The first thing Lucy noticed as she felt consciousness creep up on her, was the warm body that hugged against her back; large, muscled arms encircling her trim waist and pinning her to a broad chest.
Her first though was that it was Natsu, sneaking in her room again, and was fully prepared to Lucy Kick him out of her window that he'd probably broken… again. But then, she saw the set of totems resting on her bedside table, and smelt that heavenly woodsy musk that she associated with only one man.
A smile slowly spread across her face as she slowly wiggled so she faced the huge man that held her so tightly. His face was entirely relaxed in sleep. His long floppy hair rested against her pillows, and fell across his forehead, slightly covering the tattoo that stretched across his face. He wasn't wearing a shirt, allowing her eyes to roam across the purely muscular torso. She sucked her lower lip in between her teeth as her eyes took in the impressive abs that rose and fell with every breath he took.
It was then that his arms tightened around her and pulled her in even closer. She giggled softly, making him twitch before settling once more.
'Bixxyyy…' She said in a whisper, slipping one arm free from his iron grip and running her fingers through his hair; relishing in the silky strands running through her fingers.
He groaned at his name, but refused to wake up.
Lucy smirked as an idea came to her and she slowly lent towards his face, her lips inches from his as she gently blew on his mouth, before she closed the gap and pressed her lips to his. For a moment, he didn't respond, but he soon started to lazily move his lips along with hers in a prolonged, chaste kiss.
When she pulled away, grinning, his eyes were wide open and he was staring at her with a look of pure adoration.
'Well, wouldn't mind waking up to that every morning.' He mumbled, before flipping her body to face away from him and yanking her into him.
'Biiixx! We have to get up!' She laughed when he started to tickle her as he nuzzled into her neck, his teeth scraping lightly against her skin and making her shiver.
Eventually, she managed to free herself by falling out of bed, letting out a yelp of surprise as she fell on the floor.
'Lucy! You okay?' He was instantly by her side, and swooped her up into his arms before laying her out on the bed. Her eyes didn't leave his as he pulled the duvet over her body, tucking her in.
'Bix, I'm fine. I can get out of bed you know.' He shook his head sternly, his babies now hovering behind his head before floating to nestle next to her face on the pillow.
'You've been in a coma for months now Lucy. You could only walk halfway home thanks to Wendy healing a lot of the muscle loss. She said it wouldn't last very well, and that you need to slowly be reintroduced to walking and stuff. So do as you're told or else I'll get Erza to look after you.' Lucy paled at the thought, and settled under the cover; staring up at him with a little pout and wide, innocent eyes.
For a moment, his heart stopped at the sight, before he burst out laughing; which only made her pout even more, before sinking in to irritation. He knew if he didn't quit it, she'd try to get out of bed, and so quickly lent forwards to press his lips to hers, instantly making her relax. He moaned into her mouth as her tiny hands ran across his scalp, and before he knew it he felt his body sit on the bed and his arms lifting her upper body to mould against his bare chest.
Their tongues battled for dominance, before she relented and he finally got what he'd wanted for so long. It was as she started pulling him down to lie on top of her, that he snapped back to reality.
He wanted to take this slow. Lucy wasn't like the other women he'd had in his life; there for the sex and then gone, the way he had liked it. No. She was what his parents would have called "a keeper" and he wasn't going to ruin it by introducing sex so early on.
Slowly, he toned down the ferocity of the kiss, before pulling away with a smile at the blushing blonde.
'You stay here Cosplayer, I'll make you breakfast.' She scowled at the nickname, huffing as he turned to walk away before allowing her eyes to sketch an image of his toned back in her mind.
"Lucy! Lucy!" She grinned as his babies stole her attention away from her perfect man, and turned to give each one a kiss good morning.
It wasn't long before the flat was filled with the smell of bacon, eggs, hash browns and toast. Her mouth watered to taste the food, and almost leapt out of bed to grab it from his hands as he teased her from across the room.
'Hey, take it easy. This is the first solid food you've had in a while. Before you say it, I know. Wendy restored your stomach and shit, but she said to take it easy. So eat slowly, and if you feel like you're gonna' hurl, shout; got it Cosplayer?' She glared at him as he pinched her cheek, pulling her face so the fork that was piled with food couldn't enter her mouth.
Finally, after giving a promise that she wouldn't eat too fast, they sat together and ate. Bickslow watched her like a hawk, assessing the amount of time between each mouthful and the amount in each bite.
'Bix, you keep staring at me like that this plate is meeting your face, okay?' He winked at her, sticking his tongue out before focusing on his own meal as she shot him a deadly glare.
As soon as the food was finished, a flash of golden light symbolised the appearance of Virgo, who bowed to the two mages.
'Hime, Wendy-san said you were not to use magic for a time. I shall tend to you till you are fully recovered.' Lucy smiled at her serious, yet thoughtful, spirit and nodded.
'Okay Virgo, thank you. While Bix is washing up, could you help me get changed?' Bix scowled as the dirty plates were thrust into his hands, and stalked out of the room grumbling to himself.
'Hime-sama, allow me.' Virgo easily picked Lucy up in her arms, and carried her into the small bathroom, before placing her on the toilet. In a flash of gold, a set of loose clothing appeared in her hands, and she quickly and efficiently dressed Lucy, before doing her hair.
'Virgo, I'll be back up to full strength in no time, so don't you worry. Tell everyone I miss them a lot, and ask Aries to go easy on Loke for me.' Virgo's eyes widened in surprise at her master's knowledge of the relationship, but nodded solemnly.
'Thank you. I can walk back to bed now, so you go home. You must be tired.' Virgo bowed, before straightening back up with a glint in her eyes.
'Punishment Hime-sama?' Lucy smiled and shook her head, happy to hear the familiar words, before her spirit disappeared with a soft smile on her face.
Lucy slowly stood, testing her ability to carry her weight, and gradually made her way out of the bathroom, leaning on the wall for support as her legs ached slightly from the load they carried.
