Must Be Magic
Bobbywas pacing as he waited for the train to arrive. He wasn't nervous, exactly, but standing still definitely wasn't an option. The pacing was keeping him calm.
He had serious plans for his reunion with Kitty. And the last thing Bobby wanted was to mess them up.
Mr. and Mrs. Pryde watched from a few feet away. Bobby genuinely liked Kitty's parents. They were the complete opposite of his own. Much like James's parents, the Prydes always made him feel welcome in their home. And they tried so hard to understand the world their daughter now inhabited; it was endearing, to say the least.
He had planned the whole thing out with them. Bobby wanted the occasion to be memorable, naturally, and having everyone she loved be present was a part of that. The blond boy knew she would be surprised to see them there. He smiled to himself.
Students he recognized from Hogwarts began to appear on the platform. Bobby felt his heart begin to race. Any second now she'd be here...
Clarice's vivid hair was visible first. Kitty followed soon after, pushing a cart with her trunk and Lockheed's carrier. Bobby watched her face light up as her amber gaze met his own.
"Bobby!" she cried. Kitty abandoned her luggage and ran into his arms. She squeezed him tightly. "I missed you."
"I missed you, too, Kit," Bobby murmured.
She pulled away a bit, beaming up at him. "Come here," Kitty demanded as she pulled his face down to hers so she could kiss him.
He saw her light up again as he caught sight of her parents. She went to hug her mother first, followed by her father. "I didn't know you were coming," Kitty said.
"Well, where else would we be?" Mrs. Pryde asked, reaching over to squeeze her daughter's shoulder.
Clarice came back to their little group, James in tow. "We didn't miss it, did we?" James wanted to know.
Kitty gave him a puzzled look. "Miss what? What's he talking about, Bobby?"
The blond boy rolled his eyes in his friend's direction. "Thanks a lot, James. Guess the cat's out of the bag now."
Everyone stepped a little closer. Kitty glanced around at them all, clearly still trying to put the pieces together. Bobby reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box.
Immediately, the brunette clapped a hand to her mouth. "Oh, Bobby..."
"Now, before you say anything else, it's not what you think. It's a promise ring, Kit, not an engagement ring," Bobby explained.
She exhaled slowly. "A promise ring," Kitty repeated. "What's the promise?"
Bobby cracked the box open to show her. It as a simple ring in goblin made silver with two interlocking hearts. "I know we aren't ready to be married yet, or even engaged, but you're the only woman I've ever loved or ever will love. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, once we're ready. So will you, one day, agree to marry me?"
Kitty's face was split in two by the biggest smile he had ever seen on her. "Yes, Bobby, I will one day agree to marry you," she answered.
He took the ring out of the box and slid it onto Kitty's finger. She admired it for a moment before turning to Clarice and beginning to gush. "I can't believe you didn't tell me," Kitty said.
Clarice offered a grin. "It was a surprise."
"The one time you've ever kept a secret," Kitty muttered. But she bumped Clarice playfully with her hip and the other girl retaliated in the same fashion.
He watched her for another few minutes as she showed off her new piece of jewelry to her parents. They both gave her tight, congratulatory hugs. Mr. Pryde offered Bobby a handshake before pulling him into a hug as well.
Kitty was still beaming as she made her way back to him. She stood on her tiptoes to kiss him again, cradling his face in her hands. "I'm so happy right now, Bobby. Honestly," she told him as they parted.
"Me, too," he agreed. He smiled down at her, taking her hand in his. "Let's go home."
