Christmas Kisses

Little drops of sweat trickled down his pale face as he watched from the Slytherin end as a glimmer of red hair appeared in the Great Hall. She had gone home over Christmas, but he had chosen to stay, and for the two weeks all he had thought about (or fretted over, if he was being honest with himself) was whether or not she liked his gift. She was horribly hard to choose for, and considering they hardly talked, he wasn't sure how well he actually knew her.

"It's wonderful."

He'd still been watching the space she had just vacated, barely noticing that she was now sitting beside him, out of place in her Gryffindor colours.

"Hm?"

Beaming, she removed the scarf from around her neck to reveal the gold chain that rested on her chest. It shone almost as brightly as her under the enchanted roof. "It's wonderful, Scorpius. It's beautiful. I love it. Thank you."

"Oh… oh no problem at all." He smiled crookedly. "Glad you like it."

And before he could even register what was happening, she planted a gentle kiss on his cheek, earning sniggers and giggles from those around them.

Scorpius blushed.

"See you around." She smiled at him, and almost as quickly as she had come, she disappeared, vanishing into the midst of Hogwarts students who had just returned from their holidays and sharing stories of adventures loudly across the Hall.

Scorpius smiled to himself. Well… that had gone better than he had expected.