Lucy glared at her feet, before looking up and locking her eyes on the pink sofa that was barely five metres away. Gritting her teeth, she released the wall and shuffled forwards, before falling into the soft cushions.
She let out a triumphant yell and laughed as Bix ran into the room in a panic, soap suds dripping from his arms. He glared at her giggling form as she hugged a pillow to her chest and looked up at him with mischievous eyes. She screamed as he suddenly flung the bubbles at her face, and shielded herself with the pillow before she was yanked onto his lap.
'I've missed you so much Lucy.' He whispered against her neck, his face buried into her skin. Her laugh died at the sadness in his voice, and she snuggled deeper into his embrace, resting her head on his as her hands covered his own.
'I missed you too Bixy. I'm sorry I made you sad…' His grip on her tightened again, and he pressed his lips against her shoulder.
'Don't be sorry. I'm glad you're here now. But don't you ever leave me again, you hear me Cosplayer?' His voice nearly broke as the thought of life without her in it caused his very soul to quake with fear.
She felt him shaking beneath her, and turned to press her lips against his forehead.
'I promise, I'm not going anywhere without you anytime soon, not if I can help it.' She smiled at him as he cradled her in his lap.
'I love you so much.' He said, his eyes closed as he breathed in her intoxicating scent and allowing the heady feeling that accompanied the smell to take over his mind; replacing the horrible thoughts that had obscured his mind for a moment prior.
'Love you too Bixy.' She told him, giggling as he nipped at her ear before sitting her beside him while keeping an arm tight around her shoulders.
'Okay then, let's watch some movies. I'm bored, and you won't let me do anything I'm guessing.' He grinned in affirmative, and she huffed, crossing her arms, before smirking as she flicked on the Lacrima TV to see a chick-flick line up on the screen.
She heard him groan beside her, and smiled as she snuggled into his body, before settling down to watch rom-com after rom-com while Bix scowled at the cliché scenes before him.
The Next Day
'Good to see you again Miss Lucy!' The fisherman waved at the familiar blonde who smiled at them from the back of the tall, dark haired mage.
Bix looked back to see her smiling face, and felt his stomach clench. Just the sight of her, safe, awake and held in his arms just felt… right. He felt as though he'd become whole once again.
'Bixy! Hurry up! I want to see everyone!' She pouted as she threw her arms around his neck in a hug and rested her chin on his shoulder, pressing her cheek against his.
Bix chuckled and lifted her higher onto his back as he lengthened his stride.
'Calm down Cosplayer. You just sit back and enjoy the ride.' She giggled at his words before taking his advice and relaxing into his secure hold. Her keys jangled at her side, and she relished in the familiar feeling of the metal brushing against her leg.
At Bix's insistence, she'd decided on skinny jeans and a crop top. She relented, only because he was giving her a piggy back to the guild, but she could tell his jealousy was going to become a problem if she didn't reign it in soon. However, she couldn't lie; every time those hypnotic, crimson red eyes of his lit up with jealousy at the mention of another man looking at her, a thrill swept through her body, and her heart slammed against her chest.
'What do you fancy for lunch later on then Cosplayer?' Lucy glared at him for the irritating nickname, and pinched his shoulder lightly before smiling and bouncing up and down on his back, nearly making him drop her from her show of excitement.
'Oh Bixy! There's this nice little restaurant I'm craving! They have the best strawberry crepes ever! Can we go there plleeeeeaaasssseeee?' Bix laughed at her begging and nodded, his babies giggling at her celebrations.
'You got it Cosplayer. Now sit still will ya? I don't wanna' drop you!' Lucy grinned as she snuggled into his large, muscled back; nuzzling into his neck and bathing in his scent that had become so addictive to her.
'I know you won't drop me. You don't want me to need a visit from Fenix or Loke!' Lucy winked at his irritated growl at the mention of her two handsome and rather handsy spirits.
'Got that right Cosplayer.' His voice was low, and made something deep inside of her stir at the tone and the vibrations that travelled through his body as he spoke.
'Love you Bixy.' She whispered with a smile against his skin, before kissing his cheek, making a blush spread across his cheeks.
'Naw! Look at the two lovebirds?' They looked up at the familiar voice, Lucy with a grin and Bix with an aggravated glare. Ever strolled forwards, a smirk across her face sat the sight of her two friends so close.
Ever had missed Lucy a lot, but she knew that Bix more than missed Lucy. He needed her far more than anyone else. Even Laxus was able to function without her, making Ever believe he had a chance with someone else. But Bix… it was as though his soul had left him. His life, laugh, everything that made Bix… well, Bix, had just gone. Till she'd opened her eyes again.
'Ever! How're you?' Ever looked up at Lucy's question, torn away from her thoughts as she sent a warm smile towards the blonde.
'I'm fine thanks Lu. How's your legs?' Lucy rolled her eyes and slapped a hand lightly against Bix before answering.
'They're absolutely fine. He just won't let me walk even a tiny bit.'
'Hey, I'm not that one that fell after walking around three metres to the sofa Cosplayer, so quit ya' yapping and deal with it.' Ever held back her laugh as the new couple began to argue.
'Acting like a married couple already I see?' Evers words made the two mages turn a deep red as their eyes locked on one another, before their heads snapped in different directions in embarrassment.
'Shut up Ever.' Bix muttered, hugging Lucy tighter to him as he sped up and walked ahead into Fairy Tail.
Ever laughed as she heard a loud smash of glass and an all too familiar voice scream.
'AH! THE BABIES!' Entering the guild, she saw Mira passed out on the floor, beer on the ground around her and Lucy and Bix blushing an even deeper red than before.
'Damned woman.' Bix muttered, before ducking his head down and walking over to the Raijinshuu's table, gently placing Lucy down on a chair and dropping a kiss to her cheek before walking to the bar and ordering a drink.
