The girls landed at the front gates of Cross Academy. They looked around to get their bearings before the two ran behind a nearby shrub.
"The story starts during the day, so Day Class uniforms?" Shayla suggested, as she took out her phone for the disguise generator app.
"Sounds good," replied Roxie, she took out her phone as well. They set the disguises for the Day Class girls' uniform.
The disguise generator changes the user's clothing or species to blend into Canon. Since they're disguised as people the Canon Characters will normally see in the background, they have a small chance of being noticed. Mixed in with OOC Characters and the sometimes oblivious Sue, it'd be hard to pick them out. The generator is designed to look like the rose emblem of the academy. The Day Class and Night Class Uniforms are the only outfits programmed into the device, programmed by an app on their phones. It only took one second until the agents were wearing the Day Class uniform.
Shayla turned to her companion and informed her," So, the Sue's supposed to come during the start of the plot. It says she's greeted by Yuki and Zero." She switched her attention to the gates and began watching Day Class students enter. While Roxie decided to check the fanfiction on her smart phone.
Roxie found the last chapter in the story and briefly read it. "Get this: Kaname admits he loves her after she drowns Yuki and thanks her for doing it. He thanks her for killing Yuki because she was annoying and needy. After all they've been through; I expected the author to at least write about how upset he is and then make the Sue a shoulder to cry on. But no, we skip all the angst and go straight to happiness. Yuki and Kaname are supposed to love each other; it's basically the plot of the entire story. Yuki would do anything for him and vice versa. What good reason would Kaname have to treat her like she's nothing?" Roxie ranted to her partner.
"It seems like our author here wants a happily ever after. Wait… how does Kaname know Yuki was killed? It wasn't in the report."
"Plot hole, they don't explain. A bunch of reasons could have been written: another vampire told him, he smelled Yuki's blood and went to check, Kaien or Zero, okay probably not Zero, told him. Anything like that would've worked just fine," Roxie replied, still peeved from the earlier revelation. She sighed, wanting to get her mind off it. Roxie changed the subject," Is the Sue here? She's supposed to be dropped off by the family chauffeur." Roxie felt a little anxious.
No matter how many times the two partners went on missions, Roxie always felt the paranoia of an unexpected turn of events. Death by Mary Sue was still a possibility, especially against a vampire Sue, a possibility she never wants to experience. Her imagination would get the best of her and she would start thinking of the worst case scenario as being the most likely outcome.
Shayla helped keep her calm. She would rationalize Roxie's fears, help her see that they weren't such a big deal or might not happen at all. For that, Roxie was extremely grateful.
Shayla quickly looked around before spotting a girl in the Night Class Uniform, "I think that's her, the one with the shiny hair and the pretty dress." Shayla pointed to said girl.
Roxie looked up to see a girl in her late teens talking to Yuki and Zero. Her hair reflects the sun way too much. Roxie checked the beginning of the fic, and then showed it to Shayla, 'Golden waves of hair.'
"Of course, the author chose 'golden' instead of blonde. What's wrong with using blonde?" Shayla asked rhetorically. "Come on, we should get closer."
She silently crept behind a tree close to the Canon and Non-Canon characters; Roxie not far behind. Roxie had her back to the tree, reading the story; while Shayla was directly looking at the characters and eavesdropping on their conversation.
From this position, Shayla noticed the Canon Characters looked like they were in a trance. Yuki and Zeros' eyes looked lifeless. She took out her phone and opened the Character Analysis app. She pointed the camera on her phone towards Yuki and then Zero.
Yuki Cross: Canon Character. Out of Character: 76.28012%
Zero Kiriyuu: Canon Character. Out of Character: 62.64874%
Then she pointed it at the Sue.
Yuuka Mizushima: Non-Canon Character, Mary Sue
"How are you? My name is Yuuka Mizushima. I would like to speaketh to dearest Kaname. Thou hadst bewitched me into the deepest of love," Yuuka told Yuki.
Shayla sighed, "Saying 'thou' instead of 'you' does not make it the equivalent to a Shakespearean play."
"Dearest Kaname is sleepeth in his chamber. May we escort you to the dorm rooms at nightfall?" Yuki replied.
