Author's note: Um. Hi. So. Um. Since it's been so long, I totally forgot where I was going with the rage thing, so here's a snapshotty thing of something which might occur. I'm sure the rage thing will come back into play, once I've figured out where I was.
Please note, I have been given permission to angst. Tempered though it may be by the wrath of Kater, I know I can appease her by the use of -Kry writes smut-. So angst ahoy.
Rumble. Purr. Bliss.
Beast Boy was the first to notice since he had the unique perspective of being right in the middle when it occurred.
As afternoon waned, if there were no alerts, it was common to find Starfire and Beast Boy curled up together and basking in the last patches of sunlight. Used to seeing them curled up together, Beast Boy in cat puddle form, no one battered an eyelid when Starfire started equipping her patch of sunlight with cushions and pillows while she napped.
Even Robin, with his new and improved streaks of Tamaranian jealous and rage, didn't bat an eyelid as Beast Boy curled up against Starfire's belly for their afternoon sun-basking session. He didn't twitch when Beast Boy rumbled a purr while Starfire scratched his ears. He didn't bat an eyelid when Beast Boy unknowingly presented his belly for rubs.
It had been tradition since the time the Titans began. Even a new relationship between their leader and their resident bombshell couldn't stop Beast Boy from getting his cuddle-pat naptime. He was a cat, after all. Impertinent creatures, the mentality often leaked over to him. While he was capable of rational thought, most of this activity in his brain was taken up by "Sun, pats, pretty lady, sun, sleep".
Starfire lounged on her pillows. Limbs stretched long, belly to the sun, her finger idly running through Beast Boy's fur. Eyes closed and feeling completely relaxed, both in danger of falling asleep.
The door swished open and Beast Boy opened his eyes long enough to acknowledge Raven entering the room. A moment later, he heard the cupboard open. Must be tea time. He curled and buried his nose in his paws and Starfire's strokes found his ears.
Perfect bliss.
So comfy.
Stretch and yawn and offer a tiny mew so she'd scratch a little harder.
Who could resist the kitty?
That's it. That's the spot. Oh yeah.
Rumble. Purr. Bliss.
"You look comfortable."
Wait. No. Star. Come back.
Starfire shifted, half-turning toward the interloper. "Greetings. Do you wish to join me?"
Beast Boy flattened his ears against his head. No. Go away. This was his time. Don't interrupt.
"Yeah, why not?"
Beast Boy opened his eyes a slit as the pillows bounced and rearranged. Robin stretched out beside them, his head level with Starfire's knees. He meowed his protest and Robin cast him a 'get over it' look.
With a wriggle, Robin asked, "So, we just doze?"
"That is the plan," Starfire said.
"In the sun."
"Yes." Her hand moved away from Beast Boy's ears to settle on Robin stomach. "Please stop moving."
Beast Boy cast daggers at the hand, willing it back to scratch his ears.
Robin placed his hand over hers and wove their fingers together. "Am I disturbing the zen?"
Yes. Beast Boy extended his paw and tapped on Starfire's elbow, trying to coax her to pet him again.
"No," Starfire replied and lifted her other hand to Beast Boy's ears. Not exactly what he was after, but since she scratched him again it didn't matter.
Beast Boy closed his eyes.
Rumble. Purr. A bit less bliss but he was getting scratched and that was okay.
A rustle, a blare of music and Starfire wriggled further away.
"What is that?"
Beast Boy opened his eyes to see Robin had twisted around to offer Starfire an earbud. Fine. Listen to music. Do the cliché snuggle thing. Nothing was going to get in the way of his sun-basking catnap.
Then the murmuring started. He consoled himself that they were trying to be considerate of his sleep, since they talked in Tamaranain. He didn't know the language, so he wasn't drawn into the conversation.
The tones though. Low hushed whispers, rumbles of laughter. Starfire's body turned toward Robin and left Beast Boy curled up against her back. Fine. Dandy.
Because he couldn't understand them, he made up the conversation in his head.
"Oh, Starfire, check out my manly muscles."
"Oh, Robin, they're just so big and strong, but nothing compared to Beast Boy. You're half the man he is."
"I am no longer just a man, Starfire, I am like you, descended from the great felines of the… whatchamecallit plains."
"But can you purr? No. Only Beast Boy purrs. Hark, listen to that rumble, is it not the cutest thing in this world?"
"Agree. I, the manly man leader of the Titans, believe we should pat him."
"I concur."
Yeah. Totally something like that.
Pleased with himself, he wriggled and flexed his paws, kneading Starfire in the hope she'd continue to pat him.
She didn't. Blast.
At least he was still in the sun. Nope. No he wasn't. The sun had moved. And Starfire hadn't moved them with the sun as she usually did. Double blast.
Beast Boy stood and stretched, then stalked up the pillows to sit by Starfire's shoulders. He huffed, deliberately dragging his tail along her arm to make sure she was aware he was annoyed with her. Pausing to rearrange his fur, he watched the pair.
He totally should put his tail under her nose. That'd serve her right.
He wasn't aware Robin had been capable of flirting like that. Little touches. Heads together. Knuckles strokes against her leg. Starfire was all up in that, encouraging and flirting right back. Being Tamaranian had turned out to be a good thing for Robin. And for Starfire. It'd been agonising to watch them dance around each other, but now they were together, it was just as agonising to watch. At least they hadn't started kissing. That would be completely gross. And ruin his nap.
Beast Boy curled up in a ball and put his tail over his nose.
Then the nuzzling started.
Beast Boy could tell they were nuzzling even with his eyes closed. Cats had exceptional hearing and there were sniffy noises and Starfire giggles. Did they forget he was lying right here? Beside them? In his patch of sunlight!
God, were they cooing at each other now?
He flicked his tail in annoyance and disgust and raised his head to stare at the pair. Perhaps they'd get the message they were disturbing him.
Robin's face nuzzled into Starfire's neck, his hand on her hip in the bare patch between her skirt and her top. Beast Boy shot daggers at the hand as it stroked toward her back and pulled Starfire further away from Beast Boy. There was that l'ani word again, what did that even mean? Starfire's hands were buried in his hair and her smile…
Ew. Ick.
She enjoyed this. Robin was right where she'd always wanted him to be.
In Beast Boy's patch of sunlight!
It was soiled. Tainted. The end of the world was coming.
And… great. Dandy. Fine.
Which one of them purred? 'Cause it certainly wasn't Beast Boy.
Public affection! PUBLIC. Beast Boy had half a mind to call Batman.
"Excuse me, Batman, Robin and Starfire are totes making out the Tamaranian way in the middle of my patch of sunlight. Yes, sir, there's nuzzling involved."
Yup. That would do it.
Sitting up, tail swishing angrily, Beast Boy prepared to swat the pair. It'd be fine if they'd just napped like they were supposed to. But nooooo, they had to get all frisky.
Claws extended, he lifted back his paw and…
Black energy trapped him and lifted him away. Grey hands reached for him and gentle fingers found his ears. "Leave them alone," she murmured as she lay on the couch and settled him on her stomach. Returning her attention to her book which floated above her, Raven used both hands to pet the green kitty.
Okay. So this was… much better than snoozing in a patch of sunlight.
Pacified, Beast Boy settled down for a nap.
Rumble. Purr. Bliss.
Kry's other note: What do you mean there's no angst? Beast Boy was totally angsting there!
I'm getting back into it. Not as fast as before because reasons. But there will be another plot surfacing and I finally know how I'm going to end this. So we'll get to that.
TTFN.
