Return Home

Chapter 6: A Trip to the Past Part III (The Promise of Reunion)

Hey yo! I accidentally deleted the poll, but as you can see, Return Home won! Only by two votes, though. The New Story (FXS RXB) and the sequel to Falling were tied in second. The New Story... I'll start working on that one. A sequel/prequel to Falling? I thought the story was pretty complete, and it was supposed to be vague, but I guess you guys really need closure. Um... I put it in the poll on request (from one of my friends on fanfiction) but I never expected it to get that many votes. Sorry, guys, but I'm not planning on making another story following up on Falling simply for the fact it was hard not describing the characters appearances and names AT ALL(you could imagine any couple) and I fear that a sequel/prequel would just muddy it up a little, but if you REALLY need closure, feel free to drop a review or PM me. (I'll tell you what happened to the characters after the story ends) Guests, it will be hard telling you, but I guess I could manage somehow. Enough with my rambling already-

Cynder 7: Yay! This story was saved! I'm so happy you said something because I was about to delete this! ;( Thanks for the constant support! Sorry about my VERY irregular updates.

Please remember to read and review! Helpful reviews always make my day!

(Disclaimer: I do not own Fushigiboshi No Futagohime (Gyu) or any of its characters, although I wish I did XD)

Also, good news! I am now a beta reader or whatever! Cool, right? I am (as of now) active, so feel free to use me! :D

(A/N: This part of the story is very graphic. So sorry if you can't take it.)

Rein's P.O.V.

I stared at my bloodied reflections in the shattered mirror of the vanity. Tears fell down my cheeks.

Why did it have to come to this?

Using the vanity, I pushed myself onto my feet. The pain in my back was unbearable. I screamed and crashed back down to the floor.

No.

No.

I don't want to keep living like this.

I have to end this...

Biting my lip, I stood up. It was painful, but this would all end soon. Using the wall for support, I slowly made my way to the outside. Blood tracked on the floor and behind me. I walked into a pillar by accident, because I couldn't see out of my left eye. The maids and butlers I walked past stared at me in horror and disgust. The butlers gaped at me and then hurried away. The maids covered their mouths with their hands and ran. One even threw up in a corner before screaming and running away.

Heh.

I bet they were given orders not to associate themselves with me in any way. Typical. I heard a voice down the hall.

"Where is sheeeee?" I sucked in a breath of air as I realized who it was. Adrenaline started to pump through my veins. I HAD TO get out of here. It took every ounce of my willpower to start speeding up my pace. All of a sudden, I tripped over a fold in the rug and plummeted into the floor.

I braced myself for the impact of hitting the floor, but it never came. I opened my eyes to warm brown eyes looking at me.

"Are you alright Princess Rein?"

He had short-cut brown hair and was in a guard uniform. I would guess he was around 18. Why was he helping me? "Who a-are..."

"My name is Adam, your highness. I'm here to help." He lifted me up (bridal style KYA) and started to run.

"My m-mother... sh-she's.."

"Shh," he said. "I know. Don't speak." He ran, away from my mother's voice echoing throughout the halls.

Suddenly, I started violently coughing up blood. "We need to stop here and catch our breath." He ran into the nearest room, which was a living room.

My hands were covered in blood, and I was really dizzy. Adam set me down on a cushioned chair and took hold of my bloodied hands.

"Princess Rein... Promise me this. You must create a better kingdom than this. Please. There are many people suffering right now... And I know you, kind, loving, thoughtful, Rein, are the one who will stand up and make a difference."

Adam's eyes widened when he saw the tears running down my cheeks. I hadn't been called those things in so long... "Will you stay by my side? Adam..."

He put his hands on my shoulders and smiled. "Of course. My life belongs to you. Even if I die, I'll stay with you."

"O-okay!"

"So, let's get goin-" he abruptly stopped.

"Adam what's wron-" I gasped.

A spear was in his stomach. The red was spreading fast. My hands flew to cover my mouth.

"A-a-dam?" He coughed up blood onto my face before forcing a grin.

"Run princess Rein.."

"B-but-!"

"Please Rein... Don't forget our promise..." He said before his eyes closed and he fell backward.

Behind him I saw...

My mother. Scowling.

"Ugh. I was aiming for the brat. But oh well. I got rid of that bastard traitor to the kingdom. Now I just have to kill this one last cockroach," she said before readying another spear. She got that crazed look on her face again. She was about to throw, but she swooned and fell over because of the alcohol. This was my chance to escape! I got up from the chair and, before glancing at Adam, painstakingly left the room.

I promise Adam. I promise you I'll do this.

I ran past my mother. I could no longer feel my wounds. The only thing I could feel was the drive to carry out Adam's wish.

But first, I had to get away from my mother. Even as a 9-year-old, I knew I would die if I stayed there. If I died, I could never carry out Adam's wish, so the only thing that mattered was clear as day. I just had to survive.

I ran past the maids and butlers, across the dinner hall, and into the ballroom, leaving a splatter of blood marking where I went. Camelot and Lulu were nowhere to be found. I finally reached the balloons. My pink sunny kingdom balloon would probably not be the best choice, considering how obvious that would be. I barely knew how to control it, and while I was freaking out, the door creaked open. I turned around to see my mother with that psycho smile on her face.

