A/N: Okay, so, no smut but a sort of filler chapter? Idk man. It's short. I can't help but think that last chapter wasn't a satisfying ending. Here's what happens two years later. I feel like this whole fic was rushed and I really hope I develop my writing skills better as well as my grammar.
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters. All rights goes to their rightful owner. Still shipping Poseidon and Hades for some reason. Guilty.
Psychokinetic Disaster
VIII - EPILOGUE
It had been two years since Nico escaped from the laboratory.
Said sixteen-year-old sat and rested his forehead against the cool surface of marble. For those past two years, Percy decided that Nico would celebrate his birthday on the day he and Annabeth found him on the shore that fateful night; which was the same day this year. Every month, he came by the graveyard to visit a friend of his. Or who used to be his friend.
On the tombstone made of marble was written "Reyna Avila Ramírez-Arellano" in cursive. They hadn't known each other for more than two days but it was like the girl had earned her place in Nico's heart. Maybe it was just him not familiar to being exposed to friendly people. He was saddened by her death and sometimes, he would fall asleep leaning on her grave. He smiled and dusted the dirt that started to cake the engraved stone. If only he had the ability to talk to the dead...
Nico wondered if there was someone out there with that kind of ability.
"Hey, you." A familiar voice greeted from behind.
Nico closed his eyes and relished the arms that wrapped his middle. He leaned back into his boyfriend's chest and looked up. He received a peck on the lips that made him smile benevolently. "Here again, I see." Percy whispered. The male had grown messier locks in which Annabeth had sworn to cut it one day if the male didn't. It was all swept to one side, giving the eighteen-year-old a look like he just got out of bed. His green eyes had grown a tint darker but would often brighten when he was with Nico.
"Wouldn't be a surprise." Nico mumbled, nuzzling his neck. Percy hummed in agreement. He had never met Reyna but if she had a place in Nico's heart, then Percy would respect her even for Nico. The male readjusted and sat cross-legged on the grassy ground. He pulled Nico's hand to his lips and kissed his knuckles. The teen sighed in content.
"You two are so in-love, it makes me sick." A female's voice interrupted them.
Nico chuckled as he looked up and found the daughter of Ares along with his other friends coming their way. Over the course of the years, the three, Nico, Thalia, and Clarisse, had become friends. Thalia waved a hand at the couple, side-by-side with her brother, Jason Grace. The blonde had grown a closer bond with the raven-haired teen. They became good friends as they talked more; about how he saved Percy's ass every time people from the Andromeda came around even if it were false alarm.
Clarisse had found her own love interest but the girl refused to admit it. The guy's name was Chris Rodriguez. It was dangerous to let other mortals know of people like them but Clarisse defied that rule. Chris was a sweet guy towards his girlfriend. He manages to calm her when she's at her worst. Clarisse never admitted they were going out but the group figured it out when she turned a soft side for Chris.
"Nice to see you too, Clary." Percy waved a hand. Thalia sat beside Nico and stared down at the grave. Apparently, she knew Reyna. It was rare for them to befriend scientists in their time at the laboratory. Just thinking about it made Nico shudder. Percy felt this and held his hand tighter. The teen smiled and scooted closer to his lover.
"It's Clarisse, seaweed brain." Clarisse rolled her eyes. Chris meekly followed her and smiled at the group. "You're hanging out with Annabeth too much." Percy countered. The girl snorted and crossed her arms. "By the way, where is she?" Jason looked around as if expecting the blonde to pop out. Nico smiled lightly. "She finally got the guts to ask Piper out."
"Nice." Thalia grinned and sat back against the tombstone. "Those two have been at each other and the other doesn't even know it." She relaxed. The group nodded at her statement. It's weird how time could bring strangers closer. If Nico had never made it out of the laboratory, or if he hadn't save himself from the fall after escaping, who were these people going to end up with? How was Thalia going to meet her brother and how would Clarisse meet Chris? More importantly, what would happen to Percy? It was all a bumpy road for everyone but Nico didn't regret escaping. If he had a chance to go over it once more, he wouldn't change a thing.
Percy looked at his boyfriend. He had that look again where he was thinking too deeply. Lines marred his forehead as he furrowed his eyebrows from thinking. "Hey," he startled the boy by kissing the temple of his head. "Relax." He grinned. The teen smiled and kissed his cheek.
"You two look so cute. I kinda wish I had someone with me too," Thalia cooed. Jason placed his hand over his heart. "What, you're not satisfied with just your brother?" He feigned hurt. Clarisse gagged and laughed. Thalia shook her head at her. "Although that may come out wrong, you're still the little brother I love." She stood and gave Jason a noogie. "H-hey!" Jason grumbled. He tried but failed at pushing his sister off.
Nico watched as Thalia laughed at her brother's hair flying in different places. It was a good day for him. It was nice having friends close by. Nico felt Percy nudge his side. "We better head back or Annabeth will be at us again. We'll see you guys," The green-eyed teen—or man, now that he's eighteen—stood with Nico's hand entwined with his.
"'Kay. We'll see you next time." Thalia grinned. Jason waved and Chris smiled at them. "Don't break him, Jackson! He might be sixteen but he still looks pretty fragile!" Clarisse smirked. Cue the couple's blushing faces. The group chuckled as Percy led Nico home after giving their goodbyes to Reyna and their friends. It turned out that Nico didn't stay with his dad. He stayed with Percy and his friends. They may have separate homes but they visited each other from time to time. Percy fumbled with the keys as he opened the door. Nico giggled at that.
