A/N: I saw a really sad thing about Sirius and managed to make kinda fluffy young!maruaders from it. IMPRESSIVE I KNOW. Prompt 41: Shapes
Shaping the future
The day Sirius Black was sorted into Gryffindor was the second best day of his life. The best day of his life was undoubtedly the day he met his best friend, James Potter. This may have been the worst… to date.
Sirius was sat in a bus stop, soaked black hair dripping into his eyes. He tugged his black cloak tighter around himself, sneezing faintly. Finally, after years of abuse, he'd run away from home. But now, he didn't have anywhere to go, to stay until the school year started again in four weeks. And it was cold in the evenings in London. More than anything, he wanted James but he didn't know how to contact him. He couldn't send him a letter; he didn't have an owl. And he wasn't going to risk being caught by the Ministry of Magic for attempting to get a message to his best friend. Hugging his knees tightly to his chest, he flinched as a Muggle policewoman walked past.
"Sir?" Her voice was kindly, unlike his mother's and Sirius found himself nodding at her. "Do you need a ride home?" An idea sprung to the boy's mind and he nodded again, grabbing his trunk.
"Please." He stuttered out James's address, trembling from the cold. The policewoman loaded his trunk into the back and the shivering, dripping fifteen-year old slid into the passenger seat.
Despite his exhaustion, Sirius did not sleep on the mainly quiet drive to the Potters. The policewoman asked him a few questions which he answered shortly, but politely. He couldn't help but grin when they reached the area, stopping her and unloading his trunk, thanking her for all her help. Dragging his trunk to the Potters' door, Sirius knocked on it sharply, grinning wider at James's call of,
"I'll get it!" The door was flung open and Sirius barely got a glance of hazel eyes and crooked glasses under a mop of curly raven hair before his best friend had pulled him into a tight hug*
"Sirius!"
"James, please, need my ribs." The other teen released him and grinned at him, before immediately frowning at his state.
"Jeez, man, what's going on?"
"I kinda ran away… Eventually. But I… Um…" James literally shoved a hand over his best friend's mouth.
"Say no more. Dad! Mum! Sirius is coming to live with us because he ran away from his abusive parents!" Said boy turned bright red but James's parents just agreed and the young Potter grinned, grabbing the trunk. "You can sleep on the sofa in my room, okay?"
"Okay." As his best friend lugged his trunk up to his room, a slow smile spread across Sirius's face because maybe, just maybe, this day would shape those to come.
