Kuai Liang opened his eyes to see the dim sky above him. He blinked and groaned. He felt sore all over but was in no pain. He moved his head around and then sat up. He was in some little valley with small stones all over the place. He looked down by his left hand and saw his mask. He picked it up. Then he looked to his right hand and saw the dragon medallion glistening by it. Then he remembered.

He was held prisoner in this kingdom, Arendelle he thinks it was called. Then Noob Saibot came with the intent of returning to the Nethrealm with the Queen. To prevent him from achieving that goal he killed the Queen himself so that the Netherealm nor her would threaten the Lin Kuei. Truly it would have been better to take her back with him as they originally planned but that sadly that wasn't an option.

He picked up the medallion and his masks, stood up adorned the mask and walked off to return to the temple.

He knelt before the Grandmaster after presenting the Dragon Medallion to him. The old man took it with the rest of the Lin Kuei surrounding them in the ruins of the temple.

He held the medallion up "This is the symbol of the Lin Kuei. It has survived. We shall survive!" he turned down to Sub-zero "thanks to you". The Grandmaster bowed to him as the rest of the Lin Kuei knelt. Sub-zero rose to his feet as the Grandmaster did "What happened to her? The girl we captured"

Sub-zero's memories took him again but her fate was no different than her sisters. "Dead by my hand"

The Grandmaster nodded "She would have been a great asset but an even greater threat. You have done well" he said before dismissing him. The masses dispersed as Sub-zero walked off alone but he was soon joined by two others.

"Sub-zero!" a voice called and he turned to see Smoke and Cyrax approaching him. He said their names. "You have returned"

"Yes, to undo my brother's mess"

"But what of the.." he paused and looked around. There was no prying ears around "sisters?" Sub-zero looked confused "Anna and Elsa?"

"Dead" Sub-zero responded

"Dead?" "How?" they asked shocked even appalled

"I killed them" he said sternly "It was either they come with us or to the Netherealm with my brother. If they would not come with me then they could not go with either of us" Cyrax and Smoke were shocked.

"I don't believe you" Cyrax said

"You doubt me?"

"Elsa, how did she die?"

"I pulled her head from her body" Cyrax's eyes widened

"I don't believe it" Smoke said confidently "You killed no one"

"You think I'm lying?"

"I know you are. I can see it in your eyes" he pointed. Sub-zero suddenly thought everything over. He remembered killing them, all of them in the ways he was trained to.

But then he started to see something else. He saw flashes of Anna and Kristoff with each other; safe and lovingly. And he remembered the Queen. She was radiant and beautiful and… kissed him. No he kissed her. They kissed.

He shook his head, let out a painful groan and grabbed his forehead.

"Sub-zero?" Smoke asked concerned. But he snapped an arm up to them.

"I'm fine" he rumbled. "I'm just.. just"

"Just what?"

Sub-zero brought a hand to his chest "..in love…"he thought. "just confused" he said aloud.

Back in Arendelle everything seemed quitter, calmer but for on in particular it seemed empty. Elsa was overjoyed to have this whole violent ordeal over. Her sister was back and safe; they were all sure of it now. The Kingdom would have no more new or dangerous visitors. Despite all they have done to not only her family but likely many others she was still thankful for one of them. His actions and crimes were too gruesome to describe and it repulsed her.. but in the end deep down he was just a man trying to maintain his humanity among so many who lost it.

Time turned slowly in Arendelle from that time on. Anna and Kristoff's wedding came and there were smiles to be had and grand stories to tell. It was a grand occasion with ice sculptures of different shapes and sizes, chocolate fountains and array of bright colorful decorations. For all it was a time for merrymaking and for Elsa herself it helped get her mind off of recent events. But when Anna and Kristoff left for their honeymoon they left Elsa alone in the castle.

And when your alone all you have is your thoughts.

She stood before a window in the castle gazing out to the snow covered mountain peaks in the distance. Her reflection visible in the glass and she was so close her breath fogged the glass. She reached an arm up to wipe it away and the world became visible again. She let out a mournful sigh.

