Monsters & Magic: A FrankenWolf Story
~*~
...
Victor walked into the diner at exactly six A.M, as he always did. And Red gave him her usual bright smile and handed him his first cup of coffee. She was the only one that knew how he liked it; one half-and-half, two french vanillas, and one sugar.
Like normal, he was the only customer in the little restaurant. Without much to do, Red joined him in drinking the morning beverage. They talked about everything, and they knew each other more than any other person could claim to. They talked of how they were the horror stories living in the world of fairy tales, joking about their monstrous sides with an almost-bitter note.
She poured him another cup of coffee and added the cream and sugar, setting it in front of him while she took hermug and refilled it. He was the only one who knew how she liked her coffee as well, so he took it and added one hazelnut creamer and two sugar packets, finishing it with a dash of milk. She grinned a little and thanked him as he handed it to her with a shy smile of his own. While Dr. Whale had been a bit of a womanizer, Victor Frankenstein was a reserved man, preffering the company of test tubes and beakers to other people. Save one.
Doctor Hopper usually came in at six-fourty five, which meant that every morning of the week, Victor and Red had fourty-five minutes to themselves. Just the two of them.
The scientist would be lying if he said he didn't care for Red in a deeper way, but it wasn't as though anyone ever asked. The only time they were really together was their time in the morning, and the only person that saw that was Red's grandmother, who didn't pry. And for this, he was grateful... as was she.
She had feelings for the doctor. His witty remarks, his intelligence, and his understanding all drew her to him. He was one of the few that could really listen to her and know how she felt. And he always seemed to know exactly the right thing to say.
Granny had gone to the grocery store to get supplies, so it was just the two of them. He took another sip of coffee, then asked if she would like to have dinner with him on Thursday at five. Grinning a little, she accepted the invitation and downed the last of her drink just as Doctor Hopper walked through the door.
...
They both enjoyed themselves on that Thursday. And also on all the other dates they went on after that. After seeing each other formally for six months, Victor proposed to Red, who happily said yes.
The wedding was very small, with only twenty people invited and Red being barefoot on the beach.
When the new curse took everyone back to the enchanted forest, they decided to build a nice house a little away from the rest of the village. They laughed when Snow White stated that they found their perfect happy ending, but agreed nonetheless. After all, what's the difference between monsters and magic?