Lucy sighed dreamily as she watched her man strut across the guild, owning the floor he walked on with every aspect about him.
Ever was making her way towards Lucy, before she was grabbed and swept away by two hugely over muscled arms. She giggled as she was surrounded by the smell of bubblegum and peppermint, before turning and giving Elfman a kiss.
Lucy watched the interaction between the now public couple with a proud smile. While she'd been in her coma, Ever and Elfman had grown even closer, and had told the guild about their relationship.
They weren't the only couple newly formed though.
Cana and Bacchus had become official, much to the hatred of Gildarts who plotted the demise of the Drunken Falcon at every chance he got, and was only held off by Cana's threats of never calling him "Dad" again should he harm her man.
Freed had finally plucked up the courage to ask Mira to be his girlfriend, after manning up and comforting her through Lucy's bed ridden state.
Gray had finally admitted to himself, and to everyone else, that he did in fact have a small crush on Juvia, though they were dating on the basis that she would tone down the super psycho love stalking.
Even Natsu had grown a brain and a pair of eyes, and started dating Lisanna. Mavis knows how the youngest Strauss sibling copes with his immense stupidity, but he seems to turn into a puppy every time he looks at her, so that was a step in the right direction.
Lucy sighed as she leant forwards on the table and stared up at the ceiling.
'Why so gloomy Lucy?' Lucy blinked, before recognising the child sitting beside her.
'Oh, good morning First. I'm not gloomy at all though, just content. I'm glad to be back, happy to see everyone so happy… just wondering what I'm going to do till my legs are back at full strength.'
'I'll take care of you, that's what's gonna' happen Cosplayer.' Bix placed her strawberry milkshake down in front of her and took a deep swig of his beer as he sat down. Lucy turned and raised an eyebrow at her new boyfriend.
'Oh really? What about my rent?' Bix shrugged in reply.
'I'll pay for it. I have a load of savings from S-class missions with Laxus. I take care of my woman.' Lucy's brow twitched sporadically, and Natsu was the first to feel the familiar aura.
He whimpered as he hid behind Lisanna with Happy.
'Angry Lucy…' Happy whispered, staring wide eyed at the oblivious Seith Mage sat beside his girlfriend, who was emitting an aura that would make Erza quake before realising what she was doing.
'Oh really? Bixy? "Your woman", huh?' At her dead pan tone, Bix slowly turned to face her, and his face paled as he realised he'd said something wrong.
'Not like that Cos- Lucy. I meant I'll take care of you till you're up and running.' He smiled weakly as she glared at him.
'You'll take care of me huh? What if I can take care of myself, Bickslow?'
Oh Shit… Bix thought. She only ever called him by his full name when he did something really wrong; the last time was an age ago when he'd spilt Reedus's acrylic paints on her brand new white skirt.
'Lucy-'
'Let's get something straight right now Bickslow. You don't take care of me, I look after myself. I'm not weak, and I don't need you to pay for my rent! It's my apartment, my responsibility. You can stay with me, you can help me walk, but you will not pay for my rent. I can work for my place, you hear me?' Bix ground his teeth together. She was being stubborn, and he was not going to let her win this time.
'Lucy, you can't work. You can't walk by yourself. Where are you gonna' work that's safe, and that doesn't include walking around all the time? I'm not gonna' drop you off anywhere where I'm not 100% certain you won't be protected by people I trust!' Bix had stood up and was standing over the clam celestial mage, almost shouting at her as he became absorbed by his protective instincts.
His eyes flashed green before he could clam himself completely, but she just turned and stared up into his eyes, not intimidated in the least.
'Where do you think I'm going to work? I'll work here.' Bix blinked at her words and frowned.
'What about here is safe? Besides, what can you do? You can't work behind the bar, and sitting in the guild writing for Sorcerers Weekly is just as dangerous as going on missions; all we need is for a brawl to break out and you'll get smacked by a table the flame brain or icicle pop throw around!'
I protest was heard from the two mages in question, but they were both quickly silenced by their respective love interests.
'She can work with me.' Laxus's voice interrupted the two from the balcony, and Lucy grinned up at him while Bix glared slightly.
'She's good at paperwork, and Mavis knows we get a load thanks to a certain team known for their destructive nature.
Bix ran a hand through his overly long hair, and groaned.
He knew the glint that shone in her honey coloured eyes. She'd latched onto that idea like a limpet, and wasn't going to budge. She could be more stubborn than anyone he'd ever met when she wanted to be, and he knew that with Laxus and her up against him, he'd already lost.
Sighing in defeat, he slumped at the table and hunched over, downing his beer and waving Kinana over for a refill.
Lucy smirked, knowing she'd won, and sent Laxus a grateful wink, before scooting closer to her sulking boyfriend and slipping an arm around his waist, managing to sneak under his arm.
'Hey, Bixxyyy…' Lucy whispered out, her breath brushing against his face, the scent of strawberries almost making him groan.
'Come on Bixy! Don't be mad at me. I don't ever want to feel inferior to you… that's why I won't let you pay for me. I like to be able to pay my own way in life…' Bix suddenly pulled her onto his lap and stared down at her.
'Don't you ever hint at being inferior to me, of all people. You… you're far better than anything I deserve… I just don't want to lose you again…' Lucy snuggled into his arms, kissing him lightly as she smiled at him.
'Even if you don't deserve me, I'm what you've got, so enough of that kind of talk. Besides, do you see me going anywhere? I'm here for the long haul you big dope.' She lifted a hand and flicked his forehead, making him jerk back slightly, before grinning and launching a tickle attack. She squealed as his long, dexterous fingers made the most pleasurable torture.
'AHHHHH! THE BABIES!' The guild burst out laughing as Mira, who'd only just recovered from her fainting spell, once more collapsed with visions of blonde haired red eyed babies, and black-blue haired babies with brown eyes in her mind.
