A/N: So here it is! The last chapter of Magik. Wait...do you hear that?...Yup, that's what you think it is, my sobbing. I'm very tearful as I post this chapter. There is much more to come for Kim and she's got so much more growing up to do. However, this is the first story I will have completed on FF. It's been a great journey and it's hard to believe that a little under nine months ago I started this story. SnowWolf22 was my first reviewer and I couldn't have been more excited. With each review that I've gotten since her's it's been just as exciting. After posting a chapter I'll constantly refresh my email account on my phone to see if someone's reviewed. You've been loyal readers and I couldn't be happier. My story has over 15,000 views and I couldn't have achieved that without any of you. I just want you all to know how much I appreciate what you've done. It may seem small, but with every follow, favorite, and review it made my confidence swell. I know I still have a long way to go but I know that one day with hard work and determination I'll be able to publish my own Original Work. Until then, I have Kim to work with and develop and all of you behind me. You truly do not understand what you're kind words and readership means to me. Thank you. Now enough of my speech. Enjoy this last chapter of the first installment of the Magik Chronicles.
WARNING! There is a mature scene about halfway through this chapter. I will warn you before it pops up.
I stand on top of what once must have been a beautiful building. Now it's in shambles. All around me once beautiful buildings are lying in shambles. Some are collapsed. Between the buildings I can see people. Their clothes are dirty and torn.
I look up at the sky and see dark grey clouds swirling around. Lightning flashes and thunder booms. In seconds the storm clouds release it's strikes around me and thunder booms. I'm soaking wet and a bolt of lightning strikes the building a few feet from me. I release a scream and drop to the ground.
Suddenly the rain stops. My clothes are dry once again. The rubble that was poking me in the face is replaced with grass. I open my eyes and everything has changed. The storm is gone and the sun has taken it's place. The ruins of buildings are gone as well. The people in rags are gone too.
I stand to my full height and take in my new surroundings. Before me is a beautiful garden expanding farther than the eye can see. In the garden are what appear to be tents. Thousands of people move about. Ages range from newborns to the elderly. Their clothes look worn but are expensive silk compared to the people I saw before.
"Kimberly," a voice calls from behind me.
I turn and find Topaz standing before me. He's older, a lot older, than the last time I saw him. Behind him is a large castle that sparkles in the sunlight. It looks as if it's made from a dozen different types of gems.
"It's nearly time," Topaz tells me. "We have faced some difficulties opening the last ward. The Child has called upon reinforcements. They have left our world in shambles. The only safe haven left for anyone is the castle."
"Is that what I saw first?" I ask. "That ruined city and that storm. That resulted from the Lords of Chaos?"
"The Child is the only Lord of Chaos that is here. The other two are agents that the Child has created. One is of Gemworld and the other is of Earth. The one from Earth calls himself Doctor Chaos. He is similar to the one called Doctor Fate on Earth. The one of Gemworld is an old foe we've fought before. Somehow The Child found a decedent of Dark Opal. She calls herself Countess Opal and is a force to be reckoned with," Topaz informs me.
I gesture to Topaz. "What about you? You said Gemworld's timeline is twice as fast as Earth's. You're at least five years older than when I last saw you."
Topaz looks down. "It is something The Child has done to prevent you from coming. He is trying to discourage you from coming. Time is now three times as fast in Gemworld than on Earth. A day on Earth is three days in Gemworld."
"So he's trying to scare me away?" I ask.
Topaz bows his head. "It seems so, Princess."
I put my hand up. "Not Princess. It's Kim or Magik. How long until you arrive?"
"In Earth time, eight hours. I would have informed you sooner but The Child and his partners have been making it extremely hard to contact you," Topaz apologizes.
"It's fine," I tell him. "I need to say goodbye to my loved ones. Is there anything I need to bring with me?"
"Anything of importance. A portal will appear to you in eight hours. Before entering wait for these to be thrown through," Topaz instructs holding up a sword and shield. They are decorated with amethyst stones and made from what looks to be pure gold. "There will be a battle brewing on the other side of the portal. You must be prepared to fight upon stepping through. You are the only one to come through, is that understood Kim?"
I nod my head. "I understand. I will be prepared to fight."
Topaz gestures behind me."You may leave when you are ready."
I turn and see a door. I step forward and grab hold of the knob. Before I turn it something occurs to me. "Wait. King Topaz, I have a question."
I turn to see Topaz has moved closer to me. "I will do my best to answer it," he replies.
"What is this? How are you visiting me?" I ask.
Topaz gestures around us. "It's a spell. I cast it before going to sleep. It allows me to communicate with others without being detected. It also allows for cross-dimension communication. The caster can dictate the landscape and their own appearance."
