Author's Note: Short little poem fic. It came off the top of my head, and since I've been a lazy ass and haven't updated any of my main fics in a while, I thought this would be a nice way to tide you all over.
For people who write poems, mine will follow a pretty erratic pattern. It won't just go by a standard AA-BB, but other styles as well. I plan to add a tiny fic in addition to this. And when I mean tiny, I mean TINY.
Summary: A darker look into how Gohan felt after the Cell Games.
Control
There once was a young child,
Whose life was anything but mild.
His potential was amazing,
Simply dazing,
Yet he never had control.
Captured at four by his uncle,
Forced to watch his father crumble,
Gohan was forever scared,
His childhood forever marred.
At five and a half it happened again,
His friends taken from him by other men.
He traveled up into space,
Where he met face to face,
With a monstrous abomination,
Filled with determination,
To end all things he held dear.
Not for the first time he gave in,
To the anger he possessed.
He unleashed the monster within,
And created quite a mess.
It was then that he feared,
That as he continued to grow,
His power would grow with him,
He could never let it go.
By six he had killed,
Four met with death's kiss.
It barely even fazed him,
Just add it to the list.
Three years passed by,
And Gohan couldn't shake,
That the worst was yet to come,
He'd be left struck dumb,
As more people died in his wake.
At nine his father fell just when,
A deadly virus hit him then,
As monsters attacked Gohan's friends,
He couldn't let that happen again!
So he trained,
And he fought,
He punched and he kicked,
Until finally one day,
Far far away,
He did it.
Super Saiyan was what he secured,
His father right there by his side.
At then he felt quite assured,
That no more people would have to die.
He was wrong.
Cell was the latest menace,
The strongest android of all.
He wanted to destroy the Earth,
With a giant energy ball.
Goku was the first to fight,
Well, the first with noticeable skill.
Still he wound up losing,
Leaving his son to take the kill.
However Gohan didn't want to kill,
Trying to look for a peaceful route.
He didn't want to lose control,
Of his power everyone knew about.
It didn't take long for him to snap,
As Cell attacked his family.
Finally letting go of his fears,
He reached his core,
Opened the door,
And his power flowed out once more.
He Ascended.
A Super Saiyan Two he now was,
His power beyond compare.
Cell still tried to fight him,
He definitely shouldn't have dared.
Gohan teased,
And he taunted,
And heckled Cell too.
Yet he remained unaware,
Of what Cell planned to do.
The android inflated,
Much like a balloon,
Planning to blow up the Earth,
Making the young Saiyan look very much,
Like a buffoon.
Goku came to Gohan's aid,
Sacrificing his life for the world.
His father's death on his hands,
The Ascended Saiyan nearly hurled.
And somehow Cell returned,
More conceited than ever.
Making Goku's noble detriment,
A very pointless endeavor.
And that was when,
For the final time,
Gohan let it all go.
Letting go of his anger,
Letting go of his emotions.
The young Saiyan destroyed the menace,
Fulfilling his fatal devotion.
The battle was won,
The world was saved,
And yet Gohan was empty.
Here he was,
A boy of eleven.
His childhood long gone,
His future uncertain.
And yet, he knew one thing.
He would never forgive himself,
And forever remain drear,
For if he had never lost control,
His father would still be here.