"You may, young mistress. Until then, would thou like to escort me around this fine facility?" Yuuka asked the two.
"Does she also know 'mistress' is the term for a woman having an affair with a married man? Yuki, is there something you'd like to share?" Roxie asked, scribbling down the charges. Shakespeare must be rolling in his grave, poor guy…
"We'd love to dearest mistress," Zero said. He led Yuki and Yuuka into the main building.
Shayla was surprised by this. Zero is actually happy and polite to a vampire?
Shayla paused for a moment, pondering why Zero's reading was lower than it would have been. She came to a conclusion, "Is that all Zero does? Walk around as a tour guide?"
Roxie referred back to the text, "Yes, but that's all he says. It's mostly Yuki and Yuuka talking about Kaname. Why?"
"Zero's reading was low; after this he's not going to show up for the rest of the fic isn't he?"
Shayla went over what her partner said," Did you say Yuki and Yuuka are talking to each other?" Roxie nodded, quickly skimming the story, "It's not going to be over soon. We need to watch when Yuuka finds out Yuki likes Kaname and declares them 'Rivals of Love'; so dramatic. Then we need to see their 'competition', and her interactions with Kaname."
"I can't wait. How much longer do we have until we can off her?" Shayla asked. She massaged her temples. I'm going to need that aspirin by the end of the day aren't I?
"A few days, but we don't need to live through all of them. Most of it is stalling. We have a lot of work to do," Roxie said, exasperated. She ran a hand through her hair.
Shayla brought out the portal generator and asked, "Where and when?"
"Outside the Headmaster's Office. She'll be given the Night Class uniform and announce her 'Declaration of War'. I'd say it's about an hour from now."
Shayla programmed the portal to Roxie's description. A swirling portal appeared in front of them. The pair jumped through and landed in the hallway outside the Headmaster's Office. Roxie sat down a few feet away while Shayla put her ear to the door.
"I want thou to have a wonderful time attending my school." The voice of Kaien Cross was heard through the door.
Yuki spoke next, "Does thou favor thine uniform?"
"Aye, its beauty is greater than the moon itself," Yuuka's voice was heard loud and clear.
The voices suddenly became silent. Shayla pressed her ear closer to the door. Roxie noticed this; she tapped Shayla on her shoulder and showed Yuki's dialogue, "… … … …"
"Add 'over use of ellipsis marks' to the Charge List; using just one is enough."
Yuki finally spoke, "May I ask how thou know dear Kaname?"
"You may."
"How do thou know dearest Kaname?" Yuki repeated.
"You're not supposed to ask again Yuki; you already asked once. Should I add 'making Yuki as dumb as a post' to the charge list?" Roxie said with a smile, scribbling down the charge.
The conversation continued, "Thou see, I am born into a noble family, my parents fully supported Mister Cross' ideology. We met during a gala a long time ago... "
Oh, she wants to be Cinderella. Shayla thought. The room became silent once again. After a few seconds, Shayla realized what was happening inside.
"Is this a flashback no one else can see, but somehow Yuki can? Rox, do I want to know what's in the flashback?" Shayla questioned her partner.
Roxie began to quickly read through this part, "Not really; it's a pretty average meeting. Oh, it's the same gathering where Aidou spoke with Kaname. 'I'm sorry for thine loss', 'No need to worry mistress', blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada… She falls for his looks and he acts reserved, nothing noteworthy."
"Wow, she actually does want to be Cinderella," Shayla commented.
After a few minutes of waiting and one intense game of chopsticks, the conversation in the office began again. "That is how I met my love," Yuuka said with a sigh.
"Thou seem quite taken with our dearest," Yuki said, boldly.
"Our dearest, OUR DEAREST?! How dare thee! I am the only woman who may love him! Thou are an insignificant fool!" Yuuka exclaimed. The shouting was so loud; Roxie could hear it clearly from her position. Shayla flinched and stumbled away from the door.
"That girl can yell. Shayla, are you alright?"
"I'm fine. A little ringing in my ear, but otherwise okay," she reassured before putting her ear to the door again.
"Thou will not tell me who I cannot love! I am infatuated with Kaname more than thou can comprehend," Yuki told the Sue.
