Present Day…
Emma and Killian stared at Sydney Glass the host of the late night show they were being interviewed on. He sat in front of them, a desk in between them and the couch that Killian and Emma. Their own hands were interlaced together but more importantly a matching set of rings on their left ring fingers. Emma turned to Killian with a big dazzling smile on her face, he in return squeezed the hand he was holding.
"So what happened after you found out about the interview?" He asked, the question directed more towards Emma but really they both knew that Killian could just as easily explain the tale. With that, one of Killian's signature smirks crept into the corner of his mouth, giving the world a peak of his sparkling white teeth.
"You want to tell him or shall I love?" Emma shrugged returning the smirk with a smile of her own.
"You tell it so much better."
Then…
He was in a daze, his limbs and brain just going through the motions of what now was now his norm. He didn't even care that his dream of becoming a writer had come true. What was the point if he didn't have her by his side? She was his world, his everything and he had hurt her. The one person he swore he would never hurt, he didn't deserve her forgiveness after what he had done. It was all a big mistake, a mistake he would regret for the rest of his life.
After countless interviews, Killian opted to just head home to his painfully empty apartment. The jingle of his keys echoing as he threw them onto the kitchen counter, slamming the front door with the curve of his foot. It had become a habit of his to leave the door unlocked. Because a part of him was hoping that she'd waltz right through the door as if nothing had changed. He knew it was dangerous to do so, but frankly he didn't give a living shit, if there was even the slightest chance that she would come home to him, he'd do it.
With a sigh Killian walked into the bathroom and looked at himself in the mirror; dark circles under his once sparkling baby blue eyes, stubble and hair neatly kept (for appearance sakes) but if it were up to him he wouldn't even bother to style his hair, let alone shave. Killian brought his hands to his face and attempted to rub the tired look off, but unfortunately it didn't work.
Rolling his eyes at how pathetic he was he turned towards the shower and turned it on, stripping himself of his clothes and letting them fall in a heap on the bathroom floor. The cold water made him jump but got used to the chill before it slowly warmed up, the water rolling off his back like waves on the ocean. He wasn't sure how long he stood there under the water but eventually he ran a hand through his wet hair, then turned off the water. Wrapping a towel around his waist and walking back to his bed room…
He had changed into a pair of sleep pants when his phone rang, with a sigh he reached over from his spot in his bed to his side table and looked at his phione with little care. That is until his heart nearly stopped when he saw the caller ID. Emma.
"Emma?"
"Is your brother insane?"
"Pardon?" He nearly chuckled, his hands shaking with happiness and anticipation to hear what she had to say to him.
"Dropping the proposal bomb on me?! Okay so your brother drives up to fucking Maine to see me, and just as he's leaving he shouts out his car window that he's going to propose to Elsa?! You two have pulled some shit on me but you do not tell me in passing that you're going to propose to my best friend!" She seethed through her teeth, Killian remaining quiet as she ranted.
He rubbed the spot behind his neck as he said, "Swan as much as I love hearing from you, did you really call me just because my brother informed you of his plans to marry lady Elsa?"
There was silence on her end until she gasped, once again he nearly laughed at her, but held it back, "Oh damn that bastard is good, now I see where you get it from. Both of you, sly mother fuckers getting under my skin and driving me absolutely bonkers."
He nearly said that she was the one who was driving him absolutely bonkers but instead replied with, "Emma, darling I-"
"Congratulations Killian, if anyone deserves a hit seller it's you."
Killian brought his free hand to his chest, feeling a swell of pride in his dormant and broken heart, getting up from his bed he began to pace, "I don't want your congratulations lass, not when my success made me lose you." He would never lie to her again after what had happened and he found himself silently promising that he would never break that promise.
"I'm sorry," Emma whispered sincerely, he nodded before remembering she couldn't actually see him.
"Don't be, I'm the one who fucked up. I know you must hate me but just know that if you ever need me, I'll always be there."
