This is it! The final chapter of this story! Started this way back in 2014... now 5 years later let's finish it!
Ch.12
Days had passed again and before Sora knew it a week had gone by. A week since he talked to Riku and learned about Kairi being real. And from that, it meant that Kairi would be coming back. Riku said he would stop by if in fact today would be the day she would return. If it was, the two of them would head to the train station where she would be arriving. There he would finally get to see her again.
Sora felt a bit of nervousness inside of him at the thought of it. He really did want to see Kairi again, but was worried how different she would be in the real life.
Riku had told him that Kairi was his friend and that she was a caring as he thought, but it still left him to wonder about many things. His palms became calmly and the room started to feel warm and stuffy. He needed some fresh air.
Exiting his room he made his way down the hallway and to the front door. He stepped outside and took in several deep breaths of fresh air. It had rained earlier in the morning, but it was clear and sunny now. But with that, it had left that nice freshly rained smell in the air.
He stood in the yard of the house, taking in the sights. He didn't go any further than the house though. Riku would be showing up eventually to tell him if Kairi was back or not. And he needed to be there for that. It would have been foolish to decide to walk off someone on such an important day.
Though as he stood there, taking in fresh deep breaths, his thoughts wandered. In the last week he had learned so much about this real life. Things still did not really come back to him though. A few things did when he was in a conversation with Xion or even Roxas, but other than that it was still barely anything. But each time he was told about something or someone in this life, he felt it in his heart that he should know it. At least now that he was retold about it, he planned not to forget.
In that same weeks time he had put a lot of effort and time into writing about his dream. From that, he had made a lot of progress. He had pages now filled with notes about almost everything. From characters, to enemies, to objects, and magic, he had written down nearly everything that was all in his strange, crazy coma dream.
He would finally be able to go back and write out more of the plot that actually happened now. Though at first he had a bit of concern. He thought deeply on a lot of it, and he could remember things, but there was a few hazy parts. The dialogue. He could not remember every single thing said throughout the entire thing. At first it had worried him. He was worried he was slowly forgetting it and he would lose what he had.
But with more time and thought, he saw it was only natural. No one could remember every single thing they ever said to everyone. That would be near impossible. But the best he could do would be to have a generalized remembrance of what was suppose to go down. From there he could try to make it as close as he could. He knew it couldn't be perfect, but he knew at least he would be getting the story down. That was the most important, not the itty bitty words said around. But thankfully he did recall some of the more important things.
Sora's mind then switched to a different series of thoughts. The thoughts about his friends and family in the real life took center focus. He had learned so much about his real life since waking back up. He now knew more than he had expected, and it still surprised him how different things were.
Though he still could hardly remember Vanitas, the pictures Xion had shown him were enough. He had felt things in his heart, that gave him the feeling that he should feel. Besides, he loved looking at the photos, even if they made his heart feel heavy.
He had considered the thought of talking to his mother about Vanitas. He knew that his mother may have known something more than what Xion knew, but it depended if she wanted to talk about the subject. While Sora was curious to know the whereabouts of his older brother, he tried not to get his hopes too high. If he could know though, he would want to find Vanitas. He wanted to see him in person in this life. Then again there was so many things in his life he still wanted to do.
There was still so much he still had to learn about his life. So many more people to meet… or remeet in the technical sense. He still had not brought up everyone to Xion, but he tried asking about a few others. He even had asked Roxas a few things, hoping his side of things would also help clear up a few questions. It was mainly to learn about the world he lived in, even if he didn't act right away on it. Once he felt more ready and confident in himself, he would go out to those others and talk to them.
"Sora, hey you in there?" a voice said.
Sora jumped before looking to his left. Riku was standing there, looking a bit surprised. "Oh sorry! I didn't mean to startle you."
Sora shook his head, breathing deeply to calm his startled heart. "It's okay," he said in between breaths. "Just was lost in my thoughts."
"But isn't that like all the time?" Riku chuckled.
"Oh ha ha, very funny," Sora mocked to his friend. "So you got news about Kairi?"
Riku formed a smile slowly. "Yeah, I got word that her flight came in a few hours ago. She's still probably on the train, but should be coming in soon."
"Come on then!" Sora exclaimed. "Let's get over there!"
"You sure? Your head out of the clouds yet? Or are you about to get lost in them again?"
