A/N sorry about the wait my phone (where I save the chapter) stopped working. Thankfully it's fixed now do I can update. Well I'll rap it up here since you guys probably just want to get to the story so... I am not Rick Riordan and I do not own the PJO world. With that said let's start!
"Let the games begin!"
Rachel POV
After those words are spoken a roar is applause from the crowd erupts. I turn to look at Octavian so we can figure out the riddle to together to find he has already taken measures into his own hand.
"Don't worry Rachel, I got this!" He yells confidently as he begins to attack the monster. The metallic animal turns it's head and shoots fire at the Roman.
"Octavian, you idiot! We need to solve the riddle first!" I exclaim, already half considering asking for a new partner.
Quickly I roll the paper as Octavian, who is hovering over my shoulder, pats down the last flames off his hair.
On the scroll there are words written in neat cursive and I read them aloud.
"A container that takes no keys," I say quickly glancing up at the mechanical monster that stays standing on it's platform. "But a golden delight lies within me."
I frown realizing that the whole riddle. I was expecting something more... Complex? Confusing? Longer? I'm not sure but the answer is still not obvious. Annabeth was probably the one who wrote the riddle, just my luck.
I look at Octavian and see he by the scrunched up eyebrows and narrowed eyes, he frustrated with trying to find the answer.
Reyna and Nick seem to be doing as well as we are, except Nico raised a couple skeleton that are currently being toasted by the monsters fire.
I turn to look at our own monster and see something one slip out of a compartment from inside the machine. I squint and see that's it's oval shaped. Egg shaped to be more specific. Suddenly the pieces fit together.
"That's it!" I exclaim, hitting Octavian from the excitement. Octavian, who was probably not expecting to be hit by his own partner, stumbles slightly.
"What was that for?" He asks with a scowl.
"I figured out the riddle!" I shout whisper, not wanting Reyna or Nico to hear. "The answer is an egg!"
"An egg?" He asks his eyebrows once again furrowing in confusion. "Are you sure?
"I'm positive! See look at towards the back of where the monster is standing," I explain, indicating to where the egg is. "I think when he have crack open the egg!"
He contemplates it for a few moments before answering, "I guess it's worth the try. I go get it."
"No!" I say, putting my arm out to stop him.
"What? Why not?" He questions pushing my arm down.
"Because when you tried to attack it you nearly got burnt." I explain hoping my concern for his well being can be seen in my eyes.
He moves closer to me as he answers, "Well I can't let you get hurt!"
I to take take a yep closer as I reply, "Yeah? Like when you wanted to keep me safe by bringing your armies here?"
I suddenly regret saying that as he face falls, "Please?" He pleads.
I shake my head as I turn towards the monster, ignoring Octavian's protests.
As I approach the contraption, it doesn't spare me a glance until me eye land on the egg. Suddenly I have it's full attention.
As I begins to open it's jaws I realizes it's about to shoot an sprint out of the way, closer to the egg, narrowly missing the flames.
I look down realizing the egg is right in front of me. I shuffle down to a position where the monster can't see me, with the help of Octavian distracting it.
I take my knife into my hand and cut a circle in the egg, just as if I am painting. When the circle is made I push and the shell falls in. Cautiously, I peer inside.
At the bottom of the foot tall egg is a sort of golden hand like thing with a point at the end. Like a knife but... Different. Hesitantly, I reach inside and pull it out.
The second I touch the golden object a hatch on the bottom of the machine opens up, just about the size of the golden thing. I smile to myself realizing what this means.
I weigh the golden object in my hand getting a feel of it and realize it's about the same size as my blue hairbrush.
Concentrating, I pull my arm back and take a deep breath and aim.
But of course my luck wouldn't let me hit it the first time as the object came bouncing back to me.
I sigh in frustration as I take aim once again, this take with the golden object going into the hatch.
After a few moments the machine comes to an abrupt halt a couple seconds later, Reyna and Nico's stops too.
"Well ladies and gentlemen, it was close but our winner for the first event is Rachel and Octavian!"
