Disclaimer: I DO NOT OWN CHRONICLES OF NARNIA!

We arrived at the fields of Beruna preparing for battle, the archers stayed at the top of the large hill, while the rest of us stood at the bottom waiting. Edmund and Mr. Beaver remained at the top with the archers whereas Peter and I were at the frontlines despite Peter's objections. We sent a griffin up ahead to scout the Witch's army and we waited patiently. I stood next to Peter on my horse, he was riding a white unicorn, and Orieus next to him.

"Are you sure you don't want to stand with the archers?" Peter asked me.

"Are we really having this conversation again?" I protested, "For the last time. I'm staying in the frontlines as my duty for I am the princess of Narnia. If you have a problem with it then you should be with the archers then"

"It is futile to argue with the princess, sire" Orieus added, "Once she sets her mind to something it's impossible to change it, she's been that way for the years that I've known her Highness"

Before Peter could speak any further, the scout of ours announced his return. Piercing screeches bellowed from the skies above and across the open fields of Beruna. As the gryphon flew over, he called to us at the head of the army then to Edmund, positioned and leading the archers.

My stallion shook his head and shifted, grunting as the gryphon landed beside us. I patted his thick neck and turned towards our scout.

He panted. "They come, Your Highness. In numbers and weapons far greater than our own."

"Numbers do not win a battle." Orieus said confidently.

A defeated sign left Peter as he looked out to the fields. "No- But I bet they help."

Across the valley, the sounds of a war horn rose and grew. The large cats within our numbers began growling and hissing towards the noise. I swallowed down a lump of fear that was caught in my throat. My stomach knotted, my heart pounded. Rising from the greenlands, specks became a streak of darkness. 'The Army of the White Witch', I thought, trying to hide my own fear. Peter turned around on the back of his stead, looking up towards the hill. I followed his gaze and saw his younger brother, Edmund. He was looking to him for reassurance.

Peter turned back around and sighed. He drew his sword from his scabbard and our war horn sounded. Our soldiers jeered, raising their weapons in support of our king. The ground rumbled and the thundering of hundreds upon thousands of footsteps began their approach. Anxiousness and nervousness grew inside me as the soldiers of the White Witch got bigger and bigger. High-pitched calls and cries screamed over us. Gryphons, including our scout, took to the skies as they soared towards our enemies.

'Please let this work.' We all watched as the first part of the plan commenced. Gryphons were to bombard first _ of enemy soldiers, taking out as many as they could. It was suicide but this whole battle seemed like suicide. Our army was much smaller than hers but lacked the heart of what it means to be free. They fought for tyranny. We fought for freedom.

"Are you with me?" Peter turned towards Orieus.

The centaur replied briefly. "To the Death."

Peter turned me and I nodded with a smile before turning my head forward and gripping my talisman thinking about my father.

"FOR NARNIA! AND FOR ASLAN!" Peter screamed to the troops, his unicorn rearing up in agreement. I drew my sword, yelling from deep within my chest. A sort of battle cry mixed in with a bit of fear. Our soldiers shouted with him before we lead the charge. The centaurs easily matched their speed with ours, lowering their spears as the large cats raced ahead.

My head pounded in my chest like it was about to explode. Time seemed to slow but only for a second when I saw the first jaguar tackle a white werewolf from the air. Weapons and shields clanged, ringing and bashing against wood and metal. My horse neighed as we charged head first into the ranks. I grunted as I swung my blade, cutting the chest of a Minotaur as another was rammed aside by my barreling stead. Many tried to get out of the way as we came through but they weren't so lucky.

I lost sight of Peter. Orieus too. I saw nothing but battle. Soldiers being slaughtered. I did my best to keep control of my horse, killing any who attempted to kill me.

"Maria! Maria! Maria!"

I turned towards the shouting and I saw Peter, a few yards away and a dead Minotaur sliding off his sword. I felt a smile of relief forming but it quickly dropped when one of the few Orkney; a massive and scaly skinned beast of Narnia, came lumbering towards him

"Peter!" I screamed, nudging my horse. "Heyah!" My boot heels hit the stallion's hips and he bolted. I didn't think of my actions next, I just reacted. Racing through the field, we weaved and I swung my sword, saving others along the way. My motions, habitually and fluid. Taking my sword in my left hand while holding the reins, I snatched a spear from a dead creature. Blood spurred from the body and I tossed it, holding it ready.

The Orkney was closing in, its massive hands raised to smash down to crush Peter. With all my might, I threw the spear. It flew over Peter's head, forcing him to turn and see as the tip pierced through the flat nose of the creature and out the back of its skull.

