Spyro laid there completely unconscious, movement nonexistent in the purple dragons limbs. He laid there for what felt like hours. Barely moving. And if you could see him. He looked barely alive.
"Spyro..."
He moved his paws around. His senses slowly coming back. The ground was cold to the touch causing him to shrivel back for comfort.
"Spyro..."
He slowly opened his eyes and groaned. His whole body hurt and he felt immensely exhausted. He slowly got onto his feet and winced. Pain and stings where felt all over but he persisted. He slowly looked up to his surrounding and immediately was in shock. He wasn't anywhere he could remember. As a matter of fact he wasn't even anywhere. He was no where.
Spyro looked around in the dark emptiness that was all around him. Unknowing as well as having no knowledge as to where this place is.
"Where-where am I?" He said out loud toward no one in particular. He looked around. Anxiety and fear coursing through his body. He no idea what this place is or where he is. He was alone.
"Spyro..." Spyro immediately perked up and turned around looking for the source.
"Hello...is some one there?" No answer he looked left to right and continued his search as to where the voice was. He was just about to give up when suddenly he saw something in the distance. Among the black void that was the environment Spyro saw what appeared to be a light. It wasn't bright but it was something. He walked towards it slowly and cautious just in case no creature could ambush him. As he got closer the light appeared to be more dark as well as a cloud that surrounded it. The cloud produced a purple glow. Sparks of dark magic flying all off it in small but continuous bursts. He finally approached it and looked at it confused.
'Is this the only thing in here with me?' He thought to him self. He was about to speak but before he could an unknown voice filled the air.
"Spyro..."
He jumped and looked around. But before he could turn any further the source spoke up.
"At long last the purple dragon appears before me." It produced an unsettling chuckle causing shivers to run down the young dragons spine. He turned his head and looked at where it was coming from. It was the cloud.
"Tell me. How does it feel to be the most powerful creature to walk the earth?"
"Who are you?" Spyro said starting to feel unsettled by the dark clouds demonic voice. The voice laughed giving off a cruel noise to the ears that it befalls upon.
"Oh Spyro. It saddens me how little knowledge Zphareia has bestowed upon you." This caught the attention of the purple drake. He immediately got into a defensive stance and growled. Nobody knew about the connection Zphareia and Spyro had except each other. The dark cloud laughed. Seemingly not intimidated by the dragons actions. Spyro grew angry and now completely skeptical of the informed cloud that is in front of him. 'How does he know that? How does he know about Zphareia?'
"I know many things young dragon." Spyro looked shocked he looked at the cloud who gave off an evil gut curling laugh. He couldn't take it. He needed to know.
"Who-who are you?" Fear erupting from his heart. The dark cloud grew and grew until it seemed to consume the whole world. The laughter increased. And the air around him became cold. He shivered and brought his wings close. Looking anywhere for anything that might be here.
"You me to tell me you don't remember?" It said. It then gave a chuckle and before Spyro knew it his world changed into someone's point of view. "Well maybe these memories will remind you." Spyro looked confused but before he could ask he looked up in shock. There in front of him was the horde of scaleless dragons that were charging, before he could turn away in fear a loud roar occurred and a beam of light shot through, tearing apart all that stood in its path. The memory changed then but showed a different seen. It showed 8 dragons battling what appeared a ninth dragon. But again it was through the eyes of the memory. It kept changing and changing and what happened next caused Spyros heart to sink. A large beam struck a city causing fire and destruction in its wake. A young child looking up into the eyes of the memory with fear. Before being struck down viciously and cruelly. A fire raging in a town with apes running around screaming and hollering everywhere. He turner around trying to avoid the visions he was seeing. Each turn though was another and more gruesome one at that. Spyro then turned heel and ran, running as fast as he could away from these horrible memory's. The unknown voice laughed but every where the young dragon went another vision came right in front of him.
"No." Spyro shouted turning around to see another dragon being slaughtered viciously.
"No!" He ran the voice laugh increasing ten fold causing chills to run all over Spyros body. He stopped immediately when right in front of him. A small defenseless family stood bloodied and beaten right in front of him. But before he could do anything. A scream of horror and pain erupted from them as they were obliterated by a beam of light.
