Chapter 5: All Out Brawl
Previously on Ray Chronicles. Ray continues walking aimlessly around Graza with no plan or information to go on in his search for these so called "Runes" as the only hope of ever returning to his own home/world. Call it luck or fate, Ray stumbles upon a group of corrupted knights attacking a nearby family in a desperate need of a hero…
"Who are you?" one of the knights ordered towards Ray.
Knowing a fight is inevitable, Ray musters up his courage as he brandishes his weapon, pointing the blade towards his foe.
"You fellas don't need me to tell ya, take one glance at me." Ray replied.
Not to his surprise, Ray gets the same response like before in the city, shocked expressions and glares of bad intentions directed towards him.
"That armor…no mistake, that's a Macawnis warrior. Kill him!" the leading knight shouted.
Mere seconds later, the group of knights charged at Ray while the crow family fled the scene to avoid the crossfires. The daughter of the family with the help of her sister put down their wounded mother as they watch in awe of their hero in the strange armor. Although he fought unusually, the Orderly knights were struggling to even land a blow on their adversary.
One knight after the other, Ray defeated them with little exertion or effort.
"This sword fighting business isn't so bad." Ray commented, impressed by his own ability to adapt to his new sword. Two more knights engaged Ray with long spears. With a simple parry by thrusting is sword upwards, Ray seized control of the two spears in one arm and threw them aside. Pointing his blade at the two trembling knights, Ray said: "Consider this a blessing that I let your platoon live. Now go scurry back to your home."
One of the knights complied and fled the scene. However, the other remained still with his eyes flaring in pure anger.
"Y-you dare mock us and our stature!? I'll show you why I was made Captain!" the knight flung off his helmet and unsheathes a sword from his hip.
Ray almost stumbles back in horror as he recognizes the knight before him, a good friend of his from his world.
"E-Egil!? Egil Masters!? Wait, what're you doing here man!?" Ray demanded. His question was left unanswered as his friend lunged forward with a dashing slash with his weapon. "Dude chill! It's me, Ray!" the crow pleaded while dodging Egil's attacks.
Nearby, the knights that lost to Ray stood up and started chanting: "Egil! Egil! Egil!" as if they're were cheering for him. Confused, Ray went on the offensive to subdue Egil in order to get the answers he needed to clear the air.
Unlike the other knights Ray fought, Egil's far more powerful than the rest of the enemies he fought. Ray dodged a fatal slash from Egil, but the damage still took its toll on the crow. Egil charged forward and kicked the sword out of Ray's hands before thrusting his weapon at Ray's chest.
The sword ceased towards Ray as the crow used his hands to stop the sword from plunging into him. The struggle went on as Egil barked out madly for Ray to surrender, which only fueled Ray's rage to fight back.
In anger, Ray whipped Egil's sword out of his hands and plunges it into Egil's left leg. The white macaw in armor crumbles in pain, screaming curses into the heavens from the immense pain of his own blade into his leg.
The fight ended in Ray's favor, but the damage Ray inflicted to Egil slowly brought the crow back to the sudden realization of his brutal actions.
"Oh shoot! Egil! I'm so sorry! I didn't know what got over me and-" Ray apologized, only to be cut short as Egil whipped the blade out of his leg and swung it madly at Ray. The sudden attack glances Ray's cheek, forcing him to stumble back.
Fallen, Ray whips around to spot Egil charging at him with his sword at the ready to finish him for good. Ray stumbles back and snatches his own weapon, bracing himself to do the unthinkable.
"…don't falter to the illusions."
The merchant's voice echoed in Ray's mind of the statement. Ray thought for a moment and remembered the merchant speaking gibberish about magic and all sorts of fantasies that toy with the mind to whoever stumbles in this world. It hit him, this wasn't Egil, this was someone portrayed in his friend's image.
"I've heard something about this. Perhaps…"
That said, Ray rolls out of the way of Egil's attack and plunges his sword in the white macaw's chest. His foe drops his weapon as Egil rolls over to his side, drained to continue fighting as well as his life. Hovering over the deceased imposter, a strange aura emitted in the shape of some tome. And Ray recalled his mission, collect enough runes to gain the power to return home. This being the first Rune, Ray wonders what tricks this world will baffle him with to gaining these runes.
