Chapter 3

General POV

Beep, beep, beep! Beep, beep, beep!

Tucker woke up with a yawn, and looked over to the alarm clock on the dresser. He groaned when his sleep addled mind realized he had to get up to turn it off. With a few muttered curses Tucker began to get up, when the blaring alarm came to a halt. Looking back towards the dresser, he saw Danny, shirtless, with a damp towel draped across his shoulders, black skinny jeans half undone, one hand combing through his wet hair, and the other pulling back from shutting off the alarm. "Hey dude." Tucker waved lightly, "What are you doing up so early?" he continued, looking at the clock that now read 5:03 AM.

"Couldn't sleep. 'Sides I'm usually up earlier for patrol." Danny mumbled in return. "Anyone else awake?"

"I don't know, you tell me; you're the one with the 'acute sense of hearing'. Shouldn't you know when they're awake?" You could hear the teasing amusement in the techno geeks voice from a mile away while he said it.

"Oh, shut up. It was all I could come up with at the time." Grumbled Danny. "Besides, they bought it..." he trailed off with a light blush, at remembering one of the many poor excuses he'd told his parents when they got to close to his secret for comfort.

"Ah, I swear, sometimes the people in this town are so dense." As if just realizing he'd called his best friends parents 'dense', Tucker backtracked with a, "No offense dude."

"None taken. I'm still shocked they haven't figured it out. Sometimes I feel like they already know... like they're just denying it. Like they wouldn't want anything to do with me once they admitted it." Danny said softly, with a frown on his lips.

Tucker looked at Danny mournfully. He knew about Danny's fears of rejection. They all did. After all, they're the ones who have to sit up with Danny late at night, after he's woken from yet another nightmare about his parents, his own flesh and blood, turning on him because of what- no, who- he is. Luckily, they've only had to actually deal with it once; that was when Valerie found out.

She'd been furious.

There'd been lots of yelling and cursing. And crying. That was mostly Danny though, when he went into the panic attack. Though it'd been almost a year ago, Tucker remembered it like it'd happened yesterday...

"Phantom!" The Red Huntress yelled across the night sky as she spotted her target, gun in hand.

"Oh, hey there Red." Phantom said with a nonchalant wave of the hand. If you knew what you were looking for though, you'd see the way his eyebrows furrowed in worry at the sight of the unfamiliar weapon in the Huntresses tight grip.

Without hesitation, Valerie raised the gun towards her target. Towards Danny.

Sam and I watched from a dark alley as Valerie unknowingly shot one of her closet friends in the chest. We gasped as Danny was hit. Then we screamed as he fell from the sky, writhing in pain from the shot. "DANNY!"

Valerie looked downwards at the shout, and saw Sam and I rushing forwards from the alleyway. Towards the ghost. Needless to say, she was confused. "Get away from there!" She screamed at us, as she flew closer to the scene. However, once she got close enough, she saw something she would never be able to unsee.

Danny Fenton.

Writhing on the ground, silent tears falling from his now sky blue eyes. Sam and I on the ground next to him, trying to find a way to help ease his pain. Sam swiped his black hair away from his face, while she cupped his cheek with her other hand. Looking into his pain ridden eyes, she said, "Danny? Danny, you're gonna be okay. It's gonna be okay, we'll fix you right up like always, okay?" Sam looked like she was fighting back tears as well.

I turned towards Valerie, enraged at what she had done. "Happy now?! You finally got your ghost!" I yelled at her, though she didn't react. "What the fuck did you shoot him with?" I tried again. But she just continued to stare at Danny with what I assumed to be horrified awe. "Valerie! Answer me!" I yelled again.

That seemed to snap her out of her trance. She whirled on me faster than the bullet that had shot Danny. "Wha- what did you just call me?"

I didn't respond at first. I knew how big of a revelation this was for her; as far as she knew, nobody knew her identity except for Vlad and herself. Danny let out another pained whimper from behind me, and I snapped back to action. "Valerie. I called you Valerie. We know." I whispered. She lowered the helmet on her suit.

"How long have you known?" She asked quietly.

"Never mind that, we'll fill you in later." I said urgently. "Now, what did you shoot him with?!" My voice raised slightly.

