Chapter 8

"Bob."

Bob groaned.

"Bob, honey, wake up," Helen said as she gently nudged his shoulder.

As soon as he recognized the voice, he shot up from the floor. He moaned as his head pounded.

"Oh, not this again," he muttered.

"Honey," Helen said.

Bob looked at her, "Hey, you okay? The kids?"

"We're fine," Helen responded as she touched Bob's forehead. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Just a headache, that's all," he replied.

He looked around the stark-white room and his eyes landed on his children. Jack-Jack was sniffling, his eyes fresh with tears. Violet held him as Dash sat next to her.

"Where's Kiera?" He asked as he stood up from the floor.

"I don't know. They must have took-," Helen responded as she stood next to him.

A voice interrupted them from a shadowed corner of the room. They turned to look to see a woman with grey eyes and dark blonde hair. Scars marked her worn face.

"She's here? Keira's here? She's…she's alive?"

Bob nodded, "Yea, she's alive. Who are you?"

The woman sighed with relief, her shoulders sagging as if the weight of the world was lifted from her shoulders. Tears filled her eyes and spilled over. She started sobbing as she slid down the wall to the floor. Helen pulled the picture out from Bob's uniform and looked at it.

"Bob, look, it's her mother," Helen whispered.

He looked at the woman in the picture and recognized her without the scars. He took the picture from Helen and went over the woman. He kneeled down and handed it to her. Her sobs lessened to a quiet sniffle. She took it from him and looked at it. For the first time in a long time, she let out a chuckle.

"We took this just before we left for our vacation. My husband was a pilot for an airline company so he flew the small aircraft we were in. We were in trouble as soon as we got close to the island. We crashed onto the beach. Kiera was only seven when it all happened. Later that night after we crashed, men came for us. For some reason, we just knew we had to protect our daughter, so we hid her in the forest," She said as she gazed at the picture.

"Why did they grab you and your husband?" Helen asked.

"For experiments. Lothor, the scientist, the madman, was so fascinated with supers and so he wanted to know how one received powers so he could improve himself as he always said. He knew we had a daughter, and he wanted her."

"Did you know Kiera was a super?" Bob asked.

The woman nodded, "She was five when she turned into a kitten. We were so scared out of our mind, but we accepted her as she was, a wonderful beautiful child who could do a remarkable thing despite being deaf."

"As she grew, we started to understand what she could do and we helped her control it. Imagine that! A seven-year-old child who could turn into any animal she wanted. We were amazed, but when we crashed here, we knew her powers were a danger to her if Lothor captured her, so we lied. We told him that she had died in the crash. He didn't believe us, but there was nothing he could do about it."

"And now Lothor has her," Bob said as he ran a hand through his hair.

"Indeed I do."

They turned towards the voice to see a television set had emerged from the ceiling. An older man with shocking white hair stared at them through the screen.

"If you hadn't wasted ten years, Lisa dear, by not telling me where your darling daughter was, you never would have lost your husband," His smooth voice traveled through the room.

"He'd rather die than to let you lay a hand on our daughter!" Lisa screeched from the floor.

"Tsk, tsk, and look what happened to him. He died in vain."

Lisa screamed and pushed herself off the floor towards the TV. Bob caught her by the waist.

"He died for her you bastard!"

"No matter. Now I've got her. She's such a fascinating creature," He said as he turned around to reveal Kiera strapped down to a metal table. She looked so much different to the Incredibles as she was freshly washed, her hair fell in soft waves, and she was barely clothed. The old clothes were replaced with black shorts and bra. A fresh bandage covered her cleaned and sewn wound in her shoulder. Her grey eyes shone fear.

"She's not a creature! She's a human being!" Violet cried as she stood up from her spot on the floor with Jack-Jack. Dash trailed behind her as they stood next to the adults.

Lothor laughed as if it was a joke. He went to stand by Kiera's head. He bent over to lay his elbows on the table. She looked at him and let out a soft growl. He touched her cheek and she snapped her teeth, nearly biting his fingers. He pulled his hand away just in time and straightened up. He nodded to one of the technicians who held a long metal rod.

"Do it."

Lisa recognized the object and she yelled, "No! Please don't!"

The technician laid the tip of the rod on Kiera's stomach and sparks flew as Kiera screamed from the electricity. The rod came up and Kiera whimpered. Lothor turned to the others.

"She's mine."

The screen blackened and the TV went back into the ceiling. Lisa started to sob again as Bob held her in his arms.

"Please, no…my baby."
