A/N: So, after a ridiculously long wait of forever (though not nearly as long as a lot of my other fics), I am updating this! Sort of. I wanted to ask my readers to tell me via review and/or PM which specific characters I should have have support conversations. Supports won't come up in the actual game storyline for another couple chapters or so, but to build up the chance of a support conversation happening at all I need to put people next to each other on the battlefield for an extended period of time. This is the perfect opportunity for me to add dimension to these characters, and for you readers to have a say in how it goes!
Alright, here's how it's supposed to work: each of the characters has a limited number of other people with whom they can have support conversations, and every one of those possible combinations have three levels of progression from the lowest, C, to the second, B, and then to A, which is the highest. There are many different kinds of relationships (romantic, rivalry, siblings, mentor, etc.), but no matter which category they fall under there is a restriction of only 1 A relationship per person and a limit of 5 support conversations in all for any one character. Basically, if you get a character to A with someone, they can still reach B with one other person OR have C with two other people, but nothing more than that. On the other hand, you could have one character have one support conversation with 5 other characters and then that would be all they could have - 5 different Cs and no As or Bs for them - or you could get to B with two characters and C with one, or B with one character and C with three others. Regardless, as there are exactly 33 characters that you can have with you, there will always be at least one character left without being able to have an A relationship at all if none of them die.
Speaking of character death - which I am loath to mention at all, but it must be addressed - whenever I have played this game in the past I have always done a soft reset if any of my characters die, but if you readers want me to I can treat it like a Nuzlocke; all deaths are permanent (with the exception of the main player character, since if they die then it's an automatic game over) and NO RESETTIN'! (Sorry, that's Animal Crossing; I have a tendency to channel Mr. Resetti on occasion, just ask Stephy285 about her story "I Remember" and she'll tell you.) Unlike a Nuzlocke, however, I won't end this fic if I get a game over; I might incorporate it either as a character having a bad dream which leads them to readjust their strategy, i.e., I will be more cautious with that character, or reference it as something like deja vu when that part of the battle occurs and things turn out differently (maybe something like, "Phew... I had the most horrible feeling he was going to kill me, but I survived.") AND I promise I will not kill my main character on purpose whenever another character gets killed just so I don't lose that character in the fic. Unless, of course, you guys want me to have every character survive the entire game? I don't have a problem ensuring that for you if that's the case, so let me know, alright?
Now, back on the subject of support conversations: since this is a Disney crossover fic and I am using well-defined characters that already have a dynamic all their own, if readers want to see interaction between characters whose counterparts are not compatible in the game, I will put my creativity to good use and see if I can't whip something up for you. How's that sound? And as for the one-A-relationship-per-person rule and 5-conversation-total cap, I kind of want to throw those out the window and say, "Readers, knock yourselves out! Request conversations until your fingers get sore and I will indulge you your every whim!" That being said, don't just tell me to put every character to A with every other character; give me specifics, because I am the queen of indecisiveness and cannot make trivial decisions such as these for myself.
Another thing: since the animals (horses, wyverns, and pegasi) are named after Disney characters too, should I make them sentient? I kind of want to, but I don't know if some readers would be turned off by that so I didn't at first. I fully intend to have their behavior reflect that of their character either way, but what level of intelligence should I give them? Should they be simple animals with almost no role other than as a mount? Should they basically have human mindsets but with no ability to speak, i.e., can they think for themselves and/or have actual thoughts that I would put in italics? Should I have the animals be able to talk but exclusively to other animals, and in that case should there be a language barrier between the different species or have there be a universal animal language that they all understand? Should I have them able to communicate mutually with their rider, and if so should it be only with them or should it also extend to anyone with whom their rider has a positive relationship? Or should they be perfectly able to talk just like any of the humans (in which case the humans will be completely aware and accepting of that fact all along)? I think having them able to talk would be an awesome twist, but I can't decide which of the above scenarios would be best.
Thank you in advance for your wonderful suggestions and feedback, and Happy Valentine's Day! ^.~ Togetic