I pulled my horse to a stop next to Peter who watched the Orkney fall with wide eyes before turning to me. I snickered. "I called you."

He gave me a smile and a nod in gratitude for saving his life when the ground began to tremble. Our heads launched up, my ebony bangs flying into my face. My heart dropped as the second legion, along the White Witch herself, began their march. Another sound of the battle horn blew and they seemed to move a bit quicker. A werewolf finished off a faun before charging our way. Luckily, one of the centaur was near to intercept.

Screeching loudly, a phoenix flew. Edmund must've gave the command. I thought as I watched as the beautiful bird erupted into before even touching the battlefield. Flames quickly engulfed the creature as it soared low, igniting the grass. Our soldiers cheered happily as it seemed to block the entire second half of the Witch's army.

"Yeah!" I cheered when an orb of blue light exploded and extinguished the fire. "No." I breathed while the enemies continued their advance and turned to Peter, "Time for Plan B!"

"Fall back!" Peter ordered, turning his unicorn around. "Draw them to the rocks!"

Our soldiers began pulling out at the sound of our horn being blown. I remained frozen, staring at the White Witch as she rode regally in her chariot. My hands tightened with anger around my sword and the reins of my horse. I narrowed my eyes and clenched by jaw. I tugged on the reins and nudged my horse while the last of us retreated and some of the Witch's soldiers ran around her.

Fleeing in a full sprint, my horse and I cleared the opening but did not hear what followed us. Out of nowhere, something impacted my stead and I. We both flew and hit the ground. My head spun and vision was blurry. I tried to sit up when I was halted by the heavy weight of my horse, crushing my legs.

And a few feet away…. A Giant holding tight to its club.

Its eyes locked on me and I gasped, desperately trying to free myself. I pushed and pulled, clawing at the earth. The Giant stomped with a grin on its face.

"Fire!"

Arrows pelted the lumbering Giant and sent it staggering towards the entry way of the rocks. Roars from large cat gained its attention when two leapt from the hill, attacking the Giant and going in for the kill. It managed to pull and throw aside a tiger but the leopard got hold of its throat.

"Princess?!" It was Mr. Beaver as he and two of the centaur archers came to my aid. "Are you all right?!"

The archer were able to lift the horse just enough for me to pull myself free. Angry shouts halted my words in my throat when we all turned to see more of the enemy soldiers filing in.

"Go! Run!"

We all raced up the side of the hill, chasing after our comrades. Since I lost my sword back with the giant, I drew my sais from behind my belt. Running, I battled various creatures that stood in my way while some of the archers fired those who tried to kill me. Deflecting the blow from a Minotaur with my left, I drove my second sai into his side. As I yanked to pull it out, a dwarf came at me with an axe. I released the handle and kicked the body away to divert my attention to my next foe.

He was relatively easy to kill. I jumped back with every swing of his before catching and cutting his arm. Every chance I had, I cut him. I stopped his axe and slammed the skin between my index and thumb against his throat. It forced him choke and gasp for air. Taking the battle axe, I threw it straight into the back of a Minotaur before he could kill a faun.

The faun nodded and I panted. I looked around and saw the Witch's forces were winning. Our battle seemed futile. We were losing. As my eyes passed, I spotted the White Witch walking straight for Peter as he was on the ground. Behind him, Orieus and a rhino came barreling through.

"Stop!" Peter ordered as they ran past him.

"Orieus, no!" I shouted.

They took out many enemies but failed. The rhino was brought down with ease but Orieus kept going, hopping over his fallen comrade.

Quickly, I retrieved my second sai and ran. I jumped from a small cliff, dragging down a boggart by jamming my blades into his neck. We hit the ground and rolled away. I watched Orieus attempt to kill the Witch but he succumbed to her staff, vanishing from our sights. Blinded by my desire for vengeance, I charged her.

"Hey, Witch!" I growled at the Witch getting her attention and slashed my sais at her which she dodged, "Still think I'm not a threat?"

"No" The Witch answered nonchalantly, "But you are annoying"

I threw one of my sais at her. I knew she would deflect it but I needed an opening. As the blade bounced off her sword, I rushed her. I was surprised at how the Witch quickly recovered. Our weapons clashed. Her sword and staff against my sai and a hidden knife I drew. My heart pounded as we both fought for dominance and the upper hand. I grunted and pushed against her but somehow, she overpowered me. She used our tangled mess of blades and jerked me to the side. A strong kick from her sent me tumbling backwards. As I was trying to get myself back up, I saw the Witch about to stab me with her staff when out of nowhere Edmund jumps in slashing at her staff but missed. The Witch tried to stab him but Edmund dodged it and cut down on her staff breaking it, causing a blue light to shine out. I got myself up but was attacked by a werewolf. I immediately stabbed him with my knife and kicked him away before I turned my head to see the Witch knock the sword from Edmund's hand and stab him with the shard of her staff.

