See? Told ya this chapter would be coming a lot faster than usual. XD Okay! Chapter 24, here we go…

Chapter 24: Flightless

Although my long conversation with Kitty, Bobby and Professor helped, especially since Professor temporarily halted my danger sense from alerting me of other people's dangers, I still couldn't sleep. Even with Kitty assuring me that they were going to find a way around my Overlapse Mutation, I still had trouble believing her statement. Professor said so himself back in the Danger Room that I'm a hazard to myself, and to everyone around me.

Knowing that I'm still an X-Man is comforting, but still troubling. I couldn't describe it, but I had an unsettled feeling in my stomach. I couldn't sleep when I still had a thousand thoughts zipping back and forth through my head. I had only closed my eyes for five minutes before I decided that I really needed to clear my head if I wanted to get any sleep at all; and I decided that the best way to do that, was to try out something that I had only gotten the hang of in the midst of danger; flying. The only times I had done it was when my danger sense took over in order to save someone on the other side of the city. It's a bit risky to try it by myself for the first time, but what else is new?

After summoning my exoskeleton leg and putting my entire costume on (hoodie, gloves belt, boots and all), I opened the window, then placed my hands on the windowsill, feeling the tiny particles of dust from the surface stick to my palms as I pushed myself up, bringing both my feet onto the windowsill, allowing me to fully stand in the window besides having to crouch slightly in order to avoid hitting my head off of the top of the frame. As I stared out into the darkened sky, and the three-story drop below me, I took a second to think to myself about what I was about to do:

I'm about to try flying. Again.

Funny, that's a sentence I never thought I'd ever say or think seriously…Or so casually.

My thought process during the first few moments of doubt was nearly identical to the first time I had mindlessly jumped out of my window to fly; shouldn't I just go to sleep? Of all times, why would I try flying again this late at night?

I quickly pushed the doubts aside. With everything running through my mind right now and all these insane things that's been happening, I need to clear my mind before I can get any sort of rest. Why not now?

Besides…I just really want to fly again.

I looked down at the ground below me one last time, sucking in one more breath, outstretching my arms…And taking a step forward, onto air.

I feel gravity immediately pull my body to the ground, and my instincts kick in just as quickly. I feel myself focus the power of my telekinesis in the blink of an eye, feeling the invisible force begin to support my entire body. Soon enough, I'm lifted up even higher, and I'm guiding myself through the sky, away from the school.

I'm flying. AGAIN.

I couldn't help but smile as I felt the wind rush by, the loose strands of my hair flapping wildly in the air while my ponytail bounces around the back of my head. My telekinesis was holding me up on instinct; I knew that my danger sense wouldn't allow me to fall, which gave me instinctive control for the moment. For once, I wasn't flying in order to save someone; I was flying for the hell of it. And it felt great. Almost like how a dog feels when they stick their head out the window of a speeding car. Having the wind blow in your face, being so high up; I felt literally on top of the world. For a brief shining few moments, I felt carefree, which is something I haven't experienced in what feels like a while.

The only things illuminating the night sky were the stars up above and the street lights below me. I watched as I flew past the trees, the streets and the buildings below. Everything looked smaller from up here. I felt myself pick up speed, which made everything into a bit more of a blur. I felt the wind whistle through my teeth as my smile was glued to my face.

This is awesome. I could get used to this.

A few minutes passed, and I eventually decided that, although this had been fun, I really needed to get back to my room and get some sleep. I felt myself turn up the concentration a bit more as I focused my telekinetic power so that I could slow down, doing so until I was no longer moving and simply suspended in the air, still high above the ground. I twisted around to face the opposite direction, and began to focus my power again to propel myself forward, back towards the school.

I barely moved forward more than one foot when I was stopped mid-air.

I didn't stop on purpose; I just stopped. I tried to push myself forward, but I literally felt something holding me back. I looked over my shoulder as if trying to see what was going on. I could feel something holding my right leg back. The only way I can describe it is that it was like an invisible rope had been attached to my leg, and it was keeping me in place.

"What the he—"

I couldn't even finish muttering my three-word sentence before I felt myself get pulled. The indescribable force that held my leg went from holding me in place to pulling me down towards the ground. Where—or who—is this force coming from, and why is it only pulling on my leg?!

I immediately began to push my telekinesis even further, pushing myself in the direction I really wanted to go, but the force kept pulling my leg back. I was fighting in a tug-o-war. The force kept pulling me away. My teeth began to grind as I felt the two conflicting forces resulting in pain settling in my leg. The force was strong; too strong. By fighting against it, it was only damaging my leg by continuously being pulled in opposite directions.

My danger sense went from a minor tingle to feeling like an alarm blaring in my head, telling me I needed to fight against this force. I was losing. My body began to fall more and more, getting pulled downwards towards the ground with each passing second. I tried to fight against it, to pull myself back up and fight against the force, but I had already exhausted myself; the pain in my leg was growing, and the strength of this force wore my telekinesis down too quickly; but giving up was never an option for me. It reached the point where I was barely putting up a fight at all, and I was pulled down towards the ground even faster than before. The grass of the open field below me drew closer and closer, when I had been at least thirty feet in the air before. Just before I could hit the ground, my instincts kicked in, and I outstretched my arms, concentrating my telekinesis under me in order to cushion my fall. I hit the grass, succeeding in cushioning my fall, but unable to stop myself as my momentum from the fall caused me to land with a roll, having to stop myself by digging my elbows into the ground.

I allowed my forehead to rest against the grass for a moment as I tried to catch my breath, my breathing heavy and clearly audible. What the hell just happened?

It took me a second before I pushed myself up from my elbows to my hands, then rolled over to a sitting position, brushing the grass off of my hoodie and my sleeves and the front of my pants before putting a hand on my forehead as I tried to recollect myself; Until my eyes eventually drifted over to the leg that had been pulled by the mysterious force; my right leg. My broken leg. The leg that had my exoskeleton fastened around it, which allowed me to walk.

I realized that it felt a little looser on my leg now, and upon closer inspection, the toe of it was slightly dented. This force didn't pull me by my leg; it pulled me by the exoskeleton containing my leg.

The metal exoskeleton.

Who did they say was the leader of the Brotherhood again?

I hear footsteps approach me, until a pair of someone's purple and red boots appear in my line of vision. I almost slide back a little as a look up to see the rest of this person's body; a man, wearing a costume entirely red, with a purple belt, boots and gloves, a purple cape swaying back and forth in the gentle breeze, and most notable of all, a metallic helmet that followed the same colour scheme, only exposing his eyes, nose and some of his mouth.

His eyes were almost scary as he stood tall, towering over me as I still sat on the ground, in awe and confusion. "Trinity Villamore. A pleasure to finally stand before you," he finally spoke, sounding casual as if I hadn't just been pulled out of the sky.

Who else could've pulled me down by my metal exoskeleton? My eyes widened as memorization and realization hit me like a runaway locomotive.

Crap.

I felt my eyebrows furrow, opening my mouth to make my conclusion.

Crap. I should've just went to bed.

"You're Magneto."

And that's the chapter! I know this one is shorter than the usual, which is why I finished this one much faster than usual. XD I was originally gonna add this part to the end of the last chapter, but I decided to make it a chapter of its own since 1) the last chapter was long enough as is, and adding this part would've made it longer than it needed to be, and 2) I thought adding this part to it seemed unneeded, and making it a chapter on its own seemed better.

Thanks so much for reading, and hope you enjoyed this chapter! Don't forget to follow and favourite if you're enjoying it enough, and also leave me a review to give me some feedback! I love getting any kind of feedback and comment! :-D I'll be working on the next chapter ASAP!
