Things are not what they seem

Chapter XXIII

It was getting dark, everything was blurred and it was getting dark, although the young girl tried her best to remain conscious, but even with her best of efforts, her vision was getting distorted and her breath was ragged as she gasped and gasped. There was a lot of blood that was coming from the wound on her right arm, though the child didn't feel anything, she was numb to the pain because of the adrenaline of the moment. She remained silent even though what the brown-haired girl wanted to do was scream, cry for help but she didn't do anything. She just lay in the floor in silence, complete silence, as she was struggling with the heavy weight of the adult over her. She wanted to squirm to get away but she couldn't move she wasn't strong enough to get away. The strong smell of alcohol reached her nostrils and it was disgusting, she feel a wave of nausea going on inside of her. She suddenly hears a laugh, a maniac laugh. Her demon has gotten her and he was enjoying seeing her struggle under his grab, under his claws. She couldn't see his face, his face with that twisted smile that he has, luckily… The sound of laughing kept reaching her ears, till the sounds of someone unbuttoning his jeans comes to her ears and suddenly something inside of her snapped, an overwhelming fear comes in a fast wave, taking control of her body and her eyes flared -

In that instant she woke up, her eyes wide open, unfocused. Her breath was ragged and her heart pounding at a fast rate as if it would get out of her rib cage, a cold trail of sweat going down on her forehead, but no sound come out of her: not a scream, nothing. She was laying on her bed, without making a sound except from her gasping.

After a couple of minutes, the raven-haired girl sat on her bed and spun her head around repeatedly, reassuring herself. Slowly her pounding heart ceased, her breath became steady and her frightened mind calmed down after realizing that she was in her bedroom and there was not a single signal of the monster around.

'C'mon West, put yourself back together. Don't be so coward by this!' Always being so harsh with herself…

Then the raven-haired girl lifted her left arm and in a single movement she put her arm around her forehead and rubbed it to get rid of the perspiration, after she was done with it, when she looked at her arm which was full of sweat, she could not help feeling disgusted with herself.
The Goth girl hated sweat, a lot it was simple: sweating it's so gross and in this case it always made her feel weak and she hated it. She always hated waking up like this: sweating, heart pounding, ragged breath, gasping for air.

The thespian grabbed her head with both of her hands, trying to calm down and ignore the thoughts that were invading her head. This memory always haunt her mind, in form of nightmares like a flashback, the maniac laugh that made her sick to the bone, still ringing on her head and she couldn't help but shudder at the sound of it. That monster had broken her in more ways than the thespian would like to admit… Although those nightmares weren't so recurrent like before, when she feels pretty stressed out or very sick, it always haunts her mind, like a reminder of that the monster was still out there to make her life a real hell and that he would finish what he'd started.

The thespian rubbed her hands over her face and let out a sigh that she had chocked in her throat… Not wanting to dwell anymore in that turmoil that the monster could make inside of her, Jade threw away the sheets off herself and sat at the right side of the king-size bed. She looked over the alarm clock that rested on one nightstand and it marked in a red flashing light: 8 AM. The raven-haired girl, sighed and decided to start her day, because she knew that trying to go back to sleep now, would be in vain and it would be a waste of time.

After finishing with her routine which consisted in bathing, put clothes on of the day and make her bed, the thespian once she left her room, she stood with her back at the wooden mahogany door of her bedroom, deliberating if she should check up on the half-latin girl or if she should keep going with the monotone routine of everyday and check on the girl later.

Her body acted in autopilot and carried the raven-haired girl, towards the wooden door at the end of the hall, which was the guest bedroom. As the hallway was dark because the light of the sun didn't reach it, because all the doors were closed and it didn't have any window, it could be easy seen that there was a dim light coming from the room through by the door knob. The Goth girl, moved her body to the side and rested her back on the wall and slowly pushed the door, the most silently that she could make it, leaving it slightly ajar, which it allowed the thespian see what was going on inside the room... The sight was depressing.

The half-latin girl was sitting on the bed, with the sheets and covers over her body, at the height of above her knees, her arms around them and her head resting on it, through it seemed like she was watching the outside world of that room, through the window which has the curtains on but still the light coming from the bright sun leaked through the heavy dark purple curtain that covered the window. The depressive aura around the brunette was pretty palpable and it was sickening.
The raven-haired girl tipped her head against the wall of creamy color that her body was leaning on but her gaze never left the depressive teenager that was in the guest room of her house, the Goth girl feel pretty uncomfortable and confused, not knowing what to do, for her luck it seemed as if the brunette didn't notice her presence or if she did, she didn't care in the least.

This situation was extremely awkward and the Goth girl found herself having seconds thoughts about her decision of having her frenemy here a couple of times, although she could understand why the tanned girl was so silent and spaced out, trapped in her mind, this was a lot to take on, for the brunette and for herself. The brunette surely was feeling ashamed of herself for letting the situation of her home life to led her to the point of breaking, breaking for enduring a pain that was making her physically and mentality sick and in the other hand, there was her frenemy, who is the only one that had caught her in one of the worst moment of her life and now, the supposed person who hates her guts a lot, it's the only one that took the girl in. It was really confusing….

