Sora anxiously splashed his tail in the water. He'd been tracking this ship for awhile now, just where was Riku...
Kairi surfaced next to him, "Sora, you think he's okay?"
Sora shrugged, "I dunno. Some pirates are good... Some, not so much."
To be honest he wondered why he and Kairi could be mermaids just fine here. Heck he wondered how it even WORKED in Port Royal. Perhaps it was the fact Riku liked being landbound a little more than his friends. Feelings and tendencies worked against magic-
"SORA!"
Sora was roughly shaken by Kairi, who pointed to a white blip walking the plank. The blip looked at them, and it was quite clear the blip was Riku. Sora sighed; he wondered why everything always went so terribly. They could be worse, but nothing was ever easy. He knew they were gonna throw Riku off board. Not good for a twolegs-
Sora stopped swimming to pause. He meant human, didn't he? He shook his head and banged it a little. He'd been feeling funny ever since he got fins. He heard a splash, and finally joined Kairi in looking for Riku in the water. Sora saw her- with all sorts of seaweed drapes and coral jewelry on her arms and neck and pearls woven into her hair that glinted in the moonlight. She looked lovely... So shiny, so entrancing... She darted one way with an uncannily fish-like maneuver.
Sora dove the other way when he spotted a glimpse of Riku's distinct white mane. He heard Riku's grunts as he presented his shackles, and Sora nodded. He began pulling and tugging. He shrugged, "I-I can't-" Riku gave an angry burst of bubbles. Sora blinked, then grabbed Riku around his middle and swam for the surface, "Oh yeah."
Riku coughed at the surface, and Sora looked around with a frown, "W-where'd Kairi go?" He felt a longing tug in his gut; he wanted Kairi. He wanted her back.
Riku sighed, "Dunno, she was... swimming deeper in..." Riku coughed more, waiting for Sora to respond, tell him a joke, something the teen would normally do. Riku looked at his companion, "Sora? I-I kinda need these cuffs off and I can't get it done by myself that easily..."
Sora was staring at the moon. His pupils eclipsed almost every bit of blue in his eyes. Riku knew something was wrong. Terribly wrong, "S-Sora...?"
Sora suddenly turned to Riku with a cloying smile. Riku shied away, but was caught in Sora's grasp, "Sora, that isn't funny."
Sora held up a finger and ran it across Riku's collarbones, beginning to hum a lilting tune as he grinned and bit at his lip, "Hmmmm..."
Riku felt hands at his legs, "S-Sora!" They began pulling, "SORA!"
Just before RIku went under Sora pulled him into a deep kiss. As the moon became smaller, as the light dispersed, Riku was sure the precious oxygen in his lungs was being stolen from him. As his vision swayed, Sora backed away and Kairi entered the picture.
Riku wasn't okay at all with drowning, but he was pretty okay with his last sight being both Kairi and Sora grinning and blowing mermaid kisses at him.
I'M SORRY THIS MARVELOUS PERSON ON TUMBLR CALLED DAKT37 DID A THING ("But what if Sora turned into a mermaid on a world where they're not so nice like Neverland or Port Royal and started getting intense sudden urges to drown people." [later] "#here let me just help you across this lagoon and#my god you're pale you'd shine like a full moon at the bottom of the sea forever#wait i mean no#the water's super cold we should get you out#but at the bottom you wouldn't shiver you'd be still and beautiful forever#NO NO NO#your legs are too tired and you're swallowing seawater i need to help before you run out of air#because it's mine your breath should be mine i'll wrap you up and pull it from your lungs#and we'll go down down down and you'll stay with me forever#….")