The couple that caused the meltdown smirked at one another, before sharing a chaste kiss, and the blonde woman rested her head against his chest as she watched her adopted family surround her with love.
2 Months Later
'Are you going to be okay? Laxus said he'd take you home every night, and pick you up in the morning. I've got my communication Lacrima, so if there's an emergency I can be back immediately, and Laxus has his. Call him first, he can get here quicker than me, but you let me know straight after, you hear me Cosplayer? Virgo knows I'm away for a week, doesn't she? Oh, and your rent's due tomorrow remember; do you have the full payment? Do you need a loan or anything? Cause if you do you come to me, not the bank or anyone else okay? I know you hate it but I won't rip you off and I'll let you pay me back-' Bix was cut off by his girlfriend's lips pressed against his. For a moment he froze, before he pulled her tightly against his body and returned her kiss with a groan.
Lucy pulled away slowly, and smiled softly up at her overly paranoid boyfriend.
'Hey, I'll be fine. How do you think I survived without you? Go. The Raijinshuu have missed you, and you've missed the missions. Besides, I can walk pretty well now.' Lucy nodded down to her feet, and smiled up at him as he looked nervously down at her.
'I know… I'm just being weird. I don't like the idea of you being alone… and I don't like the thought of not being with you either…' He pouted, making her laugh.
'Hey, you'll only be gone for a week max. Now get lost and show those monsters what Fairy Tail's made of.' Bix grinned, sticking his tongue out and winking at her before leaning in for one more kiss.
'Hey! Bix! Quit kissing your woman, we've got a train to catch!' Ever shouted from down the road, grinning at her two best friends as they both sent a glare in her direction.
'I'll see you in a week Cosplayer.' Bix said as he grinned at her, walking backwards away so he could watch her rather than turn around and have her out of his sight so early on.
Lucy giggled as she kissed each of his babies good bye.
'You guys take care of him for me, okay?' They cackled and nudged her affectionately in agreement, before flying away to catch up with him.
'Take care guys! You be careful out there!' Lucy waved as Freed and Ever grabbed Bix and dragged him away, throwing a smile and wave in her direction before entering the train station.
Lucy sighed, smiling sadly. She didn't want to tell Bix this, but she was going to miss him more than he knew.
She loved waking up next to him every morning. She loved how he made the perfect cup of coffee for her to wake up. She loved how he fiddled with her hair while reading the newspaper. She loved how he still carried her to the guild on his back, even though they both knew she was well enough now to walk by herself. She loved the smell of his body wash after he'd used the shower. She loved his strands of hair brushing against her face as she slept; cut back to their original length.
Lucy sighed as she turned to walk back to her apartment, summoning Plue to keep her company. As she hugged the shaking dog spirit to her chest, she realised how dependent she'd become on Bix. Not monetarily, but emotionally. He was her rock. He was what tied her down to reality.
She grinned, already planning the meal she would cook for him when he got home.
5 Months Later
'Bix! Would you quit being so pedantic? I'm fine! I am just as strong as I was before I started going on missions with you and the Raijinshuu, so why won't you let me go?' Lucy and Bix were arguing again. The whole guild was functioning under a tense silence, unsure with who to side with in this argument.
Sure, Lucy could walk well enough, could dodge the flying tables and chairs. But everyone understood Bickslow's reluctance to let her go on a mission so soon after they nearly lost her.
'Lucy, you can't go yet. You're not ready.'
'How much more ready do I have to be? Come on Bix! I've been training with you, Laxus, even freaking Gajeel! They have both given me the all clear, and you know Master will only let me g back out there with your okay as well, which I don't get. He odl man probably just wants me to stay here for the rest of my life filling out HIS PAPERWORK!' Lucy turned to glare at his office across the hall, and Makarov cringed slightly.
He couldn't deny that she was right partially, her organisational skills were superior, and she filled out the paperwork faster than either he or Laxus could even after years of experience. However, another reason he'd chosen Bickslow as one of her trainers, is that he knew Bickslow wouldn't let her go on a mission till he was beyond certain she could protect herself from any and all attacks. That man loved her far too much to send her into battle with sub-par strength or skills.
'Lucy, listen to me. Quit shouting, let me talk, for once just CLOSE YOUR GOD DAMNED MOUTH ALRIGHT?' For a moment, nobody dared breathe. No one had ever spoken to Lucy like that, and they wondered whether she would kill Bix or leave him.
Bix was breathing heavily, his eyes blurred form emotion as he stared at her. Her eyes were wide in shock as she slowly sat down, her face blank as she waited for him to speak.
'You… have no idea… how hard it was for me to sit there, and just watch you. I sat there for four months, just watching you breathe… praying, begging every fucking God I could think of, bartering, gambling anything and everything to them… just asking that you'd wake up. You have no idea what that was like, for me, for the guild. I know you heard us talk to you, but that's not the same Lucy, so shut your mouth and FUCKING LISTEN!' Bix slammed his fists down on the table behind her, trapping her in between his arms on the chair, and she stared up at him, tears in her eyes as she took in what he said.
'Lucy… I thought I'd lost you. I thought I'd never see you smile, cry laugh or hear that damned annoying voice ever again. And you have no idea how much I wanted to die at just the thought of that. Life without you would be fucking impossible. You hear me? I wouldn't live. So if I say that you're not ready for missions, it's because I picture one hit getting through the tiny gap I spot in your defence when we spar. I see you back in that motherfucking bed in that soul draining infirmary, and I see fucking tubes pumping food into your body cause you can't eat it yourself. I see Wendy draining herself to near empty to heal you every day, I see Laxus and Ever and Freed and the entire guild crying behind my back. I see all of that, just in that one little gap.' His voice had quieted to a normal volume, and he stared solemnly at her as tears slid down her pale cheeks.
'I can't let you go out on missions, till I am certain I will never, ever see you looking as though you were dead. I saw you die Lucy… please, don't let me see it again…' Bix's voice cracked as he lifted a hand and softly brushed away a stray tear, before he was thrown back by the force of her leaping forwards, throwing herself into his arms and encircling her limbs around him to hold hi closer than ever before.