Roxie was a little shocked by this. "Yuki seems a lot more courageous, don't you think?"
"Yeah, I need to scan her one more time; I don't like how this is going," Shayla commented.
"I will never be able to make you give up this love. Therefore, I claim thee… my rival in love," Yuuka declared.
Roxie snickered, "She likes her dramatic pauses."
"We will compete for Kaname's heart. Starting tomorrow morn, our battle begins; competing for our love's heart until our very last breath!" Yuuka explained.
Roxie suddenly stood up and pretended to dust herself off, "That's our cue to leave. Can you program it to outside the Moon Dorm, right before the switch off?"
Shayla brought out the Portal Generator and programmed it to Roxie's instructions; jumping in for the third time that day.
They landed outside the gates separating the Moon Dorms from a few female Day Class students, who arrived early to see their crushes.
The agents ran into the foliage surrounding the area. "We're going to be with the Night Class for a little while," Roxie told Shayla.
The Disguise Generator changed their outfits to Night Class Uniforms. Shayla brought out a portal to inside the foyer of the Moon Dorms. As they arrived, they saw many followers silently listening to Kaname as he spoke with Yuuka and Yuki standing beside her.
Shayla took her phone out and pointed the camera towards Kaname and Yuki.
Kaname Kuran: Canon Character. Character Rupture: 89.52637%
Yuki Cross: Canon Character. Character Rupture: 90.63816%
"Ah, how many moons has it been my dear?"
"Too many to count, Kaname," Yuuka replied, looking adoringly at Kaname.
"Aye, yet thine beauty hasn't diminished. Are you well?"
"I'm well my love."
"The dialogue in this is so romantic," Roxie told Shayla, bored out of her skull.
Ruka suddenly appeared beside Yuki, looking furious. "Thy love? Lord Kaname does not belong to thou! What right does thou have to call him thine," she accused.
"No consistency in the dialogue and I think, bad grammar. Oh, forgot lack of honorifics; Yuuka should be addressing Kaname as 'Lord Kaname' or 'Kaname-sama'," Shayla pointed out, taking out her phone to get a reading on Ruka.
Ruka Souen: Canon Character. Character Rupture: 89.73728%
"And 'making Ruka teleport'," Roxie added before scribbling down the charges.
"HOW DARE THEE!-" Yuuka screamed. How she was able to scream with three exclamation marks, not even the agents could comprehend. "I have every right to hast him. I have sufficient evidence that proves our eternal love. We met at a gala many years ago. It was fate that we were to gaze at each other's sparkling eyes. Therefore, we were bound to each other the moment we laid sight on each other's eyes. We have known each other for far longer than thou and him. Thou brain dead imbecile! Thy argument is invalid." Yuuka delivered this speech towards Ruka, whom looked at the Sue in disbelief.
"Really hamming it up on the drama there," Shayla commented.
"Nay it cannot be true. This does not prove he loves thou. Why do thou love this wench!" Ruka begged.
"She's right, though. Nothing in that argument proved Kaname loves Yuuka; they met a long time ago, so what?" Shayla said with little interest. "Also, isn't this Aido's backstory? Met at a soiree then decided to devote his life to Kaname?"
Roxie gasped, "Oh my god it is. Blonde hair, blue eyes with the same backstory: she's a genderbent copy of Aido."
Ruka continued, "What would thy parents want for thou?"
Kaname turned towards Ruka, a tearful expression on his face before walking up the stairs to his dorm room, shutting the door behind him.
"What was that? Why the heck is he crying? Why would mentioning his parents upset him so much that he starts crying? Isn't he supposed to be stoic? Never showing how upset he is actually," Roxie wrote furiously in her notebook as she spoke. "Should we give any effort in trying to understand the logic of this story?" she asked rhetorically.
"Hey, I stopped caring after she became a knockoff Disney princess."
"Look at what thou hast done! Thou hast upset him! Leave anon thou heartless dolt! Thou shouldst be asham'd of thee!" Yuuka argued.
Ruka huffed and ran out of the dorm. By now, both agents were fed up with the situation.
