Epilogue

5 years later
Katara's POV
"Ready or not here I come!" I shouted playfully. The children and Zuko were hiding from me along with the rest of our friends and family. It was our yearly reunion and it was being held at our palace again. I chuckled remembering our trip to Aang and Toph's at the Western Air Temple for last year's reunion. That was difficult. Finding the children in the old temples of the air benders.
I sighed realizing that playing hide and seek with a bunch of adults and eight boisterous kids was actually troubling. My father and Ursa were sat at the patio laughing at my demise while Iroh served tea. For such an open space to play in they had hidden themselves surprisingly well. I smirked watching a tree tremble just slightly and sent a harmless water whip at the spot where two air benders fell in defeat. "Ah ha! I found you!"
Aang chuckled loudly while his 5 year old son Tenzin pouted. "No! Aunty Katara I don't want to be out first!"
"Oh Tenzin it's alright next time you might last longer! Come on help me find the others."
Within another ten minutes we had managed to find Toph and her four year old daughter's Li and Suyin, who were hidden in a quite clever rock wall created by Toph. Tenzin was smart enough to know that his mother and sisters would do something as sneaky as that. After them we had found Sokka and 6 year old Kai, who were pretending to be bushes. We found it quite funny seeing how Kai was a spitting image of Sokka, mannerisms and all yet graced with Suki's patience. "Dad this is all your fault. I told you being a bush wouldn't work." Kai mumbled to his father.
Sokka chuckled awkwardly and ruffled his hair. "Oh come on Kai it was a good attempt. At least we weren't first!"
Kai snickered and looked to Tenzin. "That's true, Tenzin always loses."
Tenzin side swept a gust of wind beneath Kai's feet and chuckled. "So?! At least I can bend something."
Kai huffed getting up from the floor with a glare. "Just because you can bend doesn't make you better. " He placed his hands on his hips and chuckled. "I know martial arts. Without your bending you would fall to the floor beneath me! When I'm older I'll show you just how strong I can be! Right dad!?"
I sighed helplessly knowing their routine. "Of course! We'll show Aang and Tenzin what non benders are made of!"
"Yeah!" Kai shouted enthusiastically.
Aang and Tenzin smiled knowingly that it was all just playful banter, or at least the calm air benders hoped. "So who is left then?" Toph asked.
Lin and Suyin stood beside their mother apprehensively. The twins were still quite shy, something Toph believed they inherited from Aang. I laughed looking around and realizing how many of us were still hiding. My own family, Suki and her two year old daughter Saki, Azula, Hahn and their three year old son Makoto. In total seven of us had been found and eight remained.
After more searching Suki and Saki turned up hiding behind a wall and soon after Azula was found hidden in the ceiling of the walkway. She dropped down from the banisters and sighed. "I thought for sure you wouldn't find me up there. How in the hell did you find me before Zuzu!?"
I chuckled. "To be honest I'm not sure. Zuko is the one we always find first. I'm quite surprised that he's still hiding with Kya and Hazuki. So, if we can find them then that just leaves Hahn and Makoto."
Azula smirked deviously. "Makoto is a genius when it comes to games like these. He's so cute always hiding away. I think he inherited my stealth!"
I shook my head thinking how on earth Azula thought that with their three year old who had barely started talking. I sighed trying to find the rest of our members. Walking over to the pond I noticed the turtleducks interested with something behind the cherry blossom tree and walked over finding Hahn with three year old Makoto in his lap. "Damnit we've been found." He chuckled picking Makoto up and carrying him over to Azula who gushed over her son.
I sighed placing my hands on my waist. All that was left was my own family. "Kya~ Hazuki~ Mommy's lonely! Where are you?" I waited patiently knowing that there was a possibility of Hazuki revealing their hiding spot. I chuckled at how attached he was to me. "Hazuki~~~ Come on mommy wants to give you a hug!"
Iroh chuckled with Ursa and my father at the table. "Katara I think Zuko's finally taught Hazuki how to be quiet!"
I groaned feeling slightly defeated. "Damnit where did they go?"
"Wow to think that Zuko would last this long in our game is quite surprising." Suki laughed. I rolled my eyes knowing exactly what she meant.
"He's learned it seems. Zuko! Come on we've already found everyone! You guys win!"
Silence was my answer and I huffed. This wasn't fun anymore. In such an open garden there was no way they could still be hiding. We had checked everywhere and hadn't found them. I sighed thinking hard on where they could possibly be.
I gasped and looked around. It couldn't be…
I looked up and noticed Zuko on the nearby small roof with a smirk across his face. Hazuki was in his arms and Kya was holding back her laughter. I pouted seeing Druk next to them. "ZUKO!"
"Took you long enough to notice love. You did good though, it was fun watching everyone be found!" He laughed. Kya finally let her joyful giggle escape her lips as she jumped onto Druk's back and he let her down to the ground of the garden.
"Mommy you found us!" She screamed running towards me. I lifted her up nuzzling her nose with my own.
"You know using Druk to get you to higher places is cheating! Was this daddy's idea?"
Kya snickered nodding her head, "Daddy said mommy would never guess! Hazuki almost ruined it!"
I sighed watching Druk bring down Zuko and Hazuki from the roof and walk towards me. Druk had really grown over the years, and was about a fourth the size of Ran and Shaw. After two years and watching his growth we had expanded the garden enough so that he wouldn't break anything. Regardless, he enjoyed flying around more than sitting here waiting for Zuko to accompany him for a survey of the Fire nation. I pouted when Zuko finally made it to me with a winning smile.
Sorry Katara but you know I can't resist when Kya begs me.