"Hello!" a voice shouted out and she jumped up. Turned around and pressed herself against the window. She looked down to see a short wide eyed snowman looking up to her.

"Olaf" she huffed

"Whatcha doin?" he asked

"Just-uh" she rolled her eyes around "looking out the window"

"Ooohh what do you see?" he asked cheerfully.

Elsa sighed "Nothing" she lowered her head

"Nothing can be good.. or bad, it depends how you look at it" For Elsa is was very bad. With her head lowered she walked over to her chair and sat at her table. Olaf waddled over, following her and plopped on a chair opposite of hers. "Do you know when Anna or Kristoff will be back from their honeymoon?"

"No" Elsa responded in a hollow voice "Soon I hope". Since Oakens was destroyed their honeymoon was now a tour of Arendelle. It was their third choice, Oakens being the first. The second was again Anna's choice. She insisted to go to "Outworld" to see the princesses there although not knowing where it is or how to get there she settled on a tour of the kingdom.

"Me too, it's not the same without them"

"It's a little lonely" Elsa sulked

"Are you lonely?" Olaf asked looking to her. She gave no reply "You know you always have me here and so is Sven and I'm sure Marshmallow wants to see you too" Elsa sniffled as she nodded. Seeing this was doing no real good he thought radically "oh what happened to Sub-zero" Elsa flinched and started to breathe heavily "I'm sure he'd like to see you too" Elsa suddenly let out a shriek and buried her head into her arms cried uncontrollably.

"Elsa? Elsa? Are you okay" the snowman rushed to her side and shook her. She picked her head up but her face was still buried in her hands "Elsa?" he said again. She dropped her hands and looked over to him "Do you want a warm hug?" he asked in an attempt to cheer her up.

She suddenly remembered a promise she made even if he didn't "Yeah, come here" she said as they embraced each other "This is from Kuai Liang" she whispered

"Who?" he responded

Anna and Kristoff returned from their honeymoon took long enough in Elsa's opinion. Anna was overjoyed to tell her older sister everything they did. She smiled politely and nodded. Now everything could go back to how it was. But even when that happened there was still a hole in Elsa's heart. One that no matter how hard she tried she couldn't fill it.

Elsa sat before her desk writing furiously to foreign countries. She signed her name, folded the paper in on itself and picked up a nearby jar of hot wax. She poured it onto the paper and pressed down the seal of Arendelle completing her duties. A rhythmic knock on the door echoed through the room.

"Come in Anna" Elsa said

The door opened and Anna bursted into the room "Hey Elsa!" she said ecstatically as she slammed her hands on the desk but Elsa did not flinch nor look up to her "How's you know it was me?"

"No one else knocks like you, and when they try they fail"

Anna stood giddily before her now dull sister "Guess what?"

"What?"

"It looks like" Anna jumped in place "there might be another little member of the royal family crawling around" Elsa said nothing "Elsa I'm pregnant"

"That's great Anna" she said dully

Anna scrutinized her stiff older sister "Elsa did you hear me?"

"Yeah" she said reaching for another letter

"So what do you think?"

"I told you, it's great" she said with even less enthusiasm than before

"Yeah!" she squealed "but you don't make it sound like its great" she said seriously. Elsa said nothing "Elsa?"

"Did you tell Kristoff?"

"Uh uh" Anna shook her head.

Elsa now looked up to her "So you came straight to me to tell me first?"

"Uh huh" Anna nodded

"Why?"

"Because you're going to be an aunt" Elsa laid the papers before her "and you my sister.. I thought you'd want to know.. do you"

"Yes Anna" Elsa said.

"And you can talk to me about anything right?"

"Yes Anna" she repeated

Anna slid her feet across the floor and rocked in place "So what's wrong?"

"Wrong?" Anna nodded "Nothing"

"It doesn't seem like nothing" Elsa sighed "Elsa? You can talk to me"

Elsa turned over to the window, pushed her chair back and walked over to it.

