"Are you ready, Lucy?" Levy asked as she impatiently tapped a pencil against her desk.
"Wait a minute," Lucy mumbled, patting down her hair to make sure she would look perfect.
"What's taking you so long?" Levy whined. "Natsu won't care how you look!"
"S-Still," the blonde stuttered while her hands fell back down to her sides. "I still get nervous each time I see him. Aren't you like that with Gajeel now?"
Levy's eyes widened as if she was caught doing something wrong.
"So what?" she averted her gaze.
"Is Erza ready?" Lucy questioned.
"Yes," Erza's voice came in, appearing in a shimmering black dress.
"Whoa," Levy and Lucy whistled.
"I want to look good for Jellal tonight," Erza confessed with a bashful smile.
"A little too good," Levy snickered. Lucy looked down at the floor to keep herself from laughing.
"So we're all ready?" Lucy asked, her heart pumping with anticipation.
"Yep!" the two girls nodded.
The trio grinned at each other. It had been a long journey for the three of them, but in the end they remained best friends.
Their friendship grew even stronger when they met in real life.
"I'm so excited!" Levy cheered as they exited their dorm.
"You're going to wake up the entire dormitory," Erza warned the bouncing bluenette.
"Nobody ever sleeps in Magnolia," Levy pouted.
"Natsu told me once that Magnolia is considered the city that never sleeps," Lucy recalled.
"I have slept plenty of times since I came here," Erza stated.
Lucy and Levy shared a look. Erza's serious composure hadn't faltered since they met except once.
It was as quick as the blinking of an eye, but Lucy and Levy made sure to catch every glimpse of Erza's expression when Jellal laced his fingers with hers in front of them.
"Good thing it's warm tonight," Levy spoke with content as the three girls left the campus of Magnolia University.
"Even though it's fall," Erza clicked her tongue with an uncomfortable feeling that although the trees were as orange as Levy's dress, the air felt like the summer night everyone had met each other.
"Are you excited?" Levy asked Lucy with bright eyes.
"Of course," Lucy replied, her quick heartbeats never slowing down at the thought of Natsu being by her side again.
"Let's hope Natsu's artwork doesn't disappoint," Erza said bluntly.
"It won't," Lucy assured.
"Where are we meeting everyone else?" Levy questioned once they reached the labyrinth of shining buildings.
"Outside of the museum, right?" Lucy responded.
"Let's go!" Levy cheered again, linking both of her arms with Erza and Levy.
"L-Levy!" Erza blurted out as she was being pulled along.
"Come on, Erza!" Levy giggled.
Lucy smiled as she let Levy tug her down the streets the three of them had memorized in a matter of five days.
"I can't believe they aren't here yet!" Levy frowned after reaching the entrance of the museum.
"I didn't know you wanted to see Gajeel that bad," Erza teased.
Lucy stifled a laugh as she listened to her best friends pester each other. Sounds of footsteps clicked behind her; she turned to see who they were from.
"Yo," Gajeel nodded to Lucy.
"Hey, Lucy," Gray greeted her with his hands behind his back.
"Nice to see you again," Jellal chimed in politely.
"Hey—"
"Gajeel!" Levy stepped towards him with a wide grin.
"Hello," Erza gave Jellal her own smile as they automatically slipped their hands into each other's.
Lucy watched the couples with amusement. They had been together a handful of times, but she enjoyed the light feeling in the air that formed when everyone was together.
"Ah," Gray cleared his throat to get everyone's attention. "Juvia wants to greet everyone."
Everyone watched as a blue eye revealed itself behind Gray's back.
"H-Hello," Juvia spoke slowly.
"Hi, Juvia," Lucy waved at her.
"We don't bite!" Levy guaranteed when Juvia remained stiff. She glanced at Erza and Gajeel, just in case.
"O-Okay," she responded, letting herself step out of Gray's back and join the group.
"Your dress looks great," Erza complimented.
"Thank you!" Juvia exclaimed.
The girls understood that it would take a while for Juvia to get comfortable around them. They knew it was possible because each time they saw her, she stood beside Gray as if they were connected by the hip.
It was only to everyone else that she became silent and timid.