"I-it was a bullet made out of anti-ectoplasm, it's designed to eradicate the ectoplasm that makes up a ghost's form, I-I made it myself." She said in a frantic rush. "Now how long have you known about me?" She switched back to the topic of her identity, but I'd already turned back to Sam and Danny, trying to figure out what the hell an anti-ectoplasm bullet could do to a half ghost. "Tucker! It's your turn to answer me now!" She called furiously.

I turned back to her, an incredulous look on my face, "Are you kidding me?! Danny could be fucking dying right now and you wanna know how long we've known your secret?!" I screamed right back at her. "She looked away from me, ashamed. "We'll answer whatever the hell you want us to later. But right now we need to help Danny."

A fierce look entered her eyes, and she nodded as she raised her helmet, becoming the Red Huntress once more; she activated her hover board and flew off to where I hoped she had some sort of an antidote. What felt like hours later, but was probably only minutes considering how fast she was flying, Valerie returned. She hopped off her hover board, and ran towards us with a needle in her hand. She then stabbed said needle into Danny's thigh before either Sam or I could react; Danny had passed out some time ago, luckily enough, because that needle looked like it had hurt. "There, I helped. Now tell me what you know." She demanded.

"What'd you inject him with?" I asked hurriedly.

"Stop avoiding the fucking question, Foley! What do you know?!"

"I'm not avoiding anything. I'm just more concerned with my best friend that youshot!"

Valerie looked close to hysterics now, which considering tonight's events was no big surprise. "I didn't know he was- if I had I never would hav- I-." She couldn't even finish her sentences she was so distraught.

"I know you wouldn't have Val." I said softly, attempting to comfort her now that the situation had died down some. I might have felt slightly bad for yelling at her too.

She gave me a weak, yet thankful smile. "God. I just. I didn't mean to hurt him. Danny, that is." She paused, then continued speaking, as if she was thinking out loud, and not actually talking to me. I let her since I knew she was just trying to work through things, even if I was worried about some of the things she was saying to herself, "I meant to hurt Phantom. He ruined my life, and he's just a worthless ghost. He deserved it." She looked conflicted, like she didn't know if she could still believe her own words. Now, I knew she was just confused, and doubting herself, but to someone who was pretty loopy, and just joined the conversation? Those last few sentences sounded pretty bad. I knew I should have told her to work it out later the second I heard a fearful gasp. I turned my head, and saw a livid Sam helping up a wide eyed and fearful Danny.

Valerie, and I turned to face Danny and Sam; the sight before us was a truly heartbreaking one. Danny's face was an ashen white, and there were tears falling down his cheeks from his already red-rimmed eyes, his mouth opening and closing slightly like he was trying to say something but couldn't.

"Danny, NO, I-I-I didn't mean it like that! I'm so sorry..." Valerie trailed off as she realized Danny was lost in his own world of panic.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Danny chanted over and over again, his breathing starting to stutter.

'Crap, he's freaking out, and oh-' I stopped thinking to myself, and continued aloud, "Shit! He's hyperventilating." I crouched down next to my best friend, and tried to help Sam calm him down.

"I guess that's what happens when you wake up to two of your closet friends plotting your demise." Growled Sam, as she rubbed Danny's back in what I assumed was meant to be a comforting pattern. "Danny. Danny. Danny! I need you to calm down and listen to me. Valerie didn't mean it, you know that. She was just shocked, and talking out loud. She didn't mean it. It's okay, you're okay. You're gonna be okay. She didn't mean it." She pulled the sobbing mess, that was our best friend, into a hug as she continued to whisper reassuring words into his ear. "Right Val, you didn't mean it?" The look Sam threw Valerie as she said this could have cut threw steel.

I watched as Valerie stepped forward, and kneeled beside us on the ground. "I didn't mean it. Danny. I swear to God I didn't mean it."

Despite her words, Danny still wasn't calming down. Valerie must have noticed this, for the next thing she said shocked me to the core, and snapped Danny right out of his panicked haze. "Danny, let me make it up to you. I want to help. Tell me how I can help." When she said that final sentence… that fierce look I'd seen in her eyes earlier?

It had returned.

And I knew she meant it.

But they were past that now; Valerie was in on the secret, and she accepted Danny. Just like they all knew his parents would, when they inevitably found out. If only Danny would listen to them whenever they told him this though.

