Note: It wasn't months before I managed an update! I'm proud of myself right now! Okay, so, I really hate the Moon Calf Collective storyline, but that episode has some major plot development in it, so I'm going to take that, ignore the stupid cult nonsense and go from there. Sound good? Okay, then let's get down to it!
Once Weevil had her calmed down, he brought her back to his place, figuring she wouldn't want to face the Sheriff quite yet. Letty was gone, so it was the perfect place for them to be alone. He took in her appearance as he brought her a glass of water, she was on the edge of his bed, red faced with a glazed look in her eyes.
"What did he say, exactly, V?" he asked, handing her the water as he sat down next to her.
Weevil wasn't sure how she could go in to see Koontz and come out convinced that Duncan was her brother. The facts seemed a bit circumstantial at best, but she seemed so sure, not a doubt in her mind as far as he could tell, he on the other hand, wasn't so convinced.
"That I didn't get my dedication from my mom. He told me I was—" she choked back tears, "I was my father's daughter. He told me I was the product of the King and Queen of the Prom."
"How would he know?" he questioned.
"He worked for Kane Software before I was born. He said he knew my mom. That she would visit the office on lunch hours. Plus, I know she had an affair with Jake Kane."
"Come here, Chica." he replied, opening his arms to her, seeing how she was able to connect the dots with what Koontz told her.
He knew his family was not picture perfect, but he never would have guessed that Veronica Mars would be more screwed up than he was, and he had been the one to find his mother's body. He held her as she calmed herself again.
"It all makes sense." she breathed out finally. "Take me home? I've got something to show you."
"Alright." he agreed, seeing the determination and anger in her eyes. This he was familiar with, this was his Veronica.
Mr. Mars was home, but as they entered the apartment, he was asleep on his chair, coffee in hand, file open on his lap. The way it looked to Weevil, Keith Mars was plenty dedicated to his job, and his daughter. Following Veronica into her room, he watched as she made a beeline for her desk, gabbing a folder she'd buried beneath everything else she'd gathered about Lily's case.
"I found these the day after you helped me get back at Troy." she told him, handing him the file containing the surveillance photos of her from just after Lily's death.
"What the hell, V?" he growled. "You kept this a secret, why?"
"Because they were sent to my mom, not me. They were threatening her."
"Sure as hell don't look that way! It's your face in the crosshairs, baby." he argued.
"I know," she told him, putting a soothing hand on his arm. "But think about it. Jake Kane covers up Lily's murder, my dad goes after him, in an attempt to silence him, Jake sends these to my mom. This is why she left."
"Okay, so how do we find out who took these pictures?" he asked, imagining all the things he'd like to do to the person who had taken those pictures.
"You always know just what to say." she smiled, pulling out the picture of her in front of a book week sign. "We find out when book week was last year."
"First week in February." he replied, much to her disbelief. "What? I actually like reading."
"Okay, now I know which Thursday. Come on."
Weevil drove them downtown to the spot the pictures of Veronica had been taken.
"Stand right here." she instructed. "I'll be right back."
"So, you brought me along to model?" he joked.
"I always said you were just a pretty face." she laughed, running off.
As Weevil watcher her take a seat at a table at the café across the street, his phone began ringing.
"Felix." he answered.
"We ridin tonight Weevil?"
"Yeah." he replied, pacing on the spot. "Just give me an hour, I'm helping Veronica with something."
"Okay, could we make it two? Ma wants me to do something." he said.
"Sure man, send out the time." he told him, hanging up.
Weevil had begun to wonder when he and Felix had started hiding information from each other, he knew Felix wasn't helping his mother, but he didn't know what he was really up too; he also couldn't figure out why he felt the need to hide what he and V were up too, but before he had a chance to really think about it, he looked up to see Veronica walking over, a triumphant look on her face.
"Clarence Wiedman." she stated, handing over the copy of the receipt.
"How'd you figure that one out?" he asked, looking the receipt over.
Veronica pulled up the picture she took of him on the phone with Felix.
"Anyone ever tell you how handsome you are when conducting business?" she asked, showing him the photo.
"I doubt anyone other than you has ever called me handsome." he laughed.
"Well, they were wrong." she promised.
"If you say so, mama. You got me another two hours, then I head out with my boys."
"Want to spy on my stalker?" she asked excitedly.
It didn't take long to get Clarence Wiedman's address, and they pulled up across the street in Veronica's car.
"I don't like four walls on wheels." he told her.
"It's hard to have a stake out on two wheels, Weevil."
"Yeah, so this the place?"
"Yup. Speak of the Devil…" she beamed, pulling out her camera.
They followed the man to Kane Software, watching him park in the preferred employee parking lot. Veronica pulled out her phone, dialing the main number for the company, hitting speaker.
"Kane Software, how can I direct your call?" beamed the cheery voice of the receptionist.
"Clarence Wiedman, please?"
Weevil's eyes locked on hers as the call transferred straight to voicemail, identifying Wiedman as head of Security for Kane Software.
"Home. Now. You don't touch this without me, we clear?" he ordered.
"I don't take orders, Weevil." she told him adamantly, hands gripping the wheel tightly.
"And I don't let my girl get into trouble on her own." he returned, placing a hand on hers.
"What trouble is there in tailing him? I'd bring Backup."
"The man is three times your size, head of security for a fortune 500, and he's taken pictures of you with your beautiful face in crosshairs. What about that doesn't scare you, V?!"
"Lily." she stated simply. "Lily wouldn't be scared. And that man knows what happened to her, Weevil, so I can't be scared."
"Your dad teach you how to tail people?" he relented, already knowing the answer.
"He won't even know I'm there." she smiled.
"You go with Backup, not alone. And you check in, alright?"
"Now that, I can do." she smiled. "Thank you."
Veronica wasn't exactly sure what she was thanking him for, giving in to her selfish ways, or understanding her obsessive need to find the truth; either way, she was grateful.
"Thank me when you're still alive after you solve this."
"Home?" she asked.
"Yeah." he replied, liking the sound of that word on her lips.