"NO!" The voice roared leaving the room only with its evil laughter.
"STOP IT STOP IT LEAVE ME ALONE! WHAT ARE YOU WHAT ARE YOU!" He shouted on top of his lungs. The air went silent and because of that the visions too vanished. The sick twisted voice that was tormenting him gave a sadistic chuckle. Leaving a ominous feeling through out the air.
"My dear Spyro. Isn't it obvious." Before Spyro could explain the cloud proceeded to take shape. Spyro looked on wondering what was going on. After what felt like minutes the cloud finally started to take shape. Two massive wings that stretched farther then his own. Four massive forelegs showed off the muscles of a Titan. A sharp bronze tail that appeared able to through anything. Large spear like talons that cut an enemy in half. A bronze underbelly that showed no beauty only scars. Spikes appearing all over his body what appear to be scales. Three bronze like horns on the top of the head. Two pointing toward the back of his head and one pointing straight up. Four secondary ones that were in between the main horns. But this wasn't what scared Spyro to the core. No this wasn't it at all. Spyro looked all over the creature and stared. Complete stunned and scared for his life. He couldn't even mutter the word but after multiply tries only one word escaped his mouth.
"Purple..."
The cloud cleared up giving a complete view on what was in front of him. The massive purple dragon walked forward towering over the much younger and smaller dragon that was himself. He gave a devil like grin an stared into his soul.
"Isn't it obvious Spyro." He then came close to his face and whispered. "My name is Malefor and I am you."
The purple dragon looked up. In fear not knowing what to say or do.
"No..." The large purple dragon started to laugh causing Spyro to back away in fear.
"No!" Malefor's laughed continued in volume causing Spyro to shrink back in fear.
"That's impossible!" Larger dragon continued causing Spyro to step back. Fear and tears soon to erupt form him. He then put his paws on his ears and laid on the ground trying to get the voice out of his head.
"This isn't real!" The world around him became darker and darker enveloping him in complete darkness.
"No!" The world became less visible the only thing that could around was the continuous evil laughter of the previous purple drake. Spyro feeling completely helpless and alone.
*******
"NOOO!" Spyro shot up from his bed fear and sweat escaping from him. Cynder immediately sprung up from the floor looking around for the source of the sound. Sparx flew off screaming his head off hearing the abrupt noise that caused his arousal. Spyro gasped for air and stared out into space.
"You're awake!" Cynder ran over and swung her paws around him. Spyro slowly pushed her off and got his vision to slowly come back. In front of him was stood a smiling black dragonness who seemed to be beaming with happiness but slight worry. She wasn't wearing her armor like she normally did. The only things visible there were her necklace and wrist bracelets that she always kept around her.
"Cynder?" He asked completely confused and shocked. He looked around to see that he was not in Plymouth anymore but in a hospital. A tray of red gems were over across from him on a counter and cushion was brought in the left of him for what appears to be the obvious reason. Cynder slowly moved back and looked him over. Spyro was looking all over the room. Clearly panicked and unnerved.
"Are you ok? You're not hurt are you?" Cynder said.
Spyro looked up at her. Feeling very confused and unsure.
"Where am I?" He groaned in pain. Cynder eased him back down slowly as to not hurt him.
"You're back in Warfang. You took a beating it seemed when you came back." Spyro laid his head down and groaned. He looked at the ceiling in complete deep thought.
"How long was I out for."
"Four days." He turned to Cynder eyes widen in shock.
"What!?"
"You are fine Spyro. Brutus and Rhegar brought you back. They've been in the city helping out the new flow of refugees."
"Refugees?" He asked looking at
Her confused.
"Yea it was strange. Two days before you returned a dragons came here from Plymouth." Spyro looked up at her wide eyes and all.
"But that's not possible. I-I...no one was alive in that city." He then groaned and got up. Cynder moved up by him and put her paw to his shoulder pushing him down.
"I need to see the guardians. Where are they." He asked urgently.
"They are at the temple but it's ok Brutus and Rhegar told them everything."
