Hello my loves. So after a year, I am finally back with an update and I am honestly so sorry about the extremely long wait. I just lost my inspiration for this story, but it came back thank god.

After all, when in doubt always include some sort of time jump and the writing will begin flowing again.

Now, I know that this chapter isn't exactly the longest, but I don't think it's very bad either.

Please enjoy and thank you to those readers that will read this.

It was one month later when Caroline finally realized that she was indeed carrying her ex-husband's child. However, in the month since their heart-to-heart, they were able to come to an understanding.

It seemed that Klaus was finally beginning to show her a side of himself that she hasn't see in years.

Sure, there were times when he treated as though she was the most important thing in the world, but now he was showing her the respect she so rightfully deserved. The respect he hadn't given her when they were married or really when they started up their physical relationship.

Caroline sat in her bedroom and looked down at the test that she held. She would be a mother in a few months and Klaus would be a father…

Though Caroline felt as joyous as ever, there was still a niggling doubt in the back of her mind… What if as soon as their child was born, their relationship would go downhill? What if Klaus realized that he didn't want a child? The blonde was almost certain that he wouldn't abandon her or their unborn child to the terrible vices of the cold world, but she wasn't sure if he would remain by their side…

Would he help her raise their child or would he simply support them financially and with little to no feeling?

With a sigh, she lay back on the bed- her very comfortable bed, she thought.

In the month since their admittance to give each other another chance, she had moved into his home. The reason why was because she wanted to see him everyday and he her. Also, it had to do with the fact that Caroline refused to pay another dime to the landlord. It was bad enough that he former place of living chilled her to the bone, but on top of that there were cockroaches at every corner she had turned.

However, they weren't together as boyfriend and girlfriend. They were more like roommates that shared a space. Both of them seemed to be fine with that and ever since that night they binge watched the first season of Fuller House, they have remained only friends. They shared no physical relationship even though they both wished to take up together once again.

Perhaps it was the right thing, Caroline thought… After all, now their relationship wasn't all about the physical, but more along the mental and spiritual.

The blonde was brought out of her reverie when she heard a knock on her bedroom door. It seemed that Klaus was finished with his work for the day.

She bid him entrance and he came in with a smile on his full, luscious lips.

"Time to get up, lazy pants. I know it's your day off from work, but you can't seriously spend the whole day in bed."

"I can and I will." She answered, an answering smile on her lips.

Klaus chuckled and moved further into her bedroom. He sat down beside her and his eyes landed on the stick that she held.

"Wh-what's that?" He asked, his voice cracking.

"Oh um…" she started, but wasn't sure what else to say.

Klaus took the stick from her hand gently and looked at the word that it read.

Pregnant.

"You're pregnant?" He said as his stormy blue-gray eyes widened.

"Yes," she answered. "I was going to tell you, but I wasn't sure how."

"How long have you known for?" He questioned, the curiosity evident in his voice.

"Not long at all… I had my suspicions, but I had to make sure which is why I went out and bought a pregnancy test. We're going to be parents in a a couple of months time." She announced and he inhaled a sharp breath.

"Bloody hell," he said aloud and Caroline cringed. Surely this would be the moment when he turned back into the man she had left years ago. The man who wasn't really a man at all, but a bully and a jerk of the worst kind.

Instead, Caroline was taken aback when he enveloped her in a tight hug.

"Klaus?" She said, her voice shocked as she kept her hands at her sides, not sure how to react. Should she embrace him? Should she remain still?"

"You have made me the happiest man on earth, Caroline Forbes Mikaelson." He said, using the name she had taken when they married.

However, legally she was now only Caroline Forbes… After all, after their messy separation and later divorce, she made it her life's mission to become a Forbes again.

"I have?" She asked, deciding not to correct him.

"Of course! We're going to have a child, love. How amazing is that!?"

"Pretty amazing," she replied as a smile played on her lips. Then, she put her arms around him and hugged him back.

He caressed her cheeks and was just about to place his lips on her own when she turned away from him.

His lips caught her cheek instead and he frowned.

"What's wrong?" He asked as a crease appeared between his eyebrows.

With a sigh, Caroline moved away from him and stood up off of the bed.

The crease between his eyebrows became more prominent because he wasn't sure why she was pulling away from him. He thought that they were actually beginning to get somewhere.

"Tell me what's wrong, Caroline. I can't help if you won't speak to me…"

"Are we doing the right thing?" She asked as she placed her palm against her still flat belly.

"Of course we are. This baby will only bring us more happiness and fulfillment." He answered, trying to reassure her.

"And if he or she doesn't? We may be okay right now, but what about after the baby comes. I've heard of so many couples that have had children and then separated because the child did not allow them to live the life they wanted."

"Love, first of all I would never leave the baby. Second of all, we will make this work. I am certain of it."