"Would I be able to cast this spell to stay in touch with my loved ones? That way they know that I'm okay," I question.
He thinks for a moment before shaking his head. "It takes years to perfect and requires a lot of your mana. I have been storing mana since our last visit to make this spell go through."
My spirits fall at this news. I will truly be going who knows how long without my family and friends. Without Wally. "I will see you soon," I tell Topaz before twisting the knob and walking through the door.
(MAGIK!)
I sit up and look around the room. The Book of Amethyst falls to the floor from my chest and knocks a pile of magic books down. I look at the clock hanging on the wall in the library to see the time.
It's 9:42 p.m. I have until 5:42 a.m. to say my goodbyes and have everything ready to go. I grab several of my magic books, including the Book of Amethyst, and hurry to my room. Along the way I bang on Bruce's study and Dick's bedroom doors. They both exit their rooms in time to see me scurrying away.
When they find me I'm in my room packing a backpack I had experimented on a few weeks ago. I was working with the old magic again and created a pocket dimension that was accessible through the backpack. I had already thrown magic books, regular books, a few articles of clothing, and several spare Magik uniforms in it.
"What's going, Kim?" Bruce asks while entering the room.
Dick comes trailing in behind him yawning. "Yeah. It's almost ten at night. I was taking my pre-patrol nap."
"Topaz just contacted me. He's sending for me in," I stop scurrying around the room to look at my clock, "Seven hours and fifty-one minutes. I've got finish packing, say goodbye to everyone, and make sure any unfinished business is finished."
"Slow down," Bruce tells me gently. "We'll help you prepare. Dick can call and tell the team to meet at the Cave ASAP. I'll wake Jason and get Alfred so you can say goodbye. The three of us are to meet in the parlor in fifteen minutes."
True to Bruce's nature he takes charge of the situation and deviates tasks. Dick runs off to contact everyone while Bruce heads across hall to get Jason and I finish packing. I pack a few more books from my room before running back to the library to get a few books I forgot. By the time I reach the parlor everyone is already there.
I put my back to the ground before telling Alfred and Jason what's going on.
"It's time for me to go to Gemworld. I don't have much time to get everything in order and say goodbye," I inform them with a sad smile.
Jason crosses his arms in defiance. "Why do you have to go? I've only been here a month and you're already leaving me. That's not fair."
I move forward and place my hands on his shoulders. "I know it's not fair but life's not fair. If they didn't absolutely need me I wouldn't be going. I'll be back as soon as I can, I promise."
Jason uncrosses his arms and slings them around my waist, pulling me in for a tight hug. "It's not fair but they need you. Just come back and come back soon."
I return his hug and reply, "I will do my best, Jason. This isn't forever. Just be good and try to get along with Dick. Both of you are going to be sister less for a little while."
Jason snorts but nods his head. "I'll try for you."
I chuckle and ruffle the boy's hair. Next I turn to Alfred. The elderly man has tears in his eyes and pulls me in for a tight hug.
"Do stay safe, Miss Kimberly, and try to come back in one piece. It will not be the same around here with you gone," Alfred whispers in my ear.
I hold on tightly for the few minutes the hug lasts before letting go and giving him a brave smile. "I'll do my best. Just promise you'll keep a close eye on these three. Make sure Bruce socializes and that Dick and Jason don't kill each other."
Alfred gives me a smile. "Of course, Miss Kimberly."
I reach up and kiss the elderly man on the cheek before moving onto Bruce. "Watch after them," I tell him. He knows I include the Team in the them I use. "Be there for Jason." I pull Bruce in for a hug, something he rarely gets. I whisper so low that only he can hear. "Tell Jason. Let him in on what's going on. Start training him. He can take it."
I pull away from Bruce and he gives me a sad smile. "Be careful. Watch your back and don't trust anyone. Take everything in and learn from it. Don't get distracted from what you are there to do. Distractions can be costly. Everyone will be here when you get back."
I take his advice and give him one last hug before moving to Dick. Dick is the one that I'm closest to in this room and is the one that's the hardest to say goodbye to right now. We hug and Bruce ushers everyone else from the room to give us privacy. Once the room is cleared tears start falling from Dick's eyes.
"Don't die. Promise me you won't die. I've lost a mom and dad already. Don't make me lose a sister as well," he pleads with me.
I hold Dick tight and my tears start to flow. "I will come back to you, Dick. I promise. I will battle whatever I have to so I can come home. Promise me that you'll keep going. Watch out for Wally. Make sure he's living his life without me here. I don't want to come home to find an empty shell waiting for me. Take care of yourself too. Don't die while I'm gone, okay? Stay traught."
