Chapter Eleven: Girl Meets the Uninvited

Part 1

This chapter actually had to become a two-parter because there's too much information and script aspects in this chapter and I know Maya wasn't really the main focus but next chapter it'll really touch of Riley and Maya's friendship in relation to Cory and Shawn's like a lesson learned from watching it. I sorry I take forever to update but thanks for the patience and support!

After begging us for hours, because Riley got an invitation as well and was originally going to toss the invite in the trashcan, we agreed to go to this stupid 'cool' party being thrown by some girl that I don't know the name of. We descend the staircase, it become abundantly clear by the lack of noise and shouting teens that it's not quite what Cory Matthews thought, pretty funny myself though.

"Hi. I'm Cory," he says, awkwardly, might I add, as the snotty girl just looks over at him a moment before turning her head to shout at the staircase like it's got ears or something and can hear what she's saying. "Good evening, Cory Matthews. Welcome to my home, I'm so happy you could be here!"

Maybe there's something around her I could hit her with, if she's gonna be shouting the whole time, I might as well find a way to make myself suffer less by crazy violence or try to find a way to go deaf, wait, there are speakers over there, near the back wall. Wonder how loud they get?

"Er..." Cory trails off, glancing over his shoulder at us in confusion, I just shrug. "You're welcome," he shifts closer to her, glancing around the room, eyes landing on the four nerdy looking boys on the couch as the girl in the creme dress turns to face them, crossing her legs. "So, who's here? Who's hot?"

"No one," her voice wavers as Cory turns to look at the boys on the couch before turning to look away, resting her head on her hand.

Sighing, I take a seat on the staircase, this is gonna be awhile. Riley sits down beside me, tearing her eyes away from the party, she leans closer to me and whispers in my ear.

"Maya, does this feel really familiar or is it just me?"

"Nah, I feel the Déjà vu too. We really shouldn't have come, if I knew I'd have to sit at this crappy little party, I'd have ditched it, found us a place to sleep for the night instead of that tree house because eventually Cory and Shawn will go into it and we can't be there when they do," I reply, keeping my emotions hidden, pushed to the back of my mind.

"Yep, the competition is pretty thin so far. Looks like I'm the coolest guy here," I faintly hear Cory say, not paying much attention until the girl speaks again, and I have to bite back a smirk when she does.

"Yeah, rub it in."

"I'm the coolest guy here... Oh, no." H trails off before shouting out his realization. "It's a geek party!"

Literally falling over, my body shakes as I dissolve into laughter that consumes my entire being, this was so ironic, too bad he doesn't know that in about twenty of thirty years the same thing will happen, only with Riley and Farkle being the one to invite her instead. My sides ache and my lungs burn for air but I can't stop myself from laughing.

I'm practically in tears by the time I manage stop and sit up, Cory doesn't seem to have notice nor the other girl but Riley and the three nerdy boys did. "Seems like father like daughter," I nudge Riley who only glares at me.

"But they're just the first guys here, right? I mean, the rest of us cool guys are coming later, right?" Cory asks, stumbling over his words as if he'd been hoping his assumption was wrong.

Unfortunately for him, it wasn't.

She looks back over at him and sighs out an. "I wish."

"Excuse me, there's a bug in the onion dip," one of the nerdy boys, Simon I think Cory said it was, mentions to the girl hosting the party while holding the orange bowl of dip in his hands, she looks like she'd rather be anywhere else but responds nonetheless.

I don't blame her, I don't even want to be here and I'm pretty chill about the whole part scene. Popularity isn't my main focus in life, got more important things, like sponging off Riley.

"I know—I put it there OK?," she retorts, a snippy undertone to her voice.

"Oh," he says a realization hits. "OK, thanks." He doesn't seem to notice though, as he simply smiles at her and nods at her response and prances away like nothing happened at all.

Riley leans towards me. "I know I was at a Geek Party, but I have to say that I preferred my party to this because at least the nerdier kids considering me cool, then I went on my harajuku spiral but this is just really uncomfortable."

My eyes dart around the room a moment. "No ones paying attention to us Riles, we could just bail."

Riley's brown eyes skirt to mine, then back to her father, then to me again and quickly shakes her head no. "We can't do that Maya, that'd be mean. I don't like being mean, to anyone, much less my Dad in the past. We told him we'd come with him and that's precisely what we're gonna do."

"Hey, I'm all for support, but this is a whole new level of strange," I reply, looking over at Cory and snob girl.