"We failed once, Klaus. Do you think we're strong enough to make it work the second time around."

"Yes of course. I was at an awful place then, but I've changed, Caroline. Truly I have."

With a slight nod, Caroline reached for his hand and gave it a light squeeze and he did it in return.

"I believe you." Caroline finally said aloud, hoping that it wasn't a mistake. After all, all that had occurred between them all those years ago should have been a lesson for her.

"You're still unsure, love. I can tell." Klaus said with a sigh.

"Of course I am unsure." She whispered. "We didn't exactly have the greatest relationship all those years ago. And I know that you have changed and I believe you, but I still need time. I need more time to actually comprehend what is going on."

"Take as much time as you need, Caroline. I think we are friends now and I hope that with time, we will become more. However, please do not think that I am pushing you into a romantic relationship with myself. I'm really not, even though I wouldn't be opposed to it if I am being completely honest."

With a sigh, Caroline nodded and the two slowly moved onto lighter subjects.

Three weeks later, Caroline lay on the bed feeling exhausted. The first month hadn't been so bad, but now it seemed that the nausea was making itself known.

Though Klaus made sure to get her all that she needed, she still didn't feel all that great.

At the moment, her stomach seemed to settle and she exhaled a sigh of relief. Finally, some peace…

She pushed the blanket off of her and stood up slowly. Putting on her slippers, she made her way out of the bedroom and down to the kitchen.

Upon entering, she spotted a blonde head and immediately recognized her former sister-in-law.

Though the women had a good relationship when Caroline was still married to Klaus, she wasn't sure how Rebekah would react to seeing her.

Slightly unsettled, she tiptoed into the kitchen and opened her mouth to say hello when Rebekah sharply turned.

Caroline expected to see a look of disgust on the other woman's face, but instead she saw a look of delight overcome Rebekah's features.

Her doe blue eyes sparkled and she had a large smile on her lips.

"Caroline!" The younger woman cried out as she stood up and made her way over to her.

"Rebekah, how are you?" Caroline asked as Rebekah embraced her in a hug.

"Very well, actually." Rebekah answered and Caroline spotted the large engagement ring on her finger immediately.

"You're engaged?" Caroline said as her jaw dropped slightly.

From what she remembered, Rebekah never really enjoyed dating in the first place. However, it seemed there was actually somebody that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.

"I am." Rebekah beamed as the sunlight from the open windows reflected over the diamond in the center.

"Congratulations!" She cried out, genuinely happy for the other woman. After all, everybody deserved love.

"My wedding is coming up in a few months and I genuinely cannot wait to become Mrs. Gerard!"

"Gerard?" Caroline said aloud, trying to remember why that last name sounded so familiar…

"Yeah. You know him actually. Marcel."

"Marcel? Klaus's best friend from college?" Caroline asked as the image of Marcel Gerard filled her mind. He was a good looking man with a kind smile and considerate eyes from what she remembered.

"The same, yeah." Rebekah replied, a smile playing on her lips.

"Well finally." Caroline said without thinking."

"What do you mean?" Rebekah asked, the confusion evident in her voice.

"Only that Marcel always had a thing for you. Please tell me that you remember how he always watched you. At the barbecues, parties, anywhere he saw you."

"Really?" Rebekah said. "I never noticed." She confessed.

"Well he's one of the good ones if I remember him correctly. So you better hold on tight to that one."

"With both hands." Rebekah responded, winking at the other blonde. "But enough about me. How about you? Nik told me that you two have been able to reconnect and are now living as roommates." Rebekah said, winking at Caroline knowingly.

"Oh," Caroline said as a blush appeared on her cheeks. "We're just friends, Rebekah. Really we're just starting out this very new friendship."

"So friends with benefits then?"

"Enough questions, little sister. You may have a button nose now, but surely it will get bigger if you continue being so nosy." Klaus said as he entered the kitchen and made his way over to his younger sister.

He gave her a hug and she returned his hug with a little punch on the back. Then, he looked over at Caroline and bestowed a sexy smile upon her. One that turned up the side of his very delicious lips.

Caroline returned the smile, but it was quickly forgotten when she felt the bile rising in her throat. Immediately, she ran out of the kitchen and into the nearest bathroom before she shut the door.

Back in the kitchen, Rebekah looked on with wide and worried eyes.

"Is Caroline okay?" She asked, her voice small.

"She will be, Bekah. These next few weeks aren't going to be the greatest for her."

"Why is that? Does she have food poisoning or something?"

"No… Well actually, Caroline is pregnant. With my child." Klaus confessed as he bit down on his bottom lip.

"What!?" Rebekah cried out as her eyes widened and she looked at him with shock.

There you have it, my darlings! So, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter and if you didn't then I am truly sorry. Also, I would like to wish my American friends a very happy fourth of July!