Dick nods his head and we hug for a little while longer. It's hard saying goodbye to my brother. It is truthfully one of the hardest things I've done. Saying goodbye to Jason was hard as well but Dick and I helped each other with our losses when we where younger. We are closer than siblings, we are best friends and it is hard to say goodbye for now.
(MAGIK!)
I pace back and forth in the Cave while I wait for the other's to arrive. I had already said my goodbyes to Megan, Conner, Rocket, Zatanna, and Aqualad. Megan, Conner, and Zatanna where now waiting in the living room/kitchen watching static. Aqualad had to return to Atlantis to deal with something concerning Queen Mera. I asked him give her my best wishes and he promised to do so. Wally had arrived sometime ago but I had asked him to wait for me in his room that he used when missions lasted late into the night.
The only person I was waiting for now was Artemis. She had been out on patrol already with Green Arrow. Canary had stopped by to say goodbye as well and informed me as soon as they got through with a drug smuggling ring she would be by. That had been an hour ago.
Every minute that I wait to say goodbye to Artemis eats away at the time that I could be spending with Wally. I have four hours and forty-seven minutes before I have to leave and I would like to spend that with my boyfriend. However, I couldn't leave without telling her goodbye and I know the moment I say goodbye to Wally we won't be able to separate until the portal appears.
Recognized Artemis B07
The Zeta platform dies down and Artemis comes hurrying off still clothed in her uniform. She's cut in some places and bleeding as well but she doesn't seem to realize it. She immediately pulls me into a hug.
"Don't you dare go and die on me. I swear I'll resurrect you only to kill you again," she threatens while hugging me a little to tight.
"To tight, Artemis," I tell her with the little bit of air she's allowing me to have.
Artemis releases me and steps a few feet back. "Sorry," she tells me but I doubt she's in the least bit sorry.
I give her a smile before my tears start to fall. I pull her into another hug but this one I can breath. "I'm going to miss you," I tell her.
"I'm going to miss you too," she says with a sniffle. "You come home. Do you understand? You can't do that to your family and friends. Especially Wally."
"I'm going to come home, Artemis. I'm not going to leave and never come back. I couldn't and wouldn't do that to any of you, especially Wally," I tell her.
"It's not going to be the same without you. You joined the team not long after I did. We both found our place on the team together. We've had our ups and downs, but you're the best friend I've ever had," Artemis admits after pulling out of our hug.
"I agree we've had our moments and I wouldn't have wanted to go through my journey of becoming a hero with anyone else. You keep Wally in line and make sure you take care of Roy. He needs someone to lean on right now. When I get back I expect some girl time and we are going to tell each other everything," I tell her.
Artemis and I hug again before pulling apart. "I'm not going to tell you goodbye because I'll see you again. Hopefully it's real soon," I tell her.
Artemis gives me an encouraging smile. "Go to Wally. I know you haven't said goodbye yet. If I were you I'd want to save my boyfriend for last as well."
I hug Artemis one last time. "You know me so well," I tell her.
She waves me on. "I'll see you when you get back. Go enjoy your last few hours with him. I'll keep everyone out of your hair," she orders before turning and heading to where the others are.
(A/N: This is the beginning of the M Rating.)
I don't wait another second before teleporting to Wally's room. Before I can get my bearings I'm rammed into and knocked on the bed. Wally's body is pressing mine into the bed and his face is inches from my own. His eyes are red and I know he's been crying.
Wally pants for a moment with our eyes locked on each other. Neither of us say anything to each other. With no words between each of us, we both lock onto the other, both of us eager to get as much out of these last four hours together before who knows what would happen.
Our lips lock onto each other and with passion driving both of us, we fight for dominance. Wally's the one that wins out and his tongue slips into my mouth, exploring my mouth. He's done it before but this time he's taking his time, soaking it all in.
My arms wind around his neck and I grab a fistful of his hair, pulling him deeper into the kiss. Wally obliges and wraps his own arms around me. He pulls me closer to him and I feel as if our bodies were made for each other. Mine fits perfectly against his. Wally's relinquishes my mouth and starts kissing my jawline. Slowly but surely he makes his way down to my neck and when he reaches my collarbone he looks up to me for permission. I nod my head and he starts unbuttoning my shirt, kissing as he goes along. He stops at my belly button and retraces his kisses. When he reclaims my mouth once again, I flip him over and straddle him. Now it's my turn.