"Ruka didn't really hurt him. She asked him a question we all were just dying to know the answer to," Shayla said, sarcastically. She leaned against a nearby wall. "Where's Ruka going anyway? The switch off is supposed to happen in a few minutes and she have classes next."
"No idea, she disappears... "Roxie started to read through the next part of the story. She looked up from her phone, "Hey, doesn't Kaname have to go to class?"
The Night Class students were chatting amongst themselves about the new student and her close relationship with their Lord Kaname until Takuma asked all the students to line up in front of the gate. The two were in the middle of the group following a few steps behind Yuuka. Yuki was somehow able to appear in front of the gate without leaving the dorm.
Shayla raised an eyebrow, "add 'making Yuki teleport' to the charge list." Roxie nodded and was about to write in her notebook when the vampires began walking toward the school with Day Class students, mostly girls, watching their movement. She quickly hugged the book to avoid any of the students noticing and announcing her actions to the rest of the group. Even though the agents are in their disguises, that does not mean they cannot be noticed. Drawing the attention of the characters and more importantly, the Sue, is the last thing an agent would ever want.
Shayla caught little snippets of the conversations between the Day Class students. Did she really… Sure enough, the male students were praising the beauty and mysteriousness of Yuuka while the females were harping on how she cannot come between them and insert name of love interest. Way to feed your own ego.
"Adding 'bewitching the student body'," Roxie told her as she overheard the way too loud to be whispering students. The agents walked in silence until they reached the main building. They started walking slower and let the Night Class students pass by them. Eventually, they were at the back of the line and crept to the side.
"Let's just get some lunch, I really want to take a break," Roxie mumbled. "This is way too much for one evening." Roxie felt drained after listening to Yuuka go through her fantasy.
"Agreed," Shayla programmed a portal for the cafeteria for the next day.
"No way Kaien would allow this," Roxie said as she read through to the next chapters of the story. "They're having a singing completion for some reason." The two were sitting at a table at the far end of the academy's cafeteria. Having already finished their lunches, the pair decided to take a break before dealing with Yuuka again. None of the students took notice of the new arrivals.
"Is there anything important?" Shayla asked.
"No, just the author's thoughts on what makes Yuuka a better candidate for Kaname's affection. Basically, 'I can do this better than Yuki, therefore I deserve him more and he will choose me.' That is not how love works." She sighed and got up from her chair. "We might as well get it over with."
Shayla grabbed her bag and strolled to the far corner, Roxie doing the same. "It's about six-ish this evening in the courtyard." Shayla programmed the portal and jumped in. Roxie not far behind. They landed in the courtyard of the main building. The only difference from the normal, peaceful, area is the stage taking up half the space.
"Wow that was fast. I wonder how they convinced Kaien: 'Hey, I need to beat your daughter in a singing competition, can you let us build a stage?' That would have gone over well." Shayla stared up at the stage complete with lights, mic, and the biggest speakers she has ever seen.
"Hey, there's Kaname and Yuuka." Roxie pointed to the pair standing off to the side of the courtyard. They walked closer to eavesdrop on the conversation.
"Thou were brilliant in the classroom, Yuuka." Kaname's eyes looked glazed over and he had a soft smile. The expression made him seem love struck, but gave an overall disturbing atmosphere as he was staring directly into Yuuka's eyes without blinking. She, however, did not notice the creepy gaze.
"Thank you, Lord Kaname." Yuuka curtseyed.
"Do thy best, my dearest. I would like to give thou a gift for thy this eve, it is found in thy room. Please wear it," Kaname's smile twitched and eventually became wider. It looked very forced. Well, will you look at that. Kaname is fighting it, Shayla thought.
"I will. I will wear it, my love."Yuuka batted her eyelashes. "Is thou alright? Did the awful words of…that woman hurt you?" Yuuka spat out the last part. Looking worried, she touched Kaname's shoulder. His features contorted until it came back to the smile. "I am, my sweet.-" Enough with the nicknames, geez… Roxie was very tired of the "lovey dovey" dialogue. "She confused my mind on where mine heart belongs, now it is clear, I-"
"ATTENTION CONTESTANTS," Kaien's voice blasted through the speakers. "Please prepare thyself for the competition."
