Ianto couldn't remember the last time he'd gotten three incident reports finished and on his desk in such short order. Though, after looking through them, it was obvious why – Owen, Gwen, and even Tosh had basically used their reports to "officially" unleash a torrent of vitriol at their leader.

Ianto couldn't imagine Jack Harkness giving over under any circumstances, so for him to have let that little girl go with the faeries, it had to have been the only thing he could have done. And to have to deal with that just after having lost an old friend to the same faeries….

Finishing up the filing he had for the moment, Ianto headed back up to tidy the Hub and see if Jack could do with a cup of coffee. When he heard a sharp sniff from Jack's office, Ianto figured he'd best make that coffee with a heavy dosage of the Islay scotch Jack kept in.

Ianto silently stepped into Jack's office, hoping he just could set the coffee on Jack's desk and slip back out without embarrassing his boss. Jack sat with his head in his hands not seeming to notice anything anyway. As Ianto put the mug down, though, Jack reached out to catch his hand.

"I'm sorry," Jack murmured.

"Sir?"

"For everything. To anybody who will listen."

"Don't think there's anything to apologize for," Ianto said quietly.

"Yeah. You weren't there."

Ianto didn't say anything in response. It was true enough, he'd only had Owen, Tosh, and Gwen's side of the story.

"At least you'll only hate me vicariously."

"Why would I do that?"

"Maybe you had it before… maybe I am a monster."

Ianto took a breath. "I apologized for that, sir."

"You can apologize without having been wrong."

"But I was wrong."

"Ianto… would you…."

"Would I what, sir?"

Jack was quiet for a minute. "Nothing. Never mind. It's not fair to you. You should go on home."

Ianto didn't move.

Eventually Jack got the point. "Would you stay and talk to me?"

"That's better," Ianto said with a small smile. "Mind if I splash a shot into mine as well, then?"

Jack pulled a very old bottle of whisky from his desk and passed it to Ianto.