'I'm sorry Bixy… I'm so sorry…' He held her tight, unable to let her go as his tears soaked her shirt. One hand encircled her thin waist, and the other knotted itself into her coconut and strawberry scented locks, holding her head tightly as he inhaled her intoxicating scent.
'I'm sorry for shouting at you Cosplayer… lost it a little then…'
'No, you're right. I do need a bit more time off… it's just I miss you so much when you're off doing missions with the others, and I get so worried about you…' He pulled her head back and pressed a kiss to her lips, loving her instant response to the pressure he applied, and groaning as her tongue slipped into his mouth.
'I you two are done with your lovers spat, can you go play tonsil tennis in your own office? I need to do some work.' Laxus was stood in the doorway holding a fresh cup of coffee and looking like death from the drinking competition he'd stupidly challenged Bacchus to.
Lucy giggled and sniffed as she scrubbed away at her tears.
'Love you Bixy.' She whispered, pecking him on the cheek before releasing him from her stranglehold and skipping into the office that was allocated to her while she worked on the paperwork load Makarov gave her.
Bix's eyes followed her as she left the room, smiling at the beautiful woman he would never have believed he could ever have had a chance with.
'Yo, Bix. Freed and Ever are waiting downstairs, you're going to miss your train.' Bix nodded, angrily scrubbing at the tear stains on his face as he threw a grin at his friend.
'Hey Laxus, train her up on defending her keys better. That's where I find I can disable her easiest.' Laxus blinked, before realisation dawned.
'Shit. Now you mention it you've got a point. Blondie can't hack losing those, pretty important. Yeah, I'll run her through the mill again. Just you get back safe. She wasn't lying when she says she worries. Damn near won't stop talking about you when you're off on a mission.' Bix grinned, happy at the thought that he was just as much on her mind as she was on his.
As he approached Laxus, he paused beside him, before resting a hand on his shoulder.
'Thanks man. Look after her while I'm gone.' Laxus jerked his head in a nod, before turning to watch him walk away.
Laxus closed the door behind him and let his eyes slide shut, before taking a deep breath and releasing it slowly.
'Damn Bix, you make it impossible to hate you, or take her away. Too damn good for each other.' Laxus whispered, opening his eyes and staring up at the ceiling, before shaking himself out of his self-pity fest. He strode over to his desk, clenching his jaw at the piles of paperwork that greeted him, and stretched out his neck making a few pops sound in the silent office, before sitting and throwing himself into his work throughout the day.
5 Months Later
Lucy stared down at the results, and her breath hitched in her throat. Her hands started trembling, and tears gathered in her eyes before dripping on the letter from the Doctors office.
'Oh my Mavis…' She whispered, before stepping back against the wall and sinking to the floor in shock, her hand clutching the letter falling to her side as she blinked away the tears.
'No… Bixy…'
'Hello Lucy! How are you today?' Mira called out to the celestial mage who walked in through the guild doors on the early Saturday morning. She smiled at the beautiful Strauss sibling before waving a hello.
'Hi Mira! I'm fine thanks, could you send a smoothie up to me please?' Mira frowned, able to tell something was off about the celestial mage, but before she could ask what was wrong she was distracted by Macau and Warren demanded another bottle of beer. Cana meanwhile swiped a barrel from behind the bar, sending a wink to Romeo who pretended not to see a thing as he kept sending furtive glances at a certain Sky Dragon Slayer.
Lucy quickly walked up the stairs, taking in the sight of the near empty guild as she went, and chewed on her lip. Team Natsu was out on a mission, probably destroying half of some unfortunate town of which the paperwork she would have to complete, and Bix, Ever and Freed were also out.
Bixy… I wish you were home right now… Lucy thought, lifting her thumb to her mouth and nibbling the nail as she became lost in thought.
She avoided saying hello to Laxus and Master, knowing they would be able to tell something was off, and quickly entered her office, locking the door behind her.
She took a deep breath and released it, calming her hammering heart, and covered her mouth as another series of sobs attempted to burst forth.
After five minutes, she'd managed to calm herself, and went to sit behind her desk. She quickly became absorbed in the work before her, grateful for the mundane distraction it afforded her from the whirling thoughts that clouded her mind.
Suddenly, an imperious knock sounded on the door.
'Oi, Blondie, open up!' Lucy rolled her eyes at Laxus's voice, and stood quickly.
It was then that a wave of dizziness hit her, and she swore as she started to fall forwards, and only caught herself on the desk at the last minute.
'Hey! Blondie! You okay in there?' Laxus sounded more worried than before, and Lucy quickly righted herself, calling out as she held her head in one hand.
'Yeah, just tripped over, I'm coming!' Slowly, she walked to the door and plastered a smile on her face as she unlocked it.
Grinning up at the lightning dragon slayer, she leant against the doorframe as he stared down at her with one eyebrow raised.
'Mira wanted me to bring you this.' He said, holding out a chilled strawberry smoothie. Lucy's face brightened and she gratefully grabbed the fruity concoction before taking a deep slurp from the straw, and sighing in relief as the sweetness filled her mouth.
'Thanks Laxus.' She said, smiling upa t him and turning to go back to work.
'Oh, by the way, I've got a new training regime for you today, so get down to the ground when you've finished today's papers.' Lucy froze at his words, the news she'd received this morning hammering in her mind.
She spun to face the blonde male and stammered, her eyes staring at him in nervousness.
'Actually Laxus, I don't feel like training today… do you think we could leave it for a while?' Laxus stared at her in shock, her words not really being taken in.
Every day, she yakked and yakked, going on and on to him about getting stronger so Bix would give her permission to go out on missions again. Every time he'd suggested a new type of training that would help her, she would jump at the chance and speed through both her and his paperwork in order to get straight down to training.