"No you don't understand." He got up again but this time pushed Cynders paw away. He got on the floor and started walking to the door.
"Where are you going?" Cynder asked confused.
"I need to speak to them. Can you help me?" Spyro looked to Cynder for any kind of confirmation. After a few good seconds she finally signed and looked to Spyro slightly annoyed.
"Alright fine." Spyro smiled in appreciation. She then got next to him and started to help him out putting a wing over her back.
"Trying to make my friend relax but no. Gotta help out this guy." Spyro gave a little snicker. 'Sure she was being sarcastic but she was being a good friend.' He then felt his heart ting. 'A good friend...' Before he could dwell on it. Any longer a small glowing insect flew in once again looking a little shaken but also annoyed.
"Can you stop screaming like an ape about to be penetrated. You can receive that sentence both ways viewers." He said looking into the distance. Spyro chuckled and looked at his younger brother.
"Sorry Sparx. I promise I won't do that next time."
"Please don't." He then floated and sat down on top of his head tapped him on the horn. "Don't know where you are going and I don't care. Lead the way." Spyro smiled and nodded. They all walked into the empty halls of the hospital, as they got to the entrance the mole at the front desk asked them if they were cleared. Cynder just made an excuse obviously a lie to Spyro but to the mole it seemed far. They thanked the mole and went out side. The streets immediately became alive with activity. The local venders seemed to come back alive after the siege. Moles were running around rebuilding the remaining damage that was still there. And the rest was just a hive of activity. All and all it seemed like nothing even happened here. There was only one major difference though. The city was packed with a wave of new incoming dragons. Everywhere he looked dragons were wandering. Some stayed by the hospital in hopes of some care while others roamed and explored. There was even a large group at the town center near the consul building. It was a large dome like building that housed the government of the city. It had a large spike that pointed to the sky. So high in fact that it even rivaled the temple of the guardians building. But Spyro would have to visit it another day. He had some urgent matters to attend.
After walking the city streets for what felt like hours they eventually found their way at the entrance of the temple. Cynder followed by Sparx, helped him in by being his support. They soon opened the door and walked inside. Once they walked. They could hear the guardians already talking among themselves.
The two dragon looked at each other complexly confused at what is going on.
"Should we go up?" Cynder said uncertainly. Spyro left her support and continued walking up. Sparx and Cynder looked at each other and shrugged. They then followed Spyro up, keeping their distance but close enough just in case he might fall.
He got up the final step and the voices continued to grow. They turned left and slowly moved down the hall. As they were coming to the door they stopped Spyro pressed his ear and listened to what they were saying. It didn't seem it was anything to important. So he shrugged an knocked on the door. The room went quiet but it immediately went away when a deep baritone voice came through.
"Enter." Spyro slowly opened the door and looked in. He turned right and saw all the guardian sitting around a table with a map in the dead center and books and pens scattered all around. A small window was to the left of the room overlooking the walls of the city as well as the consul building. Before anyone could say anything a voice spoke up.
"Spyro? What are you doing here?" Ignitus said caught off guard and surprised. The other three looked at him as well as the same emotions on their face just like the fire guardians.
"Yes what brings you up on your utmost unpleasant, concerning, rather mind bobbling injuries that have been bestowed upon you?" Volteer asked.
Spyro entered the room followed in by Cynder and Sparx.
"Ignitus I need to talk to you all." The guardians looked at each other rather confused.
"Young dragon if this is about Plymouth Brutus already debri-"
"No it's not that. It's something else." Spyro said interrupting Terrador.
"Spyro although I understand you might need to tell us something but we are in a very important situation right now regarding the refugees that have poured into the city." Cyril said matter of factly.
"Please this is urgent." Spyro said. The guardians looked at him. To them Spyro appeared extremely troubled and rather nervous. The four dragons looked at each other and conversed quietly. After a few minutes of this they all turned back.
"Cynder would you mind giving us some privacy?" Cynder looked unsure of herself but then looked to Spyro. He gave a small reassuring smile and nodded and for that she took the hint.
