12 years later

„I want to see Drogon so badly!" Daemon Martell exclaimed. He was leaning against the railing, watching King's Landing appear at the horizon.

„Will King Jon and Ghost be there too?"
„No, he's currently visiting his sister, the Queen in the North" his mother answered softly.

After years of war and winter, Westeros was finally starting to recover. It would take some more time to return King's Landing to its former glory, Coraline mused, but Queen Daenerys and her council were doing their best.

12 years ago, Coraline, Oberyn and Tyrion had rejoined Daenerys Targaryen and her army of unsullied in Meeren. They had built a strong alliance and made plans to conquer the West.

Westeros was already bleeding by the many wounds inflicted by war, and many people died when Winter arrived.

In the end, three Queens remained to rule the land: Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa Stark and Arianne Martell, Daemon's cousin.

Coraline watched her son searching for the shore at the horizon. He was tall for his age, and handsome, she thought proudly.

Straight black hair, blue eyes and a creamy brown skin, with his father's temper.

Oberyn stepped on the deck, dressed in his best red silk. Except for the small streaks of grey in his hair, he had not changed much from the Oberyn she had met in Oldtown years ago.

„Father, do you think they let me train with the Queensguard?" Daemon asked, his blue eyes filled with expectation.

Daemon Martell had learned how to fight with a spear, a bow, daggers and poison. His half-sisters adored him since he was the only boy, and they had done their best to pass on their skills.

„You may even become one yourself one day" his father said, grinning proudly, but his mother frowned, a worried look on her face. Daemon knew his mother didn't like the idea of leaving him alone in King's Landing, even if their family had many friends at court. His half-sister, Lady Nymeria, for example, was sitting in the small council with Tyrion Lannister, the Lord Hand.

It may had something to do with his mother's past, Daemon thought. He didn't knew much about his mother's family, only that she was not highborn.

When Daemon was younger, Lady Cora had told him bedtime stories about the waterdancers of Braavos, the thieves of Oldtown and the many spies and criminals of Sunspear. His mother had also taught him how to pick locks and to find secret passages in the palace, tricks his sisters didn't know about. It was their secret, and Daemon admitted that he hoped her stories to be true. A part of him even wished to live the same exciting adventures.

Yet the elegant Lady standing next to him didn't look like she could run the criminal underground of a famous city, and although his father allowed him to chose his own path, Daemon Martell was certainly not allowed to become a thief in the streets of Sunspear.

OoOoO

Oberyn laughed at his son's enthusiasm. He was happy that his youngest children would grow up in the Summer. Daenerys had brought peace and change, but the way to that had been hard for everyone.

Prince Oberyn had been separated from Dorne a long time, leaving Ellaria and his daughters behind. But as Daenery's advisor and as intermediary between the Martells and the Queen, he had to play his role at Dany's side.

After five years away from Dorne, he exchanged letters with Ellaria, allowing her to move on. They remained friends, and Oberyn realized Coraline had taken the place in his heart. Somehow, Coraline had managed to stay strong and calm during the overwhelming chaos of the war, helping Dany to control Meereen while raising their son, Daemon.

For her services to the Queen and to House Martell, Cora the thief was made Lady Cora, and soon Oberyn decided to marry the woman who had saved his life several times. Their son, Daemon Martell, had the prospect of a great future. Oberyn made his way to his wife and laid his hands on her hips, pressing her against his chest. She slightly tilted her head to the side, so that Oberyn could plant light kisses on her neck.

"Do you remember the last time we were in King's Landing?" Oberyn asked, his lips close to her ear.

"How can I ever forget? You were almost letting yourself get killed by that monstrosity" she replied, taking the edge off her words by smiling cheekily.

"Almost, love. And I even saved a Lannister..." he reminded her, stroking over her still exposed neck.

"I saved the Lannister" Coraline corrected him and turned around, facing the Prince. They both grinned, and before Oberyn could bend over to kiss her, Cora pushed him softly away, gesturing towards Daemon.

"I believe your son wants your attention"

Actually, Daemon was too distracted by the towers of the Red Keep to listen to his parents behind him. They were appearing in the distance, and Daemon could even make out the Great Sept, although it was currently being rebuilt.

Daemon smiled to himself. When his little sister Evana would be old enough, he would tell her everything about his adventures. The baby was only two years old, born right after the winter ended.

He would tell her about the Targaryen Queen, the Hand Tyrion Lannister, the tournaments and feasts and legendary fighters. He already imagined his name among the knights of the Queensguard: Ser Daemon Martell, only son of the Red Viper of Dorne.

The End.

I know some of you were not expecting the last chapter so soon, but I wanted to give Oberyn (and us) the happy ending he deserves :D The differences between the books and the show make it a bit difficult to think of a good plot, especially since we don't even know GRRMs endgame.
This is how I imagined it: Dany on the throne, Tyrion and Jon riding the two other dragons, while Sansa rules the North and Arianne Dorne. I guess the real ending is going to be much darker than mine and most definitely without Oberyn having any part in it :D

Anyways, I want to thank every single one of you who followed the story or wrote a review. You motivated me, you inspired me and you gave me awesome advice.
I also hope you enjoyed reading about Coraline and Oberyn. I'm glad I could contribute one of the few Oberyn-stories :D

Maybe you'd like to check out my other story for Game of Thrones: Citius, Altius, Fortius (BronnxOC)
