Hey guys! So, this may come as a surprise but this is the final chapter. I wasn't planning on that, it just kind of happened. I hope it didn't end it too poorly for you, but I felt like things were going on for too long and this fanfiction needed to end.
I want to thank you guys so freaking much because I never expected this to get the feedback it did. So many people have been giving such amazing and supportive reviews, and even if you haven't reviewed, just following and favoriting was perfect too. You guys put up with my hectic updating schedule and when I got attacked at school, you guys were so supportive of me and just...ugh. I love you guys.
There will be a sequel, I think I mentioned this before. But before that, I have started a new story. A few chapters back we voted for the fanfiction I would be working on and the majority voted for Once a Hero, which you can find by going to my Fanfiction profile.
Hope to see you soon, Love ya!
Leo Valdez was starstruck. He was in awe of the man; loving his genius and inventions. Though the demigod was confident that his skills were on par with the mortal man (And there was plenty of proof as well) he couldn't help but stare at him with slacked jawed amazement whenever he got the chance.
Even though Leo desperately wanted to talk with him, he couldn't seem to find the courage. And it made no sense. After all, he should be used to face things that would take momentous amounts of bravery. Yet at the prospect of talking to the man who was his idol, he was left week in the knees.
So now he was left hiding in one of the many rooms of The Argo II, fiddling around with a few spare bits he had just lying around. Tongue poking out of the corner of his mouth, he was focusing intently on the objects in his hands. His eyes were narrowed with his intense stare. He was so focused on the task at hand that he didn't even notice that someone had slipped into the room and begun peaking around at some of the half-finished projects he had lying around.
"What exactly is this supposed to do?" Came the purposefully loud question. Startled at the sudden noise, Leo jumped and dropped the two pieces in his hands. The more fragile of the two items cracked into pieces as it made contact with the unforgiving table top.
"Aw," The sound escaped Leo's lips before he could stop himself. He looked down at his broken pieces before turning in irritation. He was fully prepared to start a full blown rant at whoever had decided to break his concentration. The words were poised on his tongue but died as soon as he caught sight of Tony freaking Stark handling one of his tossed projects.
The billionaire was rolling a golden, basketball sized orb carefully between his palms. Random bits of piping were sticking out everywhere -the purpose of which Leo had long since forgotten. "Uh, I think that was supposed to suck up smoke from nearby campfires." Leo offered as an answer, not entirely sure himself. "For, you know, if you're being hunted by someone or something and need to keep warm somehow, so you make a fire and-" He clamped his jaws shut, the curly haired teen realizing that he was rambling.
Tony didn't seem to have noticed, lips pursed and eyes inquisitive as he continued to examine the strange bit of machinery. "Huh," Was all he said for a second before putting it back on the shelf, among all the other dusty and discarded inventions.
The man wandered around the room, eyeing things as he went but otherwise keeping quiet. Leo watched him anxiously, questions dancing on his tongue but trapped behind closed lips. Unsure of what to do, the severely ADHD demigod picked up some more things, his hands fiddling with them as he followed Tony's path.
"That toolbelt of yours," Tony gestured to the magical item hanging from his hips. "How does it work?"
"Magic." Leo blurted out.
Tony bobbed his head in an 'okay' motion. "Right. Forgot that was...actually a thing." He ran his head over another strange contraption, jerking back the appendage when a knife was suddenly flung from the box and embedded itself in the wall above Leo's head. Instead of freaking out like Leo half expected, Tony pursed his lips and continued on, albeit a bit more warily.
"Uhm, not that I'm not enjoying having you in here," Leo began hesitantly; the project in his hands forgotten in the aftermath of having his idol examining his work. "But, why are you in here?"
Tony turned to face Leo, hands folded behind his back though his eyes still wandered around the room. "I've heard about you're knack for making interesting gadgets." He gestured to the room. "Your friends very proudly mentioned the fact that you happened to make this entire ship."
Leo flashed a proud and impish smile at that, his chest and heart swelling with warmth for his friends and pride at his accomplishments. "Yes I did." He said while nodding his head vigorously, black curls bouncing.
Tony smirked good naturedly at Leo's enthusiasm. "Well, naturally I was intrigued, and it brought me to wonder what you could build with practically unlimited materials."
Leo gaped at him, jaw open in amazement at what his astonished brain was working to figure out. Whoa, wait, calm down. He might not be saying what I think he's saying.
Tony began to meander through the room again, even though it wasn't very large and there was hardly anything more the man to see. "I was thinking that maybe you could come to the Tower at some point. Maybe show you a few things. And, if possible, teach you everything I know. Like an apprentice of sorts."
He's totally saying what I think he's saying. Leo stared at Tony with wide eyes, body frozen in shock at the offer that was being handed to him. He, Leo Valdez, could possibly become an apprentice to Tony Stark. Okay, chill Leo. Calm man. But his thoughts weren't doing anything to suppress his quickly growing excitement.