'What the hell Blondie? You never "don't feel like it". What's going on?' Laxus's eyes narrowed as she sucked her lip into her mouth, chewing on it. He knew then something was up. Lucy didn't have many habits, but that lip chewing meant something had happened.
He walked in her office, ignoring her protest, and shut the door behind him.
'You better start talking Blondie, or I'm calling Bix straight back home. You know how worried he'd be if I told him about this, so spill it.' Lucy's eyes widened at the threat, before she turned and placed the smoothie down, her back to him.
When she spoke, her voice came out as hard as nails, and emotionless.
'It's none of your business Laxus. If you called Bix back it would be a waste of your time. Just leave it, please. I'm not training for a while, I have a stomach ache. Leave it at that for now, for me.' Laxus stared at her, his mouth open in confusion and surprise. Her back was ramrod straight, and she clearly wasn't going to tell him what was up.
'You know what you're doing Blondie?' Laxus whispered, able to see the fear and uncertainty in the way her hands were gripped into two tight little fists.
She hesitated, before nodding slowly, still refusing to turn and face him.
'Fine. You're not feeling well. Go home, and don't come back till you decide you can tell me what the fucks wrong.' Lucy whirled around, glaring at him, before storming out of her office and exiting the guild; the huge doors swinging open and smacking the guild wall with a thunderous crash.
Laxus sighed at the childish show of temper, and turned to head to his office, when he found himself face to face with Mira in her Satan Soul form, glaring at him with death in her eyes.
'What did you do?' Her voice was low and threatening, but he just sighed and shook his head.
'She didn't like that I sent her home till her stomach felt better. I didn't do anything.' Mira blinked, before turning back to normal and sending him an innocent smile, as though she'd done nothing out of the ordinary.
Laxus sweatdropped at her obliviousness, and watched as she collected the full smoothie glass, before grabbing the papers Lucy had left and stalking into his own office and shut the door with a frown.
Bix had told him to call if anything happened to Lucy… but if he didn't know what was wrong, should he call and cause his friend unnecessary worry? They were on a job only just below S-Class, he didn't want to cause distraction or take Bix away from his team if Lucy was just being hormonal or something.
Laxus groaned and leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling.
'Why are women so damned complicated?' He mumbled, exasperated, before h decided to leave it a couple of days. Bix would be back soon, and if Lucy was just suffering from the wrong time of the month, she'd be back to normal in no time.
Laxus sighed, before knuckling down to get his and Lucy's leftover paperwork done.
3 Days Later
Bix rolled his shoulders and sighed as he walked towards his girlfriend's apartment, waving at the fishermen who had come to know him just as well as they knew Lucy.
'Afternoon Bickslow-sama! You take care of Lucy-san now!' He threw them a grin and a mock salute as he stuck his tongue out in his own quirky manner, making the old men laugh as he entered her apartment.
Just as he was about to shout out a greeting, he heard a noise from the bathroom. Frowning, he dropped his bag on the floor and took off his shoes, before walking inside to see what it was.
He peered into the toilet, and felt his stomach drop to his feet.
She was sat on the floor, her skin pale and coated with sweat as she retched over the toilet bowl. Her hair was in knots, and she was wearing one of his shirts that reached down to her knees. Her hands gripped the toilet seat tightly, making her knuckles turn white.
'Fuck! Lucy! What's wrong?' He was kneeling beside her in an instant, his hand against her forehead checking her temperature while his other arm wrapped round her small shoulders.
'Hey Bixy… didn't think you'd be back so early. What time is it? Eight?' She blinked up at him with tired eyes, bags underneath the beautiful brown orbs making his heart split in two.
'I don't care about the freaking time, what's wrong with you? Are you sick? Have you seen Wendy yet? Have you been to a Doctor at least? I know how you hate getting her to heal you cause she's a kid but you can't let yourself get like this-' Lucy cut him off with a finger against his lips.
'I haven't seen Wendy, but I have been to the Doctors. I went last week, and I got the results from some blood tests back a few days ago-' She was cut off as she hacked and coughed over the toilet. Bix held her hair back, dread and panic welling inside his stomach before making its way up his throat, nearly suffocating him.
'Sorry about that. Anyway, Wendy can't cure what's wrong with me, neither can the Doctors. They said I've got 7 months.' Bix felt his heart stop. Her words echoed inside his head.
'What… what are you trying to say?' His voice was a hoarse whisper, and he stared at her with wide eyes filled with fear.
Please Mavis don't let me lose her… not again… I have to protect her… don't take her from me…
Lucy smiled and looked down at her stomach, tears in the corners of her eyes. Gently, she placed her hands over her flat belly, before looking up at me.
'Yup. 7 months. I'm already 2 months along apparently.' Bix froze, blinking in shock.
'You mean…' He staggered off, his mouth opening and closing in shock.
She grinned at him and nodded, her lip bitten between her teeth, and she squealed as he lunged forwards and swooped her up, hugging her to him as he spun her around, laughing.
'Sweet Mavis you gave me a heart attack! I thought you were going to… don't you ever play that kind of trick on me again! But… Mavis… I'm gonna be a Daddy!' Lucy laughed at the shock and pure joy that radiated off of his face.
'Yes you are, and Mummy needs to get back next to the toilet pretty quickly…' Lucy said, feeling her stomach churn. Bix immediately guided her to the ground, and held her hair back as he stroked soothing circles around her back. He couldn't wipe the wide grin off of his face as she threw up the final contents of her stomach; the only thought that whirled around his mind was that he, Bickslow, was going to be a Father.
'Hey Bix? Can you go to the market and get some beans, crisps and banana?' Bix's eyebrows screwed up in confusion.
'Huh?' Lucy pouted as he picked her up and carried her to bed like a delicate china doll.
'I dunno… I'm really craving it…' Bix grinned and kissed her forehead, before handing her a stick of peppermint chewing gum from his back pocket.
