This chapter has been a crazy long time coming and I apologize greatly for that! This, however is the very final chapter of this story. It's a long one chapter and I felt that it was time to finish up the story. Thank you all so so much for reading and reviewing and being wonderful! I do have another bellarke fic up that I've been working on if you want & I will likely be doing more oneshots/potential fics in the future! Again thank you & enjoy (-:
Six months later
Clarke POV
The sound of rain hitting metal woke me up. A gentle pitter patter at first, then increasing louder, a comforting thrum that reminded me that I was on Earth. I yawned, opening my eyes. It was strange to wake up in a room rather than a tent, but it was something that I had become used to ever since the Ark crash landed on earth and we had all moved into Camp Jaha. Obviously the rooms weren't all intact and my particular room had a wide purple piece of tarp as the doorway that swayed gently in the wind, reminding me of being in a tent once again. But I had an actual bed, a bed that was made of wood, a bed that didn't get wet when it rained and blankets that actually kept me warm. It was a cosy little room with the single bed pushed hard up against the wall, a hand woven basket in the corner that stored my clothes and belongings and a stack of sketches shoved in the corner. The heavy blanket on my bed was one Octavia and I had made by hand-stitching spare pieces of material together, filling the insides with feathers we'd meticulously collected, and backed with more material. She'd made one for herself as well and it was now spread over the bed that she shared with Lincoln. It had taken a lot to convince my mother and Kane that Lincoln wasn't a threat but it had also taken a lot to convince them that we were capable of handling ourselves and making our own decisions. Once they realized that we were not the same people that they sent down to die they had been forced to listen to what we had to say. Things had been rocky with Abbey and I, but we had begun stitching our delicate relationship back together.
Sighing I turned my head to the side, my mouth pulling up in a grin when I saw the reason why the past few weeks had been so bearable. He was still fast asleep with a stray curl falling across his forehead, lips parted ever so slightly, his expression peaceful. One arm was curled beneath his head and the other was curled around my hip. His fingers rested on the skin on the small of my back, just above my underwear. It was a bit of a squeeze, the two of us in a single sized bunk but it wasn't something either of us were willing to give up. It was practically our room and it was also my safe haven, a way to escape the unpredictability of everyday life on earth. We had the grounders to deal with, and now the new threat of the mountain men, not to mention the rebelling of some of our own people. But here, in the mornings and in the night time with him, I could breathe.
My mother hadn't been too pleased when I had told her about Bellamy. He shot chancellor Jaha! She'd practically yelled, What are you thinking?! Where is my sensible, responsible daughter gone?
I had been so angry that it was only Bellamy's calm reassuring fingers on my wrist that had stopped me yelling profanities at my own mother. Instead I had simply said, Things have changed chancellor. Your sensible, responsible daughter disappeared the day you sent her down to die. She had paled and I had felt guilt, but also pride. I was no longer Clarke Griffin, destined to follow in the footsteps of Abbey Griffin, toeing the line, making decisions based on rules. I was leader of the 100 and I was not about to let the Ark destroy everything that we had created here on Earth. Abbey had initially even discussed locking up all the members of the 100 as technically they were still criminals. That had been six months ago; things had progressed and the once 'delinquents' were now on their way to being 'trusted' members of Camp Jaha.
"What are you thinking so seriously about with that cute little wrinkle in your forehead?" Bellamy asked sleepily, and I glanced up to see that his eyes were half open, still hazy from sleep.
I grinned at him, leaning forward to press a kiss to the edge of his lip, "Just all of our problems."
He groaned, closing his eyes again, "Why? It's way too early."
I laughed, snuggling closer into the curve of his body, soaking in the warmth of his skin.
"Someone's gotta do it."
"Mmm," He replied smoothing his palm up my back and tangling it in my hand, "Come here."
I tilted my head toward him, capturing his lips in mine. It was a slow, warm, sleepy kiss and I pressed one hand to his chest, tangling the other one in his unruly dark hair. It wasn't the kind of kiss that led to sex, it was a good morning, I'm glad you're here, kind of kiss.
