I feel anxious driving us home. Kai sat in the passenger seat next to me, while Anna sat in the backseat.
"Elsa, here's the pay for our rent this month." Anna said while giving me a set of bills. I took it with my free hand and put it inside the glove compartment.
"That's a hundred dollars."
"Dad, remember what I said. My savings are right inside the plastic folder I've been using." Kai nodded. "You know what my real plan was, right?"
"Yes."
"I would've bought you a new home⦠But I wasn't able to reach the budget..
And my life." Anna sighed.
"But that's okay. I've been thinking about the tenement lately, and I thought about Elsa and Bulda." Anna continued.
"They'll be taking care of you from then on." Kai's face showed distress. His lip was quivering, drops then shed from his eyes under the shades he wore.
The rest of the ride home became silent after.
When we reached home, Anna quickly got out of the car and went up front to help Kai. They both went inside together. I followed them shortly, stopping at the gates.
Before Anna and Kai were able to take another step towards their apartment, they were greeted by a blast of light, confetti, and friends.
"SURPRISE!" Everyone in Arendelle shouted, using what was left of their energy. Anna was in awe, not knowing what to do as tears form in her eyes. She looked at the decorations: Colorful flowers topping rooftops, large banners that hung across poles, balloons in various colors, and other madness. Her eyes roamed back and forth, taking in her surroundings, until she came to a stop.
A clock.
My eyes widen in fear, realizing it wasn't over yet. I didn't waste any more time, I was too concerned with Anna.
Before I was able to reach her, she was running towards the clock.
"Anna, wait!"
She turned her head to me, but she didn't stop running.
"Slow down Anna!" I shouted. Before I knew it, she slipped and fell. One minute she was upright, but by the next she fell dangerously flat on the ground.
The wind beat cold against my skin, as I desperately ran as fast as I could.
"Anna?" I bent over to reach for her head.
"Anna? I'm here," I said as I frantically search her body for wounds. "I'm right here." Amidst all that has happened, her eyes were focused on the clock.
I dared to take a glance at it, and it screamed 11:59. No.
A sigh echoed between her lips, then bounced around my skull, tormenting me. A flashback comes flooding through my mind. All my life; I spent it on saving yours. She lays flat on the ground, cold and shivering. This distressing moment conflicts all my futile efforts to save her.
"Don't go." I shakily said as tears began running down my cheeks. But she never shed a single tear.
"No" She whispered. "I'm not going anywhere."
I fell forward into the mess I'd made of her chest, sobbing. "I'm not going anywhere," she said once more.
She reached for something underneath her. What she held out, surprising me and everyone else, was a banana peel. "My butt hurts."
.fuck.
I grit my teeth. Crap. Now I look like some retarded Mongolian clusterfuck. Holy crap. My brain's laughing at me right now. Ha. You suck. Well fuck you, brain.
At least she's safe. The thought made me smile.
I glanced at the clock. 12:06.
Sigh. "Happy Birthday, Snowflake."
