Disclaimer: I do not own Skye, Phil Coulson, Melinda May, Grant Ward, or FitzSimmons. I only own the variation I have created off of this very popular idea.
I firstly must thank Neeeeeal who, as the author of Turn Back Time, has done such a very interesting and lovely job on their story I wanted to give my attempt of it a go.
However, because I cannot find B.J. Britt's wiki page or his age, I'm going with Ward. But that's not the only reason. It's because with the Hydra plot, I see no room or logical way for this story to make sense. So... It's AUish. Ward isn't hydra. Yay! Because I really did love Ward.
Warning, MAY include Avengers. I upped the rating for my own comfort.
"Is this going to hurt?" Leo asked as he sat on the edge of Grant's cot in the med pod. The four of them had loved and hated flying around in the BUS for many reasons. They hated it because they rarely saw their mommy, they couldn't get Dunkin donuts, Grant was forced to stay in bed all day, there was no outside, and they couldn't pilot the plane whenever they asked. But they loved the BUS because of the tv, their new Aunt Bobbi who they loved to play with and junk food their older selves had hidden around.
"No," The SHIELD doctor explained, impressed that Leo was holding his arm out at the ready like a brave little kid. Bobbi watched from a safe distance away, repelled by the needles. She glanced over at the doctor who had to administer Skye and felt a stab of sympathy for the man. After all, she had been the same thing if not worse in her youth.
Skye was practically wrestling with the doctor, kicking and hitting in every attempt to get away from the needle. In the two weeks that Bobbi had been here she learned a bit about her new temporary team. One of those things was to never, ever bring up monkeys in a conversation with Leo but the other was that Skye was extremely stubborn. More so than the stubbornest mule.
"Skye," May lightly scolded as she put her hands on the girls shoulder and forcibly willed her to give the man her arm.
In the two weeks since they rescued the kids May had hardly seen them. She wouldn't allow them into the cockpit no matter how much they pleaded, cried with crocodile tears, or screamed. Because one wrong button could send them all crashing towards their death and May personally didn't feel like dying because a child pressed a wrong button. But from what she heard from Coulson and Bobbi, their nights had been filled with kids getting into bed with them due to nightmares, restless children, and a lot more noise that wasn't gunfire than Bobbi was used to. In a sense, May was going to missed the children but not as much as she secretly missed her normal younger team.
"Daddy?" Jemma looked up at Coulson, "Do you promise it'll be ok?"
Coulson gave a smile at Jemma and nodded, "Everything is going to be fine Jemma."
The little girl nodded and glanced over at Grant who'd been really quiet. Truth be told he was pretty sleepy from the painkillers he was on and merely gave a thumbs up. Coulson gave discreet nod towards the doctors, giving them the signal to reverse the children back into his agents.
A chorus of helps came from all four children as the needle went in and the plunger went down. It only lasted for half a second and immediately after the doctors removed the needles, each child had passed out in blissful sleep. For a brief moment Coulson's eyes widened before a doctor quickly assured him that they were fine.
"It is an over night process, just put the children to bed and by the start of tomorrow morning they should be agents again."
Coulson sighed in relief and quickly helped Bobbi and May collect the children, disposing them properly on their bunks. When he reentered the lounge area May and Bobbi were already helping themselves to drinks. Seeing him approach, May reached over the bar and produced a beer for him.
"Thanks," Coulson opened it and drank a good gulp of it down. Bobbi watched the two with a slight smile.
"You two gonna miss having the ankle biters around?" She asked.
The two senior agents glanced at each other, before simultaneously answering, "No."
A slight part of Bobbi deflated but she didn't let it show, "You know, your gonna have to explain all of the kids stuff. And reintroduce them to the Avengers."
"You don't think they'll remember?" Coulson asked.
"Why would they?" Bobbi asked, "They didn't remember you when they were kids. Besides, calling May mom? I think I'd prefer to have no memory of that, that's sort of embarrassing."
Bobbi was right, none of the four agents remembered at all what had transpired in the time that they were kids. Ward, upon waking up, panicked about his injury and not knowing where he was until the familiar sight of Coulson put him at ease. May and Bobbi knew exactly when the other three were awake when they heard them shouting to each other in confusion. A part of it broke May's heart but then she reminded herself that the last thing they likely remember is being held captive in less than acceptable conditions.
It took a long time to calm them all down at first, but even longer when they explained what happened because, well, the kids had a lot of adventures and explaining everything would take forever. Bobbi was some help but not much when it came to explaining anything other than why she was there. But the moment that Fitz mentioned Bobbi's code name as the Mockingbird, Skye wanted to know the exact story on how she got it and did not stop pestering until a threat was made on her life.
And life went on, Coulson and his team were back were they left off, more or less. Coulson and May hadn't exactly told the team about their little kiss yet. That's just their little secret for now.
To be really, truthfully honest I was going to end the story with Phil and Melinda adopting a baby, like a time skip. But given that I did the kiss and their ages, or what I'm estimating to be their ages, it wouldn't be practical. Especially for two SHIELD agents that can be killed at any time. So yeah... Story over :( Fifty three chapters of awesome huh?
Rest assure I will write a new fanfic! I've actually posted a few Avengers Stories, they're all in progress. I got an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D./Avenger crossover. But alas, the time has come to end this story. And just in time. season Three is coming!
