Chapter 203/300
Bud of Eternity
Sword Valley Arc (17/17)

"Dunban smiled as he named this. Beautifully lush."

Melia did not speak a word after Mumkhar's death, even after the group secured the Control Tower. While most members discussed how to find a path to the alternate entrance of Galahad Fortress, Dunban walked up to her. "Melia, you've been unusually quiet."

"I'm usually the one who is the most quietest person in this group."

"Well, aside from that, I noticed you were spacing out when we were fighting right here in this area."

Melia broke eye contact. "You are as astute as ever. It's...about Mumkhar."

"I see."

"When he murdered my father, most of my thoughts were consumed by rage. But when that madman got stabbed and fell into the ocean, I suddenly felt…pity for him. I started to wonder why I felt like that until you approached me."

"And?"

"Perhaps it's because...after I learned he was jealous of you and the Monado, he ended up sacrificing his body and mind. His future, which is now the past, led to his death. While I do not know anything more about him, I learned that nothing good comes from revenge, a lesson that Shulk taught us. In some twisted way, I give his death my thanks."

"That's a well-thought-out analysis in that short amount of time. It's my turn to tell you that you are astute." The two looked to see the group beginning to scout around the Control Tower.

"Maybe next time, you will tell me more about Mumkhar."

"Of course. But for now, keep your spirits high. I found something around here that might cheer you up." He gave her a shiny, sturdy bud before smiling fondly. "I call it the Bud of Eternity."

"Bud of Eternity?" Melia smiled back. "It's rather nice. I appreciate the gift, Dunban."

"Hey, everyone!" Sharla said at the edge. "Right behind me is a staircase that will take us down and into Galahad Fortress." Everyone else headed to her location.

"Good work, Sharla," Shulk said, leading the team. "To Galahad Fortress, everyone!"