I start pulling his shirt up without breaking the kiss. I only pull out of it when the shirt is high enough to pull over his head. I toss the shirt to the side and start at his jawline, kissing my way down to his collarbone. I pay special attention to his collarbone before making my way down to his ribs, then his stomach. When I get to his belly button Wally flips me over and is straddling me, his weight being distributed mostly to his knees.
Wally grabs my blue jeans but pauses to look me in the eyes. I can see all the love he holds there. He wants to do this. He wants to go all the way. We've talked about it a few times but never really committed to anything. I know that this would be his first just like it would be mine.
I reach out and start unbuttoning his jeans. I want to do this too. I don't know what's going to happen in a few hours. I don't know when I'll see him again. All I do know right now is that I want him and he wants me.
Wally doesn't wait for further approval. He unbuttons my pants and soon the two of us are in nothing but our underwear. Wally unclapses my bra before moving to my panties. I remove his underwear as well and the two of us have a moment to take the other him.
Wally ends that moment by reaching out and pulling me towards him. He leans in to take my mouth once more but stops short and whispers against my lips, "You're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
(MAGIK!) (A/N: End of the M Rating.)
I curl up closer to Wally and nestle further into his chest. He in turn, pulls me closer. I only have thirty minutes to go before the portal is supposed to appear and I'm not looking forward to that moment. The past four hours have been the best of my life. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
"How much longer?" Wally murmurs sleepily.
I twist until I find his neck. I give it a kiss before resting my head there. "Not long enough," I reply.
I know Wally's sleepy but he refuses to go to sleep until I'm gone. I'm still reeling from the two hour nap I took almost eight hours ago.
Wally tightens his arms around me. "I don't want you to go," he whispers.
"I know," I reply. "But I have to do this."
He nods his head and kisses me on the temple. "I'm going to miss you," Wally tells me.
"I'm going to miss you too," I respond as a few tears start falling. "Wally, I'm afraid."
Wally adjusts us to where we can see each other better. "Afraid of what? You've been confident this entire about going to Gemworld. You've had no doubt."
"Because I couldn't be. I've had to be strong for everyone else. That and I've put it to the back of my mind. I don't want to leave. I don't want to go to this strange place where I know no one or anything about this culture. I don't know what's going to happen there. I don't know what's going to happen here while I'm gone. What if something happens to someone? What if something happens to me? We won't know any of this! What if I come back in ten years and you've fallen in love with her?" Tears are pouring down my face as I finally release these fears I've had for the past couple months.
Wally sits the two of us up and takes my face in both his hands. Using his thumbs, he wipes away my tears. "I can't imagine a future without you. I don't want a future without you. I want you because you are mine and I am yours. There is no turning back, babe. You're stuck with me. You come back with some magician stuck on your arm and he'll have me to get through. I'm not giving up on you and you can't give up on me."
I shake my head and go to say something else about him forgetting me but it all disappears the moment his lips touch mine. Wally's lips are soft and gentle and so unlike the passion filled ones we shared earlier. This kiss has less urgency than the others. Instead of passion it's full of love. I can feel how much Wally loves me in this kiss.
When Wally pulls away from the kiss he looks me in my eyes and I can see the love they hold. The love they hold for me.
"Kimberly Grace Miller, I love you. No one else. I don't care if you are gone for fifty years. I will be waiting for you when you get back," Wally says with a gentle and loving voice.
Tears start falling down my face and I shake my head. "I don't want you wasting your life. What if I am gone for fifty years? Wally there are so many things we don't know about. If you meet a girl in a few months and you miss your chance waiting for me but then I don't ever come back-"
Wally cuts me off with another kiss. This one is short and sweet. "Are you finished freaking out yet?" I shake my head and he gives me another short and sweet kiss. "How about now?"
I smirk and shake my head. "I think I'm just about there," I tease.
Wally chuckles before giving me a third kiss. "Better?" he asks. I nod my head and Wally shakes his head. "You are over thinking everything. You only need to worry about getting back to me. You worry about that and I'll worry about being here when you come home. Okay?"
I look up at him and the expression on his face, it's something I can't describe. There so much love yet fear. Fear of the future and what it holds for us. We are uncertain. But aren't most couples? The only thing that's certain right now is our love for each other.
I pull Wally in and stop centimeters from his lips. "Okay," I tell him.
Wally closes the distance and this kiss is like the first one we shared tonight. He's aggressive but not overly. I respond in kind and wrap my arms around his neck, pulling him closer. We start to battle for dominance when a bright blue light appears.
We unlock our lips to stare at the swirling blue light at the foot of the bed. Wally grabs my hand and we watch as it starts growing, larger and larger. When it reaches seven feet in diameter the bright blue swirling starts to clear and become see through. I watch as a battle scene becomes clearer. Through the portal we see hundreds of people fighting three lone figures. The three figures are tearing through the hundreds of people fighting them.