"Ok I'll be outside. Let's go Sparx."
"What? Who said I was gonna listen to you." Spyro looked at him sternly and slightly annoyed.
"Sparx please give us some privacy."
He looked at Spyro then to the guardians who were also giving him a look. He finally gave a defeated groan and signed.
"Alright fine. I'll give you some time to talk." He flew out side with Cynder in tow. She looked back just to make sure he was ok who in return gave a reassuring nod. She smiled back and slowly closed the door. Leaving the guardians and Spyro alone.
"Now then. What is it that you need to discuss?" Ignitus asked. Spyro walked up to a cushion seated behind them and sat. They all turned around and relaxed them selves. Giving their undivided attention to the him. Spyro shuffled his legs alittle. Nervous slightly from their glances busy stiffed up.
"Ignitus... I had a dream of some sorts...awhile back."
The guardians looked at him. Wondering where he could be going with this.
"Oh, and what kind of dream was this young dragon." Spyro relaxed his muscles and signed. Feeling as if he is about to release some sort of big dark secret.
"A dragon contacted me. She told me about...well... A lot of things really." The guardians looked at each other confused.
"What did this dragon say to you Spyro?"
"She mentioned something. The reawakening of a dormant creature called the destroyer." They went paralyzed. Looking at the young dragon as if they seen a ghost. "And that's not all. She showed me a vision. She showed me its potential. It...it was terrifying."
"And rightfully so Spyro." Terrador said standing up and walking to the window. Observing the city from below. Deep in thought with what he had just heard. He then turned around a looked at Spyro sternly.
"When I was younger my village came under attack by a golem. They call those creatures the descendants of the destroyer itself." Spyro watched listening to what the experienced warrior can teach him. " The golem was a tool. Used and praised by the dark armies... It killed my village elders and soon it took my home..." Spyro was silent unsure what to say. He had no idea that one of his mentors had gone through such an ordeal. It saddened him to think that. He came up to the young purple dragon and looked him in the eye. "When I was left with nothing I vowed to myself that I would avenge them. I trained myself day and night until the military found me and recruited me as one of there own. Years went by with out a day of no training. One day though. We found it. The golem. Terrorizing the village creating chaos. It was a vial cruel creature and it needed to be destroyed. My unit and eye fought valiantly against it...most of them fell... " he looked to Spyro and signed.
"Obviously we won. But it cost us dearly. But the point of the story is I believe what you are saying. And if this creature returns. You are going to need all the help you can get." Spyro looked down and nodded. Understanding the situation that has been presented in front of him.
"I understand Terrador...thank you." He smiled and nodded.
"Your welcome young warrior. Was there something else that you would like to discuss?"
"Yes yes the creature that was in your dream the relayed to you this message. Who was she?" Volteer asked in his hyper active voice.
"She told me her name was Zphareia."
"Zphareia?" Ignitus asked. "As in the first purple dragon?"
"Yes...how did you know this?" He asked confused.
"When I was at the temple I accessed the old archives and read about her biography. Young dragon are you telling us that she communicated with you by dream?"
Spyro nodded and for this it caused a smile to form on the fire guardians mouth.
"Why are you smiling?" Spyro asked
"Because this is what we have hoped for." All the guardians nodded but caused Spyro to be puzzled.
" I don't understand what do you mean?"
"Young dragon you have access to one of the most powerful dragons to have ever walked the earth. And not only that. But she can now guide you in your training."
"Yes she will be a vital asset in the battles to come. Ah you can access her at will can't you?" Cyril asked. Spyro looked down uncertain as what to say.
"Ahhh...no um no I can not?"
"What do you mean you can't!" Cyril said annoyed.
"Spyro said she contacted him Cyril so it seems things are gonna be alittle more difficult." Ignitus said he looked down to Spyro who seemed slightly on edge.
"There is more..." They all looked at him slightly confused.
"What do you mean more? What more is there besides this realization?" Cyril asked annoyed but stopped when he saw the distress on Spyros face. Terrador and Cyril looked at each other unsure of what is wrong.
