"Gather your things, Kagome. I suppose we should begin the travel soon." Gaara said, watching as she stared open mouthed at the silent blob of sand that held Inuyasha. "Don't worry, he can breathe." The worried look that had settled into Kagome's eyes receded some and within minutes Kagome, Gaara, and sand blob Inuyasha were on their way to the well. There is no way he'll be able to get through… Right?
Although the walk from Suna to the well had seemed like forever to Kagome, the group was able to reach it in about 10 minutes. But they did have the help of Gaara's 'magical sand' as she secretly liked to call it. The trip to the well may have been fast as well as a awkwardly silent, but that didn't stop the panic from rising in Kagome's head. The only people who can enter the well are me and Inuyasha so there's really no reason to worry… I just have a strange feeling about this.
The sight of the well almost brought tears to the priestess's eyes. "I'm going home." She whispered, relieved. Gaara looked down after hearing the strange words and saw a sappy smile covering the small Kagome's face. His cheeks felt somewhat hot as he looked away, which was odd considering the heat didn't really affect him anymore. One word drifted through his mind, Strange.
Kagome, who had been held captive in Gaara's arms the whole trip, jumped to the ground and looked towards the sand that held Inuyasha. He's not going to be happy when he comes out… As if on cue, the sand melted slowly to the ground, revealing a pissed Inuyasha. "Kagome…" The words dripped like poison from his lips and the ravonette knew to take cover behind the closest shield, which happened to be Gaara. "Get the hell over here, we're going back now!"
"Yes, we are." The stoic red-head said. Gold eyes whipped over to meet impassive teal with confusion and anger. The air around them became static, and Kagome started to pray silently.
"I already told you, you're not coming, you bastard!" Inuyasha's voice became low and gruff, making the hair on Kagome's neck stand up. Gaara, however, stared calmly back at the half demon. He must have a death warrant… Kagome thought nervously.
Steely green eyes passed Inuyasha without a second glance, leaving the half demon sputtering angrily as Gaara walked to the well. Kagome looked over the edge into the thick darkness that had begun to seem like home to her. Home… She thought, touching the rim of the well with fondness. Memories of her family and friends that lived on the other side ran through the priestess' head.
"How does it work?" Gaara asked somewhat innocently, breaking the ravonette from her not so distant memories. Teal eyes ran over the well, searching for the connection that it held to Kagome's strange and mysterious past.
Taking a large breath in, Kagome simply stated, "We jump." Throwing a leg over the lip of the well, the priestess prepared herself for what would be greeting her in a few moments: her family, her friends, or an unfortunate hug with the ground.
A deep growl broke through the silence that had settled around the three. Looking back at Inuyasha, Kagome saw what the half demon was upset about. In the distance, three figures in orange, black and white, and pink were closing in. The aura of a powerful demon was present even from a mile away, putting Inuyasha on edge.
"Gaara! Where do you think you're going?" Came a voice that was hard to forget: Naruto. The happy boy trotted up to the group, taking in the obvious nervousness from a certain boy with dog ears. "Am I interrupting something…?" Naruto said, a bead of sweat running down his neck under the stare of the half demon.
"Has something happened?" Gaara said, his calm voice held an almost undetectable bit of irritation over the interruption. The enigma that was Kagome Higurashi's home land was about to be solved when his ramen loving friend had to come to the rescue.
"Umm, no… Wait, Kankuro told us that you were planning on taking some kind of trip! He told us to come with you." The blond smiled brightly, obviously proud that he was able to relay the message… Until he saw the red head's dark eyes.
"I refuse. I am more than capable of taking care of myself." Gaara said, his normally dull eyes blazing in the bright sun. The normally stubborn Sakura flinched back, elbowing Sasuke a bit. This left the poor girl with two sets of glaring eyes aimed at her.
The ends of the red head's coat flapped in the gentle breeze, stirring the sand around the Kazekage's feet. The group watched as Gaara walked to the well and stared down into the dark. He quietly said, "Now we jump, I suppose." before stepping over the edge and into the blackness below.
Before Kagome could think, Inuyasha had grabbed her arm and pulled her to the well. "Are you dead, you bastard?" Inuyasha yelled, knowing a fall like that wouldn't kill such a powerful person. It hadn't hurt Kagome so there was no way anything happened to the sand warrior. There was a frightening lack of response from the well. Squinting into the darkness Inuyasha stepped back, stunned at what he saw. Or what he didn't see, rather. Gaara was gone.