"Danny we've been over this," Tucker began softly, "your parents will accept you if they find out. You're their son, and they love you. They won't turn their backs on you; none of us will."

At Tucker's words, Danny gave a small smile of gratitude. "I know they won't. I just can't help worrying about it anyways though."

"You're both gonna have a lot more to worry about if you don't shut up and let me go back to sleep." A groggy voice hissed from behind the two boys. They turned around and saw Sam sprawled out on her portion of the bed, her face set into a glare.

"Hey there, sleepy head. Sorry we woke you up." The raven haired teen said softly, with a gentle smile.

"Yeah, whatever." Grumbled Sam, "What were you guys talking about anyways?"

The two boys shared a look, and silently agreed not to say anything about their conversation; there was no point in getting into it with Sam anyways. She'd just say the same thing Tucker did.

"Just guy stuff." They said in unison.

Sam looked at her two boys in disbelief, "You honestly expect me to believe that?" Her voice was more alert now.

Tucker shrugged, "Nah, not really. But hey, we're entitled to a little privacy, are we not?"

"I suppose." Sam sniped in return.

"Thanks." Came Danny's sarcastic response, "You two gonna go back to sleep? Or you gonna stay up?"

Sam and Tucker shared a look, "Well someone's gotta keep an eye on you, don't they?", the two said together.

With a slight smirk on his face, Danny replied, "Oh, I think it's more the other way around."

The three best friends smiled at one another.

About an hour and fifteen minutes later

"Ugh, Jazz, hurry up already. Some of us still have to shower!" Tucker shouted through the bathroom door.

"Go use Danny's shower! Besides, you were up earlier than I was, why haven't you already showered?" Jazz fired back from behind the closed bathroom door.

"Valerie's in his! And I was busy earlier, that's why!"

Jazz sighed in annoyance, "Fine, I'll be out in a bit!"

"Thank you!" Tucker shouted back through the door.

Tucker was leaning against the hallway wall, toiletries and a spare change of clothes in hand, when Danny came trotting up the stairs fully dressed in a white, long sleeved shirt, black skinny jeans, and black converse.

"Jeez, dude, you're still not ready?"

"Your sister takes forever."

Danny chuckled a bit at that remark, "Yeah, I know."

The bathroom door opened while the boys were laughing with each other, and out stepped Jazz in a classy light blue blouse, with white jeans, and black ballet flats, her hair tied into a bun on the top of her head.

"The bathroom's all yours." She said with a wave of her hand.

"Better still be some hot water left." Grumbled Tucker, as he walked into the bathroom, and shut the door behind himself.

"There's not!" Jazz sing-songed to herself quietly as she made her way to Danny's room where Sam was triple checking all of their supplies. Danny followed after her.

Hey guys! I finally posted an actual chapter... it's about time. Sorry it took me so long, but I got my new laptop and got chapter 3 rewritten. Sorry they didn't go into the GZ this chapter like I said they would- that flashback was a lot longer than I had intended it to be and took up a large portion of the chapter, so they will hopefully definitely be going in chapter 4. I can't be sure though, because as I was retyping the chapter I got some new inspiration and so a lot of things are being added to it, and I don't want the chapters to be too long. Or would you guys prefer longer chapters? Please do leave your thoughts in a review!

-Zoxy

PS- Sorry the chapter ends so randomly, that's just the only spot in the chapter I felt could be kind of a calm, normal ending, that at the same time made it obvious what's going to be happening in the next chapter :)

PPS- I hope you guys liked my explanation behind Valerie joining Team Phantom.

PPPS- Also in my "brief hiatus" I've had many plot bunnies hopping around my head, for many different fandoms, so if anyone likes Young Justice, Maximum Ride, Teen wolf, Charmed, Disney's Descendants, Harry Potter, Stranger Things, Grey's Anatomy, The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Lucifer, Once Upon A time, Revenge, The 100, Naruto, The Seven Deadly Sins, Attack on Titan, Supernatural, Shameless, and even more Danny Phantom... I have some stories in the works! However, I will not be posting any of them until I can get myself on track for this story, so have no fear, I'm not going to get even more distracted from this fic than I already am! Okay, bye now! :) :) :)
