
Coincidentally Jaune had been walking past their room on his way back from when he heard a voice that really did not belong there, and heard a name that he really did not like.
"So, are we finally going after that Torchwick guy?" Jaune heard Sun ask. Almost immediately Jaune pressed himself against the wall near the door. While the occasional passerby saw this as weird, he couldn't find it in himself to care at the moment.
"We," Blake started, putting emphasis on the single word, "are going to investigate what's going on. As a team." Blake sounded annoyed, but Ruby cushioned the refusal.
"Sorry Sun, but we don't want to get friends involved if we don't have to." Ruby said, trying to politely stop him from getting involved.
"That's dumb, you should always get friends involved. That's why I brought Neptune." Sun said. Jaune had to wonder where Neptune could be for RWBY to not mention both him and Sun if they were talking to Sun. Jaune then heard Neptune's voice a bit further away than the others. So did they go through the window? Nah, that would just be dumb.
'Dumb enough to work.'
After some shuffling, most likely getting Neptune inside Jaune listened to their plan. It was basically to send three different groups into three different areas. With only a bit of complaint from Weiss about wanting to go with Neptune.
And just like that a door hit him in the face.
"Ow, dammit!" Jaune yelled as he held his face, his nose slightly red from the jarring impact.
"Jaune?" Ruby asked, with an upset Weiss being dragged behind her. Due to Weiss's poor footing she fell into Ruby after her abrupt stop. Thus, leaving them all on the ground. The remaining members in the room looked over to see the spectacle.
"What are you doing outside of our door?" Blake asked accusingly, crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes. She really didn't like people snooping around due to old habits.
"I heard you guys mention Torchwick. Are you actually planning on fighting him?" Jaune dusted himself off while he asked his question.
"How did you even hear that?" Sun asked, genuinely curious.
"Good hearing, comes with the semblance."
"Ah, that's cool."
"Enough!" Blake shouted, all eyes on her now. "Jaune, we already have enough people as it is, and as far as I'm concerned you can't fit in with any of our current roles. Yang and Neptune are taking her motorcycle. Even if you could fit onto the motorcycle, you would just get sick and be in the way."
"Also Ruby and I are on our way to the CCT, and it would just be inconvenient to bring you there. We are literally just looking at old files and news articles." Weiss added as she stood back up.
"And Sun and I are going to a…," Blake stopped herself before she gave out anything incriminating. After all, their door was still open. Blake quickly dragged him in with Ruby and Weiss in tow before slamming their door shut. "As I was saying, Sun and I are going to a White Fang rally. As much as I would not like to take him, he's insistent. It helps that he's also a Faunus, he can blend in just as well as I can."
"I can totally blend in with Faunus. I've been mistaken for one before." Jaune said, crossing his arms defiantly. They were not going to let him get shut out of this.
"How? You have no traits that would allow that." Blake accused.
At this Jaune smirked, while pointing at his teeth. Blake's eyes widened slightly and Sun's eyebrows rose. "I've got longer fangs than most people have. Also a part of my semblance." Jaune smirked, there was no way they were letting him out of this now.
Team RWBY looked amongst themselves, but before they could come up with their own answer Sun wrapped his arm around Jaune's neck and smirked.
"Dude, you just keep getting cooler and cooler!" Sun declared, he looked at Blake and patted Jaune on the chest, "C'mon, we've got the most dangerous job. It would be nice to have a powerhouse like Jaune with us. This'll be like a bonding experience."
Blake gave him a long stare, before sighing in defeat. "Fine," she muttered, but her eyes shifted to Jaune once more. "But if we see Torchwick again, you can't lose your cool like last time. We are not looking for a fight unless it's necessary, do you understand?"
The good vibe left the room, but Jaune's smirk remained, "I won't, that's a promise."
Blake sighed once more, and positioned herself so that everyone in the room could see her clearly, "Alright, let's go over the plan once more."
Vale at night was like a completely different city than during the day. Young men and women meandering about, some stumbling while others jovially went about their own excursions. The lights that practically exploded from buildings varied in multiple colors, as if trying to outdo each other.