"Young dragon what's wrong?" Ignitus asked concerned like a father is to a son. Spyro stayed quiet, unsure as what to say or do. After a good few seconds he finally looked up.
"I had another dream last night." Ignites raised a brow.
"Oh. Was it Zphareia?" He shock his head, nerves racketing all over his body.
" I-I saw another..."
"Another what Spyro please elaborate for you aren't making any sense" Ignitus said.
"I saw... A cloud... But it showed me visions. Visions saying that these where my memories. But I don't ever recall them." The guardians looked at him giving him their attention and one hundred percent focused. "But the worst part manifested into something. It became a dragon. A purple dragon." As he was saying this concern starting showing on all the guardians faces. " It claimed it was me. It told me his name was Malefor."
The guardians faces lost all color. Gasping in shock of the mention of that name. Spyro looked up concern and anxiety forming in his eyes.
"Malefor..." Terrador gasped
"Didn't believe it was true." Volteer said.
"Impossible only Zphareia could access a dragons dreams from the beyond. How can he do this the dragon is long to have been dead! " Ignitus shouted. Spyro shrunk he didn't know what to say about his situation. Only that it isn't a good one. He looked up at Ignitus unsure of what is going on.
"What does this mean Ignitus? Who is he? Why did he contact me?" He asked with a pleading tone. He signed and walked over to the purple dragon and put a wing on him.
"I think it's time to talk." Spyro just stared up at him unsure as what he should do. Eventually he gave a sign and nodded.
"Okay"
The fire guardian gave grunt and guided them into hall. Leaving the other three alone. They briefly saw Sparx and Cynder who were talking amongst themselves. They saw Spyro and were about to come over but stopped when they saw Ignitus shaking his head. The two stayed put as Spyro was guardian down further into the temple.
They passed many rooms and halls until finally the arrived. It was a large empty room with a pool in the middle. But in the corners were the banners representing the 4 guardians the resigned in here.
"What is this place?" Spyro asked looking around uncertainly.
"This is the room that will give us the answers we seek." Spyro looked around and saw the pool. He approached it and looked it. He saw his reflection. But nothing else. Just an empty dark pool.
"Why is this here?" He asked with. A raised brow.
"This is the pool of visions. Very few dragons have ever been able to see what the pool holds. I just happen to be one of those view." Ignitus gave a slight proud grin but immediately vanished when he approached the pool. "This pool will give us the answers we desperately seek." He looked down at Spyro who was already looking at him.
"How? How can this help me find out how Malefor contacted me?" He asked. Ignitus sat down and leaned into the pool. He focused his eyes toward the water and looked. Searching for anything that may prove to be useful. Spyro took the hint and remained quiet.
The silence lasted for a few good minutes until an annoyed groan escaped Ignitus's mouth.
"It appears I can't see anything that may help us on this matter."
"So what now?" Spyro asked. Ignitus appeared to be in deep thought and sighed.
"Well if I can't help you with this then you must learn how to."
"What do you mean." Spyro asked confused.
"You are gonna have to learn how to access the pool." He said sternly. "It is the only way we can be sure about your visions. As well as learn how to contact Zphareia." Spyro looked at then to the water.
"I-I don't know. I'm not sure I can do it though. What if something happens."
"As long as you are behind these walls and in front of this pool nothing shall happen to you. You cannot be harmed." Spyro looked to his mentor and gave a small sigh.
"Okay...I'll learn."
"Good." Ignitus said with a grin. "Then let us begin." He instructed Spyro to sit by the pool. And gave him the basic rules. "When you are looking in this pool you must keep your mind completely clear. Focus on what you seek. And breath." Spyro nodded and leaned his head near the pool. Focusing on the pure reflection of the water that is in front of him.
"Nothing." Spyro said annoyed.
"Focus young dragon. Do not let things distract you."
Spyro gave a slightly annoyed snort. He focused on the water more. He felt like he was staring at it for hours. He was just about to give up when happened. He saw a light. A blue bright light. He focused more into it looking for what was being presented to him. Eventually it showed a cavern. A small lit cavern with crystals providing the light. In the middle was a pound of sorts and a waterfall in the background. But what got his attention the most was a small podium with a bowl of some sorts. In the center.