"Killian-"
"Goodbye Emma." With that he hung up and plopped back onto his bed and almost immediately, he fell into a dreamless sleep…
Killian was awoken hours later by a pounding at his front door, with a groan he peeled himself from his bed and glared at the clock which read 5:18 AM. What was so bloody important that couldn't wait for the actual morning? Or a decent hour at the least?
Not bothering to check his appearance, he sleepily slid towards the door, had he known who was behind that door he would've looked in the mirror. And put on a god damn shirt. However that wasn't what happened, "Liam I swear to go-" His words fell short as he opened up the door and came face to face with an angel. His angel. His mouth fell open and he was sure to catch flies if he remained there staring. It wasn't polite to stare but he couldn't bloody well help it. She was here. What was she doing here? He didn't really care why she was just the fact that she was was enough.
She was more beautiful than when he last saw her, and it took all his strength to keep himself at bay and not kiss her senseless. Because damn it he missed her so much. When his eyes finally reached her face, he saw a slight blush on her cheeks, her own eyes flicking from his bare chest then meeting his eyes.
"I-"
"Before you say anything I just want to ask if you meant it?"
"What the bloody hell are you talking about?"
"Your interview, did you mean what you said? That you'd like to spend the rest of your life with me?"
He smirked looking down at the ground, shifting his feet before looking up at her with a cocked eyebrow and a serious look on his face, "No."
"Excuse me?"
"You've got it wrong lass, well your phrasing is wrong."
"You have some nerve-" Emma's brows crinkled forming creases in the center and he found her so adorable that he took pity on her.
"I believe what I said was that I would love to spend the rest of my life with you. I wouldn't like it, I would love it. That is if you'll have me."
It was Emma's turn to have her mouth falling to the floor like a curtain, she laughed at him awkwardly before they both took a step closer. His arms wrapping around her waist, bringing her flush against his chest, her hands resting carefully on his chest. This was home, he thought.
"I hate you Killian Jones."
Killian rolled his eyes, "No you don't, you love me."
"Perhaps I do." She whispered shyly, her forehead resting against his, before his heart and brain said fuck it and he closed the distance between them, claiming her lips for his own. Little did they know that this was the first of a life time's worth of kisses.
Present Day…
"I take it you guys got your happy ending?" Sydney Glass smiled, gesturing towards their intertwined hands, Emma's ring sparkling in the light.
"You have no idea." Killian smiled, turning to his wife and kissing her lips quickly before turning back to Sydney.
"Now Emma, what about the proposal? How did he do it?"
"Well it took over the course of three days…"
Then…
It had been three months since she had come home to Killian, to say that she was happy was an understatement. They were happy, in love, and everything was perfect. But for the past two days Killian had been acting weird, not in a bad way but just weird. Two days ago he had taken her to see her favorite play The Phantom of the Opera and to a nice restaurant. Then yesterday he had taken her on his boat and they went sailing for the entire day.
Today Killian was on edge, he groaned when he saw that it was extra windy outside. She was sitting in their apartment on the couch reading when he cursed under his breath, rubbing his hands together before turning to her and saying, "How about we go to the park?"
"Ugh I don't want to go to the park!"
"Darling just humor me would you?"
"Tell me what's going on?"
Killian walked over to where she was sitting, closing the book she held in her hands, "You know you mean everything to me."
"Of course Killian! You know I love you."
"Good."
There was silence between them for a few seconds, Emma reached over and took Killian's hand in hers, he took a deep breath in and said, "Do you know what the theme of the past three days has been?"
"Theme?"
"Aye." He nodded, in that moment she wasn't sure if she was being tested or not so she shrugged then he explained, "The play and the restaurant represents land, yesterday on the boat was sea, today we were supposed to go on a hot air balloon ride and that was supposed to represent air. But alas the bloody weather got in the way, hence why I wanted to go to the park. The last three days were supposed to tell you that land, sea and air I will always love you."
"Killian what are you trying to say?"