"It's alright Druk. Geeze what a handful you three are." I chuckled. My heart leapt from my chest at how handsome this man was. My husband, and the father of our beautiful kids. "You cheated." I said angrily
"You still love me and you know it." He chuckled pulling me into a soft kiss. The kids shouted 'ew' and 'gross' at our display of affection.
"Ew mommy no kissing!" Kya cried.
"Uncle Zuko!" Kai moaned and his younger sister Saki giggled.
The rest of the group erupted into laughter as we finished our game of hide and seek. My father walked over to us with a big grin plastered to his face. "I knew my grandkids would win! Come here you guys! You too Kai and Saki!"
The four grandkids ran to their grandpa and tackled him to the floor. Zuko pulled me into his arms and kissed my head lovingly. "I think our parents are very happy that they have so many grandkids."
"I think having a total of eight grandkids would tire anyone out." I chuckled as the rest of the kids joined in along with Ursa and Iroh.
I watched them all with absolute love and adoration. The world had definitely grown a lot bigger with their existence and I chuckled not wishing to change a thing. Hazuki walked over to me and reached for me wanting to be carried. "Momma up!"
"Okay okay, come here!" I lifted him up to my hip and kissed his cheek.
"Momma watch.." he said quietly. Zuko and I looked to our 4 year old son who suddenly pulled water from the pond to his hand, making a small bubble and showing it to us with a big toothy grin. "Water!"
"Hazuki did you just…"
"Water bend..." I finished for Zuko. Hazuki smiled pulling the water into different directions before it dropped and splashed him. He broke out into a laughter and clapped his hands excitedly.
"Zuko…"
"I can't believe it." He whispered.
I lifted Hazuki into the air with a large grin. "Hazuki you're a water bender! Oh I'm so happy! Mom Dad, Iroh! Hazuki just water bent!" I squealed.
I ran over to them and let Hazuki show the others what he had learned to do and they all watched gob smacked.
When I was pregnant with Hazuki a year after Kya I didn't have any weird cravings. I ate fire nation food and food from my own culture so we weren't sure what to expect. Even after Hazuki was born with gold eyes we had assumed he would follow after Zuko, that was until a few months had passed and blue began to be the dominant color. I argued that Hazuki was definitely a water bender if not a non bender. However, Zuko and the others argued that he would be a fire bender and that he was just a late starter. I grinned joyously at my son as he repeated the motion once more and played with the bubble showing our family and friends. "I knew it! I knew it! I knew it! Zuko!"
"Okay I admit you were right. I can't believe he's a water bender after all that…" he said happily. "Looks like we got the perfect set of kids." he laughed.
I chuckled and looked to Kya who watched her brother in awe. At a tender age of a year and a half Kya had started to make small sparks with her fingertips and now trained with Zuko. She was as talented as he was and for a moment we were a little worried she was a prodigy like her Aunt Azula. But it wasn't anything to be afraid of. She was like Zuko in every way possible. Calm, compassionate, and focused. Her flames were almost exact copies of his and he trained with her and Iroh every morning. At the age of 5 she was doing exceptionally well.
"Hazuki you clever boy!" My father cheered. He pulled his grandson to his chest and cuddled him.
Ursa chuckled as she looked to the other kids. "Well this is something I never thought to see. Would you Iroh?"
"To see every bender and non benders all together? When I was younger not at all. However after meeting these kids I knew this future was possible."
Aang chuckled wrapping an arm around Toph and smiling widely. "So who wants to bet on what Lin and Suyin will be?"
I blushed and shook my head. "No way. Last time Zuko and I made a bet on what type of bender you're kid would be I got pregnant with Hazuki." Tenzin turned out to be the prodigy so far. At the age of one and half Tenzin sneezed in Toph's arms, sending her flying backwards a few feet. Let's just say Zuko was very, very pleased that he won the bet.
Zuko laughed deeply beside me and kissed behind my ear. "You loved that day and you know it."
I turned to him and whispered quietly. "I swear I will never make a bet with you ever again. I can't believe you did that during a meeting!" I blushed remembering that day all too vividly and my core clenched at the memory.
"We weren't found out so it's all good."
"Like hell it is." I pouted.
Azula and Hahn chuckled picking up Makoto and smiling. "Well then let's not bet on anything but still make speculations. I think with how close they are with Toph they are earth and metal benders." Azula started.
"I agree." Hahn said.
Zuko and I nodded in agreement and Aang pouted. "Oh come on you don't think they will be air benders like Tenzin?!"
Suki and Sokka smiled, "We think they will be like Toph too Aang. Sorry."
Kai and Tenzin nodded and turned to Lin and Suyin who were still attached firmly to Tophs pants. "We think they will be like Aunty Toph too."
"Yeah Dad." Tenzin added.
Kya and Hazuki were in their grandparents arms and laughed when Aang groaned in despair.
"I think after carrying these two I have a right to have my own set of mini me's! Tenzin is a great kid but his air bending can be a hassle." She shot her five year old son a look and he hid behind his dad immediately.
"Sorry mom."
She sighed and walked over to him ruffling his hair. "It's okay. You're light on your feet like your father. Just don't air bend your way out of things."
Aang chuckled. "He tries, but you know you can't. Just because your mother can't see you I can."
Zuko smirked. "Careful Tenzin, your fathers the Avatar don't forget!"
I'm a dragon and he scares me sometimes. You should see him in his avatar state! Druk added.
Everyone had joined into the conversation while I looked at everyone happily. Aang, Toph, Tenzi, Lin and Suyin.
Sokka, Suki, Saki and Kai.
Azula, Hahn and Makoto.
Druk, my father, Ursa, and Iroh.
Then to my own family. My beautiful talented kids and my wonderful husband. A lot had happened over the years but this was just the beginning. I leaned against Zuko's chest and sighed in contentment.
Thinking about all the times ahead of us as well.