Sora scrunched up his nose. He was not about to let his friend get the best of his spacey mindset. "Quit it and move it!"
He started to push against Riku, hoping he would start walking already. But no matter how hard he pushed, Riku wouldn't budge. Was Riku just that strong to keep still? Maybe he was just heavy. But then again, Riku always had been the stronger of the two, and now he was technically two years ahead of Sora.
Riku stood there, letting out a laugh. Finally he started to move his feet without warning, causing Sora to stumble forward a little. "All right! All right! I can see you are excited. We better hurry before you explode."
Sora pouted as he followed after Riku. "Stop teasing already! Yes, I'm excited to see Kairi! It's not that big of a deal."
"Aw, come on, me? Teasing? Never!" Riku exclaimed with a heavy tone of sarcasm. "And to correct you, actually it is a big deal. You haven't talked or seen her in two years."
Sora sighed. "Okay… you're right. But I don't want you to be teasing me in front of Kairi! You better not do any of that!"
"Hey, come on, I always teased you, why can't I do it this time?" Riku asked in a joking manner.
"Cause you just said it. This is a big deal for me to see Kairi. I don't want it to be messed up with your teasing," Sora replied with crossing his arms.
Riku smiled at his childhood friend, happy to still see the usual goofy yet stubborn attitude. He smirked. "Okay, I promise I won't interrupt your fateful lover's reunion."
"Riku!"
"Okay okay! That's the last one." He paused for a second. "For now at least."
"Ahh!" Sora exclaimed as he pulled on his hair, though he couldn't hide the laughter in his voice.
Sora shook his leg repeatedly. They had only been at the train station for ten minutes and he was already a nervous, anxious mess. He had tried to sit down, hoping to relax and calm his nerves, but that is when his shaking leg began to start. He didn't bother to stand up though, fearful he wouldn't have the strength and would crumple to the ground.
Riku sat beside him, keeping a hand on his back. He gave no tease or funny jab unlike before. He knew when to be serious, and he could see that Sora was in need of some friendly comfort. He gave a calm and simple smile, hoping he could offer some words to ease Sora's tension.
"Relax, Sora. She'll show up soon."
"I know that, but that isn't what I'm worried about," Sora replied quietly.
"Then what are you worried about?" Riku asked, trying to figure out what could cause his friend to act so fidgety. He knew it did have to do with Kairi, but the exact details weren't so clear.
"What if… What if she doesn't recognize me? What if she finally moved on thinking about me while on her trip? What if-"
"Sora!" Riku raised his voice, trying not to draw attention from others at the station.
Sora turned his head slowly and looked at Riku, worried clearly shown all over his face.
Riku sighed. "I know you are concerned about those things, but you know she wouldn't forget about you or not recognize you. And I know for sure she wouldn't move on thinking about you. You'd really think she'd do that? One of your closest childhood friends just suddenly forgetting about you?"
Sora shiffed, turning his head away. It was clear that he was debating hard on his thoughts on Riku's words. "I… I don't know. I can't help it though. This is really something for me. I'm getting to see her again and for her it's been two years. For me barely anytime, but it was just a dream version of her."
Riku had a quick thought to make another tease. He was rather tempted, but he had promised Sora he would cut back for now. He laughed in his head, he knew he could just save it for another time later. Instead he gave Sora another pat on the back.
"Sora, after you feel into that coma, I still talked with Kairi. Even before she left for her trip she told me to go visit you for her. She hasn't stop caring for you one bit."
"But what… what if she met someone on her trip? What if she has a b-boyfriend," Sora asked, his voice dipping down into a whisper.
"I doubt that. I am sure if that did happen, she would have told me. We still kept in touch while she was studying out there. You just gotta breath Sora. You are going to be okay. All of this is going to be fine."
Sora shook his head. "I don't know if I can do this anymore. I think maybe I should just go back."
Sora tried to stand up, but Riku grabbed his wrist. "No. You came all the way here, so you are staying. I know you Sora, you aren't one who likes to back out."
"I know, but I have never felt so nervous before. Out of every crazy thing that happened in my dream, this scares me much more," Sora replied before he sat back down. He knew Riku was right and that he was only trying to help. It was true that he didn't like to back out of things either. But this anxiety burning inside of him didn't help one bit.