"Elsa? I'll help you with anything"

"You can't help me with this Anna"

"Why not" she did not answer "Is this about Sub-zero?" Elsa bit her lip and nodded.

"Oh" Anna let out "Well I'm sure everything will get better" she said cheerfully and full of optimism.

"I thought that too" Elsa said before letting out a sigh" I thought everything would get easier when I told everyone about my powers and I got you back and my life together and… it didn't" She looked down and fiddled with her hands "I wonder what mom and dad would think of me now, what we've done, who we fell in love with"

"I'm sure they'd approve" Anna said walking up to her sister "And I'm sure they had a hard time ruling too but they did it anyway" Elsa said nothing "And it if makes you feel any better I think you're doing a great job, better than one I could do"

Elsa smiled and Anna laughed "Thank you Anna" she turned to her "I love you"

"I love you too"

Years passed by and the Lin Kuei changed drastically. Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke all became cyborgs but Sub-zero managed to retain his humanity. Cyrax went off to join the Special Forces, Smoke went to form an alliance unwillingly with Noob Saibot. The Grandmaster eventually died; killed by his son Sektor. Then he and Sub-zero fought for the dragon medallion and the right to lead the Lin Kuei. That right went to Sub-zero who reformed the clan into a force of good. Soon after becoming the new Grandmaster he broke tradition and took an apprentice.

He trained with that apprentice, training her in the arts of the Lin Kuei but he had difficulty training right now.

Frost threw aggressive kicks and punches in the air as Sub-zero watched but less attentively than usual because something else ways in on his mind. He had a dream last night, a nightmare or not he couldn't tell but it was not the first time he's had it. He dreamed of the Snow Queen who he'd met so long ago. She showed him her home, her family and she trusted him. She even admitted she loved him. In the dream he did too, he protected her from his brother and the Lin Kuei long before he reformed it.

"Master?" Frost let out and snapped him out of his trance.

"Hm?"

"Are you alright?" she asked

He stood up straight now "I am fine"

"Very well" she turned away "How is my form?" she said before throwing more kicks and punches and he watched entranced. She shoved her hand forward but he didn't see Frost. He saw Elsa the snow Queen smiling at him.

Then Frost shot out an ice blast and it formed into a wall of sharp icicles. She turned to him "How was that?" he was unresponsive "Master?"

He flinched. "Try to make something" he said.

She looked confused "What?"

"That column over there" he said nodding off to a broken arch "Repair it"

She looked from the arch to him "Why?"

"Let us try to fix something for once" he said

She scoffed "What is broken will remain so" she said. Sub-zero froze. It was not too long ago he said the same thing. At least in his dream he said that. "Why Master?"

He paused before answering "It was something I saw in a dream last night"

"A dream?"

"Yes" he nodded

"Why were you repairing something in your dream?"

"I didn't, I… " he trailed off

"What was this dream about?"

"Someone I met long ago" he said

"Who?" she inquired

He turned back to her "Someone I killed"

"Then it must not be of importance. Let us continue traini-"

"Not of importance?" he snapped "What makes you say that?"

"You dream of a person who has long since been dead. There is no need to dwell on your past"

Sub-zero sighed "Maybe your right"

"It seems I have already begun to teach you" she said confidently towards him. It was more arrogance that actual content. Sub-zero looked her over as she went back to training. She waved her hands as ice formed around them and shot from them creating a large slab of ice. As she did this the image of Frost faded and he saw Elsa standing in her place. She was smiling and happy and beautiful.

She looked over to him, giggled and winked before turning back to the slab of ice. She picked her hand up and snapped it forward smashing the ice as well as his train of thought. He blinked and Elsa reverted to Frost. She was staring at him.

"Master?" she asked.

He shook his head "Let us end the lesson for today"

"What? Why I-"

"Enough!" he snapped. She was ready to refute and argue but she had no time for he walked away. "There is something I must do"

Sub-zero stood in a graveyard, the tombstones of the deceased stood up all around him. He was in the middle of them all waiting. He heard footsteps approaching and he exhaled a deep breathe. HE turned around and greeted the other person; the one he called her today.

