Chapter 20: Epilogue

THREE YEARS LATER

The purple sky hung over the blue mountains. The sun would rise in just a few minutes. Jenny motioned for Thalia to come close. "You get the people through the pass and I'll hold off the guards," Jenny whispered. Thalia nodded. They were both dressed in identical leather purple cat suits and combat boots. They could hear the guards from the prison they had just escaped from asking where they had gone with the rest of their prisoners of war.

One by one, Thalia motioned for them to crawl across the field. Tall grasses would hide them from the soldiers' eyes. She followed after the last of them had gone. Everything was going according to their plan. Once they had escaped into the mountains, they would be out of the jurisdiction of the soldiers and the governor holding them hostage. Then, they heard a soldier cry out, "There she is! Get her!"

Jenny pulled out a compact laser gun and opened fire on the soldiers. Most of them fell, though some of them were hiding behind rocks and trees. "There's something moving in the field, heading towards the mountain. I bet it's the rest of them," another soldier called out. Thalia froze where she was. She knew that she and the rest of the prisoners had been spotted. They turned around and looked at her in fear.

"Go. The rest of you go ahead. Get to the mountains and you're free. Don't worry about Jenny and me. We'll be fine. But the rest of you go ahead. And hurry," she hissed. The prisoners hurriedly continued to crawl. One woman started to, but stopped and turned around. "Thank you. To both of you. We owe our lives and our freedoms to you. Many years from now, when we tell the story about tonight, we will raise a glass to Jenny and Thalia, the Time Lady Sisters, the Daughters of the Doctor." Thalia nodded. The woman followed after her fellow prisoners.

Thalia got up and ran to her sister. She had already fended off all of the soldiers. "Glad you're here, sis. I was starting to think you weren't going to make it," Jenny said as she wiped her laser gun clean.

"Are you kidding me? With all those soldiers, I was starting to think you weren't going to make it," Thalia said.

"All right. I think the coast is clear. Let's make a break for the mountains," Jenny continued. Thalia nodded and the two sisters took off neck and neck and raced through the field. Suddenly, Thalia tripped and fell over a rock. She groaned in pain. "Thalia! Thalia, get up, get up, get up. Wake up, Thalia! Wake up"

Thalia's eyes sprung open and she quickly drew in a breath. She rolled over on her side in her bed to see Jenny excitedly jumping up and down and nudging her, urging her to get up.

"Come on, Thalia! You've got to get up!" Jenny enthusiastically said. "You're going to be late."

"Late for what?" Thalia yawned.

"Dad said he had a special surprise for you. Get up. Go downstairs. Mum's waiting for you downstairs with breakfast. Thalia got up out of bed and walked toward her door.

"Oh and Thalia," Jenny began. Thalia turned around. "Happy Birthday!" Thalia smiled.

"Thank you, Jenny. You know, last night I had the craziest dream about us."
"Oh really?" Jenny asked.

"Yeah. We were saving prisoners of war from a cruel governor on some far off planet. We were wearing these combat boots and matching leather purple cat suits. We were fighting off all these soldiers and getting the prisoners to the mountains to get them to freedom. It was so badass!"

Jenny giggled. "Of course it was."

"Jenny, do you think it was more than just a dream? Do you think this could really happen someday?" Thalia asked.

Jenny smiled. "I think that we will go on our own adventures and change the universe for the better, just like Father does. I think these days will come very soon. Now go on, your breakfast is getting cold."

Thalia hurried downstairs to find a bouquet of flowers in a vase at the center of her kitchen table. At Thalia's place was a plate full of scrambled eggs, hash browns, and three blueberry pancakes. She could still smell them cooking. Rose was feeding pancakes to her youngest child, Winston Eugene Tyler, a child of only two years old. Shortly after the Torchwood celebration party, Rose, Jenny, Thalia, and the Doctor's duplicate, whom they called John, moved into a bigger house. Rose and John got married and had Winston. Thankfully, Winston's birth had been much less dramatic than Thalia's was. They all lived their lives as a happy family, helping each other through thick and thin and supporting each other every step of the way. Today, they were celebrating Thalia's 18th birthday.

"And there's the birthday girl!" Rose squealed. She got up to embrace her daughter. "As you can see, I made your favorite breakfast. Your brother certainly enjoys it. Happy birthday, darling."

"Happy Bird-ay Tal-ee-aah," Winston babbled at his big sister in his limited vocabulary. Thalia sat down and enjoyed her breakfast with her mother, like they had done for so many years.