'I'll be right back. You stay right here, okay?' Lucy giggled and nodded, settling under the duvet as exhaustion set in.
Within ten minutes, Bix was back with bags filled with everything Lucy might feel a craving for; he'd grabbed every sort of fruit the market sold, extra strawberries of course; he'd picked up enough vegetables to start his own farm if he wanted, and finally he'd bought a tonne of sugary sweet delicacies that out him back a few jewels, but they were worth it.
He quietly entered the flat, humming happily to himself as his babies flew straight into Lucy. He heard her soft breathing, and knew she'd fallen asleep.
Silently, he entered the kitchen, and started unpacking all of his purchases, a wide grin plastered on his face as the thought of being a Dad finally began to sink in.
Suddenly, he froze and his face went pale.
'Fuck… Erza's gonna freaking kill me…'
4 Months Later
Lucy groaned and stretched, popping the kinks in her spine form leaning over the paperwork so much. She looked down at her huge stomach, and smiled, rubbing her ink stained hand over the bump. She'd quickly outgrown her clothes, and had taken to wearing a lot of Bix's shirts, before finally giving in and buying maternal clothing from stores.
'Hey bump, how you doing? Only three more months and you'll be meeting everyone in the guild; you're going to have the biggest family, and you won't ever be alone. I promise you that my little bump.' Suddenly, Lucy felt something in her stomach, and she froze, waiting to see if she felt it again. When she did she screamed and shouted for Bix. He was only across the hall chatting with Laxus, and they both burst in ready to fight, but all the saw was an over-excited Lucy with tears streaming down her face and a huge smile.
'What's wrong Cosplayer?' Bix asked, wary of her polar mood swings, considering how only yesterday when Natsu called her fat she'd thrown a knife at the fire breather. Sure, she missed, but she had given him an impromptu hair cut…
'Come here, both of you!' Lucy said, flapping her arms in the air desperately. The men exchanged glances, before warily approaching. As soon as they were within arm's length of her, she grabbed their hands and placed them on her stomach. They looked at each other in confusion.
'Blondie what the-'
'Ssh!' Lucy sent him a glare. She didn't want any swearing around her little bump since she'd read in an article that the baby can hear voices and begin word recognition before being born.
'Sorry. What did you want? I don't have the time to stand here feeling up your tummy-' Laxus stopped talking as he felt what she wanted them to, and his mouth dropped open in amazement, before he spread his palm more openly across her stomach.
'See? He's kicking! My little bumps wanting to get out aren't you baby? You want to see Mummy and Daddy and Uncle Laxi, don't you?' Laxus raised an eyebrow, before removing his hand from her stomach and standing with his arms folded. Bix, still thoroughly amazed at his child kicking, picked Lucy up and sat her back donw on his lap; his hands spread across her hug stomach.
'Uncle Laxi? What the hell Blondie?' Lucy blushed, and turned to look at Bix, who nodded at her with a smile.
'Laxus… we want you to be our childs Godfather. Neither of us have any living blood relatives, and my old Team aren't mature enough for kids, and probably never will be. Also, we both think of you as a brother, so it seemed only fitting really. We thought you and Freed, and Ever and Mira. Would you mind being his Uncle for us?' Laxus was speechless. His arms had dropped to his sides, and his eyes were open wide in surprise. A blush spread across his cheeks, and he sniffed, folding his arms and looking away.
'Well, I s'pose I could look out for the brat, teach him how to be a true member of my guild. Doesn't mean it can call me Uncle Laxi though Blondie, so quit that now!' Laxus huffed, before storming out.
Lucy giggled, and interlocked her fingers with Bix's.
'He's really happy, isn't he?' Bix's deep laugh sounded in her ear.
'God damned ecstatic. He's probably bouncing off the walls in his office right now.' Lucy laughed at the mental image of Laxus bouncing off the ceiling out of joy, and snuggled deeper in to her lovers embrace.
'It's nearly time Bix… what are you thinking of calling our baby, huh?' Bix smiled, and nuzzled her neck, kissing her cheek as he replied.
'Anything you want is fine with me love.'
3 Months Later
Bix flinched as another scream ripped through the air.
'BICKSLOW I'M GONNA CUT OFF YOUR DICK WITH FREAKING PAPER AND FEED IT TO YOU- AAAHHHHHHHH!' Bix winced at the threat, and groaned as he rested his head in his hands.
'Don't worry man, Bisca was just as bad-'
'I'M GONNA RIP OUT YOUR SPLEEN AND GRIND IT INTO PASTE BEFORE RAMMING IT UP YOUR FUCKING ASS YOU BASTARD!' Alzack flinched, and took back his words, before quickly running to find his wife to tell her how much he loved her, leaving Bix with Laxus and Freed.
'Damn… that sounds painful.' Laxus muttered, his face pale at the thought of the torture Blondie was threatening his friend with, but by the sounds of it, she was in just as bad pain.
'She's going to hate me…' Bix mumbled, his head still in his hands and his fingers fisted in his hair.
'No she won't, Miss Lucy could never hate you. She just regrets, what were the words she used earlier? Ah yes, "letting you stick your cock inside of her and force her to deal with something the size of a watermelon popping back out".' Freed smirked as Bix groaned, and patted him on the shoulder.
'Don't worry. After she kills you me and Laxus will look after the child.' Bix sat up then and glared at his friend.
'Like fuck you will.' Freed grinned, winking at his overly stressed team mate, before turning to face the room out of which Lucy screamed once more.
'Come on Lucy, you're nearly there!' Mira shouted out encouragingly. Bix rolled his eyes. She'd been saying that for hours.
They'd been all set to get into bed and snuggle up to sleep. Lucy was turning back the quilts, when she suddenly froze, and her hand went to her stomach. It was then that Bix noticed the water dripping on the floor from her legs. He immediately called the guild as he hefted her in his arms and ran all the way there, careful not to drop his precious cargo, despite the moans of pain and the way her fingers dug into his skin as another contraction wrenched through her body.