"Bi Han" he said

"Kuai" he responded dryly. "Or should I call you Grandmaster now?" he joked but of course it garnered no laughs "I was surprised to be summoned here by you. What is the occasion?" Sub-zero was silent he just looked off into the distance. He was trying to remember if he knew how to get somewhere "Is it about Smoke?" he asked maliciously.

"No" Sub-zero shook his head.

"Then what is it?" he seemed legitimately interested now.

Sub-zero took a deep breath "You remember all those years ago, those sisters who crossed our paths?"

"Hm?"

"The younger was abducted by the Lin kuei, the elder could control ice"

A small chuckle left Noob "Yes I do"

"Do you remember what happened to them?"

"You don't?" Sub-zero made no reply "Or is that regret talking?" still no answer "You were always weak Kuai"

Sub-zero turned his head to him "What happened?"

Noob looked him over "You pulled her head from her body" Sub-zero flinched. A large pain was cemented in his chest. "But it didn't stop there" Noob continued "her sister.. you froze her legs and ripped her torso from the ice. As for her husband you froze his-"

"Stop!.. I understand.. thank you Bi Han" he said and continued to look at him. He regarded him, his elder brother for what he is, what he was and what never could be. He was now reminded of those sisters from long ago and how much they loved each other. "Bi han?" he spoke up

"Hm?"

"Do you ever think what's happened between us, what we are.. what we don't feel for each other. Do you feel that's wrong?" Noob did not answer "You know" he paused for his brother to listen "I always loved the idea of an older brother. I loved the idea of you. I bear your name and garbs in the idea of you… but I can never love you" he stopped and waited for his brother to answer but he never did "Do you even care?" he still did not answer "Did you ever care?"

"Hm. You already know the answer" he told.

Sub-zero nodded in acknowledgement "Goodbye Bi Han"he said softly as he turned his back to his brother and began to walk off.

"Kuai" Noob called and he stopped "I cannot let you walk away from me"

"I know". Suddenly Noob appeared before him and threw a punch but he successfully blocked it.

Their battle was fierce but it ended with no fatality. It ended and the two went their separate ways. Sub-zero returned to the temple. He walked through the temple and all he passed bowed to him.

He ascended the stairs and sat on his throne. His sat perfectly in the chair, his arms rested on the armrests as he looked out to the temple as the numerous ninja walked past him, acknowledged him and then continued on. He sat on his throne after another battle with is evil brother and having the truth be revealed to him. He lowered his head.

"Sub-zero?" a sweet voice questioned. HE turned over to see Elsa standing by the side of his throne, smiling down at him.

"Elsa!" he gasped and bounded up from his seat to her. He gazed upon her as she stood before him "how did you get here? How did you find me?" he rambled

"Huh?" she let out "What do you mean?" she asked confused

"How did you know about the temple's whereabouts?"

"I've been here the whole time" she responded

Sub-zero raised an eyebrow "No you haven't"

"Master are you alright?" Elsa asked but he heard Frost's voice exit her mouth. Sub-zero shook his head and Elsa disappeared from his view and was replaced by Frost who looked at him with confusion. Sub-zero lowered his head and shoulders as he sighed. "May we continue with my training now?"

"Not now" he eventually answered.

"Elsa?" Frost asked perking his interest "Who is that?"

He turned around and returned to his throne. He sat down, closed his eyes and pondered to himself. He thought of the images he saw, their meaning, and importance.

"Master?" Frost said again as he opened his eyes

"No one of importance" he concluded "There is no reason to dwell on the past".

This confused Frost but she did not dwell on it for long. "Well then may we continue my-"

"No!" he roared and she flinched as his voice echoed. "Leave me" he waved her away. Startled she bowed and then walked away. She left him alone on his throne.

Unbeknownst to him the woman he had just decided to cast out of his mind forever was actually alive. She like him was the ruler of the land and she controlled ice. Unlike him she loved her sibling but like him she was all alone in the world.