"Will you marry me?"
"I would." She said nonchalantly, not realizing he was actually asking.
"So is that a yes?"
That's when it hit her as if a bulldozer had hit and run her over, he was asking her to marry him.
"You're asking me to marry you?"
"Yes."
"My goodness Killian! I thought you were asking hypothetically! Yes! Of course I'll marry you!"
The smile he gave her was brighter than all the stars, all the galaxies, and all the diamonds in the world. Their lips met and they kissed each other like they were the only two people left on the planet.
"There's just one thing my love."
"And what is that?" She asked in between kisses.
"I don't have a ring." He smiled shyly, rubbing the back of his ear as if he were caught stealing a cookie from a cookie jar.
Present Day…
"What do you mean he didn't have a ring?" Sydney asked in what would be as close to shock as it could be from someone who was just interviewing them.
"Well I wanted her to have the perfect ring." Killian explained, his arm wrapped around his wife lovingly pulling her closer, "So I let her pick it out."
"Giving a girl the reins in a diamond store is pretty risky," He said with a light laugh before asking, "How'd you know she wasn't going to go picking out the biggest ring there?"
"Because I know her, she doesn't like anything big or fancy. She just wanted simple, I'd rather her get something she liked over me picking it out and she hate it."
"Well congratulations on your nuptials! Also congratulations on your newest book, while your first book is more about you, with Emma mentioned in certain chapters. This one is everything that has happened is that correct?"
"Aye, it begins with when we were 'enemies' and she was still with her ex, they were arguing about him leaving his full cereal bowl in the sink."
"It's disgusting okay?" Emma piped in with a laugh, the live audience and
"Agreed." Killian replied.
"And what is the name of your newest book?"
"It's actually called The Swan and The Scribe, there was a mistake when my first book was published. The book was out for a little less than a month before I told the printing company that the title was wrong. Besides I didn't even want the thing published in the first place."
"That's not true." Emma scoffed, with a nudge. Killian rolled his eyes and kissed his wife's temple.
"Okay it's not, I just promised the lass that I wouldn't. Someone went and did it anyways. At the time that's what I wanted to call it, but I realized that I couldn't put that name on there when Emma is literally my entire world. She couldn't have just a few mentions here and there, I wanted this book to be about us and our journey."
"So your first book was renamed Once Upon a Time?"
"Correct, which is much more fitting for what is in there." Emma nodded, squeezing her husband's hand.
"If there are people out there who have your first book and it's called The Swan and The Scribe they have a rare copy." Killian beamed looking towards the live audience, then at Sydney, then finally to his beautiful wife. The fact that he got here and she agreed to marry him was still unbelievable. He wasn't complaining at all but he was still shocked that someone like him could win the heart of someone like her.
"Well thank you for being here, The Swan and The Scribe is officially out now in stores. Congratulations to you both, I guess you could say that you both got your happy ending am I right?"
"Yes Sydney, we did." Killian says not once taking his eyes off of Emma Jones, the woman of his dreams. His everything. But more importantly his happy ending.
THE END
*sighs* holy cow you guys! This isn't what I had planned on executing the ending but you know what I think it turned out so much better! So fun fact! The proposal is actually how my father proposed to my mother, everything from the fact that my mum didn't realize my father was asking and my mum being stubborn and not humoring my dad and go to the park. I have always loved how he did it and that he let my mum pick out her ring! The exact dialogue obviously isn't the same cause hello they didn't have me yet but I just went with it. My parents have been married for 23 years now and they are such great role models and amazing parents…
If you haven't guessed by now, the entire content of this fic is supposed to act as Killian's book, however the ending is like they have been telling the story the entire time. I got inspiration from the stories that are in When Harry Met Sally and I thought it'd be cool if I did something like that!
Anyways…I apologize for the long ass wait, two years probably isn't worth the wait but a girl can dream!
If you guys enjoyed this, reviews are always welcome :)
Thank you all sooooooo much! *bows*