"What are you rushing ab—"
"Surprise!"
Nico took a step back as a group of people greeted them at the same time. He scanned the party of people and saw Annabeth holding out a huge plate with a cake on it. The cake's icing was black and had small skull patterns on the side. Piper was at the blonde's side, smiling wide at the couple. Nico saw Poseidon standing with them and his eyes widened when he saw his father. The man wore dark pants and a black dress shirt. He ran over to him and unabashedly hugged the life out of his father.
It had been a year since he saw him; the last time being whether or not he stayed with him. He knew his father along with the other Olympians still had to track the other laboratories scattered about the globe. The thought of plenty others just like him, trapped and abused, made him cringe. He hoped, one day, there would be someone who rescued them. That's where the Olympians come in. But they do a pretty lousy job at it, staying in their seats, monitoring. If it weren't for Nico, none of his friends would've befriended Thalia and Clarisse. Albeit, Hades did help him so he'll give him that.
Hades placed a hand on his head. Even if it weren't much, it was all the contact he needed—even if it was just a little. "Dad," Nico muttered against the man's clothing. Hades finally broke and hugged his son. "Doing good, I suppose." He said after breaking their hug. Nico nodded and grinned. He was given a slice of his cake and so was his dad. Annabeth whispered a quick happy birthday and proceeded to hand out pieces of cake to everyone.
Meanwhile, Percy gave Nico his time with his dad. He knew his boyfriend would love to talk to his dad for the amount of time they've been apart. Percy went and talked to his dad. "Hey kiddo," Poseidon ruffled his hair. Percy laughed and pushed the hand away.
"I'm not a kid anymore, dad." He smiled. The man smiled and nodded.
"Whatever you say, old man."
"You're the old man here, old man." Percy stuck his tongue out.
"Oh, stop acting like kids and here's your piece." Piper intervened. Percy and Poseidon thanked her later. "So, little gothic kids are your type." Poseidon hummed as he took a bite from his food. "He can be a ball of sunshine if he wants to be. In fact, he's like a kitten. Soft, cuddly, and cute." Percy's eyes brightened. He looked over his shoulder and smiled genuinely. His father saw this and appreciated how Percy found someone he truly cared about.
"Take care of him, Percy." Poseidon said. Percy glanced back and nodded. "He's a keeper." He chuckled.
"So dad, where're you staying now that Jupiter and his crew decided to travel the world?" Percy asked. Poseidon leaned back into his seat on the couch. "They didn't particularly separate ways, Percy. They regrouped with others, much like them. I occasionally stay with your mother if I'm not working. Hades and I, we regrouped with others and found another organization against the Andromeda. Persephone is a great leader and I think Hades got her attention." Poseidon chuckled.
Percy smiled at that but then frowned. "It just never ends, huh? How many branches does the Andromeda have? Didn't you kill Gaea?" he said.
"Yes, Gaea is dead. But there are other people out there who're close to her; close to being an identical. They've owned other laboratories and are currently looking for more people like Nico. So, yes, the cycle doesn't stop from there." Poseidon sighed heavily as if the weight of the world was placed on his shoulders.
From the side, Hades had explained the same to Nico. Nico rubbed his arms as his father explained. "I hope they get out of there soon." He absent-mindedly replied, lost in his thoughts of teens younger than him being caged and locked in. Hades sometimes admired his son's optimism but it could be seen farfetched. "Son," it was rare he called him that and that got Nico's attention.
"Chances of escaping are slim. You were lucky—no, more than lucky. The fates decided to be kind to you. Getting out alive is one thing. But being brought back twice and managing to escape, that's more than miracles could manage." He swept Nico's bangs aside. The teen's eyes were downcast and sad.
"But I promise you we will do everything to help them. We will ruin all of Andromeda's facilities and end this madness." Hades voice lowered. Nico nodded and smiled weakly. "So, Persephone..." He changed the topic to lighten the mood. Hades raised an eyebrow. "Yes, she's a great leader and knows how to handle the situation when the problem arises. Might I say, better than Zeus." He muttered. Nico chuckled and found himself enjoying his father's company.
Night came and they had to go. Piper left after giving Annabeth a goodbye kiss on the cheek. Poseidon and Hades gave Nico one last "happy birthday" before walking off together. Percy shut the door and Annabeth breathed out. She plopped on the couch and snuggled, falling unconscious soon. Nico followed Percy to his room where they both got ready for bed and cuddled. Nico nuzzled his head into Percy's chest and inhaled his sweet scent. The male wrapped his arms around his lover and dug his nose in his curly dark locks.
"I hope this birthday made you happy." Percy whispered. Nico nodded and looked into green eyes. He pecked his lips softly and stared. "It did. Although, knowing that there are others makes me guilty that it had to be me to escape. Why not give the others a chance?" Nico frowned. Percy didn't like the look his boyfriend gave off and hugged his tighter to his chest. "That chance was given to you," he buried his head in the crook of the teen's neck. He exhaled through his nose and kissed the skin there.
Nico shivered and pulled him closer. "I just feel bad. I just wish these assholes would leave them alone. What have they ever done wrong?" He began to yawn and close his eyes. Percy grinned and kissed his cheek once more. "They will escape, Nico. They will." Percy grew tired and yawned. "Goodnight. I love you, Nico." He mumbled.
"I love you too, Percy." Nico responded lightly before the pair fell asleep happily in each others' arms.