"That was convenient," Shayla remarked.
Kaname spoke to Yuuka," Best of luck to thou." She replied with," Thank you, but it is not needed." The Sue smiled and walked away, most likely to go back to the Night Class Dorms. Kaname stood there before walking to the front row of the spectators.
"Let me guess, the next Disney trope is getting a dress. That's the present Kaname was talking about." Shayla asked in a bored tone.
"Yep, the big, fancy, sparkly, poofy, dress," Roxie answered. "The one every girl wants to wear when they become a princess." Roxie thought before adding, "all Sues want to wear a dress, or get a dress, or pick out a dress and describe how amazing they look wearing it." She looked around to see students flooding into courtyard.
"Can we find a spot in the back? I really don't want to be anywhere near the speakers when the contest starts." The two were at the back of the gathering crowd of students. They sat down and took out their phones and ear buds.
"Is this a concert for the entire school?" Shayla wondered. She spotted several Day Class students speaking to Night Class students. "Pretty much," came Roxie's short reply. She was scrolling through the songs on her phone.
"Great idea, let vampires mingle with potential dinner without supervision." Shayla lay down on her back.
Kaien's voice rang through the courtyard, "ATTENTION STUDENTS, NOW BEGINS THE COMPETITION BETWEEN YUKI CROSS AND YUUKA MIZUSHIMA! PLEASE WELCOME, YUKI CROSS!"
"Ah, my ears!" Roxie covered her ears at Kaien's shouting. Shayla winced. A person shouting into a mic was never pleasant. When the ringing died down, it was oddly silent.
Yuki walked onto the stage looking shy. "Get ready, here comes the singing." Roxie started her playlist and covered her ears. Shayla just started her music, just in case she had to drown out the singing.
She was singing a pop song that came out recently. The author was probably trying to pander to their readers. Yuki's singing was a little off key but she still sounded like a normal person. By the end of the song, the agents were the only ones clapping. Tough crowd, Shayla thought.
Roxie turned to Shayla," Three songs each, Yuki finishes her next two then Yuuka singings her three."
Yuki continued with her other two songs. Again, they were pop songs and the pair were the only ones clapping as well.
"Not much variety in the song choices," Shayla commented.
"Agreed. From Yuuka's song choices, I only know two songs, but those songs have really high notes. I think you get the idea. I wonder when my ears will stop ringing this time."
"NOW, PLEASE WELCOME YUUKA MIZUSHIMA!" Yuuka walked onto the stage wearing a white dress with a wide skirt covered in crystals. "Kind of looks like a disco ball," Shayla commented. The two agents had to cover their ears, Yuuka was definitely going to try to hit all the high notes. After the first song, everyone in the audience was cheering, except the agents who had their hands still over their ears due to the loud cheering. The same thing continued for the second song. At the end of the third song, Yuuka waved her arms like she was hula dancing only for bands of water to appear, arrange themselves in the shape of a bird. Then an ice sculpture of a swan materialized behind her.
"Great, water powers. The most generic ability used in Sue Stories," Shayla groaned. Roxie nodded her head in acknowledgment and quickly wrote the charge down. "Well, we can confirm that she is a copy of Aido now."
The loud cheering was at the height of its volume at the end of the song and Yuuka took an over the top bow. The agents were glad the singing was over. They walked to the side of the building and away from the dispersing crowd.
"Finally, it's done," Roxie said, getting up and holding a hand to her partner.
"Does she ever stop shouting?" Shayla took the hand and stood up.
"Not sure. Hey, I think I left a roll of duct tape in my backpack. When we charge her, want to cover her mouth with a piece?" Roxie joked.
"Why do you have duct tape in your bag?" Shayla asked.
"A friend wanted help duct taping himself to a wall. I thought it would be funny so I helped. I forgot I left it in my bag," Roxie replied. "Would you believe that concert was six chapters long?"
"What? Six chapters for-"Shayla looked at time on her phone,"-less than half an hour?"
"It was probably just filler. Well, on the bright side we get to kill her now," Roxie said with a smile.
Shayla perked up, "Finally."