Suddenly the sound of a train horn drew their attention. They looked down the track and saw that a train was approaching the station. Sora felt his muscles tighten. Kairi was on that train. He was going to get to see her, in the real world. He would get to talk with her properly unlike the short times he had when on his adventures. There wasn't going to be anything to tear them apart this time.
The train rolled in and came to a stop. After a few moments the doors opened and people stared to walk out. Sora and Riku stood up and started to look around for her. There weren't too many people coming out of the train, but it still made it hard to see which door she could have come out of.
Finally Sora caught glimpse of a shade of red hair. A familiar strawberry-like red hair. Without any words he nudged Riku and pointed. Riku looked and smiled, giving a slight nod. They decided to walk for the other people to clear as it seemed Kairi was coming in their direction anyways.
Sora froze up as soon as she came into full view. She looked far more beautiful than he ever dreamt of her. Her hair was much longer, tied in a loose ponytail with it draped over her right shoulder. Bangs gently covered her forehead, but did not fall too far down in front of her eyes. She wore a white shirt with a colorful floral design that spread across most of it. Over that she had a light, pink colored jacket. Her jean shorts also had some color flower-like designs to them, and her shoes were a light arrange of pastel colors.
She was only a few feet away from Riku and Sora when she stopped dead in her tracks. Her eyes locked with Sora and neither of them moved an inch. Riku saw how the two of them looked at each other. He smiled and took a few steps back, deciding to let them have some space.
Sora couldn't move. He was completely entranced by seeing Kairi. Not only was he more than happy to see her, but his heart was filled with so many emotions. He could only assume that she was feeling the same.
Finally she broke the ice between them and moved forward. Now she stood only a few inches from Sora. She opened her mouth, but no words came out. She placed a hand over her mouth instead as tears filled her eyes.
"S-Sora?" she asked, her voice cracking slightly.
Sora nodded quickly. "Y-Yeah. I… I'muh…" he trailed off, unable to find a way to finish. He was still caught in deep shock from seeing Kairi again.
Kairi dropped the bags that were in her hands and threw her arms around Sora. "You're awake! You-You're back!"
"Yeah that," Sora said weakly, now with her own tears forming. "I'm back now."
"Oh my gosh, Sora," Kairi whispered into his ear. "I've missed you, so, so much."
"I know," Sora started. It only occurred to him then that Kairi was still holding him in her arms. He only stood there frozen like a stature. Slowly he raised his arms and placed them around Kairi. "I'm sorry I worried you and everyone else."
"You don't have to be sorry, you didn't choose what happened to you. None of that matters anymore though. You are here now, and that is the best surprise for me."
Sora smiled. "I'm glad you didn't forget about me." He didn't really mean to say that aloud, but he was too overwhelmed to think his thoughts through carefully.
"I never would forget about you! Not ever! I couldn't do that. You mean far too much to me," Kairi replied as her hold on Sora tightened slightly.
"Th-Thank you Kairi," Sora replied, happy to hear those words. He wanted to say more, he had so much on his mind. But no thoughts would process right anymore. All he could think about was that he was seeing Kairi again and they were holding each other in their arms.
"Of course," Kairi replied. She sighed happily. "Thank you for coming to see me today."
"I really wanted to see you, I couldn't stop thinking about you since I woke up. I wasn't sure if I could wait much longer."
Kairi laughed as she leaned back, pulling away from the hug. She stared at Sora's face, looking into his teary eyes. She reached forward and placed a hand on Sora's cheek. She laughed. "Then I guess that's some good timing, right?"
Sora laughed in return. "For sure!"
Her smile grew larger and she leaned closer to Sora's face. "We have a lot to catch up on, don't we."
"You better believe it," Sora said, feeling far more confident and calm than he was moments ago. "I have some interesting stories to tell."
"Good," Kairi said before kissing Sora on the lips, completely catching him off guard. "Can't wait to hear them."
Sora kept smiling. He was starting to feel giddy now. This event was turning out far better than he could have ever expected. It almost felt like the start of an adventure, almost like back in his coma dream. But this felt so much better. And he could only imagine where it would go from there. But he couldn't wait to find out.
It took me some time to think all of this through, but here it is. I still can't believe i started this in 2014. It doesn't feel like that long ago. But thank you all SO much for sticking with me all of this time! Hope you liked the final chapter!