There was so many things that Leo wanted to say and do at that moment. Heck, he wanted to get on his knees and kiss Tony Stark's feet in gratitude. Probably would too, if not for the fact that it would be extremely weird or the both of them.
Leo cleared his throat and stood up as straight as the 5'6" teen could. "I would l-" The floor started rocking wildly. It was so sudden and such a change from the gentle tossing of the small waves against the Argo's hull that Tony and Leo tumbled to the ground, rolling along the floor until they both crashed in a heap against the far wall. Bits and pieces of tools and objects rolled with them, inventions falling from the shelves around the two men. Some shattered, leaving dangerous looking shrapnel to litter the ground.
"What the Hell?" Tony cursed as he pushed himself to his feet. He rubbed his head, the skin around his forehead was red from where he'd banged it against the floor. Leo was feeling similar pains, though he was mainly focusing on trying to regain his breath. His lips open and closed like a fish gasping for air until his body finally registered his plight. He inhaled a great gulp of air before rolling to his side, coughing.
The ship was still pitching wildly as Tony helped Leo up. They two of them carefully stepped over the broken shards and towards the door, hoping to get out before anything dangerous broke and possibly harmed them.
"What's going on?" Thor bellowed from down the hall. Clarrisse stood behind him, hand on the wall and a green tint to her skin.
"I don't know," Leo yelled. "Come on!" He hurried as fast he could towards the stairs that would take him to the deck, looking around in surprise. The sky was gray and clouds swirled menacingly overhead. Wind whipped furiously at the oceans menacing surface and waves lapped hungrily against The Argo's sides.
Everyone else was looking around, unsure of what was going on.
"The sky was clear a few moments ago!" Will gasped as he shimmied down the ships mast, looking around with confusion as his golden hair was whipped by the wind. He looked around in panic. "Where's Nico?" He yelled.
"He's gone to camp," Annabeth answered. She was walking towards them on sure feet. She looked confident enough but Leo knew her well enough to see that this strange weather was worrying her as well. Behind her, Percy was running after his girlfriend with Steve and Bruce coming up slowly but surely. Natasha was busy rubbing Clint's back as he emptied the contents of his stomach overboard.
"Any idea's what's going on?" Clarrisse asked, trying to look unbothered but failing somewhat miserably.
There was a sudden noise and Percy stumbled as a black heap fell on him. "Nico!" Will called out happily as he helped his boyfriend to his feet. "You okay?"
"No time to talk!" Nico gasped as he got to his feet. "We have to go to San Francisco! Mt. Othrys now!"
"We can't get there in time!" Leo yelled over the wind, confused as heck as to what was going on. "We have to!" Nico snapped to him. "Now! I'll shadow travel us!"
"The entire ship?" Percy asked from where he was still sprawled on the ground. "Wouldn't that, you know, kill you?"
"Not the ship, the crew. I can do that much." Nico snapped.
"No!" Will yelled, gripping his arm tightly. "I refuse. Look at what happened last time, you're not strong enough!"
Nico glared at him. "I am strong enough! I can do this! And we need to go now!"
Steve, who had been conversing with Natasha and Bruce, walked over. "Natasha, Clint, and Bruce are staying behind." He informed them. "They're not ready for this...shadow travel thing."
"Fine!" Nico snapped. "Now everyone grab hands!" He snatched Will and Leo's hand in what seemed to be almost a death grip. Complying, everyone held hands -the mortals sharing uneasy looks- and with a yelp, Leo felt the familiar cold sensation as they shadow traveled.

After the feeling had passed, -something that Leo would never be used to- he realized that there was something terribly, terribly wrong. Well, even more wrong then what they had been seeing back on the Argo.
Mortals were running through the streets of San Francisco, screaming wildly. It was dark, though everything would flash white like lightening was flashing a jagged dance through the sky in a thunderstorm.
But looking up, Leo noted that lightening was not the cause of the white flashes at all. The sky, a menacing gray color, would occasionally pulse with streaks of white light that was moving towards a very dark, very scary looking mountain. Oh, this is gonna be fun. Leo thought grimly.
"Okay," Leo said, lips turning downwards in a pout. "I'll admit this is weird, but what exactly are we fighting against?"
Nico was looking towards the mountain, eyes darker than usual. "It's Atlas-"
Percy interrupted, eyes flashing with anger. "What, is he out again? Is he forcing someone to hold up the sky?"
Nico held up a hand. "Whoa, Percy, chill. It's worse."
"Oh, because that makes it so much better." Annabeth said with a sigh, rubbing a hand over her face. "Seriously, what's going on Nico? And no interruptions this time guys."
"Thank you," Nico said with a sigh. "And it's worse. Because Atlas is still holding up the sky, but he wont be for much longer. Somehow Uranus got back together. And he's not going to be up there in that sky much longer."