It was too late to fly a balloon. There was no place to hide. I couldn't run anymore. I had lost too much blood. There was only one option- to go outside. I limped outside, and my mother followed suit, staggering and tripping over her own feet because of the alcohol. I kept walking, and my mind couldn't think straight. My vision was fuzzy and I was feeling awfully cold.

Finally, I reached the edge. My mother caught up to me.

"Mommy...I'm sorry..."

She showed no reaction. "It should've been you. You should've been kidnapped instead of Fine. Now my baby girl is probably dead, and it's YOUR FAULT!" She grabbed my shoulders and dug her nails into them. "So I'm going to make this right and send you back to where you belong." She pushed me, and before I fell out of her sight, she said one last thing to me.

"Hell."

I was falling. Like on one of those rides where they bring you up and drop you back down. My stomach was flipping and my hair and my purple sundress was blocking my line of sight.

Wait... Purple? I was wearing a blue sundress. Oh, I get it. Red and blue make purple! So what's the red? I kept contemplating the change of color as my vision started darkening.

"REIN!"

Someone grabbed my hand and harshly drew me into his chest. His hands brushed away the hair in my face, revealing his identity to me.

"B...Bright...?" I asked, confused at the sudden change of events. He was carrying me, and a look of panic was on his face.

"Rein, what happened?!" He gazed down at my injuries with horror. His expression then became one of mixed feelings. My vision was getting darker, and I felt like all the warmth in me had disappeared. It was as if I was frozen in a block of ice. It was cold... So, so cold...

"Bright... I'm really tired... So I'm just gonna take a nap for a while..."

"NO! Don't close your eyes, Rein! Keep them open! Stay with me!" He then started frantically calling his assistants on his balloon. "SOMEBODY HELP HER!" The assistants were hesitant when they saw me. "Rein..." Bright's voice cracked as his tears came down his face.

His salty tears dripped down onto my face. "Oh, Bright. Please don't cry... If you cry it'll make me cry, too..." I outstretched my shaking hand and wiped the tears from his eyes.

"You shouldn't cry for me! You're badly injured!" I smiled.

"You silly goose. Anyone would cry for the person they love..." I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. I lost control of my arm and it dropped, but Bright caught my hand.

"NO! REIN!"

I was standing in the middle of a small stream. The sky was blue with fluffy white clouds all over it. There were two river banks, one obviously prettier and warmer than the other one. I didn't really feel like getting out of the stream yet, so I walked a little farther. Then I saw a familiar mess of brown hair floating on the surface.

"Adam?" The person stood up, revealing himself to be Adam. "Adam!" I happily ran over to him and gave him a big hug. He rested his big hands on my head.

"Hi, Rein. Long time, no see." I looked up at him confused. I tried to remember what I had been doing, or where I had recognized him, but I couldn't remember anything. Suddenly, there was a sharp pain in my head. I collapsed, holding my head in pain.

"Rein. Your time here is almost up." Huh? I looked up at his poker face.

"No! Why can't I stay here with you?!" He then gave me a stern look, the kind a parent does his child.

"No, Rein. You must make a decision."

"Why? What decision?" I was so confused. Adams expression then changed to a wise one.

"You must decide what side you want to go to." I looked to my left. There was perfect, green grass with many flowers. It was sunny and warm, and very inviting. I looked to the right and saw patchy, imperfect grass, and it was storming. It looked wet and cold. Very uninviting. Until I saw them. People were walking, shivering, and confused in the storm. Bright, Altezza, Mirlo, Lione, Tio, Milky, Auler, Shade, ... My parents.

And Fine.

"Fineeeeee!" I yelled happily, but she couldn't hear me. The choice of where I was going was obvious.

"I've made my decision, Adam." I grabbed his hand and started walking towards the river bank on the right.

"Wait!" I stopped and looked back at him. "Once you make the decision, there's no turning back. You might regret it."

I thought for a moment, and then smiled. "I won't regret my decision. Wherever Fine is, I am, too!"

Adam looked surprised for a moment, but then he seemed to dismiss whatever he was thinking of. I took a deep breath and said, "OKAY! Let's go!" I pulled his hand, but to no avail.

"I'm sorry, Rein. I'm not ready to leave here yet." I frowned. But then I thought of a solution.

"Okay. You want me to go, right? So, let's make a deal." I held out my pinkie finger expectantly. "I'll go if you pinkie promise me that you'll come later." He was surprised, and he laughed a hearty laugh.

"Who would think the rumors about the most unprincesslike-princesses were true!" A vein popped out on my forehead.

"Hey! I was being serious! JEEZ!" I puffed out my cheeks and turned my head the other way, crossing my arms in anger. Adam stopped laughing and took my hand. Intertwining our pinkies, he said,

"I promise."

"Okay! Well, bye, Adam! Fine is waiting for me!" I turned and ran to the river bank on the right.

I heard Adam yell, "I might take a while! Is that okay?"

Without turning back, I yelled, "Don't worry! I trust you!"

And I ran into the pitch black storm.
