Song of Unrequited Love
A soft tune resonates around. A sad yet beautiful song played on the piano inside an empty mansion. A young blonde girl sat in front of the piano, fingers dancing across the keys gracefully. Her fingers press the familiar notes and keys yet her mind is somewhere far.
Her heart bleeds, shatter and broken. She was a fool to think that there could be something else. Something she wanted to happen between her and the hunter from the Seam. She knew from the start that she stood no chance against the girl with the bow and arrow yet somewhere deep inside her, hope blossomed. Hope that Gale Hawthorne will see her as a girl, a woman. All those times they spent together when her friends, Katniss and Peeta, were inside the Arena gave her the hope that there could be something other than 'friendship' between her and Gale.
It hurts. She shouldn't have gone into the woods. It was their sanctuary. She was a mere trespasser.
She crossed the fence, into the woods in hopes of seeing Gale. She needed some company, someone to talk to. If she wanted to talk to Gale, the woods would be the perfect place.
She learned to move stealthily over the years. Quiet steps and careful movements. She cannot afford any unwanted sound if she wants to snoop around the Mayor's mansion.
As soon as she neared the clearing, she saw them. Katniss and Gale. Engaged in a lip-lock. She froze on her tracks.
She felt it. The pain slowly creeps into her heart. Tears started to pool around her eyes, falling one at a time.
How can she be so stupid? It was their woods. Of course Katniss was bound to be there. Katniss, the girl everybody loves. The Capitol. Her best friend, Peeta. Gale.
Gale.
Gale Hawthorne.
She knows Gale loves Katniss. She knew she never stood a chance. Who was she to feel jealous? There was never a Madge and Gale. Only Katniss and Gale. Jealousy was uncalled for.
It was a painful sight. She cannot bear to watch the scene anymore.
She wiped her tears, turned her back, and walked away quietly. Away from the pair. Away from Gale and Katniss.
She continues to play the sad melody. She wants nothing but to extinguish the pain in her heart. Music is her outlet. However, no matter how long she plays, the pain remains.
She smiles as she ended her piece. The pain will soon come to an end.
Bombs will soon be dropped. The Mayor's residence first, then the Seam and Town.
How she knew?
Snooping around her father's study turned out to be useful.
Escape, however is impossible because the new head peacekeeper has his eyes set on them.
Her father was with her mother and she was alone. She opted to give her parents privacy in their last moments. She finds solace in being alone anyway.
In the silence of the night, she hears a distant sound. It was a voice of a man, shouting a name. It was coming closer and closer.
Someone pounds on her front door. She stands up and goes to drive away the person at the door before it was too late.
Surprise greets her when she sees the person on the other side of the door.
"We have to leave now Undersee."
The person pulls her out of the house, carries her like a sack, and runs away from the house. When they were meters away, the first bomb drops.