"The guys look great, too," Lucy remarked, taking a look at the guys' suits.
"We know," Gajeel replied, fixing his already straight bowtie.
"Erza and Jellal look like they belong in an action movie," Gray scoffed at the couple.
"They do!" Levy agreed, observing their black outfits. "Like a spy movie."
"We don't at all," Erza's eyes widened as she looked back at everyone's face.
"I can see it," Jellal shrugged, gaining a surprised expression from Erza.
"Should we go inside?" Lucy suggested after noticing there were already people entering the museum.
"Sure," everyone answered in unison.
Entering the art museum, the group wandered around the large room with paintings.
"Have a sample, please," a man walked to the group, extending a plate filled with mini sized quiche to them.
"Don't mind if I do," Gajeel responded, getting two handfuls of samples.
"Gajeel," Levy whispered anxiously.
"You want some?" he offered.
"Gajeel is definitely a keeper," Gray chuckled.
After eating their sample and getting distracted by the other offers of food, the group eventually started to look at the paintings.
Everyone in the group knew that even though they were complimenting the artist standing beside their artwork, they were all waiting to see Natsu's.
"These paintings are really good," Lucy muttered to Levy.
"No way they're better than Natsu's, though, right?" Levy inquired as they continued to stroll through the museum.
Lucy didn't get a chance to reply, because altogether the group's steps came to halt to stare at a painting.
Lucy couldn't smear off the grin on her face as she casted a look at everyone's mesmerized expressions at Natsu's crimson dragon.
Her eyes connected with Natsu's; they shared their grin.
"Take a picture, it'll last longer," Natsu smirked after nobody had said a word.
"There's a sign that says we can't," Erza replied simply, her eyes lingering on the dragon like everyone else's.
"It's a shame such a nice painting belongs you," Gray sighed, crossing his arms in disapproval.
"I can't hear you," Natsu retorted childishly.
"You're really amazing!" Levy exclaimed, going closer to the dragon. "You put it in so much detail."
"It's not bad," Gajeel gave a shrug.
"Thanks, guys," Natsu grinned, even though the only true compliment came from Levy.
Lucy decided to stay behind when everyone else joined Levy to examine the dragon.
"What do you think about the painting?" Natsu inquired when she walked up to him.
"It looks better online," she replied.
"That's what I thought, too," he joked along with her. They looked at each other with a twinkle in their eyes.
"Even though you're wearing a suit like us, you're still wearing that stupid scarf," Gajeel pointed out.
"It suits him in a way," Gray scrutinized at him as if he was having trouble believing his own words.
Lucy giggled as they teased Natsu—it was much more entertaining to watch in person. When the group turned back to admire Natsu's painting, Lucy swiftly turned to him.
"What are you doing?" Natsu raised an eyebrow as she leaned towards him.
She lifted the scarf so she could see the collar of his suit. Finding what hid under the scarf was what she was expecting, but she couldn't hold back her laugh.
"Hey," Natsu grumbled, taking her hand to push his scarf back down. "You haven't taught me how to tie a tie yet."
"I will soon," she giggled, loving that out of all the things Natsu couldn't do, tying a tie was one of them.
"Excuse me, sir," a voice squeaked.
Lucy's eyes widened as she took a step back to let the visitor speak with Natsu.
"I'll see you after this is over," he told her, then focused his attention on the visitor.
"He looks so professional," Levy said with bewilderment as she and Lucy watched Natsu speak with the people who came up to him.
"It's weird," Gray stated.
"It is," Lucy nodded.
"To think that Natsu is growing up before us," Erza spoke.
The group turned to Erza and gave her a look.
"That's impossible!" the group exclaimed in unison.
Before anyone realized, their time at the art museum came to an end. They exited the art museum with grimaces spread across their faces.
"Gajeel, you're terrible," Gray groaned.
"Did you really need to get all that food?" Levy's grimace deepened as she viewed Gajeel stuff his mouth with the leftover samples from the museum.
"I'm hungry and I don't want to wait for dinner," he responded in mid-chew.
"So gross," Erza shook her head while Jellal gave her an amused smile.
"Can Juvia have some, too?" Juvia's voice asked quietly.