"Tomorrow night at the fountain. But first we have to be at the Day Class Dorms right now. Yuuka slipped a note under Yuki's door to tell her to come to the fountain during Yuki's performance." Shayla programmed the portal for Roxie's description. The portal appeared once again and the two found themselves in front of Yuki's dorm room.
Roxie laid on her stomach and peered inside the room from the space made from the door. "I see the note. Hang on, I think I can reach it…" She slid her fingers into the gap at the bottom and pulled out a folded piece of paper. "Yep, this is it."
Roxie unfolded the note and handed it to Shayla.
Dearest Miss Yuki Cross,
Our battle of voices has won the heart of our dear beloved. His heart wanes from the sole thought of deciding which of our hearts he shall choose. I would like to propose a second declaration. Come to the fountain at midnight.
-Yuuka Mizushima
"Ready?" Roxie asked her partner. She slipped the note into her pocket, better to keep Yuki out of the fight. Shayla had a portal programmed for the fountain ten minutes before midnight, relieved that their mission would be over soon.
"Always," came Shayla's reply before they stepped through.
Yuuka was standing in front of the fountain looking around for her rival. A young woman walked out from the foliage with a gun in her hand. She stopped a few feet directly in front of the vampire.
"Yuuka Mizushima?" asked Shayla
"Yes, it is I, who art thou?" It was at this moment Roxie ran from her spot with a roll of duct tape. She tackled Yuuka to the ground. Roxie had her face down, pulled out the end of the duct tape, held Yuuka's arms behind her back and proceeded to wrap the tape several times around her wrists.
"WHAT THOU DOTH? RELEASE ME, MY DEAREST KANAME SHALL RESCUE THY FAIR MAIDEN-" Roxie slapped a piece of tape onto her mouth. Then pulled Yuuka up to a kneeling position. Shayla walked forward until the gun was placed to her forehead. She took out the piece of notebook paper Roxie was writing on throughout the mission.
" Yuuka Mizushima, you are charged with: having metallic hair, making Yuki, Zero, Ruka and Kaname act out of character, Kaname specifically for making him cry and trying to defend him from a nonsense argument, controlling him into buying gifts, speaking in 'Shakespearean', miss use of the word 'mistress', overuse of the ellipsis marks, making Yuki dumb as a post, telepathically sharing memories while having no such ability, copying Cinderella and Aido Hanabusa exactly, teleporting characters, breaking school regulation making Kaien Cross agree to a competition allowing the Day and Night Class to interact that could have ended up as potential dinner, water powers, attempted murder of Yuki Cross and annoying agents with constant yelling. Because of your crimes against decent character writing, you are sentenced to death. Do you have any last words?" She slipped the paper back into her pocket.
Roxie ripped the tape off Yuuka's mouth. "MY DEAREST KANAME WILL SAVE ME! THY WRETCHED S-" and the tape was back on.
Roxie stood up and unsheathed her katana. She moved in front of the kneeling Sue. Shayla moved to Yuuka's side, the gun still pointed at her head. Roxie stabbed her through the heart. Yuuka stiffened, her blood splattering onto Roxie's clothes, before bursting into rainbow sand.
"I forgot we had to deal with the blood," Shayla said, holstering her gun. A Sue's blood is different from a human's: it's glittery. Sparkly, red blood that looks like it came from a tube of glitter glue. Not helping the case of sparkling vampires.
"Me too, I'm going to wash it all off when we get back," Roxie replied, she turned and walked back into the bushes. Their backpacks were laid out behind a nearby tree. Roxie opened hers and retrieved a cloth. She proceeded to wipe the blood off her katana and the smears on her arms. Sheathing her katana, Roxie carried both backpacks in one hand and the bloodied cloth in the other. Shayla had her phone out, the portal appearing when Roxie handed off Shayla's bag. "Here you go."
"Thanks." Shayla starred at the fountain. "It might be a while before we come back here again. Who knows when another mission will come up."
"Yeah, I never thought I would say I was happy to come back to school." They took the moment to look around.
Shayla tapped Roxie's shoulder, "Come on, we have a report to write."