Oh how things have changed in so little time? The thespian shook slightly her head thinking that sometime before, in this situation she would be having a camera in hand and recording the brunette in her time of suffering, making it a movie, which it was perfect as it seemed like the brunette was a prisoner of those four walls, in her own house….

Jade stood there looking at the girl for a little while before heading downstairs and make breakfast for everyone, she would later try to talk to the girl and see if she could get her come out of her catatonic state.

It was too early to be up on a Saturday but the thespian wouldn't go back to sleep, so she went to the big kitchen and made pancakes and she put all her focus on cooking, standing in front of the stove flipping the now solid mixture in the air and catching it again, because with all this thoughts the only thing that the Goth girl was getting was a headache.

After setting the dinning table with three plates for each one and in the center of the table, another plate full of pancakes stacked in form of a tower, a glassed jar of orange juice, two glassed and a cup for the raven-haired girl. Jade then screamed one word: Breakfast.
Like always, 5 minutes after the call, Jade could hear running footsteps, coming downstairs and she couldn't help the small smirk that appeared on her face, Dylan always loved when she made breakfast.

When both, brother and sister West had sat at the dinning table for breakfast, a scene of contrast could be seen: Dylan was eating at a fast rate, chewing with his mouth full of big slices of pancakes with lot of honey syrup which exceeded in quantity one after another and on his plate, he recreated a mini tower of pancakes where the honey syrup was trickling over all the pancakes, just like the way he liked eating it. In the other hand, Jade was eating her breakfast in a more calm way, taking her time to eat her toast of butter and strawberry jam while drinking her black coffee with two sugars.
The raven-haired girl was enjoying her breakfast with the company of her little brother, she knew that everyone else would be disgusted by the mess that her little brat was making out of his food: with just taking a simple look over him, she could see a trail of honey coming from the corners of his mouth, a lot of crumbs around his mouth and on his clothes… But she didn't give a damn about it, the only thing that mattered to her was that she could see that her little brother had loved the meal and he was relishing it, having a big smile on his face while eating. She just let her brother be, unlike their parents who has always showed their disgust with the manners of their son, although their mother has showed it in a subtle way, not like their father.

After cleaning the table when the little flea left the room, running upstairs to washing himself up and change his clothes for the day, when the raven-haired girl saw the clean plate that was left untouched on the table, she frowned and let out a tired sigh out of her lips. 'This will be hard as hell...'

The Goth girl found herself in the obligation of bring the breakfast to the guest in their house, although she already knew how this would end in being a waste of time… The raven-haired girl went upstairs with a wooden tray in both hands, which had a plate with pancakes, the honey syrup bottle and a glass with orange juice.

The raven-haired girl entered the room, which she found that the door was slightly ajar, just like she had left it, earlier. Her guest didn't do anything at her entrance in the room, she just keep looking outside, though she knew that the girl in the bed was trapped in her mind. Jade let out another sigh and went directly towards the desk that was leaning against the wall where was the window and left there the tray with the food.

The room was medium sized, simple with little furniture but it was nicely decorated and it fulfilled with its function. Standing at the door's frame, you could see the bed that was at the opposite wall in front of the door, horizontally placed along the wall, like it was seeing at the window. On the wall where was the window, by a few meters at the right, was the wooden desk that had three drawers, which it was accompanied with a comfortable metallic desk chair. The closet was built-in into the wall where the door was.

The raven-haired girl, went and sat down by the closed door of the room, without saying anything, the brunette didn't react at all, she didn't say anything or she didn't do anything and it was kinda getting in the Goth girl's nerve. This catatonic state was sickening and the thespian was having a bad feeling, which she decided to push it to the back of her mind, though she couldn't help but remember the outburst that the brunette had, the only thing that the thespian could do was to hope that something like that wouldn't happen here, in her house… Not at least while her little brother was here, she didn't want him to experience something like that; she was already scarred.

Jade didn't know how long she sat there, in the guest room of her house, waiting for something to happen: she hoped to see any reaction, by the slightest it could be but her hopes had died as the only thing that the brunette did all the time that she was there, was to look at the outside world that could be seen through the window, just like earlier in the day. The tanned girl was spacing out a lot and this was getting the thespian worried, the breakfast that she had brought had cooled long time ago, which the brunette hadn't tasted a morsel. The raven-haired girl let out another heavy sigh out and ran her hand through her hair in desperation, trying to think of something that could bring the brunette girl back to life, seriously deliberating if her decision of bringing this girl to her house was a good idea at all, or by the rush of adrenaline it was a stupid thing to do. She was feeling hopeless and lost, she didn't know what to do to help her frenemy, she just felt like she has picked up another trouble to bring it to her plate which was already full with the drama of her family.
