For those not in the know, I am sad to inform you that this is not a story chapter, but rather one that I will update after Harry's battles with Heretic Gods, creating a reference chapter for all of Harry's Authoritielows.
Having received so many reviews, many of which criticised my original thoughts of Harry's acquired Authorities from Saint George, I have since looked back and revised his Authorities. Making them a bit more understandable and with appropriate restrictions, at least in my opinion, while also making it easier for me to write them into a battle scene.
Below are the final drafts for the Authorities Harry has acquired.
Staff of Creation
The thoughts of my heart given shape, given form from primal clay. The power of my soul made manifest, even upon the waters. The words I have spoken echoing into eternity in the darkness. Such is the will of the Creator!
Ptah, the God of craftsman and the original aspect of St George, was seen as the demi-urge and Creator deity of Ancient Egypt. Indeed, the very name of Egypt hearkens back to a twisted greek translation of the name meaning 'Home of the soul of Ptah'. One of Ptah's more famed attributes was that of his unique staff, made up of the three Egyptian symbols of Sovereignity and Dominion. The was sceptre, representing Power, the djed pillar, representing Stability/Eternity, and the more renowned ankh, the symbol of Life or perhaps Form. Brought together into one, they represent Creation, in some form or another.
In addition, it was said that Ptah brought the world into being with his Heart and his Words, much like the Christian Deity in the Book of Genesis, almost like a magical spell had been spoken and cast. In Ancient Times, and even now, words where also thought to have magical properties, whether written or spoken, and many craftsman/blacksmith deities also had ties to these domains, much like Chusor or Kothar-wa-Khasis, deities also part of the progressive transformation of Ptah into St George.
This Authority takes the form of the Staff of Creation that Ptah holds and is a manifestation of Harry's desire to 'write his own destiny' as opposed to his other Authority's 'freedom.'
With it he can literally create something from nothing, completely breaking the law of Conservation of Mass. Summoning a handful of water, creating a plain steel blade, calling forth a blast of flame. All of these are within his power to call forth. He is, however, limited by his imagination. If he unable to imagine something, it cannot be created. Nor can he create 'life'.
Also, he cannot simply 'create' a manufactured object. This Authority stems from Ptah's 'creation of the earth', and as such he creates the 'raw force of nature', albeit it he can create the force in a shape of his making. For example, a steel sword of his would be a simple block of steel in the shape of a blade rather than a block of steel that has gone through a forging process to make it stronger.
He also is required to 'Speak' of what he desires to create, thus rendering him unable to speak halts this Authority in it's tracks.
Unfortunately, this has limited potential against a Heretic God, at least directly. What he creates has no intrinsic magical properties, save for the fact that it is created from magic. He can create an immense anvil of iron and drop it on a Divine foe, but considering their innate mystical properties, it is unlikely that they would be heavily injured as the 'real' world has difficulty affecting the 'mystical', but some damage can still be caused.
Another one of the aspects of it is that he is able to take control 'earth-bound' materials, materials used in manufacture and creation by man, and move them at his leisure. Metal, stone, dirt, sand or even gemstones. All of these materials and others which were 'born from the earth' are able to manipulated, even processed materials like steel or other manufactured objects, in a form of telekinesis, at least to an outside observer.
It is much more powerful than that, however.
With his staff, he can change entire landscapes, shaping them to his will and power. Mountains can leveled, turned to dust, and then remade into it's previous form if he so desired. It allows him to create a battlefield where he is at an advantage and can freely manipulate it with his will.
The downside of this, however, is that it has a range limit and that this function of the Authority also requires that the staff be in contact with the ground and that he is limited to the materials that surround him.
Ascalon
A soldier saving his own life by cutting down his foe. A king that invades another Kingdom to protect his own. The shield becomes the sword and the sword becomes the shield. Stalwart and Sharp. Hard and Unyielding. United together, these two become one and the same.
Throughout his mythos, the God was known as a Defender. Whether it be of a kingdom, an ideal or even just a single solitary person. At the same time, he was also known as warrior, a hero, who would fight to kill in order to defend such things. In time, this then morphed into an Authority that became widely known as the weapon Ascalon.
This Authority clads Harry in plain chainmail armour and arms him with a single sword. Despite the seeming simplicity of this, there is far more to it than meets the eye and is a manifestation of his desire for 'freedom' or 'to be unaffected by outside forces' that he, subconsciously, is aware of having played a role in the creation of his previous living situation.
The sword, which is the main part of the Authority, can be used to 'displace force', transferring a force, or a portion of it, acting on a something to something else. An example would shifting the force of his sword strikes into the air behind his foe, making the force of his strike hit his enemy from behind. Another would to mimic levitation by decreasing the pulling force of gravity on an apple and transferring it to the upward moving force of it, making it float in mid-air.
It is a versatile ability with many applications, if one is imaginative enough and the ability can be used without the sword or incanting the Spell Words, albeit with practice and at a much reduced effect.
However, there is a limit to it's power, no matter how far reaching it may seem to be. This Authority acts indirectly. It acts upon the intangible forces that effect an object rather than the object itself. Nor is it able to create 'force' itself, instead it diverts 'force' from one place to another. An example would be that it can enhance the force behind a sword strike to frankly ridiculous levels, by adding momentum and other things, but it can not make the sword move itself from a stand still without another force affecting it for him to enhance and generate an effect.
The chainmail he wears, however, is made up of individual links that represent 'deeds that have aided others'. Whether it be just donating a coin to charity or saving someone's life, each of these helpful deeds are recorded in the chainmail, creating anywhere between a single and numerous links of chain, though it is to be noted that deeds that include saving another's life or defending another create an exponentially much greater number of links than most. Whilst wearing the chainmail, he is in effect encompassed in an aura of 'absolute protection created from the web of his deeds'. It can be broken, but only overcoming the power that has gone into it's creation, otherwise any attack would be able to penetrate, even mental attacks would be insufficient.
However, despite this power of his sword and armour, his own strength and power is not in anyway directly increased, meaning that when this Authority is called upon, the opponent is in effect fighting someone who is only just above the human potential physically.
There is, however, a way around this.
When faced with an opponent with serpentine attributes, who is above a certain amount of power, or with a foe that carries the title 'Monster', a transformation takes place.
The Absolute protection of the chainmail is instead inverted into 'Absolute Might', infusing his body with immense physical power, even as the links disappear, and the sword gains a powerful Dragon/Monster Slaying attribute and is also becomes able to generate, fire or become spears of power with the same afore mentioned attribute.
However, using this also means he is unable to retreat from that battle and must see it to the end. The transformation also expends all of the links he has created, making him have to start all over again.
So how do you all like these revised Authorities? Much easier to understand I believe.
Also, to all my fans, if you like this story, please go read my PJATO and Campione crossover 'Voyage towards the Stars.'
In that story, you will find my our wizarding protagonist from this story taking a mentor/guide/brotherly role to Percy Jackson, the first Campione in PJATO verse. Though that Harry will be several years older than the one in Veiled Throne, having lived through the events I have planned for this story. so watch out for spoilers if you do decide to read it!
sincerely,