'I can see the head! Come on Lucy, you can do it! One more push!' Bix stood up, his heart hammering out of control as Lucy screamed again, louder and longer than all the other previously.
He felt the blood drain from his face, and his ears almost bled form the noise.
'Damn… this little guy definitely has his shoulders…' He heard her mutter from behind the door, before she started breathing in time with the contractions.
'Okay Lucy, you just need one more…' It was then that the most beautiful sound Bickslow had ever heard in his life finally split through the air.
He heard his baby cry, for the first time.
'Well done Lucy! It's over for now, just relax.' Bix heard Wendy congratulate Lucy, and Porlyusica bathing the baby.
Absentmindedly, he heard and felt Laxus and Freed slap him on the back and congratulate him, but all he could focus on, was the sight of the little golden soul that had finally entered the world.
Suddenly, the door opened, and Mira stood there smiling; looking absolutely exhausted as she stepped into Freed's waiting arms, before nodding at Bix.
He didn't need to be told twice.
Immediately, he was at Lucy's side, holding her hand tightly in his and pressing kisses all over her face, ignoring the sweat that coated her skin and the tired smile she shot his way.
'Lucy I love you so much. How are you feeling? Are you okay? Come on baby, talk to me.' Lucy smiled at him and gently tightened her grip on his hand, before facing Porlyusica, who for once, was smiling down at them with a bundle held in her arms.
'Say hello to your baby boy.' She whispered, placing the tiny creature into Lucy's waiting, cradling arms.
Bix looked down to see a small, screwed up face, eyes tight shut and little fists raised in the air. His hair was black, with dark blue streaks, like his own; but his skin was fairer, like Lucy's. It was then that the baby's eyes opened, and he saw her honey coloured eyes staring back at him.
In that moment, Bix felt his heart swell, and he knew then that he would give his soul for the two people before him.
'Hey bump. Welcome to the big world, and I know just what to call you.' Lucy looked up at the man she loved, his eyes returning every ounce of her adoration with his own, and smiled happily at him.
'Can we call him Kain? After your brother? Without him saving you back then, I would never have met the man I love today.' Bix felt tears streaming down his face at her words, and looked down at his child, reaching out a finger and letting his tiny, breakable fingers curl tightly around it.
'Kain.' He repeated, falling in love all over again.
He turned to face Lucy and kissed her, before pulling back slightly and encircling his two most prized possessions in a hug, his babies hovering behind Lucy's head.
'I love you Lucy Heartfilia, with every fibre of my soul, and every ounce of my being. Fancy me making an honest woman out of you and giving our son a last name?' Lucy grinned and nodded, kissing her fiancée on the forehead, before sighing and sinking back into the pillows.
From the doorway, key Fairy Tail members watched the scene with tears in their eyes.
Mira was held tightly in Freed's arms, Makarov stood with a satisfied and proud smile, and Laxus handed Ever a fresh handkerchief as her own became soaked in tears and snot.
'Love you Bixy.' Lucy whispered, as she drifted off into an exhausted, and well deserved sleep. Bix gently took his son from her limp arms, and cradling him delicately in one arm, he pulled the blankets up over his betrothed.
Turning to the door, still staring down at the bundle he held, marvelling at the tight grip his baby had resumed on his finger he didn't notice the blabbering group at the door till he looked up at Laxus's cough.
He grinned at them, and walked over, careful not to jostle his snoozing baby boy.
Kneeling before Makarov, Bix allowed him to look upon his son.
'Master, meet the newest member of Fairy Tail; Kain Heartfilia.' Makarov smiled at his child, who'd grown so much since Lucy had entered his life, and inclined his head, before walking to the balcony and addressing the rest of Fairy Tail.
'Brats! We have a new member! Kain is Lucy and Bickslow's son, and as of today, a member of our family! This deserves a party!' Just as the guild was about to erupt into cheers, Makarov held up his hands.
'However, only when the Mother has finished her nap, till then, keep your traps shut!' Makarov bounced off of the railing, and found Bix waiting to pass him the child. Tears welled up in the old man's eyes as he took the precious bundle into his hands, cooing down at the wide, brown eyes.
'He's going to be quite a looker when he grows up.' Mira said, staring fondly down at the child, and picturing the adult bone structure of Lucy and her eyes, paired with the huge, muscular body of Bickslow along with his eye-catching, unusual hair.
'Makes me wish I was his age…' Mira sighed, but giggled as Freed nipped at her ear, before she turned and kissed him happily.
'Hey! None of that around my son!' Lucy's voice interrupted the pair, and they turned to see her grinning at them as she approached, with Wendy helping her walk. Bix was by her side in a second, and set her down on a bench, before Makarov returned her child to her so the baby could eat.
'Hello Kain. You're one of the luckiest kids I know, you want to know why?' Lucy whispered to her baby as Makarov announced the beginning of the celebrations.
'It's because you've been born into one of the biggest, most loving families that exist, and you have a Mum and Dad who love you with all their hearts.' Lucy leant down and kissed his soft fluffy hair, before rocking him in her arms and smiling up at Bix.
Lucy looked around her, and smiled at what she saw. Everyone was happy; smiling, laughing, drinking and fighting as Fairy Tail does.
'You know what Bixy?' She said, looking up at the man that stood beside her.
'What?' He asked, returning her smile with one of his own.
'I think, for all of this, I'm pretty glad Natsu and Gray destroyed those letters.' It took Bix a moment to realise what she meant, but when he did, he grinned and pulled her into a tight hug as he kissed her cheek.
'I'd be lying if I said I didn't agree with you there Cosplayer. Now let's go home, shall we?' And with that, the young family left the guild, leaving behind the celebrations in favour of their own quiet, private party. Fairy Tail could wait. Right now, the new parents wanted to marvel at their single most greatest creation in the silence and privacy of their own home.
