Chapter SEVEN

Mikasa was assigned to a group tasked with front line evacuation. The people in her group were all at least five years older than her but her name had traveled far and despite the fact that she had never actually fought or seen a titan, they didn't seem to think they were better than her.

Perhaps they simply did not know her lack of actual experience.

Still, she had years of experience directly under Levi and when her temporary squad mates automatically feel into line under her command, she knew exactly what to do when it came to effectively moving a group of people.

When she caught sight of her first ever real titan, she had to pause to question how Levi had survived for so long in a job that required getting close to them.

They weren't the most pleasant of things to look at.

Mikasa quickly ran through scenarios in her head. While she had never been to this area, she had the maps hammered into her head and quickly painted a mental map. "We will take care of the titans by the church area first." She decided. "Squads 7 and 10 were assigned the market place. Once cleared, we will go aid them there."

Her squad mates did not question her orders and seconds later, Mikasa had her first ever titan kill to start her count. Her squad was quick to follow her example. They might not have been particularly skilled or anything but they made quick work of the few titans in the area.

The market place is slightly more populated with titans and Mikasa soon loses sight of her squad mates as she adds another titan to her count.

And for the first time since she had been with Levi and co, running from the Survey Corps, a plan she had wanted to stick to falls apart.

When she saved a mother and child from becoming titan food, a long forgotten memory surfaced; it had been a while since she had seen a family like that, with her being cooped up in the Training grounds and all.

Her family had been forcefully taken away from her, but then she had given her another. Levi, Isabel and Farlan would never be able to replace her parents but Mikasa had decided long ago that she didn't want them to.

Her parents were her parents. They had brought her to this world and had taught her of it's beauty.

Levi, Isabel and Farlan were Levi, Isabel and Farlan. They had showed her the crueler side to the world, but had also taught her that even so, the world was beautiful. Mikasa wondered if the cruelty was what made everything else seem so beautiful.

She quickly shook off her useless thoguhts and was about to go look for her squad mates when a large group of soldiers from the 104th training corps stranded on a high roof caught her eye. She quickly changed directions.

Armin, who had looked out of it, looked up at the familiar sound of the 3DMG. "Mikasa!"

Everyone looked up as she landed on the roof. "What are you..." She trailed off.

Armin easily understood what she had been implying. "We're nearly out of gas." He said. "And the supply depot is overrun with titans." He indicated towards a building and Mikasa followed the direction his finger was pointing. She unconsciously checked the contents of her gas and relaxed a little in relief when its weight told her she still had plenty.

The soldiers began talking at one, but Mikasa shut them out, forcing herself to stay calm. She couldn't leave everyone behind but she couldn't exactly kill all the titan from here to the supply depot. She glanced around, recognizing several people from different squads. Still, she was sure many were missing-

Mikasa froze. "Wait. How many are you missing?"

Armin flinched. "Th-the 34th squad was annihilated. A-along with E-Eren..." Armin broke off, another wave of tears rushing to his eyes. "I-"

Mikasa bit the inside of her cheek. That couldn't be true, right? However, looking at Armin's grief stricken face, she could tell that Armin believed what he was saying. Besides, he would have no reason to lie.

She glanced around at everyone again. Pathetic. Still...

"Armin." Said blonde looked up. "If we get everyone to the supply depot, you can refill our gas and we can escape, correct?"

Armin slowly nodded. "But..."

Mikasa stood up. "We need to get to the depot."

A wave of protests crashed down on her.

"There's no way we can do that."

"Yeah, not even with you on our side!"

"We're going to die anyway!"

The last one made Mikasa want to beat the person's face in. She took a deep breath and fixed everyone with a dark glare. "I am strong." She began. "Stronger than all of you. I'm very strong. I can kill all the titans out there. I can do it, even if I am alone. You're either incompetent or you're spineless cowards. How pathetic. You can just sit here and suck your thumbs and watch. Yes, do as you please." She turned her back on the shocked soldiers and let the adrenalin rush through her. She then shot off.

I cannot die here. After all, if I die here, I can never see Levi and the other again.

So, today, the 13th of March, is our birthday (Yes, both of us), and so, we decided to update!

Darque: So, you see, I was supposed to be reading my history textbook on Hitler when I was writing this.

Raven: And?

Darque: I'm writing this even though I'm supposed to be working?

Raven:So?
