Unforeseen Consequences

Sarah: Chapter 11 is here. I'm glad everyone seems to continue to enjoy what I'm creating here. I hope everyone continues to enjoy it. This chapter starts with Elena.
REVIEW REPLIES
Leann Nickerson: as I've never seen the episodes with Damon's mother in the series, I use my right as making this an alternate universe as making Damon's mother sweet and kind and loving and loyal, no matter how she actually was in the show. I make it so Damon and his mother were very close friends as well as mother and son before she died giving birth to Stefan in my alternate universes. Anyways, here's the next chapter.
OlicityxSkyward: you'll see the beginning of Daddy Damon in this chapter as he surprises Elena with the perfect nursery for twin half-vampires. And who says the twins will be terrors? (grins) ah, well, maybe they will be. Half their DNA comes from Damon after all.
amazing Aisha: oh, Damon wants her all the time, no matter how she looks. He just thinks she's even hotter carrying his children. Glad you enjoyed, here's the next chapter.
Guest Meghan: glad you think so. Here's the next chapter. It's also gonna be a little short.
TVD1992: Leon means Lion and Trista is a feminine form of Tristan, which means Riot, Tumult. Thanks for asking. Here's more.
Delena4ever25: here's the next chapter at last. Glad you like the names.
Bella-swan11: oh, oh, such clever ideas. I may or may not make use of them. Do remember that this is Season 1 AU so Klaus and even Katherine aren't in the picture. But you're right that the birth of half-vampire babies will rock the supernatural world. As for what the future is for Damon, Elena, and their children will be, well, you'll have to wait to find out. And Klaus will be able to meet other hybrids when the twins are born, though not quite the same type of hybrid. I do so hope you continue to enjoy what is to come.
DevonnaDanielle: here's the next chapter, finally. Hope you enjoy it.
Chapter 11
Nursery Surprise
About the time I'm three months along in my pregnancy, Damon decides he wants to get started on creating the perfect nursery for the twins. After three days of debate with each other, we decide on the room right next to ours for the nursery. Afterwards, Damon tells me in no uncertain terms that the nursery is going to be a surprise gift from him to me and I'm not to peek in there until it's complete.
No matter how I try to protest, try to be allowed to help furnish and decorate it, he refuses to budge from his decision. In the end, I'm the one to give in and let him have his surprise. Over the next two months, all I can do is watch as he cheerily carries paint cans and mysterious boxes and bags into the room, locking the door behind him both when he's in there working and when he's not. I know this because I've tested the knob a couple of times when he was away at a council meeting. Somehow, he always knew when I was trying to peek and he'd remind me when he got back of my promise to let it be a surprise.
Finally, just as my curiosity is about to drive me insane at the start of my fifth month of pregnancy, Damon comes to me with a Cheshire cat's grin and asks me to come with him. I realize he's finally ready to show off the nursery. I'm quick to mark my spot in my book with the two of hearts playing card and carefully climb off our bed. Over the past two months, my belly has steadily grown larger as the babies grow and develop within my womb. I can't even see my toes anymore and getting around is getting more and more difficult. But I still manage on my own.
Damon wraps his arm around my waist and guides me to the room next door. "Close your eyes," he instructs, pulling out the key to the room. I sigh but obediently close them. He's going to milk this for all it's worth. I hear Damon unlock the door and then his arm is back around my waist. "Let me guide you," he whispers in my ear. I nod, not even cracking my eyes for a peak. I've waited two long months; I can wait a few more seconds. He guides me several steps into the room. I feel him position himself where he can see my face clearly before he says, "Okay, Elena, you can look."
I open my eyes and gasp at the absolutely stunning nursery Damon had spent the past two months slaving over. Rather than baby blue and pastel pink, as I had half-thought he would go for, the main color scheme is rose red and sunshine yellow, with highlights of cream and peach.
Over a cream and rose-red themed crib on one side of the room are giant, colorful Styrofoam letters on the wall that spell out Leon. Over the other crib on the other side of the room, themed in sunshine yellow and peach, are more of those Styrofoam letters spelling out Trista. The rest of the room is a perfect blending of a nursery for twins of opposite genders, with toy cars and soldiers too big for even a toddler to swallow mingling with a large dollhouse, complete with dolls meant for infants and toddlers. And all over the room are stuffed animals of all kinds and sizes. A toy chest stenciled with bats and fangs situated on the wall halfway between the two cribs signals there are even more toys waiting for our children to be old enough to play with them.
I turn to Damon with a joyful heart, tears of gratitude in my eyes. "It's perfect," I tell him, giving him the best hug I can manage with my ever-growing belly and place a kiss on his cheek. "I never imagined a nursery could be so perfect. Thank you, Damon."
He lets out one of his rare, true smiles. The relief evident in his eyes tells me he had been a little worried about my reaction to his surprise. "You're welcome," he murmurs.
Damon
It's good to know all those weeks spent slaving away to make the perfect nursery for two little half-vampires has won Elena's approval. If there was even one thing she didn't like about it, I'd change it immediately. I'll do anything to make her happy. Suddenly, Elena's eyes widen and she grabs my hand and presses it to her stomach. I know I get a goofy grin on my face when I feel the tell-tale fluttering of her stomach that tells us the babies are awake and active. They've been making themselves known for the past month and each time I feel that movement in Elena's womb is as precious as the first time.
"They're awake," I whisper in awe.
"I think they'll love their room," Elena says softly. She rests her head on my shoulder. "Sometimes I think I get thoughts from them, or at the very least feelings. They'll definitely have your powers, Damon. You'll have to train them sooner rather than later."
"Then I will," I tell her, stealing another kiss. Over the past couple of months, I have been having to be more and more creative in order to make love to her without risking harming the babies. But I'm not giving up that until the last possible minute. Besides, plenty of men are able to make love to their pregnant woman.
I reach a hand into my pocket and finger the ring box. I know I want to marry Elena before the babies are born, so I can't put off the proposal too much longer. Looking into her wonder-filled eyes, I made a snap decision to ask her tonight. I already have the proposal all planned out, I've just been waiting for the perfect opportunity. I pray she says 'yes'. I'm just old-fashioned enough to want my children to be born legitimate. Besides, I've realized I'm completely head-over-heels in love with their mother.
Sarah: I had all but a couple of sentences of this chapter just sitting here for months because I didn't know how to end it or where. But I've decided the proposal needs its own chapter. Please drop me a review and let me know what you think.
