"I wasn't that bad!" Kevin reasoned as he kicked a rock with his polished shoe. He slung his beige jacket over his shoulder and slumped forward as Gwen scoffed.
"Kevin, you ordered half the meals on the entire menu and then ate it in ten minutes." She exclaimed, her sweet voice ringing in his ears.
Kevin frowned and took in her form in the moonlight, her body beautifully fitted in a soft blue frock for their special occasion. "So?" He gruffly challenged. She turned to give him an exasperated look.
"And you didn't use utensils." She added before shutting her eyes to smooth her soft ringlets of hair over her shoulder, making his stomach jump violently. He quickly looked away to hide the growing blush on his cheeks.
"I'm a big guy. Being trapped in the null void made me hungry." He mumbled, stuffing his hand in his dress pant pocket. Gwen simply sighed and they continued their silent walk in the darkened street. After a few dazed seconds of the sound of footsteps echoing throughout the neighborhood, Kevin noticed Gwen had stopped. He turned around to see her impatiently waiting on the sidewalk.
"What?" He asked, earning a roll of the eyes from the young girl.
"This is my house, Kevin." She said, motioning to the obvious pale house illuminated by a single street light.
"Oh, right," Kevin dumbly said, an embarrassed blush settling on his face as he walked over to Gwen. He hesitantly met her emerald eyes, which then locked with his gaze. They stared at each other for a few seconds until the awkwardness became too evident.
"What?" He asked, receiving a slight wack on the head by Gwen's blue purse.
"Do you know how dates work? You're supposed to kiss me." She stated, crossing her arms in expectation. Kevin's eyes slightly widened at her words as his heart sped up.
"Uh…right." He unintelligently stated, averting his eyes down to his shiny shoes. After a few seconds of painfully awkward silence and burning embarrassment, Kevin felt two strong, but soft hands grab the sides of his surprised face and pull him forward to meet gentle lips that immediately sent jolts through his body. He could catch the scent of her sweet perfume as she held on as if to never let go, despite her ever-strong demeanor.
He was so engrossed that he didn't notice that Gwen had pulled back and was walking up the small sidewalk to her house. Her voice spun him back to reality.
"Don't take too long to kiss me next time. And have some manners on the next date, will you?" She called out, simply waving her hand at him but not turning around. He could tell by the higher pitch of her voice that she was just as affected as he was.
Then, she stepped up her porch and turned around, her dress twirling ever so slightly. Gwen then gave him a rare but the sweetest smile he'd ever seen, that paralyzed him right there. Then, she stepped into her house and slowly shut the door to leave him standing there alone, a blushing, stunned, love struck, happy man.
