D is for Dadda
...
"Mayday. Mayday? Mayday!" Peter laughed at his ignorant daughter, waddling around the living room on toddler feet. Her pudgy baby feet clapped against the laminated wood as she staggered from sofa to sofa. Gwen giggled from the sofa, her legs folded up beneath her rear, looking from her book pages to her daughter with amusement.
Peter crouched and held out his arms towards his daughter, only for her to suck her thumb and waddle the other way. Gwen sucked her lip to stifle her laugh.
"You just got blanked." Gwen licked her finger and thumb, turning the page. Peter slapped his hands to his knees and nodded.
"Seems that way."
"Ah, you know she's going to end up being a right Daddy's girl." Gwen shut her book, bending down and picking her exploring daughter up with a groan. She set Mayday on her knee and bounced the gurgling toddler. Mayday's round cheeks and bulging hazel eyes scanned the room, ruffled and messy chestnut locks on her scalp. Gwen kissed Mayday's soft cheek.
"Mmm, look at Mommy and Mayday." Peter chuckled, crouching before his family. Gwen smiled at him, coddling her adorable baby. Peter grinned and leaned over, pecking Gwen's lips softly. "Mmm, Momma Gwen."
"Momma? Huh, I like that. How about it, huh? Like that Mayday?" Gwen bounced the gurgling toddler. "Momma? Can you say Momma?" Gwen pecked Mayday's soft and delicate nose. The infant giggled at the brushing lips.
"Momma!"
Gwen and Peter's eyes met, bold and wide in shock. They both stuttered at each other, looking at Mayday. "D-Did she just-"
"I think so." Peter laughed. He looked at Mayday. "Did you say Momma?"
"Momma." Mayday repeated, biting her gums down on her tiny thumb. Gwen laughed gleefully, hugging her baby and kissing the giggling infant's cheek. Peter laughed, playing with the tiny toes of his daughter.
"Mayday, say Dadda. Can you say Dadda?" Peter asked. Mayday looked at him with huge round brown eyes.
"Momma."
Gwen snorted and bit her lip, hiding her grin behind Mayday's tussled hair. Peter huffed, scratching his own tussled brown locks. Gwen smiled at him and shuffled over on the sofa, sitting Mayday in her lap. Gwen patted the spot beside her. Peter got up and sat beside her, rubbing his chin.
"Daddy's girl, huh?" He smiled sadly. Gwen rolled her eyes with a loud huff.
"Oh Peter, come on, she's seven months old!" Gwen laughed gently, looking over Mayday's head at the tiny hands coiled around her thumbs. "She's only just said Momma."
"Momma!"
"Yes baby, Momma." Gwen kissed her wavy head of hair. Peter grinned and nodded, stroking Gwen's knee. Gwen looked at him and tilted her head, waterfalls of trickling gold running down from her scalp to brush Mayday's head. The baby giggled at the feeling, gently reaching up and tugging on the curled locks.
"You okay?" Gwen asked, watching Peter rest his chin on his open palm. He simply watched the small pair that was his family.
"I'm perfect." He smiled over his fingertips. "My little family." he reached over, stroking Mayday's cheek. She turned and bit his finger between her gums. Gwen and Peter shared a giggle at the salivating baby with teething issues.
"When we were in school - I-I'm gonna admit something to you - when we were in school, I used to fantasize about this...h-having this...with you." Peter mumbled, gesticulating to Gwen and Mayday. Gwen's eyes softened and her smile crept up.
"Yeah?"
"Oh yeah. What it'd be like to have a family with you. Bit weird, I know." Peter shrugged.
"Not weird. Heard weirder." Gwen beamed at him. Peter chuckled to himself and looked back at Mayday, still gripping his finger tight.
"Baby, can I have my finger back, can I? Can I?" Peter inched closer, running his nose along Mayday's. Mayday's wide brown eyes locked onto his, still teething on his finger. Gwen giggled at them both, gently bouncing Mayday on her knee. The beautiful baby looked up at her Mother, letting go of Peter's finger.
"See? Now Dadda has his finger back." Gwen looked into the bountiful eyes of her adorable baby girl.
"Dadda."
Both Gwen and Peter gasped, smiling widely at one another. Peter threw his fists in the air.
"Yes! Yeah, baby, oh baby!" Peter scooped Mayday up, the little bundle of joy giggling uncontrollably as he bounced her in the air. "Oh baby, baby, baby. Oh baby, baby, baby!" he laughed.
"She loves that." Gwen sat back on the sofa, coiling her legs beneath her butt. She laughed as Peter bounced Mayday in the air, the infant giggling uncontrollably. Peter cackled and coddled Mayday to his chest, crouching next to Gwen. She lay on the sofa and smiled at him lovingly, with Mayday gargling between.
"Look. Look at Momma." Peter gently held Mayday's hand and delicately made her poke Gwen's nose. Mayday giggled at Gwen's scrunched eyes and pout. "Go boop. Go boop on Momma, huh?" Peter laughed at how amusing Mayday found it. Gwen burst into laughter too at her daughter's cackles, feeling her dinky fingertip prodding her nose.
"If Dadda doesn't stop soon, he isn't going to be "booping" Momma for a long time, right bubba?" Gwen laughed to Mayday. The innocent and unawares of the innuendo baby simply poked Gwen's nose again. "C-Can we stop booping?" Gwen laughed, sitting up. Mayday squealed as Peter sat her on Gwen's lap. Gwen hugged the baby to her chest, gently rubbing her back and soothing the toddler. Peter lay against the edge of the sofa, resting his head against Gwen's side. Gwen smiled and leaned down, capturing his lips.
"All tuckered out?" She whispered. Peter smiled and nodded, kissing her lips softly. Mayday made a small fuss at being ignored. "Are you doing a patrol tonight?" Gwen sighed. Peter looked up at Gwen's emerald eyes, then to the hazel eyes of his beloved baby. Peter grinned and shook his head.
"Nah. Not tonight. Manhattan can cope." He groaned as he knelt before Gwen's lap, cradling Mayday's cheeks in his hands. "This little bundle of joy is my first priority."
"Wow. Hear that Mayday? Dadda's giving up a night of crime fighting for you!"
"Dadda!" Mayday giggled. Gwen smiled and rested her chin softly on Mayday's tufts of soft hair.
"I love you." Peter smiled brightly to Gwen. She beamed back, blinking hard.
"Yeah. Love you too."
"Momma! Dadda!" Mayday interrupted, making them both burst into laughter.