"I-I see something." Ignitus perked up but remained silent. Just to not distract him. "I see a cavern of sorts. With crystals and a small waterfall. In the middle is a cavern with a small plateform of sorts." Ignitus's head perked up and uttered something under his breath. Before Spyro could go more into detail. The pool to a different shape. He saw a dark purple glow that seemed to be coming closer to him. He looked deeper into it. Focusing on what that light could possible be. It appeared closer and closer until it finally manifested. A dark ominous glow shone from the pool. But before he could mention it he saw something. A ice dragon was in his view appearing Spyros age. Looking beat up and bruised. Spears and cuts appearing all over its body. Then switched to another. Two electric dragons laying side by side in moving and lifeless. It changed just as quickly as it appeared. A large earth dragon appeared beaten, wings torn and his horn all chipped. 'Brutus?' Spyro thought but it then immediately left. Showing another red and pink dragon. Then another dragon all beaten and all lifeless. Fear and distress was exploding through his chest. At the horrible images he was seeing.
"No" he said under his breath. Ignitus looked up confused. Seeing that he was now on edge.
"Spyro?" He asked concerned.
Spyro kept looking seeing more and more horrible images. He saw dragons and moles life less. Cities on fire apes and death howling. He then saw one he feared. A lone dark dragonness surrounded by many dead bodies. Some of her enemy others by her friends. Her armor falling off, her left eye bruised and in able to open. Her left wing hanging from her body and her paw holding onto her her ribs. In front of her was a large mass of apes and grublins all looking blood lust and eager. She slowly raised herself looking barely able to battle.
"Cynder?" Spyro said under his breath.
But before she could do anything. A large ground pounding crash was heard behind her. She used her able wing to block out the debris from hitting her eyes. Slowly. The dust started to leave but before it could vanish. Two bright purple eyes shone through the dust. The black dragonness looked on in shock and was immediately thrown to the ground. A paw was pressed up to her neck leaving her squirming in the ground. Desperately trying to push the paw off. Cynder used all her might to pull it off but before she could she looked up and gasped in shock. On top of her stood an dark purple dragon. Eyes glowing and dark magic manifesting from his body.
"No..." Cynder whispered."Spyro please." The dark emotionless dragon looked down. Showing no indication it is listening. "Spyro snap out of it!" He looked down. At her showing no indication he was listening. He then slowly opened his mouth a purple light started to shine brighter and brighter from his mouth.
"Spyro please!" She screamed pleasingly, fear clearly coming from her voice.
The light grow brighter and brighter. The dark dragon showing no indication it was gonna stop.
"Spyro!"
"No!" Spyro screamed as the light engulfed the pool he drawed back not wanting to see what this pool had to offer anymore. Ignitus stood up seeing Spyro looking completely shaken and afraid.
"Spyro what happened?! What is wrong!?" He asked completely concerned.
Spyro stood there, trying to calm his nerves down. He slowly controlled his breathing and closed his eyes, focusing on calming down.
"I'm fine...I'm fine." He said mostly to reassure himself.
Ignitus skeptical of his answer decided not to press it. Knowing this would only stress the young drake out.
"What did you see?" Spyro calmed his nerves a little and decided to answer.
"I saw...I don't know... It was a cavern of sorts...crystals lit it up and there was a podium... I-Ignitus what did that mean." Ignitus was deep in thought but after awhile he came to a realization.
"The falls..." Spyro looked up at him unsure with what he means.
"Umm...the falls?"
"Go find Cynder bring who ever you feel is deemed fit for this. You are going on a mission."
"But I-Ignitus!" Before he could say anymore he the fire guardian left. Leaving to go inform the others of Spyro discovery. He sighed alone with his thoughts.
'What happened? What did I just see?' He looked to the pool and gave a small shutter. 'I guess I'll go look for them.' He slowly left the room looking back only once. But before he left he could of sworn he saw a slight glow coming from the pool. He groaned and left. Walking down the hall in search of Cynder.
'Well I guess it's time to head out again.'