He rolled, pulling me so that I was on top of him, our bodies aligned, my skin pressed against his. He wrapped his arms around my back and I nestled my cheek into the juncture of his neck, comfort. I had come to appreciate hugs/embraces even more as of late. When life was chaotic and dangerous it was grounding to wrap your arms around someone and feel their life beating against your chest. Our relationship had done nothing but improve since the Ark had landed, we'd become an even more functional team and an even closer couple, and our ability to overcome obstacles had grown. We were both stubborn with strong personalities so we did argue and clash and bicker but it meant that we could be honest with each other and usually talk things out. If talking didn't work one of us would likely break and kiss the other one and we'd laugh and make sneaky snide comments and know that the other one was forgiven. It felt safe to know that we had each-others backs. I laughed as his fingers pressed into the sensitive skin on my sides, and I pulled myself upright so that I was sitting on top of him. His eyes were on mine, all warm and happy and sleepy and delicious.
"Hey there." He said, cheeks dimpling as he reached one hand up and traced my cheekbone with the outside of his hand all the way up to his pinky.
"Hey." I laughed, intertwining my fingers with his spare hand and using my other hand to push the lock of hair of his face.
"You have really bad bed head." He said, his grin widening as he took in my unruly mess of blonde hair.
"You really can't talk," I laughed, using both hands to muss up his hair, "You're a mess!"
"Oi!" He laughed, capturing both my hands in his before yanking me forward so that I fell against his chest, laughing as he relinquished my hands before running his fingers through my hair, causing even more knots. I laughed and tried to smack his hands away.
Eventually after wrestling around like immature children, we made our way slowly out of bed. I stretched and pulled on a pair of jeans, rolling them up at the ankles and started tying my boots on.
"You should definitely just walk around like that," Bellamy said, wriggling his eyebrows toward my jeans and bra combo.
I threw one of my boots at his face.
He caught it easily in one hand, smirking and chucking it back toward my feet, "Nice try princess."
I rolled my eyes at him and snatched his blue jumper off the bed. The Ark had brought with it more clothes which had been distributed evenly among the survivors and one of the items given to Bellamy included an extremely comfortable baggy fleecy jumper. I'd been given a couple of jackets but nothing as comfortable as the jumper, so naturally I'd claimed it.
"Are you trying to make me freeze?" He groaned in mock annoyance, "That's the comfiest jumper on earth and I never even get to wear it."
I stuck my tongue at him and made a show out of pulling it on and snuggling deeper into it.
He rolled his eyes, "Love ya too."
I tugged my fingers through my hair in an attempt to tame it and Bellamy pulled on the navy jacket that he'd been wearing when I first met him. I couldn't help but smile as I watched him shove one hand through his hair and yawn widely. I just couldn't kick the contentment I felt knowing that he existed.
"You coming princess?" He asked, holding one hand out toward me, his lip tilting up in a crooked grin, "Your hair is still a mess."
"No thanks to you!" I retorted, slipping my hand into his.
He laughed, dropping a kiss on my hairline as we exited our room.
The rain had calmed and was currently only a trickle. It was strange to walk out into such a busy orderly operation of people. At our camp by the drop ship we'd always been doing something but it was nothing in comparison to the movement that was always happening at Camp Jaha. Guards patrolled the fence line, people walked hurriedly toward different parts of the Ark on business, there were two grounders being ushered into the camp for a meeting with my mother. It was all serious and controlled in a way that made me miss our old camp.
"Hey!" Octavia bounded toward us from her room which was close by to ours, Lincoln at her heels, "Did you hear that Abbey is meeting with the grounder leader to discuss terms of an alliance later?"
She tugged me into a tight hug before punching Bellamy in the arm and hugging him. Watching the two of them never failed to make me feel nostalgic for what could have been, if siblings were a common occurrence. I couldn't help but grin in Octavia's presence, she had grown so much since landing on Earth. She was currently one of our best negotiators when it came to making terms with the grounders and they even seemed to have embraced her almost as one of their own. She even looked the part. Her long dark hair was loose with tight braids at her scalp, her blue eyes luminescent and lively. Beside her towering, tattooed boyfriend, they made a striking couple. Lincoln greeted Bellamy with a friendly handshake and gripped me in a one armed hug, Octavia having claimed his other arm. She had become my closest friend and Lincoln had become more than just an acquaintance to both Bellamy and I. I knew that it meant a lot to Octavia that her brother had come to respect and even like her boyfriend.
"Really?" I replied, "That's really good, I wasn't sure whether they were going to go through with the alliance!"
"Apparently they are," Octavia shrugged, "Lincoln and I have been talking to the clans, it'll be such a relief for us all if we don't have to fear a potential war with the grounders anymore."