Rose smiled with misty eyes at her daughter. "I can't believe this will be the last birthday we celebrate together before you go off to Oxford next autumn." In the coming autumn, Thalia would start her freshman year at the esteemed Oxford University. She had put all of her hard work since her return in preparation for getting into the university of her dreams. She would be studying Archaeology and Anthropology.

"Don't worry, Mum. I'll come back and visit."

"I know. I know that you're going to learn a lot, make new friends, and do great things at Oxford. You're going to discover the person you were meant to become."

"Thanks, Mum. You're the one that got me this far. I wouldn't be where I am today without you." Rose and Thalia shared a sweet smile. So where's Dad?" Thalia asked after a brief pause.

Rose smirked. "He is still out back, working on your special birthday gift. Although it's your birthday gift, I think this is something we can all enjoy together as a family. Once you finish your breakfast, go get dressed. He should be almost done."

"Do you know what Daddy's planning for me?" Thalia asked Winston. He simply smiled, giggled, and shook his head, tossing his blonde mop around.

"No," he simply said.

Thalia gulped down the rest of her breakfast and ran upstairs to get dressed. She decided on wearing a white shirt and red cardigan with blue jeans and her Converses. She brushed her brown, wavy hair. She noticed that she had grown a few inches and developed a curvier figure over the past three years. As she pinned back some of her hair, John appeared behind her.

"Happy Birthday, Thalia! I'm very happy to be here with you and to be celebrating your birthday with you. I know he would like to be here with you too."

"I'm glad you're here too, Dad." Thalia turned around and hugged John.

"Come with me. Your birthday present is waiting downstairs." He took her hand and led her downstairs to meet her mother, sister, and brother. Jenny placed her hands over Thalia's eyes as John led them all outside. "All right, just a few more steps now. And…now!" Jenny removed her hands from Thalia's eyes. Thalia gasped and walked up to the TARDIS that was standing right in front of her. Like her father's, it took on the form of a blue police box.

"Is this for real?" she asked.

"Yep. Sure is," John answered.

"But I thought it would take a lot longer than this," Thalia remarked.

"Well I worked my magic and voila-here we are, just in time for your 18th birthday. Well go on in." Thalia opened the door to find the floors plated with gold. The interior seemed to automatically light up more with each step that Thalia took. The sides were ribbed with white coral-like arches. At the top of the console were the names of Rose, Thalia, Jenny, Winston, and John in Gallifreyan. As Thalia approached the hexagonal shaped console, she was surprised by something popping out at one of the edges. She picked up the object. It looked like a long silvery-blue lipstick container with a golden button about halfway to the top of it. When Thalia pressed the button, a pink bulb emerged and lit up with a small whirring sound.

"It's your very own sonic screwdriver," John said as he pulled out his own, identical to the one used by his original.

"No way!"

"Way!"

Jenny led Rose and little Winston onboard the TARDIS. "C'mon, Mum. C'mon, little brother," she sweetly called. Rose loved having Jenny around. She helped out a lot with Thalia and Winston. Frankly, it was nice having more people call her "Mum."

They all stood at four points equidistant from each other at the console. "So, where shall we go today, Thalia? It is your birthday after all. You decide where we go first. Shall we go into the future or into the past? Down the street or to far away planets and galaxies? You get to choose," John said.

Thalia stood back and thought for a moment. "I want to go to a beach on another planet, where the skies are orange and the seas are purple with many moons in the sky." John grinned. "I know just the place. Everybody hang on. This may get a bit bumpy. Rose, keep pulling on that lever there. Jenny, keep that thing down. Thalia, keep steering that little wheel there. All right everybody, here we go." The four of them held on tightly as they steered the TARDIS together as a family unit. They would all go on their own adventures together, the way it always meant to be.

Well you guys, this is where I end this story. I don't know what you guys were expecting, but this is always how I planned to end this story. I am ending this story today on my 26th birthday and I think it's about time. I started working on this story towards the end of my sophomore year in college and now I've been out of college for almost three years. In all that time, I've held several jobs, graduated from college, and lost my beloved grandfather. I wanted to finish this story to get started on other writing projects, so be on the lookout for those. In the meantime, let me know if you want to hear more from Jenny and Thalia. This was my first fanfiction and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I hope you all enjoyed this. I hope to hear more from you guys as well.

Love always,

Katie