"You know, I'm looking at your party guests and I can't help noticing that there's not exactly a cross-section of the student body," he said, glancing over at her as she watches the nerdy boys on her couch.

"My parents went over the guest list and took off all the cool guys."

At that, Cory pauses in place as if thinking over what she said as a slow and painfully obvious wave of realization washes of him. I can practically feel the disappointment and sort of pain he must be feeling. "So that's why you didn't invite Shawn."

"Well, Shawn was the first person off the list. See, 'cause Mom and Dad think that guys like Shawn are a little," she shifts her shoulders a moment. "Unpredictable."

"Yep, that's us," he replies, sounding nervous. "Unpredictable. You never know what we're gonna do next." Suddenly he makes some noise and Riley jumps, biting back a yelp of surprise. "Blaaaa!" he blows out a surprise breath so fake that I bite my tongue to keep from laughing at it. "Sometimes I'm so unpredictable I surprise myself."

"I knew this was gonna Mom and Dad nixed all the guys like Shawn, none of the girls are gonna show since none of the girls show up, none of the regular guys come," Snobby goes off on her tyrannical raid, and I honestly consider throwing the lamp on the table beside me at her general directions. "I can't believe my parents did this to me!"

"Then you really shouldn't have thrown the stupid party in the first place genius," I reply dryly, as she glances over and finally realizes Riley and me are actually here for the first time. She narrows her eyes and glares at me.

"How long have you been here?" she asks, her nose crinkling in annoyance at me.

"Since Geek Boy over there," I nod my head in Cory's direction. "Just sayin' that it doesn't make any sense for you t continue through with the party when you knew your parents weren't gonna approve the guest list. Maybe it's just because I have this thing called common sense."

I flash her a sugary-smile

"Well," Cory turns his attention to me with a smile message 'knock-it-off' before turning back to Snob Girl. "It's a good thing you sneaked me in without them knowing. Phew! Hope they don't catch me."

"Cory," she give him a knowing-look. "My parents love you."

"No! Blaaa! No!"

"They think you're a—" she pitches her voice in the way a parent would. "'nice young man'."

"Oh, yeah? Let's see how nice they think I am after I do this!" he pulls her close as if he's going to kiss her, Riley looks away, her skin taking on a tint of green. She might just hurl here, I look around for a bathroom.

She sounds shocked and surprised. "Cory What are you doing?"

"I don't know," he steps back. "I'm way over my head here."

She grins at him, mockingly. "I knew it, you're totally PA."

"PA?" he asks, and I'm glad he did because even I'm not sure what she means by that. Not a universally known term I suppose.

"Parentally acceptable."

"That's bad?" he raises an eyebrow while I just roll my eyes in annoyance. What's will all the low-level entry question. It's like Riley Meets World but generations back, Cory Meets World. Better yet, Girl Meets World meets Boy Meets World. That'd be a great TV show, someone should really get on it.

"Well, it's as bad as it gets in high school," she said, just as a red haired girl starts down the stairs, Riley and I get up and step over to where Cory stand, Riley pushes me in the center between the her and her father.

"It's a girl!" one of the other boys shouts

"A girl came?!" asks another as all three come running for her as the red head steps off the staircase.

"Get away!" the Snob girl said to the nerdy boys, as they come up and encircle her friend who'd just crossed the floor to meet her friend. "She's not for you."

"Oh," they say, scurrying off. "OK."

"I came to tell you there's a really cool party going on," the red head tells her friend.

"Oh?" Snob girl replies, "Where?"

Cory's leaned nearly over the red head shoulder who turns to look over at him, a look of annoyance in her eyes as she speaks to him in a similar way that the snobby party host speaks. "Excuse me, we're talking here."

He give a hollow grunt hollow grunt and the red head pulls her friend to the side to whisper in her ear.

"Look," Cory says, starting forward. "The wall."

Seriously? Is he on something because at this point I'm starting to wonder if he should be drug tested, kids insane, no wonder he so neurotic in Riley and my time, if he was this bad back here in this time, at least he's settled somewhat.

"Later," Redhead says as she skips back towards the staircase.

"Wait," she giggles as she runs after her friend. "I'm coming with you."

"You can't just leave your own party," he friend replies, looking around at the six of us.

She rolls her eyes. "Watch me."

"What about me?" Cory asks, stepping forward.

"Oh, yeah, you," she fake a sympathy pout. "When the chips are gone, the party's over," then she follows her friends up the stairs, leaving Cory, Riley, and me all alone with these nerdy kids. Screw it all...