"No!" I shouted and caught Edmund just as he was falling backwards.

I gently put him down just as the Witch tossed aside her broken staff aside and picked up another sword off a dead body just as Peter was charging towards her.

"Hang in there, Edmund. Just hang in there." I panted. I did my best to comfort him but I knew there was no help for him. There was nothing I could do.

His breathing became wheezy as he rested on the ground. Behind me, hooves on grass caught my attention and I jammed my dagger outward, blocking a mace to my head with my forearm. The Minotaur screeched as I tore the blade free and silenced it as I slashed open its throat. Another beast, a humanoid vulture, jumped from atop a nearby hill and drove something into my shoulder, in between a weak spot in my armor.

I yanked the knife free and threw it aside when the beast came back at me. Snatching Edmund's sword, I blocked its slash and stabbed my dagger into its stomach. As I watched it die, an arrow from nowhere pierced my left calf and I collapsed. I fell hard with a thud and searched all around.

"Maria!" Peter screamed when a dwarf jumped down on top of me. I squirmed as he swung his battle axe, managing to miss my head.

I caught hold of the wooden handle and rammed it against his face. Blood squirted from his nose and I swung again, knocking him aside. I crawled back to Edmund and saw Peter still fighting the Witch, I held onto my talisman looking directly at Peter.

You could do this Peter! I believe in you! I said to him.

I knew Peter could hear me since he began attacking the Witch full force. Another dwarf tried to attack me from behind and kicked him away with my right leg. I heard growling from a distance and I looked up to see my father, Aslan, on top of the large rocky hill as he gave out a large roar getting everyone's attention of his presence as well as the hordes of Narnian soldiers behind him including Susan and Lucy. I smiled big at the sight of him and I noticed the remainder of the Witch's army was backing away at the sight of him in fear. I looked back down at Edmund to see his complexion getting paler and still wheezing.

"Help is coming, Edmund" I told him, "Hold on!"

I looked back up to see Peter and the Witch fighting again, and the Witch had knocked Peter to the floor and stabbed his shoulder. I winced at the sight of it and wanted to do something but I wasn't able to. I saw that the Witch was about to stab Peter with her sword when my father pounced on her. I sighed in relief and kept my eyes on my father as he stood on top of the Witch. I turned my head knowing what was going to happen next as I heard my father growl followed by the sounds of crunching bones afterward. The rest seemed like a blur as my focus went back to Edmund who was hanging on by a thread.

"Peter!" I called out hoping to get his attention.

I looked to my right to see a dwarf limping towards us with an axe when I tried to reach for my knife nearby.

"Maria! Edmund!" I heard Susan yell out.

I turned my head to see her draw her bow and shoot the dwarf with an arrow. Susan, Lucy, and Peter ran over to us and knelt down next to Edmund. Susan took off his helmet as Lucy poured a drop from her cordial into Edmund's mouth. When it seemed like Edmund stopped breathing, tears began to form in my eyes fearing that it was too late and I placed a hand on Peter's arm in sadness. Seconds later, Edmund began breathing and slowly began to open his eyes. Edmund looked around at all of us as we all smiled knowing he was okay. Peter immediately hugged his Peter not letting go for a couple of moments while I looked at his sisters smiling.

Peter let go of his brother still having his hands on Edmund's shoulders, "When are you gonna do as your told?"

All of us began giggling knowing that we were all okay and all of us were pulled into a group hug. Once the hug was broken we turned our heads to see my father walking towards us. He stopped in front of a stone Narnian soldier and blew his breath on him turning him back to normal. Lucy looked down and grabbed her cordial as she formed a grin. She stood up and ran over to the nearest injured soldier. Peter stood up next and held his hand out for me to help me up. I gladly took his hand as he lift me up and kept his hand around my waist since I was still favoring my left leg.

"We did it, we actually did it" Peter said looking out at the battlefield.

"I knew we would" I looked at him smiling.

I felt warmth from behind me and I turned around to see my father. I let go of Peter and limped towards my father giving him a gigantic hug. My father laughed as I felt his large paw on my back.

"I'm sorry I ever doubted you, father" I told him releasing the hug.

"It is alright, my lioness" My father chuckled, "It is what makes you human"

Peter, Susan, and Edmund stood behind me staring at my father before staring at their surroundings.

"What do we do now?" Susan asked.

"Now, we go home" My father answered proudly.