Jaune had to be pulled along once or twice as he tried to stop and really look at them by a still slightly vexed Blake, while Sun laughed at his short attention span. Although all of their antics finally stopped once Blake had informed them that the White Fang meeting point was just a few blocks away.
Upon approaching the building Jaune could hear the light shuffling of feet and muted whispers from inside, likely the other attendees. Unfortunately, Blake had made Jaune switch clothes since she had seen what the symbol of his sweatshirt was. Honestly, how was a White Fang recruiter supposed to take such a thing seriously, it was a giant bunny!
Instead he had been forced into a plain black coat with long coat tails, which he wasn't happy about, but it did help him hide his weapon since it was strapped to his back. "Did I really need this coat though? I mean, you would think that an animal on my shirt would just make me even more believeable."
Before Sun even had a chance to smile at the comment, Blake sent him a glare that said enough, "Yes Jaune. It just looked ridiculous, and we need to blend into the crowd."
"But Sun gets to wear his open shirt thing!"
"You'd be surprised how many Faunus wear clothes like these." Sun replied, one hand gesturing to himself.
"Shut up both of you, we're here." Blake said, no nonsense required.
Both blonds closed their mouths with their teeth clacking together in unison. As easy going as they were, they knew when to get serious.
Before they entered the main room, Blake handed the two blonds White Fang masks. Which Jaune still didn't understand. He held the mask as if it smelled like a sewer.
"I still don't understand why the White Fang wear these. Weren't they a peace group at one point?" Jaune muttered, sighing as he got over himself and placed the mask on his face and drew his hood up.
"They were, but once the old leader stepped down and the new one took charge. His reason was that if the world wanted to see us as monsters, then we might was well look the part." Blake said with a sigh as she dawned her mask as well.
"Always sunshine and rainbows with these people." Sun replied with a hint of sarcasm.
"So was the guy who started it." Blake shortly replied, approaching the bouncer of the meeting.
As they approached, the doorman nodded to both Blake and Sun due to their obvious animal features, but held his arm stiffly in from of the entrance as Jaune approached.
"Whoa whoa whoa, are you even a Faunus?"
In response, Jaune growled angrily and bared his fangs, making the doorman shake nervously. With the long coat and the hood obscuring his features he really looked intimidating.
"S-sorry about that, please come in brother." The doorman stuttered out. Jaune nodded once, still frowning and keeping his glare on the man even after he had been allowed in.
Once he caught up to Sun and Blake, he was presented with quite an outstanding crowd. Well, as outstanding as a bunch of upstart terrorists could be. Still, had to admire how much influence this group had. White Fang flags were strung up from all directions, and several armed guards were watching the crowd carefully from the upper cat walks and from the crowd itself.
He was broken from his thoughts as a rather hulking man arrived onto the stage. It was clear that he was one of the higher ups of the White Fang, but his mere presence seemed to resonate with the crowd. His head had been shaven, but Jaune could tell that his hair color was black. His high collared shirt hid his armor underneath well, even though the chest armor peaked out from his torso. The most distinctive thing was his tattoo that covered most of his left arm.
"I'd like to thank you all for coming tonight. I am here to welcome you to our ranks, as well as introduce a special comrade of ours." The man proclaimed as he slowly walked across the stage. Jaune couldn't tell if the man had a microphone or if his voice just projected that loudly, but either way it was impressive.
But once their special guest arrived on stage, Jaune's temper flared.
"Torchwick…!" Jaune growled out. His eyes widened slightly when he felt a firm hand on his shoulder. His eyes followed the hand to meet Blake's own amber orbs that were barely visible behind her mask. She didn't say anything, but she really didn't have to. He had already messed up once in a similar situation. He couldn't afford to charge straight at the man on stage, not now at least.
"I assure you that he is the key for gaining what we have sought after for so long. I welcome, Roman Torchwick!" The large Faunus gestured. The response from the crowd was immediate. Loud boos and proclamations of human slander were echoed throughout the room. But Torchwick took it with ease, still holding his easy smile.
Roman even rolled with it like a professional. Calling out humans for their misdeeds towards the Faunus race and towards their own misdoings. Even going as far to use himself as an example.