[Roxie: Hello dear readers. Sorry for the long wait. School has been more of a hassle than I thought with exams, assignments, the district strike and a rush to get all my projects in before the summer for report cards. Anyway, here are a few things I think authors can improve on, the ones I emphasize are "Making a Character Upset and Then Having Their Love Interest Defend Them"," Passing Off a Canon Character as an OC ","Music as Filler" and "Female Canon Characters Suddenly Become Bullies". Keep in mind these are our opinions.
Ocs with Blonde Hair:
This is more of an observation. I noticed a majority of ocs had blonde hair. There's nothing wrong with having blonde hair, but it felt like there wasn't much of a variety in character designs at the time. Oc stories started to all mash together, it became hard to tell the difference and pick out specific stories. It is certainly better but there are still a lot of stories where the oc fits this description. Also, I've seen the word golden used more than blonde when describing their hair. I just wanted to take it literally in the story hence Yuuka has golden hair.
Flashbacks:
Another observation: whenever a flashback is written to explain the oc to other characters, they don't usually say the oc told the character anything. Sometimes what happens is: Canon Character asks oc about their backstory, oc has a flashback, end of flashback, and now the character knows about whatever happened in the flashback with no explanation from the oc and no reason to be able to see the flashback.
Making a Character Upset and Then Having Their Love Interest Defend Them:
I have only seen this twice, but it really bugs me. The stories I have read made a character get upset over a problem said character has either already overcome or showed to not be bothered by. Then the love interest comes and protects or defends that character from the people who brought this problem onto the initial character. The love interest then proceeds to lecture these people. It feels forced and unrealistic, unless it's a problem that hasn't been fixed in canon yet. Oh, and making the initial character suddenly burst in tears. Do you really expect an overly happy or calm and calculating character to suddenly break down crying with no actual build up? If you decide to use this plot in a story, then I suggest building up the characters problem bit by bit and then making them cry. Deep emotional problems happen over a long period of time and have many variables that cause it. At the very least, it might make it believable. Also, if the love interest has to lecture a person, make sure it is the right person. Having the problem make sense would definitely help as well.
Female Canon Characters Suddenly Become Bullies:
Why are female canon characters written to act like jerks? Most characters are probably not that self-centered in canon. Making a female come between the character and the oc is fine, cliché though, but usually the female is written despising the oc for some vague reason. Sometimes they only speak a few sentences and the female hates the oc. There's no good reason for them to hate each other yet and again it feels forced. Either give a good reason or don't have them dislike each other. A love story does not need to have a person come in between a couple, A.K.A. a love triangle.
Passing Off a Canon Character as an OC:
I have seen this in every fandom I have ever read OC stories for. If an OC is going to be an exact copy of a canon character, there is no point for the OC to exist. Just use the canon character instead. Also, if a canon character is paired with an exact copy, (same personality, appearance, powers, etc.) this is lazy writing. Please understand that two people do not need to have the same personality, or have exactly the same likes and dislikes to be in a successful relationship. Having similarities and differences are what makes each person individual.
Dresses and Events/Parties:
In a majority of romance fanfiction, a party is thrown and the oc wears a dress. Both of them are getting repetitive. I have no problem with the party or event itself, just that it is repetitive. The dresses on the other hand have become so overdone, it seems like it is part of a checklist for every oc romance fanfiction. Please stop making excuses for the oc to wear a dress.
Music as Filler:
I have seen an author put the plot of the story on hold and have the characters sing songs. I don't recommend writing filler at all because the reader came specifically for whatever the story is about. To side track and write which character said which line, that chapter offers the same entertainment value as listening to the song.
Bashing a Character:
I honestly have no problems with other people bashing characters. Discussing why a character is written poorly as well as how a writer may be able to improve them is something I enjoy. I think why bashing fics are written is because an author wants to let out their frustration and it works. My only request if you write one: make it funny and entertaining. That way the author and reader will enjoy it too.
I think that's everything I may need to explain. Review or PM me if there's anything you would like me to explain further. This is all based on Shayla and my own opinion. If you end up disagreeing with us, that is alright. Constructive criticism is welcomed; I'm still an amateur at writing and I appreciate the help.
I'd like to start another series of SSI, but this time in Black Butler. I am not abandoning this story and will take turns writing both stories. I will post whenever I can.