"Yeah, go ahead," Gajeel gave her the silver plate.
"Thank you," she smiled after sliding out two samples for herself.
"How long is Natsu going to take? I'm hungry now," Gray stated.
"I'll go check," Lucy volunteered, stepping out of the group.
She went up the several steps to the doors and pulled open the door. As soon as she entered the building, she collided into a chest.
"Hey," Natsu grinned as he looked down at the blonde, the door shutting behind her.
"T-They wanted me to check where you were," Lucy stuttered, feeling the door centimeters away from her back.
"I've missed you today," he muttered, pressing his forehead against hers.
"Me too," she admitted.
"It's all your fault we've been separated today," he stated.
"How?" she looked up at his closed eyelids.
"You're the one that set this up, remember?" he revealed his hazel eyes.
Lucy opened her mouth to reply, but was interrupted by his warm lips. Everything around her seemed to dissolve except Natsu's lips pressing against hers.
She had lost track on how many random kisses Natsu gave her after moving to Magnolia, but each and every one of them made her fall in love with him all over again. Every single time.
The couple jumped apart as there was a knock on the door from outside.
"Save that for when we go back to the dorms!" the group yelled.
Natsu scoffed as his hand slid down to Lucy's hand and entwined their fingers together. She felt Natsu's hand touch her left ring finger first; it made goose bumps rise on her skin.
"Do you need anything?" Natsu smirked at his friends as he opened the door for Lucy to exit the building.
"Buy us dinner," Gajeel commanded after tossing the plate into the trash like a frisbee. It was obvious that out of everyone in the group Gajeel was the most athletic.
"Let's play rock, paper, scissors. Whoever loses has to buy dinner," Natsu proposed.
"You're on," Gajeel gave a wicked grin.
Everyone closely watched as Natsu and Gajeel played best two out of three.
"Who will win?" Erza asked to create tension.
"Gajeel is the winner!" she reported once the three games were over.
"Erza makes a good reporter," Levy stated after Natsu's defeat. He leaned against Lucy for support.
"She did the same thing when we had the competition on Christmas Eve together that one time," Lucy remarked, the strands of Natsu's hair tickling her forehead.
"That was two years ago!" Levy realized with disbelief.
"Already?" Gray inquired.
"It feels like just yesterday Lucy joined our group," Erza smiled.
"Remember when Gray wouldn't keep his shirt on during our video chat?" Levy giggled.
"And Gajeel took off his piercings for us," Lucy grinned.
"It's been a long time, guys," Natsu spoke with his own smile.
"Tell me about it," Gajeel nodded.
The group smiled at each other; they had spent the last three years together and they were going to spend the next four with each other in Magnolia University.
Jellal and Juvia had disappeared from their minds, but once they saw them uneasily standing outside of their group, they widened their circle just for them.
"Welcome to our group," Lucy welcomed them.
"We should make up a name for our group!" Levy suggested.
"No," Gajeel replied instantly.
"Let's think about a name while we go to dinner," Natsu nodded his head to the side, beckoning them to follow him.
As Levy blurted out names that were as bad as her jokes, the group that was now a group of eight aimlessly walked through the streets of Magnolia in search for a restaurant.
From time to time, Natsu would give Lucy's hand a gentle squeeze. She immediately squeezed back only to squeeze again since Natsu seemed to only focus on her. It was their silent game.
At long last, everything came into place like a puzzle.
With their admissions to Magnolia University, the group of eight naturally melted into each other's lives without the help of internet connection, keyboards, or webcams.
Everyone could happily say they knew how their significant other's hand felt like, how their voice sounded like when they just woke up, and how awful their bed hair was in the morning.
Lucy didn't think it was possible to be happy for weeks and weeks, but not once did she feel any type of unhappiness when standing beside Natsu.
Levy felt just the same, and when everyone had gone to sleep, the two girls would secretly speak together about the joys of being able to see someone they once saw on a computer screen be right in front of them.
It wasn't long before every girl in the group had a sparkling ring on their left hand. As Lucy jumped in delight with the rest of the girls, it made her realize…
Perhaps it wasn't just her that fell in love at first sight.