"Fortunately, I'm the best exterminator around." Roman drawled, gaining the audiences attention once more. With a snap of his fingers, the back-stage curtain was drawn back. What it covered was something that struck fear into the huntsman trio.
"Is that…" Sun muttered in disbelief.
"A mech, and a big one at that. He must have stolen it from Atlas." Blake confirmed with a short nod. Truly the machine was an imposing sight, even to those who were hardened by battle. It's arms bearing weapons the likes of which were hardly displayed. It's chassis appearing to be as impenetrable as an actual tank. A modern marvel indeed.
In the possession of Torchwick.
As Roman explained how he had procured such a mech, Jaune's eyes roamed the stadium until they landed on a short girl with pink and black hair, with an outfit to match. While she wouldn't look like much to most people, Jaune could tell that she was not a person to be trifled with.
'She's dangerous,' he concluded. His desire for aggression halted even more than before.
Jaune watched as Roman enticed the crowd with the promise of victory, with him as the arms dealer. The large Faunus man took this as his chance to enter the show once more.
"Would all recruits please step forward!" The man shouted, his hand waving towards him. The trio looked at each other in an ever growing panic.
"Uh… So what the hell do we do now? Roman knows who you two are and I'm not exactly on his nice list." Jaune growled out, the crowd slowly pushing them forward.
"I'm thinking," Blake responded quickly, searching in all directions for any form of escape plan.
Unfortunately, they had stalled for long enough that Roman had noticed them. His crowd-pleasing smile descended into a hateful frown. His eyes going to the large Faunus man and the short colorful girl.
As Sun waved awkwardly at the dashing criminal, Blake spotted a power breaker, and suddenly she had an idea.
"He can't see in the dark." Blake stated, here hand already reaching for her weapon.
"But I can't either!" Jaune exclaimed loudly, lowering himself into a combat stance in case they charged at them.
"You'll have to make due!" Blake responded as she drew her weapon into its pistol form and firing at the power breaker.
In an instant the lights went out, causing cries of panic and surprise to be heard. Jaune could distinctly here the sound of a machine powering up, and assumed that it was the mech.
"C'mon, we have to go!" Sun called to him, tugging on his arm roughly.
Jaune however, had other plans. "This building is too big! If you guys tug me along I'm likely to slow you down anyways. Just go!" Jaune yelled back as he yanked his arm away from Sun and dashed into a different direction.
"Jaune!" Blake shouted, but no response returned.
"Run now, we have to go!" Sun grabbed the cat ninja's hand and together they ran. Blake took one last look at in the direction that Jaune ran only to see that he had already began firing his ranged aura attacks at the ceiling, hindering the advance on the mech ever so slightly.
'Damn it! We'll have to come back for him. There's no way he'll be able to hold off all of the White Fang here for too long.' Blake mentally debated as the two ran. They could only put their faith that he would last long enough for them to return. Damn him and his stupid thinking!
Back to Jaune, he had not hesitated to fire his White Dragon's Roar at the ceiling of the building, causing metal and stone to fall in front of where the mech had been running, along with some on the White Fang who had recovered fast enough to fire a few wild shots at the retreating duo.
This also allowed the moon to reveal itself in small pockets of light, granting Jaune the luxury of some vision. What he saw enlightened him in the situation he had ran himself into.
White Fang members with guns pointed solely at him, while others had their blades and clubs at the ready in case he rushed them. While he was confident that he would be able to deal with them at the cost of some armor, it was the sight of the large Faunus leader that had his true attention.
The man now held a large chainsaw, the blade revving up at a dangerous pace, his hidden glare leveled at Jaune's.
Jaune ripped off his obscuring mask. At least now he was able to see his opponents now thanks to his assault of the ceiling. Wasting no time Jaune threw off his coat to reveal a long white sleeved shirt with his armor strapped in their correct places. Drawing his sword and expanding his shield he waited for the onslaught of bullets to rain down on him.
But shockingly enough none of them attacked him yet. He noticed that some of them were looking back quickly to the large chainsaw wielding man. He then realized that they were waiting for their command to attack.