Lincoln nodded, "I'd rather not be at war with my own people."
I nodded sympathetically and we all headed toward the large outdoor area that had been designated as the meal area. Breakfast was served for two hours in the morning, lunch two hours at midday and dinner two hours in the evening, allowing for shift workers to make it. Everyone had to take shifts in different sections of the camp, and cooking was one of them. I didn't mind working in the 'kitchens' personally but the washing up was torturous, especially if you got the dinner or the breakfast shift as there always seemed to be more dishes.
"Isn't Raven on breakfast this morning?" Octavia asked as we neared the section of the Ark where the breakfast was being served.
"Nope!" Raven replied, appearing at my side, still limping slightly from her old wound, "Murphy took my shift for me, I'm doing lunch instead."
Octavia wriggled her eyebrows at her in a very Blake way, "Oh really, that's awfully nice of him."
"What did you offer him in return?" I grinned, bumping my hip into hers.
"Shut up guys!" She groaned, unable to keep the grin off her face.
One of the stranger things that had happened over the past few weeks was the friendship that had blossomed between Raven and Murphy. After Raven and I eventually managed to build our friendship back to what it had been, and more, I realized that she had developed a bond with Murphy. Murphy had been pardoned upon the Arks arrival and seemed to have changed entirely. It didn't particularly surprise me as I had seen flashes of that changed person even as he attempted to hang Bellamy from his neck (needless to say the relationship between the two of them had not improved). In the past week or so that friendship seemed to have moved up a notch and Octavia and I had come to the conclusion that the two of them would eventually share a passionate kiss and embark on a crazy love affair.
We all lined up to get our breakfast which turned out to be a hot stodgy porridge, thankfully sweetened by the discovery of 'honey'. Honey was something that we knew existed but it wasn't until recently that we'd actually managed to find some of the stuff and ever since it had been one of my favourite things.
Murphy served us, causing Raven to blush and Octavia and I to made rude noises. Bellamy ignored him completely, the ice between them palpable. I had given up hoping that the two of them would make peace anytime soon, as they both had tried to have the other one killed and that wasn't something so easily forgivable.
We managed to find a mostly dry spot to sit and were soon joined by Finn, Jasper and Monty. Jasper had his goggles still attached to the top of his head and was gushing excitedly about the new batch of moonshine that the two of them had managed to brew secretly and the party they were planning on hosting that night. Monty was inhaling his porridge after spending a night shift in one of the newly formed laboratories, having landed himself a job in the production/discovery of different foods. Finn still wasn't a favourite in the group but he had been working hard to become one of the guards and slowly rebuilding his friendship with both Raven and I.
It was incredible to see how every single one of us had grown and I felt proud sitting there with them all, knowing that it had been less than a year since we had been a bunch of convicted criminals who had barely tolerated each other.
"Clarke?" I was forced out of my reverie by Jasper who was repeating my name in a sing-song voice.
I reddened when I realized that the whole group was watching me expectantly, "What?"
"Do you reckon we can sneak out tonight and have a little gathering in the woods?" Monty asked, having devoured his entire bowl of porridge, "It's been way too long since we all did something as a group and none of us are on any shifts tonight!"
Octavia was practically bouncing with excitement, "We can go back to the drop ship!"
Despite knowing how angry my mother would be if she discovered what we had done I couldn't help the excitement that bubbled up inside me, "We'll have to bribe one of the guards," I looked pointedly at Finn, "And we have to keep it a secret! Just tell Roma and Miller and the rest, no one else!"
"Yes ma'am!" Jasper grinned, touching his fingertips to his eyebrow, "I'll pack the moonshine, Raven tell Murphy and Bellamy you let Miller and Roma know!"
Bellamy grinned and I could feel a similar form of excitement emanating off his skin, "Miller is on guard duty at the moment, so I'll ask him who's on duty tonight."
"Excellent!" Jasper replied, shoving the last spoonful of porridge into his mouth before giving us a wave and practically skipping off toward his room, "Come on Monty!"
I laughed as they hurried off and I felt anticipation build inside me at the prospect of the night ahead and returning to our drop ship. Octavia was speaking animatedly to Lincoln about the drop ship and Finn and Raven were even involved in an excited conversation.
I felt Bellamy's fingers wrap around mine and he grinned widely at me, his expression one that never failed to make my heart sutter, "We're heading home princess."
Drop me a review and let me know what you think! Thank you for reading, you guys are excellent!