Some of the people battling them are garbed in armor and wielding swords and shields. Others are using staffs and casting spells with the ancient language I've just discovered in the Book of Amethyst. Each time one falls another appears to take their place.
I stand and murmur quietly, "Garb me for battle."
Purple smoke swirls around me and when it dissipates I'm dressed in my Magik uniform. Wally crawls to my side of the bed to climb off. When he stands he pulls me into his arms. We watch as the battle rages on for several minutes. I make no move to go through and Wally isn't rushing me.
Topaz told me to wait for the sword and shield so that's what I'm doing. Wally and I stand, our arms wound around each other for fifteen minutes before a worn Topaz appears before the portal. We've yet to hear a sound but now the loud screams of the fallen sound through the room and ring through the mountain. The clashing of swords meet our ears and the shouting of spells.
The portal clears entirely just as the team bursts through the door. They stay silent but I can feel their presence. I turn around and see their faces. They're on edge, ready for battle. When they realize that it's the portal they start relaxing a bit. Conner wraps his arms around Megan. Zatanna and Artemis link arms. Kaldur places a comforting hand on Raquel's shoulder.
The past month we've spent together as a team has brought us closer. Raquel has proven herself even further since the Savage's attack on the League last month. We all knew this day was coming but none of us were particularly looking forward to it.
I turn back to the portal where the unnerving battle sounds are coming from. Wally's arms have tightened around me. I know he doesn't want me to go, especially by the look of things.
Topaz disappears for a few moments before reappearing with the sword and shield he showed me in my dream earlier. He looks behind him and calls out to someone. I can't hear him because he's calling out towards the battle. A group of men and women swarm him and take a defensive stance.
Topaz turns back to the portal and tosses the sword and shield through. "Hurry, Kim. Arm yourself and come through. Our number one priority right now is to get you out of here safely."
I turn to Wally and he's looking at me with uncertainty. He steps forward and I go to follow him but he stops me. Wally stops a few feet from the portal and Topaz holds up a hand.
"You are not allowed to pass," Topaz tells him.
Wally nods. "I understand. But I need you to understand something. You take care of Kim. You ensure her safety for longer than to just get her out of there. You keep her safe or I will find a to you and I will not regret what happens."
I reach forward and place a hand on Wally's shoulder. Wally doesn't look at me but keeps his eyes trained through the portal.
Topaz gives Wally a nod. "You must be the boyfriend Kim spoke to me of. She is truly lucky to have you. You have my word as King of Gemworld, Kim will be safe here. If it takes my last breath, she will be returned to Earth."
Wally gives a nod to him. "I'm going to hold you to that."
Wally turns to me and pulls me in for a tight hug and a last passionate kiss. Artemis steps forward and hands me by backpack. I pull in her for a hug and when we part I see a tear falling down her cheek.
"I'll be okay. You take care, okay?" I tell her. I turn to the team. "All of you take care. I'll be back as soon as I can." I turn to Wally last. "Take care of yourself."
Wally pulls me into a hug and kisses me again. We are reluctant to pull apart but Topaz interrupts us.
"I'm sorry, Kim, but you must hurry. The Child and his allies are gaining the advantage," Topaz calls through the portal.
I pull away from Wally and grab the sword and shield on the ground before the portal. I stop in front of it before turning around one last time and giving Wally a large smile. He returns it instantly.
"Go," he instructs. "I'll be waiting for you when you get back."
"I love you," I tell him.
"I love you, too," he responds. "I am yours," he adds.
"And I am yours," I tell him.
Before I can change my mind and run into Wally's arms I turn around and face the portal. With my backpack strapped to my back, the sword grasped firmly in one hand, and the shield in the other I take a deep breath. Tears streaming down my face as I step forward through the portal. I leave my family, friends, and life behind to enter a strange world that needs my help. I am uncertain at what this world holds for me. I hold onto one thought as I take my first breath in Gemworld. I don't regret unbuttoning those pants.
A/N: So, I hope you enjoyed it. I had this finished a couple days ago but my stepdad was admitted to the hospital. He's out now though and doing better. He still has some health problems but things are going good. I hope to have the first chapter of the next installment up soon. I'll also try to get the next chapter of Red Canary up soon. Red Canary is a side project so my main focus is going to be Kim's story. My next story in the Magik Chronicles will be called Magik in a Timeskip. I'll see you guys soon! It's been a wonderful journey and I can't wait to see what the next installment brings us!
Signing off for now,