The man leaped from the stage, putting himself between the White Fang infantry and the White Dragon Slayer, his gaze never leaving Jaune's. Jaune raised his shield so that it covered the lower part of his face and rested his sword horizontally on the top of his shield, a stance shown to him by Pyrrha. Used to cover his torso and face from gunfire.
"There's no need for my brother's blood to be spilt on this day. All of you stay back unless I ask of it." The man commanded, and while none of them attacked they did not let their guard down.
Jaune had to smirk at this, "At least you're more caring to your people than Torchwick was. Plan on fighting me one on one?"
The man let a bloodthirsty smirk splay across his face, "Until further notice, yes. If you are who I think you are, then I can't let those less powerful to take this fight from me." The man finished as he roared and charged with his saw at the ready.
The first strike came from overhead, which Jaune sidestepped and let the saw slide down his shield. He wasn't dumb enough to know that taking such a weapon head on in a block would be a good idea. It was best to parry a heavy weapon and attack once the man was open.
But the man flowed with the momentum, spinning on his heel to swing horizontally. Jaune hopped back a step and charged forward, hoping to capitalize on the moment that the man was left open.
Jaune's eyes widened, however, as the man spun once more to uppercut the blond with a free hand as he allowed his weapon to flow with the spin. Jaune had to lean back just to avoid the blow. But Jaune being Jaune, he whipped his had back up to slam his head into the head of his opponent. The large man barely flinched, but his grin never faded. Jaune hopped back to gain a bit of distance and to reset his stance.
"Well, since you are so curious as to who I am, why don't you guess as to who I am? I'll confirm it if you are right." Jaune called out, his aura beginning to flare, "If you aren't, I'll make sure that you remember."
The man seemed to chuckle, "Fine then, if I am not mistaken, you are Jaune Arc, the Dragon Slayer of holy power, or the White Dragon's power." The man replied, taking slow steps towards the blond.
Jaune smirked, despite the situation, "Oho, got it in one. How about you return the favor? I don't have Roman to cheat off of for info." Jaune taunted, mimicking his opponent's approach, sword at the ready.
"Fair enough. My name is Lukai, but in the White Fang I go by Wolf." The man now known as Lukai/Wolf declared, his saw revving as if to enforce his name.
"Wolf? Sorry, but isn't that a bit literal?" Jaune asked, now nearly five feet from Wolf. To this the man chuckled once more.
"Trust me, it has more than one meaning."
Jaune did not reply this time, instead letting his sword speak for him. Jaune lashed out with an almost blindingly fast stab directly at Wolf, but the man merely swayed around the attack with grace that befell his appearance. Acting quickly, Jaune followed up with a spin and let his shield swing outwards in an arc.
Sparks flew as the blade of Wolf's saw collided with the shield. The teeth of the saw bit into the edge of the shield, throwing Jaune's arm out further than he had predicted. Jaune realized that he was now wide open for an attack, so he retaliated the only way that he knew how.
"White Dragon's Roar!" Jaune shouted as the white laser left his mouth.
What Jaune heard next made his eyes widen in shock.
"Lunar Dragon's Roar!"
The white laser collided with another of similar power and shape, although this laser was a pale yellow in color. The powerful attacks cancelled each other out, blowing Jaune backwards. Jaune held strong and did not fall, but he was still surprised of what he had just heard.
Lukai emerged from the smoke, saw at the ready as he held it with both hands, "That's right, I am Wolf. The Lunar Dragon Slayer. Better take a look at the moon above our heads, because it's the last one that you'll ever see."
There you go, one of the main problems that I have with writing, especially fanfiction is that I'm not good with environmental details. It's hard to put your own play on things when there's no need for it, but it's an essential part of any story, even if the fan base already knows what the areas look like. Also repeating dialogue. I try to add my own stuff to that, but some of it is either funny or important to the plot so I can only change so much.
Hopefully I'll see you all in less than two years. I'm trying to update Master of Arms and surprisingly The Elemental Hero, since I got back into Yu-gi-oh again. Not the show, just the game.
